This came at a time when the Asian community needed to be humanized. This isn't just a movie. It's a salve that we as a society needed so much. Thank you Daniels.
I just feel, they should give some acknowledgment from where they “lifted” the title: ‘Everything, everywhere, all at once’, an album by the artist “The Caretaker”.
They deserve the Oscar it goes without saying. And if their Editor doesn't win--that would be crazy. One of the most extraordinarily edited films I've ever seen. And the fact that we can follow it coherently on this wild ride and it packs the visual and visceral wallop that it does is nothing short of miraculous and amazing. @@lan-hwang I don't know if that includes everything with the movie. Like distribution. But the internet says around 25 million and box office around 107 million.
When I hear "executives" were opposed to the casting, It boggles my mind. I'm glad the Daniels stood their ground and made this wonderful movie with wonderful performances, and found an audience. One day in a book if not sooner I hope someone writes about these so called "executives". Call them out and name names... I've heard this all too many times where know it all industry "executives" kept the door closed to may amazing stories, and performances like this, then are all surprised when they are amazing blockbusters and hits.
If many top executives would shut up and let Filmmakers have full control of their projects more amazing films like this could be realized. Give movies back to the artists.
Watching this film was such an emotional experience. I remember I started crying around the tail end of the movie. I looked to my right and my husband was crying too. We both felt so many connections to the film and we ended up hugging. I had fairly recently been diagnosed with ADHD, and I was in the process of healing my relationship with my mother and dealing with my guilt and regrets. It was an overwhelming experience, the laughs, the fights, the beautiful tributes to other films, and the characters. I love this movie so much. Thank you Daniels.
That's why this movie resonated so much with us ordinary movie goers. There was father/daughter trauma between Evelyn and her dad. Husband/wife trauma between Evelyn and Waymond. Mother/daughter trauma between Evelyn and Joy. Not to mention 3 levels of generational trauma between Gong Gong, Evelyn and Joy with her being gay. Then on top of this their mom & pop business is being audited by the IRS as well as Waymond and Evelyn filing for divorce. Tell me someone who doesn't have some type of conflict like this going on in their lives.
For people who ‘don’t get’ the movie… you have to suspend disbelief and watch how it all ties together….which it does beautifully. You have to stop the resistance to how the story is told. Just let it flow.
I haven't seen Tar, but I can imagine it's about some annoying white woman that talks for 2 hours, pretends to conduct, pretends to play a piano, and knocks over a guy at one point. No one has disputed my claim. I'd much rather Michelle who played multiple characters, acted, and jumped all over the place for almost 3 hours got some recognition.
@@putinscat1208 Agree. Lydia Tar is a manipulative narcissist; I would not waste my time + money on such an unpleasant individual. I have read comments indicating the film is bad, boring, pretentious, + overrated. (box office $17.4 M)
It really is nice that they're all nominated together and they get to experience the whole award season journey rooting for each other and celebrating the movie. No matter how it goes for them at the Oscars, I think this movie will stick around for a while and that's the biggest win (it also brought back Ke Hyu Quan, reminded everyone that Michelle and Jamie are great actresses that should be case accordingly and opened doors for Stephanie as well, so big wins all around for them)
It should have been a mess. It was too many things going on "all at once." It should have been the kind of movie where we talk about how the directors have a lot of potential with some great ideas, but they might need an editor, and maybe... just maybe, they'll actually put out something solid and coherent in a few years, but nope... fuck'n perfect. I'm still in disbelief about how all the ideas, the cast, the art, the narrative, it all came together so cohesively and perfectly, and my fuck'n god, so much heart too. This movie isn't everyone's cup of tea, when I was watching it, I had to take a break a few times as it was bizarre and chaotic, but for the movie critics I understand why they chose this movie to be the winner, as this movie is multi genre, it's science fiction fantasy, comedy, drama, martial arts.If you know Oscar, you know they will never choose a movie which is blockbuster, or superhero movies, they usually choose an independent movie. And they seek originality above everything. It's definitely one of the kind.
Making short films and commercials is boot camp. You have a smaller window of time to grab the viewers’ attention and give your message. Making a 30-second PSA was a two-year process for me from initial idea to funding to focus groups to script ideas to production to final product.
