This guy gets it! There is a huge disconnect between tech RUclipsrs and average users. I love my iPhone SE. it’s such a minimalist powerhouse of a device.
I really appreciate that! Yeah, I’m seeing all these people bash it but it’s literally all tech RUclipsrs who really love the flashy new stuff so of course they’re going to hate the SE, but the SE wasn’t made for them haha.
Just ordered one, so that I have a basic iPhone that is modern but very portable and cheap and will last a long time. Only concern I have is battery... how are you finding yours?
Battery life has still been great for me, but it really depends on if you’re a heavy user. Also, like I mentioned in the video, if you grab one of those cases and then like an anker MagSafe battery bank then you’re good!
@@alexshotthese SE arrived and even though I’ve only had it for a day, the battery seems to be much better than everyone seems to be letting on. It’s actually rated better than my older iPhone XS at 15 hours compared to 14 so not sure why it’s copping so much hate
Exactly! I mean if you really power use it then sure it’ll run out of juice quicker then most phones, but the size and all that is still great. They really optimized the SE battery with the A15 really well.
Got my SE3 back in December and it is still at 100 percent with the battery I am not a heavy user either and it really got on my nerves how some these tech tubers have bashed such an amazing phone I am really happy with my purchase
Exactly! I told another commenter that MKBHD actually did a video about the top 10 phones in the world and the SE3 was 9th! So it definitely has a place and glad to see so many people still love it.
I wanted to ask if you've noticed your iPhone getting warm at the back. Does your screen shake (if you touch it) when playing music a bit loud, or is it just the back that's not noticeable? By the way, I'm using iOS 17, so it's unrelated to the new iOS 18 vibration feature for visually impaired users. Thanks!"
Thanks for doing this phone justice. I much prefer this “outdated” design to the latest one. The larger bezels give you a place to rest your fingers without disturbing the screen and I love the home button which I know many people with the more expensive models miss. Touch ID is also a big bonus of course.
I tried! Like I stated I’m not a tech RUclipsr so this video may not look super fancy or delve deep into other things. I just decided to talk about the things I normally hear from tech RUclipsrs on this phone. I still love it’s design and yes Touch ID is something I prefer over Face ID any day.
I like it too but now I’m actually tired of it because I had it for a decade now an wanna see a different look
The simplicity of touch id, face id is cool and all but it hits different it feels like nobody and i mean nobody can get into your phone unless they have the same fingerprints and people act like its old tech
I am addicted to press the home button casually
I feel the same way. I had a Samsung S20 FE phone with bezelless screen and I used to make a lot of typos due to my palm touching the sides of the screen. This issue was solved thanks to the "large bezels" of the SE. For me, I need the bezels. I really wish Apple continues selling this "Outdated" SE, so I can upgrade to another SE few years later.
I'm into smaller phones, that's why I always buy the minis and the SEs. I'm not really into taking photos with my phone because I have camera for that purpose. I basically use my smartphone for apps like banking, music and videos - just the basic entertainment apps that don't require super features. I can afford to buy the latest iPhone Pro or Pro Max, but I'd rather buy the latest SE and save money. I hope Apple continues to make SEs.
They’re going to continue making the SE, but the new rumor is pointing to a 6.1in all touch display so no more Touch ID. :(
@alexshotthese is the new SE will come out on 2024?
@michellenatania2 that’s the rumor is that it’ll come out in 2024 with an iPhone 13/14 design. 6.1in screen and all. Death of the small form factor unfortunately.
@@alexshotthese omg, i cannot call it an SE if it has 6.1.. 5 inch screen size should just suffice.
Funny thing. You probably weren't around when the only thing the guys at the office bragged about having the smallest was their cell phone. They went from the brick to the best little flip phone, Motorola Razr. Then the cell grew to the size of a small tablet. Love my newly acquired Se3.
Thank you for this video. After watching this I bought my first iPhone last week after 15 years of Android with huge screens and batteries. You might think I’m crazy but I could have got the 12 (or the Pixel 7a with free Pixel Buds) but went for this instead. I’m absolutely loving my SE. I love the bezels and the home button and the fact I can drop it into my pocket and not feel it there. It feels like a little gadget from Star Trek. I’m so sick of identical rectangular screen slabs. This makes me excited about phones again in a way that I haven’t felt since 15 years ago when I bought the first Google phone that had the physical slide out keyboard. When phones all looked different. Long live the SE. We’ve forgotten how fun small things were.
I am picking one up ASAP! This is exciting!
This was exactly how I felt when I got my 1st iPhone which was the SE2. My passion for smartphones was gone thats when I got my 1st iPhone I thought to myself no way this is better than my LG stylo 5 at the time, boy was I in for a surprise. Two days in with my SE2 I fell in love with it and it rekindled my lost passion I once had for smartphones after that I never went back to Android. I was blessed with my iPhone 11 and I still use my SE2 thru out the day lol.
I've been using the SE3 for a year (is there already that many), I bought a cover with magsafe magnetic rings, so I have all the functionality of the big brothers (magsafe wallet, magsafe battery pack...)...
For me, SE3 has no flaws!
I actually recently downgraded from a 14 Pro Max to the SE 2020 edition. Although these latest high shelf devices are so feature rich the reality of constant usability is overblown. I have to say in all the time I used the 14 I rarely used much if any of it. It's kinda like the person who buys the latest 80k $ Truck with the intention of using it to move everyone but never puts even a box in the back of it to haul. That's essentially my experience with these latest, greatest phones. The SE is perfect in its minimalist design and is really packed with features and hardware for its price. It has basically all the features you could want for a $200 phone (you can pick em up all over for 100 and change now swappa etc) and most importantly it allows you to access all the favorites naturally as with the others. Face-time, icloud, apple music and arcade are no problem for this phone. Its the best of 3 worlds. Low price, functions of an apple phone and then some and fits easily in your pocket. My biggest reason for picking up one of these also was I was always freaking out about where my $1000 phone was and not wanting to loose it (Yes I'm off the grid) at times. These are perfect for the apple music library, battery life and remote mountain hiking.
Same downgrade from i phone 14 pro to SE 2022 super happy 😊😊
Good one. This was needed in 2023. People simply disregard the SE 3 , but it’s a great phone for a everyday user.
Absolutely agree as I type this up from my SE 3!
Just got one with straight talk. $149. Really can’t beat it. I like having money in my bank account instead of spending it on latest $1,000 portable computer
I just went out and bought the iPhone SE 3 today. I had the iPhone 12 mini from new but after about two years of use the battery is shot. As mentioned in the video it was a common problem with the mini. As much I liked that phone it was getting to the point of being barely usable. Also my first iPhone was the SE first generation from 2016!! I loved that thing and still have it around.
Hopefully it serves you well! If you’re not a power hungry user then it’ll be great. At least it has for me. Yeah my 12 mini battery just sucked so bad and the health of it depleted so quickly. I’ve actually heard good things about the 13 mini so if the decide to keep that model around and officially get rid of the SE to push people to get one of the newer models then that’d be an option I suppose.
@@alexshotthese I'm converting from Android to Apple after 8 loyal years, what iPhone should I get? I'm a simple person so no "Pro Maxes"
If you’re wanting a cheap option then I’d look at the iPhone SE2022, but if you want a phone that is all screen then I’d say either the iPhone 13 or 13 mini.
@@alexshotthese thanks!!
Amazing video ! I have the SE 2020 and living my life perfectly with it. Tech youtubers are just so narcissistic, they can have all the phones they desire, and always seek more and more. We are happily satisfied with what we got👌🏻
Exactly! The SE line are great phones that do what we need them to do. As I stated in the video I just prefer Touch ID. I'm a sucker for the home button since the iPhone started with the home button. It's what made it so ICONIC. Then when they introduced Touch ID it just made it all the more better. I think how far we've come with phones is impressive, but also we've gotten here so fast. I'm good with staying in the slow lane.
Me too. I'm a heavy RUclips, RUclips Music, and Apple Podcasts user. After 2 years I'm down to battery 80% capacity.
So refreshing! An everyday phone user giving his honest opinion, as opposed to one who was perhaps gifted 5 different phones and reviews them for a living; often without the genuine connection with average real world users. There is room for new tech lovers and lesser tech lovers. Some live for the latest tech, and that is fine, whilst others just want the tech to fade into the background so they can get on with living … Apple’s greatest gift to us is it’s IOS, how we choose to experience it is part of the varied tapestry of life!
Well said! I appreciate you watching and commenting. Just an everyday guy wanting to throw my two cents in. Big tech reviewers often forget about us.
I hear you Alex. I upgraded from my iPhone 12 pro max to the se3 6 months ago. And couldn’t be happier.
Just got an se 2 from andrioid ive always loved the se series
Finally an honest positive video on this device, I am a tech nerd and this is my dream phone but all the people I talk to or see talking about it online are negative about it. While it looks """"outdated"""" I think the SE looks WAY better than any other iPhone and what may be the last home button iPhone and with touch ID it is a no-brainer for me. I know people will just say get the 8 or SE 2 but the newer chip will give me longer software support and without doxing myself I could take advantage of the 5G seeing as I have not had good experiences with 4G thus. far.
Exactly! Also I’m not complaining that they squeezed a slightly bigger battery in it either. SE3 all the way.
@@alexshotthese Yeah and the A15 Chip is actually a big jump in making the battery last longer, that is why in part the 13 Pro series lasts as long as they do. It would have been nice to have Magsafe but to be honest, I would not use it personally so for me it is not a loss, heck there are some magnetized stickers for dirt cheap that you can stick on to it or a case like you said.
Besides I am eyeing the iBlasion Armer Box case, I just LOVE how it looks, I have one for my iPod Touch and it is SO good, so the exact same thing for an iPhone is a no-brainer in my opinion. I do wish it had a headphone jack but I can use my Ear-Pods to Lightning cable so it's whatever.
I've even seent the SE3 as cheap as $130 refurbished and it is like what, $20 more than a used SE 2? I think for the little extra money you get a nicer device in my opinion.
@@NolanTheInternetUser hit the mail on the head! The SE3 is definitely a step up from the SE2 in my opinion. The bigger battery, newer chip, and 5G make it a little beast.
@@alexshotthese A minor change for sure, but still a well worth one. I keep hearing arguments that it has a worse battery life then the 12 mini? Like what? No, lol.
I can absolutely attest to the fact that the SE does NOT have worse battery life than the 12 mini.
I'm using the galaxy s21 fe right now. I kinda wanna switch to an SE 2022 (or 2020). I had an iPhone 7. I love the design because it's smaller and it is definitely enough for me. But it had a small storage capacity and the performance wasn't enough to play games so I switched to my aunt's S21 FE. I realized I really do love that design. I'm satisfied with the 720p display, that small screen and those bezels. I guess I just really found a size that's good for me.
If you do I would definitely opt for the 2022 model if you can. Bigger battery, newer chip, and the option of 5G.
Yeah go for iPhone SE 3 generations you’ll love it better my first iPhone was 2020 se I love it until I broke it by accident but I bought myself a iPhone SE 3 generation for my graduation money you should get it I love iPhone SE 3 generations
Excellent, excellent, excellent. As an iPhone SE 22 user and lover, I thank you for this. Just let us enjoy our stuff!
Dude! Thank you for the tips and apps! Especially the MagSafe case! I got the SE 2022 last week to replace my SE first Gen and I'm loving it. For the record I also have an iPhone 11 Pro as my main work phone, but the SE 2022 is my personal private line.
You’re welcome! Dang you upgraded from the first gen SE?? That’s impressive!
Thank you for seeing the good in older phones. You are right on point about the super tech RUclipsrs bashing the older phones. Love my SE!
Awesome video. Me personally I've had every SE and they all were fantastic. This 2022 version in particular because of having 5g and better battery life. I've always said the SE line is for those that want touch ID and a retro iPhone. Tech reviewers often lose sight of the value it offers with the a15 chip and the features it brings. I wound up loving the SE 2020 design and that carrief over to the 2022 version too. It's a shame they'll probably use a Face ID model on the next one instead of Touch ID which was a huge selling point for me.
Exactly. I think it would be beneficial for them to continue having a Touch ID model, but that’s just me.
@@alexshotthese I think so too. I'd think that making them and dropping the price to $349 maybe even $299 would ensure you got insane value for your money. Because I prefer Touch ID and it's one of the few advantages of the SE line.
Same. Since the pandemic I’ve been using Apple Pay more and Touch ID just works quicker for that application. Love it.
@@alexshotthese for me even after the pandemic I truly prefer Touch ID. It's quicker in most situations and I like how seemlees it works with Apple Pay and even when you download apps off the App Store and to authenticate apps.
Great video. I agree with your thoughts. The SE 2022 has served me well and performs well. Tech reviewers don’t give some products a fair shake.
I agree! They bash something that they’re not going to end up using.
I bought an iPhone SE 3rd gen (256gb) to replace my iPad Air 2 that doesn't perform well at all nowadays.
I used my iPad mostly for mobile gaming.
Since Apple doesn't care about iPod Touch and never got to make a bigger than 4 inches iPod, I took this iPhone and it does really well.
It's powerful as hell. It runs anything I throw at it PERFECTLY !
And since it has a rather low resolution screen, it actually outperforms the iPhone 15 Plus my best friend have.
The only slight issues are :
1) The battery life when gaming. It's not amazing.
(But coming from my 9 years old iPad Air 2 battery, it actually does better lol.)
2) The device can get quite hot when pushed with the most intensive games. But that's an issue with most if not all iPhones / iPads sadly. (Thermals still seems to be better than any other modern iPhone past iPhone X except the Xr / 11 though, thanks to the PCB design not trapping the SoC between two layers of PCB.)
And since the camera is so small, putting a peltier cooler where the SoC is located is possible. And it does help A LOT for long gaming sessions.
Anyway, thanks for showing a bit of positivity for this phone.
I still wish Apple made an iPhone SE Plus based on the iPhone 8 Plus design, but oh well. I'm very happy with my SE 3rd gen 😁
I am planning on getting an SE 3 soon, and you just answered all the questions I had previously when watching other reviews of this phone here on RUclips, very informative video dude, keep it up!
I am watching this video on my iphone 8 Plus. I think SE 2022 will be my next device ❤
Finally pulled the trigger on this one yesterday after a long, unnecessary deliberation. I think it's gonna be just fine.
Sold my iphone 14 pro for se2 and decided to *upgrade* to se3, while having android flagship alongside with se3 to have the BEST of both worlds.
I currently have a 14 pro and I’m struggling to find the value in it. I’ve been considering going to the SE.
I was in your shoes when I had the 12 mini. Apart from the physical battery health draining down to 86% without heavy use, I just didn’t really NEED that phone. Perfectly happy with the SE and what it provides me. I do also see myself not using my phone as much too which is nice. More in the moment.
ok dude you just pushed me from buying iphone 13 mini to iphone se 3... now gotta get the magsafe case....
If you're fine with everything I stated in the video then you'll love the phone. Yeah that MagSafe case is really nice. I also forgot to mention in the video that the phone can charge up relatively fast too. So if you are getting a little low on battery, slap a battery bank on it, and you'll be juiced back up within 30min.
@@alexshotthese that's even more reason to buy it if it can juice up fast.
I’m just really happy that he started by calling out the negativity and had a positive frame of mind from the start! 🙌👏
This is my first iPhone and I love it.
Got my mum one of these (SE2) to upgrade her from the 6S. It's all she needs, for a relatively novice tech user the big iPhones would just confuse her I think. I'm glad they still make an older-style iPhone that just about anyone, whatever your tech level can use.
That’s awesome! I totally agree and not looking forward to them retiring this design/model.
I got this phone a week ago and I’m enjoying it so far. I love the OG design with the home button and the battery isn’t that bad considering how small it is….if only the screen was oled and it had night mode it would be damn near perfect :/
I guess I’m not one of those people who can’t stand the screen. It’s got enough resolution that it’s perfect for me. Night mode built into the camera app is definitely a loss on Apple, but that NeuralCam app I mention in the video still works really well.
@@alexshotthese Oddly enough I actually prefer the LCD screen over OLED because all of my computer monitors are LCD, my tv is LCD, and my laptop is LCD. Maybe I'm OCD but I'd like to keep the uniformity there lmao
I still think LCD is completely viable in 2023. Especially if you’re a company like Apple who has nailed how to LCD’s right.
Good stuff! Just to point out though, while it is an A15, the 14 has the overclocked version from the 13 pro. You honestly wont notice a difference though since Apple phones have so much overhead for power. Another thing is that, at the time of this writing, multiple sources have stated that the SE series will have physical features from either the XR or the mini series, more likely the former. Other than that, great video man! Love the cinematography
Yeah when I made this video the SE 4 was essentially dead in the water, but yeah they’ve started it back up. As you stated though they are going with an all display version so in a sense this IS the last iPhone with a home button and Touch ID.
What a great video! The SE is a nice budget option. This model has the A15 chip. It’s also in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. Yes you read that right. PS I heard the SE4 is back in development too
I agree!! I miss the home button and actually want to switch to the se from a 12 mini
I haven’t really looked back.
I don’t mind the size of the mini’s and all that, but just wish they kept the home button. I prefer it way more than Face ID. I’d definitely pay money for a mix between the two! Bottom half of the iPhone SE model and top half the mini. I’d say you could do away with the notch, but I do know some people actually love Face ID. If they made a model like that then they’d have the best of both worlds.
I agree if the mini had a home button, like the 2016 se, I would keep it as my daily !
however my favorite iphone of all time was the 8plus in red ! I still have mine ! If they brought one back with updated internals and better camera, even if it had lcd I would STILL buy it !!
I don’t blame you for the switch.
Home button is more purposeful than the obsoleted-headphone jack.
I agree. They used the home button for so long that they made it so useful in their phones. Hard to let it go
This is last compact phone that any mobile company could make......We Must thank apple for making this phone with this model even this day
Yep, going to be sad when it’s officially gone.
Thanks for this video, which was (somewhat creepily) the first video listed in my RUclips feed after just now buying a refurbished SE 2022 on Ebay for half the price of a new one. This is to replace my iPhone 8 Plus that has a dying battery, a cracked screen and no iOS 17. It's meant as a stopgap until I can clear the credit for an iPhone 15 Pro, but who knows, maybe I'll get to love the SE and not want to part ways until that dies too.
I love this phone and actually plan to get one here soon
YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!!! This iPhone is incredible for $429 or with some carriers, $189.99. RUclipsrs just get it wrong (except you), I don't think they understand that everyone doesn't need an iPhone 15 Pro Max and not everybody wants to pay like $1299 for it. You did a spectacular job with this video, keep up making these HONEST and TRUTHFUL tech reviews!
Thank you for the love!
I have an iPhone SE 2022 and I love it. I wish it wasn’t going away.
As crazy as it may sound....I might possibly be trading my iphone 11 for the se3.
I've always loved this phone, solid specs, still a great camera and a lot more future proof compared to my 11.
I was originally wanting to trade for the 12 mini but every post I seen of one had less battery percentage health than my 11 (currently 85% health).
So the Se3 is still looking like a solid option
I can attest that the 12 mini battery, for whatever reason, doesn't hold well and it could be just because of the processor. The A15 chip has been amazing. I have a friend who has the 13 mini and they also have had great battery life. Funny enough, the battery life on the 13 mini is very comparable to the SE3. I still love the SE3 and it's form factor.
@@alexshotthese I had a 13mini for about three months & the battery life was terrible 😪 so I had my xr laying around (still very good) considering se3. I loved 7 and se2.
Some people are having luck with the mini and some aren’t I guess. SE3 is still a good option in my opinion.
@sotechy92-Same. I have an iPhone 11, but I really want the SE 3. I miss the home button and I notice I have a lot of pain in my hands from using the 11. It’s just too big. And it’s sad because that seems to be the way phones are going-bigger and bigger each year. I have been watching SE 2022 videos and have almost talked myself into buying an unlocked one on Apple and getting $200 in trade for my iPhone 11.
If you can live without the two camera system for phones the SE is definitely a solid phone. Still loving it.
I love the SE because of it's small size. It can do a lot still, so i don't get why everyone needs a big ass phone which barely fit in their pockets ? Well...maybe it's just us..i love the damn thing.
Great video, I totally agree with you.
Bought the iphone SE 2022 about a week ago and man I couldnt be happier, great size, fits in the pocket, very good battery life for such a small phone, decent camera and yes, thanks for the app suggestions😉
I am so tired of big phones with big screens and thinking I need the best piece of tech.
Instant sub for not automatically shitting on this phone and understanding the point of it.
It’s a great phone for the everyday user, if you use the phone for your business and need the extra capacity and ability to then it’s available. I bought one of these for my wife and a year later needed to replace my outdated phone and got one also. Love it and the battery life is great.
I actually have the SE 2022 and it sure doesn’t sucks, I like it, the size of it, great performance to me with that A15 Bionic Chip. It’s a perfect phone to me. I’ve had it since February and it’s still at 100 percent battery health. I like the home button on it,
Thank you! Glad I’m not alone! Love it’s performance and the A15 chip is amazing for the battery life it seems like.
how do you charge it? overnight charging or charge in between?
@@KrishnaDasPC charge in between and how about you how do you charge yours, let me know how
I usually charge it overnight, but with that case I have that gives it MagSafe, I have a MagSafe car charger mount in my car and charge it while I drive to work and back.
With its ability to charge quick it usually keeps a healthy charge throughout the day.
@@alexshotthese I also charge mine on my way to work if it needs charging and I ain’t got a MagSafe yet to start using on my iPhone. I like when my iPhone charges quick.
I completely agree. I’m using the 2020 SE and love it so I’m sure the 2022 SE is great, I just don’t really have a reason to upgrade yet. I’m even using a 2016 SE (that has had the battery replaced) for an iPod and it is still incredibly smooth.
Absolutely! Really great option too. Also, I still have my 2016 SE as well, but it just sits in a drawer. :(
@@alexshotthese I know it will never happen, but if they ever made plus version of the SE (like 8 plus size), I would throw my money at them LOL
From what I heard they did have a plus SE they were going to release too, but I think they were worried it’d interrupt iPhone mini sales since it’s roughly the same screen size, but then they still discontinued the mini lol.
@@alexshotthese I think if Covid didn't happen when it did, they might of released the Se plus.
i've got the iphone se 2022, it's wonderful. it's the first iphone i've ever had, and i love it.
I do miss the wide lens, i use it very often. but, having to choose between touch id and a wide lens i'll choose touch id every time.
i have an iphone 5 and i have to get a new one. I held on to this phone as long as i could because i ❤️ the size of it and how much it holds for storage and it's just 64 gig. so i have been researching on another small iphone. it was between the 13 mini and SE 3rd gen. I am glad i saw your video about the case! Yes Apple needs to keep small models and if people would buy them and let them know they probably would. Thanks for the vid
I still think the SE is a great choice, but if you loved your iPhone 5 I will say the 13 mini has a very similar design and actually closer to the size of that phone. The only problem is that now the 13 mini has been officially removed from Apple’s website. So only carriers that still have product will have it available.
Thank you for making this video, this is exactly how I feel and I am glad that amongst the tons of bashing videos; this video exists. Not all of us want to spend thousands or have special partnerships and sponsorships to get the latest iPhone every release. Truth is; they only use it once or twice and then onto the next greatest thing… it’s dumb and they don’t get the everyday consumer at all… I love my minimal phone experience; it doesn’t do the bells and whistles but what it is good at is the basics or what I would say I need most; I know I’ve got a solid camera on here; I know my phone will work well and battery life is adequate for my needs; I love how so many tech reviewers also bash the 5G for not being the fancier version of it but guess what? Who cares? I just like that I have faster speeds when browsing the web now and I like that I didn’t have to give my life savings away for that experience. Again; thank you for this; I hope you continue to make videos like this in the future ❤
I love this review because you’re the first guy who said exactly what I’ve been saying for a long time. This is exactly how I feel about the SE. I love it. BTW I don’t subscribe to very many channels, but I just subscribed to yours.
Thank you! I really appreciate that. The SE is an incredibly underrated phone. I actually had to get a work phone and had many new options and then the iPhone 13 mini. Might have to do a video on the two. A preview is the 13 mini is actually a great upgrade from the 12 mini and disappointed they didn’t do a 14 mini and so on, but I still think getting rid of Touch ID for the new phones was a bad idea. I find Touch ID works faster for Apple wallet than a Face ID phone and I’ve been using that more since Covid.
Ive been using SE as my Daily Driver for almost 2 years now,,, BH is 87% now ,,,, im also a heavy user and SE is love And perfect Replacement of My old Iphone 6s ,.., The Way Some of youtubers said its actually not outdated for everyone ,,, It still feels new in performance like When i first bought it
Really good phone hands down I got one after I sold my iPhone 13 & this rocks solid ! 128gb works good so far
Same, I did opt for 128GB as well…that’s the only downside to the phone is that the base model is 64GB….which is pretty useless at this point now.
Bro Can i ask why you ditched your 13 for SE3?
I’ve used11pro for 4yrs now but thinking of upgrading it to SE3 for its weight and touch ID
@@noah-j00 Of course. I had the 12 mini though and not the 13. As I state in my video the 12 mini's battery health just started depleting hardcore, which I'm not a heavy user. That was really the catalyst for me to ditch the phone and I really missed having an SE. Had the original SE which just freaking worked! It was a great phone and really proved how well their older designs held up. Upgraded to the 12 mini after that, it was terrible, and went back with the iPhone SE 2022 which has been a great phone so far. Weight was comparable to my 12 mini and I can actually comfortably reach apps with one hand as well as type with one hand pretty easily. I still had to kind of do a little shuffle with the 12 Mini to reach apps.
@@noah-j00 I sold my 13 because I got kinda tired of it I sell phones so I’m always switching & after switching to the 12 to the 13 there was a big difference but i soon got accustom to the 13 and wanted something different and although to save some money so I bought the se 3 for a steal and saved some money & so for I love it ! Wouldn’t mind a bigger phone but if so I’m going straight to the 13 pro
I don't think 64gb is totally useless if you use icloud for photos. I'm always around 40gb for all phones I've ever had. Just checked I've used 35gb storage
of all the iPhone SE reviews I've seen on RUclips, this is the only 1 I'm bookmarking and instantly become a fan of.
Wholeheartedly agree. There should be options for everyone. I prefer simple!
The SE rocks. I've had mine for 16 months and it does what it needs to do. I didn't want to pay nearly $1000 for a "phone" and was looking for a smaller design. My battery is down to 94%, which I heard isn't too bad. But it seems like it really makes a difference in how long it lasts, like I notice significant less lasting through the course of a day. And even though I have it on optimized battery charging it almost never does the slow charge after 80%. The only downside is the rare occasion I use it in bright sunlight where the screen becomes almost useless and you have to find a shady spot or cup your hand over the screen to see it. Hopefully I'll have it for 6 years like I had my iphone 6. Incidentally because I came from a 6, I don't regard the SE as an old design.
Mine is still at 100%, but I know it won’t last that way. Unfortunately I can’t just turn around and buy a new body down the road as this design looks like it’s the last.
I mentioned it in my video but the case that I got has magnets in it for a MagSafe design. If I’m running low on juice I just throw a MagSafe battery brick on it and go. It’s great because I can just pop it off when I need to. It’s not like in the past when we would have to have batteries built into the case and add bulk/weight to it.
@@alexshotthese That's a good idea with the MagSafe. After 6 months my battery lost 3% it seemed like overnight which was pretty shocking. Luckily the past year or so it's been a steady 1% every few months, which is standard I assume.
@GarretGrayCamera depends on your usage for the phone. I also turned off the 5G since I don’t think 5G is where it should be so it just eats away at battery life. LTE is perfectly fast for my needs.
@@alexshotthese Very good idea!
your music is amazing its making me fall asleep, great video btw too
I have SE3 and I really loved it.
Still a great phone in 2023!
I am really stuck between iPhone 13 mini or iPhone se3 as a backup phone. Is the iPhone se3 more comfortable then the mini? and which one is great as a backup phone?
Yes, I will say the SE3 is more comfortable because of the rounded corners. When I had the 12mini I realized how uncomfortable it was. I was excited to have a design like the iPhone 4s/5 but that quickly faded when I realized how uncomfortable it is compared to the iPhone 8/SE3 design.
And yeah if you’re just needing a backup phone then I think it’ll be great for that. Might even end up loving it enough to be a daily driver.
@@alexshottheseGreat advice. Just went and ordered the iPhone se3. 👍🏻
@@aliovmar That's awesome! I hope you love it. I actually ordered a 256GB option just to have since they'll probably discontinue this model by this time next year.
Thank you awesome video I’m getting it soon
I'm a little late to the party. Anyway, a few months ago I purchased a new iPhone SE 2 (2020) on sale. I was not perfectly happy with the battery life. I recently updated to iOS 16.4.1 and the battery life has increased quite a bit. Strangely, it takes a bit longer to charge but I'm happy with the battery life now. Now I only with I had gone with more storage. Also, I am new to iOS and quite like it. EDIT: I love the "outdated" design.
Interesting! That’s awesome that the latest update has help the 2020 version now too!
Really does suck that the SE will more than likely be no more.. I’ve owned a Product Red SE3 since early September and it’s done everything I could possibly ask of it in a Smartphone and far surpassed my expectations! The same chipset used that was in the 13’s has made this little device practically un-freezable, 5G service works flawlessly in my area, it’s old school TouchID design reminds me of times long past and in all honestly, paying a little under $430 for a brand new, out the box iPhone makes cheapskates like me happy 😂 My only minor annoyance with it would perhaps be the battery life, but it’s totally livable! So really, I’m not all that surprised that a lot of these well known reviewers on here trash talk the SE so much. It’s a future-proof, well put together but miserly on features type of device. Something they absolutely find reprehensible in the tech world. If what they’re reviewing doesn’t have a minimum 2 camera modules, an OLED display, a battery with at least 3000mAh in capacity and a starting price of no less than $800 new, it’s garbage to them… as are the people who’d consider them 😂 Oh well. If I destroy this phone by the time Apple axes the SE altogether, guess I’m going back to buying a 2-3 year old standard issue device of theirs that’s been refurbished and sold on Amazon…
Completely agree, except I did turn 5G off because it is still so new and I don’t think fully optimized yet. If you try turning it off and going back to LTE, I think you’ll see a nice longevity in battery life. Plus, as I mentioned in the video, get yourself that case and MagSafe battery and it’s really not that bad!
Really love this little phone and if they’re not going to do more of them then I’m tempted to just save up and buy another brand new one to have in the box and use when I’m ready to switch.
The se 3 is a beast I do think it at least should been in iPhone 8 Plus body. I don’t think there would be much more to complain about then.
I think what stopped them was the fact that the size of the iPhone 8 Plus body is essentially the iPhone Mini’s screen size so they opted out of releasing it. I love the size of the iPhone SE though so I’m glad they kept it this size.
@@alexshotthesesize is perfect
I'm looking at getting a new phone. The se 2022 was highly recommended for what I need. One of the main things was the size, just right. I am getting tired of being 6" or more; if I wanted a tablet, I'd buy a tablet.
Sorry, tired of cell phones being 6" or more in size
That’s exactly my thoughts. I have a laptop that has a bigger screen, but I also have a dock and monitor with a bigger screen. I have my TV that has the RUclips app or anything I’d want to watch. I have a ps4 for video games. I don’t need my phone to do all those things.
Agreed, I have a laptop and a Ipad if I want a bigger screen. When I am on the go, I don't need a tablet in my pocket.
You don't like the phablet? lol everyone must get the phablet NOW!!
Im using my iPhone 7 for 4 years now, and Im switching soon to se 2023.
That’s the best design ever! I don’t need a plasma TV in my pocket that limits my movement!
Exactly! It just works and is still a comfortable design.
se 2022 is perfect for people not glued to their phone 24/7. Otherwise i can see why people want a bigger screen if it’s their primary computer
Absolutely. If it’s someone’s main entertainment device then I can see why going for bigger phones makes sense. I just am bummed a bunch of tech reviewers bashed this phone when Apple has other phones out for people who want those features. Just doesn’t make sense to me.
Tech reviewers will complain about anything and everything. Some of it is justified but a lot of that is just our world we live in. Everyone wants instant gratification and most are so jaded in the tech community because they use high end phones. So when a phone like the iPhone SE 2022 comes along, tech folks tend to dwell on the negative instead of seeing the positives.
Truth be told, I am considering this phone but one major drawback for me is the screen on it. I could care less about OLED because while it's nice, it's a novelty and not a necessity. I hate the old school tv movie letterboxing on the display. Had Apple chosen to make it edge to edge like the 12 and 13 minis, I do believe it would've been perfect. But even the screen size isn't a deal breaker and this phone gets a lot right. Very detailed and insightful review! You gotta respect one of the few voices defending this device and I hope Apple ignores the haters and makes more SE phones in the future. Hopefully next time around they will give us a fuller display without the letterbox effect.
Really good and to the point review. I sometimes use the panoramic feature in the camera app of the SE 3 to simulate a ultra wide shot. I recently “downgraded” from the 14 pro. It’s freeing IMHO.
It really is. I’m not constantly tied to my phone and use my TV or computer to watch stuff if I want. It’s been great.
Alex would you please help me 🙂. I'm confused between iPhone SE 2022 and iPhone 12 minu . It'll be my secondary phone. Which one should I purchase?
I moved over to Apple when they went to Face ID. I like Apple devices quite a bit, I just didn't like the pre-X models. I have a 13 mini for family emergencies that may occur while I'm sleeping, as only family has that number. I use a 14 Pro Max for my regular phone. I like the size of the 13 mini as well as it being lighter, but I like the cameras on the 14 PM. A pal at work has the SE 2 and he loves it. When he was thinking of upgrading from his original SE, I told him to check out the SE2 as I figured he'd be happy with it. I was right. Watch tech reviews for enjoyment but get the phone YOU want that suits you. After all, YOU are the one who has to use and like it. Not society at large. Nice vid.
I love your review. Make perfect sense & delivered useful info. I have been using iphone se 2020 as my primary phone for 3 years and my battery is still at 84% and recently bought iphone se 2022 just incase Apple do no produce phone with home button anymore. I ever used iphone X and iphone 11 but still preferred iphone SE. Everyone have their own preference and I realized that I am a home button person & not a fan of huge phone at the same time. Iphone SE ia a great compact phone which I referred as Simple but Neat. Keep it up bro👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for watching and commenting. Means a lot. Yes the SE is still a very capable phone even in 2023. Going to be sad once they officially scrap the home button completely.
My first iPhone was the SE (1st gen). It lasted until December 2022. Then, in January of 2023, I purchased a brand-new iPhone 11 (128GB). It runs insanely smooth.
That’s awesome! Yeah even some of the older models still run ridiculously smooth. Apple is just good at optimizing iOS which is another reason I like to stick with them.
I’m also a user of SE gen1 from 2017. Recently it fell down and crashed. Now thinking about to buy an SE 2022 or to buy a used SE gen1 . What’s your opinion pal..
Honestly, at this point, I’d probably go for the SE 2022. It also depends on what you’re looking for in a phone. The SE3 is bigger than the SE1 so if size is something important than yeah maybe find a used SE1, but the size difference between the two isn’t too bad.
With the SE3 you’ll get a bigger battery, better camera, and the A15 bionic chipset so you’ll be good on software upgrades for many more years.
@@alexshotthese replying you from a third gen SE !! Enjoying the simple beast.
Nice! Doing the same! Haha.
this is the most honest tech youtube that i know so far, thanks for the info.
I appreciate that! Really means a lot considering I don’t think of myself as a tech RUclipsr. I’ll lump this in with the everyday guys who actually use their devices normally.
Thank you so much for this video!! SE is an awesome phone!!
Thank you and I completely agree!
100% agree, thank you for the video!
I got mine today (the red one) I'm very happy.
Hi Alex! First of all what a great video and regards from Mexico! I was remembering when on 2022 I was deciding on buying the iPhone SE 3rd gen or the iPhone 13 Mini and at the end I chose the 13 Mini due to many features such as the cameras, MagSafe and Face ID but, I realized I don’t take a lot of pictures and I really miss the Touch ID but the main reason is how thin this iPhone SE is. I’m very happy with my13 Mini but it was a very difficult decision when I bought it cause my previous phone was an iPhone SE 1st gen and I loved the form factor and design.
That is a tough decision! The mini was, also, a great phone and powerful. Mini has already been chopped from the lineup so it's life expectancy will be less. The SE is looking like will be the last model of it's kind after this year. There are rumors of a new SE with it being all screen and 6.1in, which doesn't make sense. I wish they'd bring back the mini and make that the SE. I know I love touch ID and wish it would stick around in newer devices.
Due to financial problems I have to downgrade from a 14 pro to an SE 2020 but I found one for $100 128gb. Im sad but I gotta do what’s best for me financially. Hoping it will get me through the next 6 months. Im lowkey sad but its just a phone. This video and comments are helping me with this transition! Im a bit dramatic but my new bill will be way cheaper!
Try to cheer up. As you just said, it’s just a phone. You can still do things on it the same as your 14 Pro. The important thing that I feel like we’ve all forgotten is we can still call and text our loved ones or our friends. We’re never saying things like, “remember my sweet phone years ago?” No…we’re always remembering and reminiscing about the people in our lives.
Also; ANY phone is going to run out of battery if your editing videos on it or whatever…. Again; to the tech RUclipsrs; I’m not editing a video on my phone like that so no; it’s not crap because of that… I also love the older design and having the home button; that’s why I am using this phone!! 😅
Exactly, if you’re playing games on your phone constantly it’ll drain it or if you’re watching videos constantly, but I have other entertainment systems to do that that are better designed for it. I want a phone to do simple tasks! Browse web, text, make phone calls, and take great photos.
The SE does all those things wonderfully. Thank you for watching and commenting, means the world!
It’s a vintage design that looks beautiful
I got this phone after my iPhone 11 kicked the bucket. It's a great little phone, I'm not a heavy user anymore so it fits my needs. It's difficult to hold a huge phone so this is ideal with my arthritis. It's light weight too so that's grand. My company uses these as work phones too and the are magic. I tried a Samsung but they aren't for me.
More than a year with iPhone 13 Pro Max and still at 98% 🔋 health, charge it at 30% and unplug it when you have 80% charge, and turn it off once in a while, I turn it off every single night when I know I will not use it anymore 🤓
While I overall wouldn’t choose the SE over a flagship model, *most* of the decisions made for cost cutting wouldn’t really bother me much. I don’t really care whether a screen is LCD or OLED. I don’t really care for the “all screen” design, between the notch and curved edges and the aspect ratio that come as a result it’s not really a major improvement. On my iPhone XR, the only issue I really have with the camera is that it gets grainy with digital zoom, I only infrequently wish I had the ultrawide or telephoto lenses.
The only reasons why I would never choose to buy an SE (operating under the assumption that the internals are the same as the latest baseline iPhone, which, granted, is only true one year in two) are
- I don’t like smaller screens, they’re hard for me to type on accurately
- Touch ID doesn’t like me much on any device I’ve used it on, face ID is hard to give up
And, well, I could look past those if I had to for budget reasons. You can get a 2022 SE refurbished for under $200, and at that price point it’s an incredible deal. It’s ahead of $1200 Androids in terms of raw CPU speed, which while that’s not everything (OBVIOUSLY it isn’t a better phone overall than an S23 Ultra), raw CPU speed means it’ll never have any hiccups doing day-to-day tasks for years to come.
I Feel You. It‘s exactly how you tell us. This Phone is underrated and many People just make hate on this Device. I love mine too🙏🏻💪🏻👍🏻
Fun fact: The only people that say the SE series suck are the ones who've never owned one (and yes, I have had all three generations, the 2022 is my current phone)
I think it’s just the fact that most iPhone users have had a variation of this device is the turn off, but having updated internals is what’s nice. Personally I like this design and I find it more comfortable to hold with its rounded edges.
@@alexshotthese plus as a smaller guy who pretty much always wears skinny jeans it is one of the very few new phones that a) fits in my pocket and b) I can take out of said pocket without having to stand up!
P.S.: TouchID doesn’t hurt either, I am not big on FaceID
Glad to have come across this video,as i couldnt make up my mind for buying an SE 2022...all doubt's gone now...SE 2022 it is 🙂
I have a iPhone 13 pro max sitting in the drawer, using the iphone SE 2020 with the A-13 bionic chip. A Fast & Convenient run around phone.
The iPhone SE 2020 is still a great phone too. I just enjoy the 2022 since it does have the newer chip, but also the slightly bigger battery.
Your videos are fricking amazing and love the review
My mom had the OG iphone 8 and i told her many times to upgrade when she complained about the battery only lasting half a day. but she didn't like big phones and didn't want it to cost too much. and she was used to the home button.
i think this SE is a good upgrade for her. since she is not a heavy user either. she just looks up stuff on the internet and uses social media like any other person.
i'm personaly happy that apple made this. even tho i'm a samsung user and prefer Android over IOS. the simplicity of this iphone is just perfect for my mom that only has a very basic understanding of using an iphone. its only odd to know that her iphone would be more powerfull than my S21 Ultra. but my screen and camera's are a lot better ofcourse.
she will get it tomorrow. i hope she will be happy. and i definitly stand behind your opinion.
i guess people where upset because they don't want to have the feeling they are walking around with an iphone 8 for a new iphone.
That while people with an iphone 8 can claim they have the SE.
you explained this very professional in such a calm intelligent way.
there was a very cosy atmosphere through the video that i enjoy.
the brownish/red colours gave such a warm vintage feeling like some old pictures give. while it also reminds me of hot coffee and chocolate milk.
Your denim jacket is a timeless piece of clothing that is okay to wear in the past, is relevant today, and won't disappear anytime in the near future.
your video just has this timeless look and feel to it that will never feel dated.
even when the iphone 60 comes out. i just had to say it. its unique.
I think your mom will love the updated battery as well as just the speed/efficiency of the SE2022. Also, thank you for the comment on my video style! That means a lot.
Did your mum like her se 3?
Hello Alex -
Maybe ask which magsafe charger you slapped on the back of the phone for this video? Great and down to earth video and a new subscriber. Thanks
Hey Kent! Absolutely, I have the link in my description. Not an affiliate link or anything, just genuinely want people to find it and get it for their SE3.
@@alexshotthese hmmm. I see the link for the case but perhaps I am missing the one for the actual magsafe charger you slapped on the back.
Ooooh the MagSafe CHARGER, got it. I just added it to my description.
I'm just waiting until September to trade my iPhone 14 Pro back in. It's been so glitchy and all, I'm constantly rebooting or restarting. Never had those problems with my SE. Apple just needs to update the camera on the SE, give it magsafe technology and LEAVE the damn home button alone!!! LOL. IMO, the home-button will always be more intuitive than Face ID - great video Alex!!!
Thank you so much for this video. I am a tech reviewer, but I don’t go for the latest upgrades every year. I am actually planning to sell my iPhone 12 Pro Max and get an iPhone SE 3. I recommended it for my mother and my cousin and I love the old-school form factor. I had an iPhone 7 Plus for over five years. The only reason why I had to upgrade is because I dropped my phone and the sound card broke 😭. I could not find anyone that was willing to fix it but I was wanting to keep the phone for longer. It was in great shape otherwise. Thank you so much for this video because the iPhone SE is a great deal and it does everything every other iPhone does pretty much. Some people like to get caught up in the hype of the latest and the greatest but I’m not like that. I like to be somewhat practical.
You’re welcome! I do wish tech would slow down a bit. I feel we’ve kind of plateaued on innovation and it’s because companies were updating like every year when they didn’t need to.
I wish Apple would go back to including an S line since that gave some more time to update a design for the phone. I think that was a miss on their party ditching it because from the 13 to the 14…there legitimately wasn’t that big of a difference. Felt like an S update, but since they ditched that and decided to go up with the numbers now it should feel like a massive update. Oh well, still loving this old design. The rounded corners actually do feel more comfortable than the flat edges.
@@alexshotthese I agree with you. The upgrades are more noticeable on the numbered devices versus just saying that you are using an SE (you don’t have to say which generation if you don’t want to). Socially I like the idea of having older school tech out in public. It’s definitely a conversation piece. The phone does everything that other smart phones on the market do. I’m looking forward to having the smaller form factor. I had to start buying larger sized purses just to carry the plus size versions of these phones. It’s been well over seven years of doing that. I like minimalist design and smaller handbags so this phone is going to be perfect for me! I truly appreciate your perspective.🙏🏿
Thank you for this video. I don't understand why some tech RUclipsr need to trash this product. I am still using my iPhone 8, and planning on upgrading to the iPhone SE 2022 soon. Not everyone can afford to buy a $1000 phone every year. I believe that a lot of the tech reviewer's are full of BS.
There are a few tech RUclipsrs that I do value their opinions, but most of them do tend to trash this phone and they just keep forgetting what the main purpose is of this phone. It’s not meant for them who love all those bells and whistles, but for people like us who just want a good phone that can make calls, text, browse the web, look through social media, and maybe play the occasional game or two. Even then I’d recommend nabbing an iPad mini or an older iPad to play games and stuff.
True there are a few good tech reviews out there like yourself, but still there are plenty who just don't understand. Other than your channel I enjoy the tech reviewer Zollotech.
I appreciate that!
Got a 12 mini after cracking the home button on my iPhone 8 in 2020 and hated it. Switched to a 3rd Gen SE back in October and haven’t looked back.
Used to have a 12 mini too, but just didn’t fully care for Face ID. SE has been a great phone.
Most of the arguments against this phone is “Yeah the SE does it fine but my $1200 phone does it a bit better.”. Of course it does It costs so much more.
You just touched on a bigger issue in the tech RUclips space. They all seem to be singing the same tune. They all saying foldables are the future, but they seem expensive and fragile. They keep wanting to put Mac OS on iPad when tablets with Dex, and Full Windows don’t put a dent into iPad sales.
Just in general it’s a circle jerk of narratives. I love seeing new tech, but they all seem stuck on the same narrative and think film editing is the only pro activity one does on their device.
Just picked up the Iphone se 2022 used, with still 99% battery health for $150. Then traded in my old XR to Best Buy for a $150 gift card. Awesome deal for me, love the smaller size. I have a up to date software for years to come and can use the gift card when something else catches my eyes.
Most RUclips reviewers have a limited tunnel vision and instead of approaching the review as a target group, they compare and evaluate it with the incomparable.
It's a shame that famous personalities on RUclips have such an influence on the public and will influence or turn the direction the product could go.
Personally, I like the latest technology, but I want a phone that is compact, fast with a reliable camera for everyday use and a nice design. Everything that SE 3rd gen offers is what I need.
Hopefully we will see similar products in the future, but better marketing strategies and product positioning from Apple.
Absolutely, I’m all for the latest tech, but for the most part it’s not leaps and bounds different than some of the older tech. Early on, the iPhone was paving the way and making jumps with their phones but for awhile now it hasn’t been crazy. They’re killing it with their silicon chips though. Absolutely crushing the computer space again.
Good video! Serious question. Which would you choose, an iPhone SE 2022 at $400 or an iPhone 11 at $500? Both new and 64 GB.
Love this phone and love when other people like it too!
Thank you! It’s gem of a phone.
