I’ve been to Russia a few times. I’m American and I work for a Russian company teaching English. I always make it a point to not talk politics with Russians. Better safe than sorry.

I was with him the whole time, until brittney griner. She flew with 700g of basically weed into a country, where it's a criminal offence. What were she thinking about? Realistically if you go into a country that we are in a proxy war with, and at the beginning of all of that, these things will happen. I wish I could have listened to this whole podcast on Spotify, but the guest's voice was SO QUIET most of the time I couldn't hear him. And if I turned up the volume to hear him, Joe's voice was SUPER loud. I kept hoping that either Joe or Jamie would remind him to keep the microphone closer to his mouth or something but I gave up on the podcast as unlistenable before that happened, if it ever did. Usually it's Joe dropping his voice in a conspiratorial whisper once in a while and annoying me, but this time it was all the guest. The hard part of podcasting is keeping a steady volume in both your and your guests voice as much as possible. Too bad it couldn't be fixed in post.

Joe is a great interviewer because he knows how to shut up when a guest is telling an engaging story. A lesser interviewer would have continually interrupted and ruined the flow of the story.
That's not what makes a good interviewer. A good interviewer presses for truth and can get information from a story others can't due to their lines of questioning and tactics. Simply letting someone "tell an engaging story" is actually not an interview at all.

Realistically if you go into a country that we are in a proxy war with, and at the beginning of all of that, these things will happen. Russia is close to the old Soviet mindset at worst, and very much the Chinese mindset. But to be fair, what happened to this guy and Griner, things were moving pretty fast, and they got caught up in it without realizing how much things had changed, virtually overnight.
Listening to this entire conversation and a number of others recently and it’s hard not to notice a change. We’re seeing less truth telling, less boat rocking, and a lot more CIA and msm talking points being parroted on the platform. It’s impossible not to see a pattern in who he’s interviewing and who he’s not, The repetitive statements on topics like Russia should be alarming to anyone who has listened for a long time and has taken the time to research that specific situation more than what CNN is telling us. I hope this doesn’t become a trend but Rogan is, at worst looking captured and at best, neutered right now.

I wish I could have listened to this whole podcast on Spotify, but the guest's voice was SO QUIET most of the time I couldn't hear him. And if I turned up the volume to hear him, Joe's voice was SUPER loud. I kept hoping that either Joe or Jamie would remind him to keep the microphone closer to his mouth or something but I gave up on the podcast as unlistenable before that happened, if it ever did. Usually it's Joe dropping his voice in a conspiratorial whisper once in a while and annoying me, but this time it was all the guest. The hard part of podcasting is keeping a steady volume in both your and your guests voice as much as possible. Too bad it couldn't be fixed in post.

It's horrible what he went through but I have to say this guy is a complete and utter fool. Shouldn't have been speaking out about Ukraine or keeping track of his political views in a diary or voice recorder and shouldn't have been talking to locals about sensitive news topics regarding Russia. You can't just go to another country and assume they have the same freedom of speech laws like we do in the West. You need to be aware of what not to say in countries with dictatorships or shambolic justice systems or else you're asking for trouble.
