My heart goes out to all of the gardeners in Calgary, Alberta who are unable to water their gardens for weeks due to a catastrophic water main break. Sending you and your gardens a long distance hug. ❤️🇨🇦
Sending hugs 🫂 from South Western Ontario ❤
You are so kind to send this message.
...and more hugs from Winnipeg ❤
Thankyou. Yes I have held back planting🤪🇨🇦(Calgary)
I empathize with you Joanne. 💗🇨🇦
Well, I wasn't able to make it to Turlock but I thoroughly enjoyed Saturday morning coffee chat on Saturday morning after working in the cooler morning air for several hours. What a treat!!
Coffee chat is just a right this morning!
Love these coffee chats.❣
Princess Fluffy Butt!! 😂🐓🇨🇦. Great Q/A as usual Janey! I wish I could film my garden and send it to you, but we just had a hail storm and Edward Scissor Hands ran amuck through my beds!! 🫣🇨🇦🌸
I agree that Lisa Mason Ziegler is a wealth of knowledge! Her podcast called "Seed Talk" gives very specific information on growing different types of cut flowers from seed, including whether or not to pinch, correct harvest time, etc. Thanks for the chicken update! I wondered how they were doing.
Thanks for the great feedback on my question. I’m putting in drip line today, going to try it on my own because you guys have made it seem “approachable” 😊. Kerri
I’m sure it will go well. I never thought I could do it before but after watching so many drip irrigation how-to videos, I did it myself ❤over a year ago and it has worked out so well!
For all my rural gardener friends who deal with rabbits, dog owning or not, onions onions onions! I have been using all forms for ornamental barrier purposes, it also helps with detering the deer. Also, rosemary, sage, oregano. All those heavily scented plants will help deter the wildlife from your more tender and delicious plants. 😉
Mexican food is my fav too!! I grew up in SoCal and I had the benefits of living in a place blessed with Latino culture, including the food. 😃
I grew up in La Puente, San Gabriel Valley!
You should eat at El Jardin while you are at TheGreenery today. It’s right down the street from Greenery- same street
Hi Janey there was a ton of useful information on the chat today. Thank you for that. Also the garden is looking great.
Free compost! California gold! I love your channel here in Butte County. Great PJ garden tour!
Always a pleasure spending my mornings with you!
Good morning. You are so funny because you say you don't get mulch for free however the Chip Drop is a form of mulch and yes that is free. So in theory you do get mulch for free. Love your channel. You have inspired me to do research for my area and get the native plants for my garden. Enjoy your day and your bunnies and chicks.
Mexican food is my favorite. When we 1st moved arkansas from Calif. They didn't have 1 mexican restaurant here or no mexican food to cook in any grocery stores so moma ask the manager to start ordering mexican food, so he did so then we were able to make enchiladas, tacos, burritos an etc. We were so happy then. And then there was a small taco hut put in just down the street from us so i was able to go there a lot!!
I have a glorious crepe Myrtle tree and it is loaded every year with blooms. I have never pruned it!
Janey holding coffee in Davis CA, me holding coffee in Raleigh NC. (Also me loving a surprise .2 inch rain during the night in a very dry spring in the Raleigh.) Good start to a Saturday!
OK, I prune my crêpe myrtle every year it has tons of blooms so maybe I’ll skip a year and see if it has even more blooms, thank you, great advice!
Hi Janey, who knew they were so many varieties of heliotrope?! It’s no wonder why mine are so short. I love your Q&A‘s. I learn so much from them. 🥰🇨🇦
Thanks for answering the Santos question! Haha I'm Filipina and was wondering the same thing.
An additional thought on your weed answer…as you learn to identify weed vs flower, also learn about which weeds are invasive in your area. There are a couple weeds where I live that are quite pretty and I had been leaving alone until I discovered were invasive. So much to learn! I’ve still yet to get coneflowers and verbena bonariensis to return - pretty sure I weed it out in spring. 🤦🏻♀️ Next year….
I just got espoma fertilizer at Home Depot too but no Biotone. So I stocked up on some others 🙌🏻 my husband gave me a strange look for getting all excited and saying “oh they have the good stuff!!” 😅
Janey, love your videos and your visits to other people’s gardens. Question, are you still active with the master gardeners in your area ? I remember you saying one of your goals was to help make you tube videos for them.
Janey! Now I understand why I like you so much. You're a girl after my own heart! I didn't know you were a PT...I'm an OT and I think that explains a lot! I like the way you think :).I wonder if you miss working in the PT world?! Also, glad to hear your ankle is better and I pray your balance returns sooner rather than later. Love your coffee chats so much!
PTs & OTs are the best!
I'm a nurse!
@@DinaLinardos I notice lots of peeps in the medical profession are gardeners! I guess we thrive with the nurturing outlet that gardening is!
I just got the Deluth overalls. I absolutely love them!
Hi Janey, Just love your personal style and easy-going attitude snd you bring it to everything and everyone!
One tiny thing...could you please add the comma after 'nation'..'the .nation's', not 'the nations' I'm sure it's no big deal to anyone other than writers and readers...but there are a substantial few of us.
Again, LOVE YOU ALL WDPR🌻🌳🦋🌱🌸🙏
Concerning the pruning of crepe myrtles it's called crepe MURDER !!
Yes! I see crepe murder all over Texas and it drives me bananas!🍌
Hi Janey! I love your coffee chats. I also think I’d love love your coffee. What type of coffee maker do you use?
Nespresso
Janey, I’m in Zone 9a, Foley, AL. I want to plant Bells Of Ireland but don’t know anything about them. Can you please talk about them when you sow your cut flower seeds. Thank you.
Love your show. And my garden isn’t at peak yet. But maybe next year! Thank again you are awesome!
Beautiful 😍😍
Hi Janey 😊
You should grow some Water 🍈🍈🍈🍈 Melon plants along with your pumpkin plants, chicken could be fed with home grown melons
Thanks so much for all of your videos. You and Jason are really great. I have a non plant related question for you, where did you get your glass coffee mug? It is so pretty. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Hi Janey, would it be possible to install a fan in the chicken coup to cool it down? The bunnies might come out more if it’s cooler. What do you think? The chickens are nice and so are the bunnies.
Wanted to share "Ginny's Gardening Rule" with you regarding various and sundry Shoulds & Shouldn'ts for planting in your garden.
Rule: The plants don't know what it says in the books!
Do what works best for you in your situation - you'll have some successes and some failures, just like we all do in our gardens!
Of course, common sense must be applied generously!
❤
💖🌸👍🏻🌸💖
We have a hard time finding land and sea here in NW Iowa, too. And if you have it shipped to you it is $$$.
There are some other brands we have access to, but I like land and see better. The most prominent brand of soil, etc that we have access to is worthless and very inexpensive.
I will be looking into free compost in my county.
@stitcher54 I order mine from Creekside Nursery Dallas N. Carolina. The owners are Jerry and Jenny and they have a youtube channel called Gardening with Creekside. I ordered two bags at $24.99 each and the shipping was free. I live in Southern Ca.
JACKPOT: land and sea
Hi, I am hearing impaired. I love your voice and pattern of speech because it is easy to determine what you are saying. In the voiceover, because your lips are not moving, it is hard for me to tell what you are saying. Just something to think about when doing this. ❤
Sad the farmers have to pay 😒
Silky eggs are tiny. You’ll need three for every one normal egg. A dozen eggs a week is probably a high expectation for silkies. They are just for pretty.
Janey when you were talking about Jason being Portuguese it made me think about my recent trip to Portugal! If you and Jason ever get the chance to travel there, I just wanted to say that I think you would love it! The climate is similar to yours, and the gardens and agricultural were beautiful and inspiring. I actually came home and planted a ton of nasturtiums because we saw so many gorgeous ones on our travels. 😄
I just moved from SF after 46 yrs to central ca. pretty new at gardening but zone 9B I think. I was able to copy your invisible wall trellis technique you shared with the eye hooks ! On a sadder note I transplanted a climatis ( I think that's what it is) and looks like it's dying. I hope there is hope.
Wish I would've known about your lecture I. Turlock would
Have loved to make a trip
Oh yeah! I got to comment first. Janey you are a wonderful person and I love your videos - my New Zealand garden has a lot of Janey inspiration! Thank you.
Janey, I’m in Zone 9a, Foley, AL. I want to plant Bells Of Ireland but don’t know anything about them. Can you please talk about them when you sow your cut flower seeds. Thank you.
Love how you handled the hibiscus comments. I was one of them and I think you handled it well. Stick to your guns haha
@Cherylyvonne649 I’m in SoCal also and I just order my Espoma Land and Sea through Amazon.
Such valuable info about landfill compost. Going to look into it for sure. Now I wonder... a friend took advantage of free mulch. Turned out to be full of poison oak. I wonder if the heat would clear toxins. I have homework to do.
I see you on your knees all the time and wonder how you get your jeans or bibs clean?? Love your videos. You and Jason have worked soooo hard and your yard is being transformed before our eyes.
Not sure if I sent my question to the right place…could you tell us how you finished up the drip system you did in this week’s video? I’m confused how you got .8 g/p/h to the jasmine but 2.5 to the Bobo’s. Ty
A Gardner friend said a weed is anything you don’t want in your garden
Please know this compost some of it was sprayed with pesticides. On flower ok but vegetables etc I would not if you are not spraying yourself. Love your channel
Maybe on camera the hibiscus looked closer to the fence than it actually was. ❤️
I also live in Davis, CA.
Re: Espoma Land & Sea Compost, I have been ordering it online from Esbenshades with good luck. Bummer that we can’t buy it locally here due to silly CA rules.
Ace hardware has ALOT of espoma produts. Thats where i buy mine. Home depot also has some. They dont have land and sea though.
Question… what is that beautiful white cup looking flower….?
I thought chip drop was free? When you said you didn’t get free mulch I’m confused. I was going to sign up for them. Maybe you aren’t considering that mulch.
I have dog and the bunnies could careless 😢
I love learning something new. From your video today, I learned why I've had to resort to ordering Espoma Organic Land and Sea compost from online. Just made me shake my head again about learning of another annoying California "rule." AND I had no idea there are STA certified free compost/mulch county sites. Thank you for this interesting information.
Do you give the bunnies salt licks when they are outside? We had outdoor bunnies as a kid and gave them salt licks, extra water, and shade in the summer. In the winter lots and lots of hay! And we had to keep their water from freezing. Of course, I live in southeast New England, so requires could very well be different!
Hi Janey, Thank you for answering my question about the crepe myrtle. I have never actually pruned back branches...just the dead flowers but the tress is too tall now. I'm glad to know that I don't need to do even that. 😊
I started my snps wy early last summer and had to pinch them over and over and had a stellar harvest this year
Yoga with Kassandra on RUclips is my favorite! You could do it on your patio or deck or in your greenhouse to make it Hot Yoga! Daily yoga and gardening are my obsessions - they really do compliment each other. Jason would love it to. I can picture the two of you in your lovely garden - practicing yoga and building your balance - what fun!
My create Myrtle is 30 years old and has never been pruned it is twice as tall as my house and is covered in blooms every year
Great information re: pinching flowers and compost! Thanks. ❤M
Oh my gosh, I am Portuguese also!
First of all, I WANT SILKIES!!!!
Note: There is a long standing debate of whether or not Portuguese are considered "hispanic" because they are part of the Iberian peninsula. Most people will self-identify. I had a classmate who did identify as hispanic and latin with ancestors from Portugal and the same holds true with Brazilians. Regardless, how they identify and how the census wants to label them, both countries are beautiful with amazing people and traditions.
Good to know on Espoma Land and Sea. I'm in So. Cal high desert and I order through Walmart shipping or Amazon. It is expensive but its trusted. The stuff at Lowe's and Home Depot seems to be very woody, splinters or has gnats.... and I can never remember which was what.
I am also in Southern Ca. I have ordered from Creekside Nursery North Carolina. Gardening with creekside has a you tube channel with Jenny and Jerry. It was a little cheaper than Amazon, and I do have prime. They offer free shipping
Never prune your crêpe myrtle tree. It’s called crêpe murder when you do. I agree.
I saw the cutes fuel tank painted as a big green caterpillar.
Great coffee chat.❤❤❤
For those of you looking for Land and Sea Compost, I have ordered it off of Amazon before. Not sure if they will deliver in Cali but that is another option. It is amazing compost and I highly recommend it.
They do ... I've ordered it online here in southern California
❤ 🇵🇹
Hey Janey! Do you find the Duluth garden overalls run big? I am trying to decide on a size. Thanks in advance if you have time to answer this.
I’m not Janey but I think they do run big! I have the short ones and enjoy them.
@@judyandrews1605 Thanks for info
Always enjoy watching your videos.
Hi. We can't get land and sea in Massachusetts either. Love your videos and enthusiasm!!!
I have ordered Land and Sea compost from Amazon and also Espoma products.
Janey you are correct , it is up to you on pinching. My Hollyhocks I didn’t pinch and they got to be 6 foot tall and beautiful blooms.
Hi Jenny, it's nice to hear you mentioned about Filipino. I'm a Filipino and living now here in Virginia. Never missed a day to watch your videos!
Would love to hear your talk on the heat plants.
Yup, you learn as you garden... but just a couple of tips. My other gardener friend told me long ago weed grow overnight, and they grow really fast, and some of them have a bitter smell to it. Flowering plants take their time to grow, and they don't have a bitter smell to it.
I guess you have never smelt bee balm it smells like a skunk and looks like a weed!
Tai Chi would be worth starting instead of yoga.
Question: hi Janey, while I love gardening I’m much better at drinking coffee and I have to know what is in your go to coffee, how you make it, what coffee maker do you have, and since Jason was here last coffee chat how does his cup differ from yours 😋
