Every week can't wait to watch your guys next video installment. A new build and the time and effort gone into making such a detailed video. Plus a big thing about you guys is that you don't sound like the usual youtubers with there annoying standard commentary.
We just want to give you guys some cool builds with videos centered around the work! We're so stoked you like the videos. Your support really means a lot to us here at the shop!
I like seeing the plumb bob and all the precise fitting, not always the norm on youtube. Look forward to seeing how you get the steering shaft past the hoop on drivers side. Great video.
PRO TIP: When I cut my rods, I set up my ends with only 1/3 thread showing. The reason is this: I am OK with turning the rods in so only 1 thread is showing, but I am not OK with turning the rods out with only 1 thread engaging. I consider the last 1/3 of the threads to be ESSENTIAL and so only 2/3 of the threads are used for adjusting the bar length. Good luck with the build.
That is really good advice for someone not familiar with heim joints. I've found that the initial setup is usually fairly decent. After measuring multiple times, have the pinion angle relatively close. I generally to get each component as close as possible before cutting and welding link bars. Tape measures are your friend. In my case, it's more of a love hate relationship.
Nice build with all the right parts those one ton axles and the four link suspension upgrade’s definitely bring it update. With that supercharged LS4 upgrade that thing should scoot.
you guys gonna brace the frame for the steering box the frame cracks if you dont especially when you run big tires. Offroaddesign sells the brace kit and the fish plate kit to fix that problem
@@SalvagetoSavage well I’m going to be watching closely, because that’s my plan for the Pontiac Safari Wagon 🤪 I built on my channel too. Love your work! Keep it up.
I plan on putting an lt4 in my 75 camaro, can't wait to see this, I hope you show all the nitty gritty details on putting this thing in. A lot of people skip over stuff
I really enjoy your channel! I have an 82 full size square body, and I remember that there was a weak area in the frame just past the firewalls heading towards the motor... so might suggest plating the inside of the frame especially now that you have the fox coil over hoops that will add torsional flex on the frame and maybe a shock tower bar that bolts shock tower to shock tower so that stress is shared with the other frame rail.... Just my .02 $ I'm really excited about this build.
Looks great ... But you need to box in the frame. The leverage of the four link combined with the added weight of the big Tires and suspension will rip the frame apart. Those frames are prone to crack around the steering box with stock setup.
I will concur with Gary on this. I have loads of experience with these lifted square bodies. The frames are definitely a weak link and need that extra reinforcement.
that's actually the first thing we set before dropping the chassis down on the axel! It just didn't fit into the timeline of the video! But we have our pinion angle set and this front axel is all ready for it's final welds!
sweet a full modern C10 ! oh i so wanted to do this to my ol 79 but the frame cracked behind the cab when i helped someone keep their car from sinking in a houston bayou while they got themselves and their stuff out in a huge storm .. i still have the 79 toyota hylux federal i traded for her the street engine i built went into a drag boat
I’m concerned with the fact that the trac bar was measured at full bump. That means the axle will not be centered at ride height and even more so at full droop. Trac bar length should be determined at ride height so there is equal amounts of movement during suspension cycling.
You wouldn't use a wrench to adjust the actual bar. You'd use it to loosen the nut locking it in place, then spin the bar by hand from the center to make your adjustment
Sweet project guys. Friendly suggestion; it would be awesome if you would break down and total up parts cost featured in each episode, then total it all up at the end. Everything today for example was serious cash. Inquiring minds would like to know and we already know this stuff is very expensive so I don't think it will scare anyone, viewer or potential shop client, if you tell us how much. Thanks though. I have a similar build in the works for my 84 GMC K5 Jimmy 4x4 and planning on going with the same ORD lift
If I was the customer I would have went with a VW V10 TDI engine with a manual trans and AWD. I would also not bother with the fancy lift kit and went with old school leaf springs which are much stronger.
I bought gunniwheels to install on my 'summer' car ,it will spend all winter until April at the end the ski season in my garage ,rather than leaving it with its wheels & tires on , slowly degrading just by sitting still for so long...(especially Pilot sport cup tires) seems that they don't like to seat around for too long...
Sweet build, but I am curious about the link setup as it seemed to me that your links are too close vertically on the axle, everything I have seen for parallel 4 links and 3 links is you want 1/4 of the tire size between (so 10 inch minimum of separation for a 40 inch tire) this has been the word in the off-road jeep world where I am from, I also don’t know what size tires is planned for the build. Not saying you guys are wrong I just noticed it and it made me think, after all you are the pros and it is one badass build.
the drag link should of been tacked at ride height. by setting at full travel, the suspension will dog track down the road as the link set up from ORD makes a "C" travel up and down.
For a person just starting out into ls swaps. What setup is suggested? I don’t need anything crazy fast but I do want power and to have fun. I’m doing this for a Chevy c10 still deciding on what setup to do as far as a drivetrain or at least motor and transmission
A lot of our builds use LS3's. They're pretty stout motors even when stock. They're pretty easy to find too, whether you're trying to find a stock pull-out motor, or jumping right into a built crate engine set up.

The upper links include an offset bend to realign to the attachment points on the axle.
We fabricated everything based off of the highest and lowest points of suspension travel so we know we won't overextend our shocks or blow them out slamming them too low. We'll be able to adjust the ride height slightly by adjusting our coil overs, but we're trusting in the lift manufacturers guidelines for most of the ride height. Since we're following the shock angles and tube positions they've laid out, we're pretty certain it will give us the right amount of lift!
Ballpark about how much it costs for you guys to build a suspension like this for a truck? I would love to have you guys build one for my 78 just like this front and rear.
Y’all have any good leads on a new dash for an 89 k1500? That’s the only thing holding me from starting more me or investing any more money. I was thinking to do just a custom stainless weld in like you see in rat rods but I’d love the stocker unit.

the distance between the long parallel links at the front is so small, I'd be afraid that the stress on the rose joints will be enormous...
This may be a dumb question, but how do you figure out what the ride height is prior to letting the weight of the vehicle down to load the suspension?
We fabricated everything based off of the highest and lowest points of suspension travel so we know we won't overextend our shocks or blow them out slamming them too low.
