Wow! Too real for us! My husband was sleeping in his rig (Phoenix,AZ..September) when he was awaken by police officers pounding on his door yelling, “Get out! You’re on fire!” Looked to be from the batteries, too! TOTALLED..both tractor, trailer & contents! Outside of PT appointments (evidently leaping out of a rig and rolling onto the concrete is a wee bit hard on a 65 yr old body!) he’s thankful to be alive.

Adam, so sorry that happened to you. You are the model of a hard working business owner. This sucks. Hopefully insurance helps out but hope that your insurance rates do no go up. Keep your head up, no one was injured which is blessing #1.
That is why you always put a kill switch on the batteries. When I was working in Arizona we had three trucks caught on fire. All were electrical fires

Hope Mr. Orange 🍊 is able to make a full recovery. Looks like it might be quite minor damage considering the circumstances. Just might need some new wires, batteries, and a new cover. As others have said thank goodness you were outside when that happened. I can easily see how that could have turned into a very manageable repair to a catastrophic insurance claim (not to mention risk to people).
I am so very sorry that you are going through this. I still am going to say you appeared to take that remarkably well, all things considered.

Battery quality has absolutely gone to junk in these last few years. Seems that they only focus on the new AGM and Lithium as far as engineering goes. I hope the truck is ok, DIY.

When you're in that situation you're actually now lucky even though your truck's on fire because it didn't get destroyed
I hope it's just batteries ,cables and top of the box. I know you change them often. Man, that sucks. If someone takes care of his stuff, it's you. Sorry for the misfortune. I have the same truck. Leart a lot about it from your videos.

Considering the situation, I find that to almost be an insufficient level of cursing. Good you had someone else there because that burning smell can sometimes come on slowly and you can talk yourself out of it really existing. Plus, they were there to video. Seems like you got there fast enough to minimize damage. Don't know what kind of batteries they are but the issue might be caused by low charge + freezing weather that then caused a internal short which in turn caused them to overheat and then catch fire.
If I remember right didn’t you change out your battery connections in the last couple months? Wonder what happened
