I think the multiverse stuff is far less important than the movie basically being about radical empathy and an antidote to depressive nihilism via such empathy. The sci-fi stuff gets talked about too much and focussed on to the detriment of what the movie truly conveys.
The only thing I would deduct points for is their mandarin. It's bad. Very bad. And I don't understand why the directors made them speak mandarin when Evelyn and Grandpa are clearly Cantonese speakers
