Well Excuse me Janey! I’ve been watching your vids since the beginning so I feel qualified to say… how in the world could you have been further along? Your last garden was burgeoning with stunning plants AND you took on the lane down the street, began and completed your Master Gardeners program and fulfilled that commitment to share what you learned. Through those contacts you started bringing us with you into other fab gardens. Let’s not forget the beginning of your merch! I love my hat and stickers, bought some for gardening friends. Then , bold move, moved into this property. Gotta say was a bit worried for you. What an undertaking! But as always in your stride! Through you we found Robbie and have enjoyed your friendship. So much hard work to be done and you’re killing it! It’s only been virtually months since you claimed this space and through a broken foot and surgeries, illness and general family chaos 😉 you and Jason have been raising two lovely daughters, big job commitments, dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens and all the while filming, editing and offering it all up to your viewers! Sorry that was a bit of a rant! 😆

I have an acre and a half to garden on. I so enjoy watching you develop your property. I have lived on my property for fifty years. 13 years ago this month a tornado came through and wiped out most of my yard and gardens including many many trees. So I started over with a blank slate. I worked full time until I retired three years ago. Now I have less money and less strength and energy at age 75, but I am still adding new beds and hardscape (no sense😆). Anyway, I very much enjoy seeing what you are doing in your yard. I appreciate your videos so much.

Janey, do you have any idea how many of us watch YOU first over all the original and very established YT gardeners ? It’s not a contest of course, however you have brought a sense of realism, relatability, freshness and friendship to what is already a heavily populated platform. Your personality and excitement at everything you discover is an absolute delight, and you are a natural and gifted teacher. Who you are is just as important as what is being put into your garden, so your garden does not need to be anywhere near where more mature gardens are. Plus, you’ve done so much!!!! Girl, are you crazy for doubting yourself???? We love you ❤. Everytime I see your garden in the background, I can imagine walking slowly down the paths as the sun goes down at the end of the day, and I know how the plants and soil smell and the sound of the breeze and bees in the background, because I garden myself. No gardener is going to look at what you’ve done and scoff that you aren’t further ahead!

I appreciate gardening is your love & occupation but look at how much you have achieved. I think for the large majority of us we are always very critical of ourselves whereas we don’t see & cherish what we’ve actually achieved. It’s fabulous what you & Jason with the girls have accomplished in less than 1 year 💚💚👩‍🌾💚💚

Good morning. One should never compare their garden to those whom you watch or see on other RUclips videos or in magazines. One has to be aware that those people have been gardening for years and these are accomplished or established gardens. Your gardens are where they should be and you are an amazing gardener. That is why proven winners has been working with you. Also remember that if you are comparing yourself today to the garden from your other home that would be unfair to yourself. You worked on that garden for a few years to get it to where it was before you moved. As well as this property has not been worked on for many years and so you have to improve the ground so that you can plant and work on it without getting sore or burned out. Remember that you can only do what you can in a day and gardening needs to be a pleasure not something that is going to make you feel like you had enough. Love your channel and have a wonderful day.

I really don't think you realize how much your garden has become an inspiration to me and I'm sure many of your other followers. Like you, I'm in zone 9b in California and to be able to see what you plant in your "Best for the West" garden has helped me tremendously in choosing plants for my backyard which we recently had hardscaped. Like you, as I work the yard, I think of all the things I need to do and get disappointed that I'm not further along, but I also know that gardening is a journey, and eventually, like you, I'm sure my garden will be uniquely mine just as your garden will reflect you. 😀

Janey, I've followed your channel for a long time now. When you moved to your new place, I thought you had a daunting project on your hands (e.g. needing a pry bar to get into the soil!!!!). Last week as you were planting your lemon coral sedum, I thought, what a phenomenal amount of development you've done on this property!!! If you get discouraged, take a look at one of those early videos and remember the diamond in the rough you started with! And believe it or not, time is the gardeners friend. There is no arriving, only doing...

I have two questions, 1st is are you able to get some of your T-Shirts in a darker color? Like navy or black? I just can't wear lighter colors.(And I really want to get one!) 2nd - are you still volunteering in that alleyway by your old property? You haven't mentioned it and I was wondering how all the plants look now.
I love how your new property is coming along! It inspires me every day to get outside in my acre of dirt and plant something beautiful. I love the best for the west garden and because of you and how gorgeous it is turning out, I'm looking for as many of the same plants to add to my garden. (So Cal 9b ). Thank you for your inspiration.

Hi Janie, I have the same issue with my salvia but for me it’s flea beetles. Last year I planted radishes as trap crops nearby and it helped. Also read to scratch the surface of the soil around the plant in spring to bring up their eggs to surface where they will not survive. And then I apply DE but it rains alot here so that’s not always the best solution for me.

When I first moved into my house I thought Yea I've got a garden, and that came with a lot of other things too. I was very frustrated, watched the garden videos and sighed a lot. Then a neighbor told me their house/garden was going on seven years in the making. He said take your time, don't rush just enjoy what you have and are accomplishing. That is what I do now and I'm a much better gardener, happy in my space. I'm not "jealous" of the youtube gardeners and their beautiful land. I love mine and each year I add or take away plants doing what I want to do. Afterall, you're not on a timeline. The worse thing would be not enjoying what you have/done. Have a lovely weekend.

Janey I love learning from you. I’m also in zone 9B. My question is about the stain or painted fence. They sure make your plants pop, but don’t you have to worry about the color bleeding through on the neighbors side? I wasn’t sure if you sprayed or rolled the color on. I want to try it, but I have 4 adjacent neighbors and wouldn’t want the stain to bleed through to their side of the fence. Can you please advise even though you did that last year?
