- Police officers in Crystal Lake, Illinois responded to a 911 call from the concierge at a hotel. Hannah Sheppard apparently had trouble getting into her room and took it out on the man at the front desk. When officers arrived, Hannah made it clear she had a problem with her stay so far and asked the officers, whom she knew from a prior arrest, to help her. It was about having more mental health professionals to handle these issues. Imagine if they could now turn this situation over to counselors, instead of fire & EMS. People with borderline personality traits are difficult. In my work, I had a lot of clients who had these kinds of emotional dynamics. The worst thing about borderline personality disorder or the rapid shifts, like when she abruptly shifts from anger to self blame when the door is opened. It's difficult for people around the borderline individual because most of us would still be trapped in the anger phase but the borderline person has already moved on from it.

I worked in MR/DD services years ago. Many people benefit greatly by those institutions and I believe it would be the same for people who aren't just developmentally disabled. For some reason we're fine with spending $50k+ a year just locking someone up and not actually treating the underlying condition.
Worth it; the only thing I can do right now, donating to facilities that are taking care of little humans, when those people that should take care of then aren't doing it. Future worth it.
