Restoration Of An Incredible Old Fruit Peeler
- Complete restoration of an incredible, very rusty fruit peeler. We started by disassembling the peeler using WD40 and a torch to get the parts loose, then we used the sandblast, application of rust protection, painting and polishing of the metal parts, making the crank handle ,. Followed by the assembly and lubrication of the parts. I chose not to replace any of the pieces and keep their marks of time and originality. Hope you like it. 😊

Parabéns, paciência heróica! Ficou muito bom!
Great
Ficou muito show, amigo. Parabéns!
Muito obrigado, amigo!
You know what's funny. I thought this is an old bicycle wheel truing stand.
and then he uses it on the one type of fruit no one would ever want to peel like that 😂
It would be useful in making marmalade or something
Quite. Peeling an apple would’ve been a better test!
Its a fast way to get zest I suppose
agreed lol😂
Basically, a nice job. A few things to consider: Don’t use WD-40 on a anything being used near fruits and vegetables. Since this is a fruit/vegetable peeler, I would have gone with with a different color....say red, green, yellow, or some color more food related. Also, since you didn’t make much of an attempt to smooth out the surface of the metal. (Still looked mighty pitted to me!), I might have gone with a Hammerite paint
which works well and looks well on
pitted surfaces. Otherwise, looks nice.
When you use a screw diver that’s not he correct size for the screw slot I cringe !
Great work the old fruit peeler is beautiful it works of art well done and nice channel
Thank you very much, friend!
Thank you for posting this great video!
Just one thought: maybe WD-40 is not optimal for lubricating anything related to food products?
WD-40 is not a lubricant, period; it's a water-displacing rust dissolver used to free up stuck equipment. Actual lubricant should be used such as a food grade grease or oil.
I know right. Reminded me of when my grandfather would clean a frying pan with a SOS steel wool pad. But then failed to repeat the washing process with regular dish soap. Yuck
I love the smell of WD-40 in the morning😁 Don't like the taste of it though.
Me gustó mucho !!! Muy bueno !!!
¡Muchas gracias!
For food items i just use olive oil as lube instead of wd 40
Great job mate, It never fails to amaze me the way these old items literally come back from the dead to almost as new as the day they were first bought, What amazes me more though (and not in a good way) is that most people would throw these items away as they would be deemed "old and rusted" so glad people like yourself are keeping the old skills alive and saving these fantastic old items from certain death and lets be honest here these old tools are far superior to the modern shit of our throwaway society (even in a rusted state they would probably function better than some modern hunk of junk) keep up the good work .
My mechanic would have done it better
Why did you brush on chocolate milk?
Did you ever notice that picture just need a few touches and bit is a Salvatore Dali lanscape.
Great looking gadget, well done.
Thank you very much, friend!
OMG, get yourself a proper set of screwdrivers! And WD40 is not a lubricant.
What won’t they think of next
Pre-prepared prior to disassembly?
WD40 não é óleo lubrificante cabeçudo!
when dealing with a streight notch screw, it is very important to use the right size screwdriver...not a small one for a big notch..just saying
Me: old rusted things cost millions to me

I've never had that kind of luck with WD-40 as a penetrating lube. Cool restoration though. Can you share some info about your painting setup? I thought you were powder coating at first.
what a terrible end result, it looked better before you touched it, leaving the metal all pock-marked, you clearly have no idea what you are doing
Which WD-40 is that that you are using? Because ive never seen it spray that good before.
I think you found the exact max size job for that Dremel tool; any bigger and you would have had to move up to the angle grinder!
I notice that you quit often use the wrong size screwdriver. It does make a difference.
resto job was good but the curved guide bracket , you could have made a new one or used filler to look better, it was lookin pathetic
Sometimes it's better not to make machine for the work, which can be done easily by hands .
The whole thing is so rusty, but the springs work like in day one and aint broken? Weirf
Darn evil screws... lol. They take no prisoners, lol
Your restoration is so good but the way you paint those things is awful to be honest
Great job, but not so sure I would've used WD40 on a tool handling food ✌️
Probably isn’t planning on using it for food; just for decor.
I cringe when people sandblast parts and then don’t treat them straight away. They flash-rust.

Must have cost a lot like 2 dollars, back in the days.
looks great but made me sick - need to lock your focus
Parabéns!! Maravilhosa restauração!!!
WD-40? Really?

Angle grinder is more affective than a rotery tool
For me, having music in your tool restoration video kills the entire thing. The video was okay otherwise and the restoration was superb.
Could also just use a lathe 🤣
2 minutes in and I'm think hmmm "really old" yet those screws seem a little too shiny also it seems to dismantle a little too easy. Dont think this is as old as made out or already dismantled to save time either way not impressed.
Probably work better on an apple or some fruit like that. Never seen an orange peeler before...
insert Body filler
I don't care what other folks say about your choice of fruits; that's a darn good zester you've got there. All rind, no white pith. Good job!
Thank you very much!
Shoow!
Sim, sou brasileiro!
@@restorediy Fantástico! Parabéns pela qualidade! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
wow very good

As I had seen in your corn stripper restoration video, and in this one - you hadn’t turned the extractor fan on in your spray painting area? But I have looked at the spray painting parts in your other restoration videos and your use of that fan is intermittent - with you turning it on for; rattle can spraying, with the air spray gun, but not sure if to use it when powder paint coating, as far as I am concerned 😟 = you should always have the fan on, despite what method your using to spray paint the things in front of it. Most of these spray painting things tell you to adequately ventilate the room your doing it in (or even better - do it outside) - and using that fan is like doing it outside 😉. It is called a direct point of extraction - the aerosols/particles your making are being drawn into the fan and blown outside. Also if you are wearing a mask/respirator - they won’t get clogged quickly and need replacement less often and won’t need to be worn for a long period of time after spraying. And you will need to have makeup/replacement air for the fan, by opening a door/window/a vent in your workshop, and if it is very windy outside, and you see the fan being spun by it (positive air displacement) if a particular window/door is open = then you won’t need to turn it on as the wind is blowing in to it 😀
one tip: audio normalization, especially the hammering part was hard to watch, had to skip.
Great job.
FOCUS!
Greasing dreams :)
My grandmother Gotham had that model she would make the best apple pies always scratch made, breads, pies, donuts everything grandma made was scratch using lard. God keep her safe and warm I miss her so much hope I get the chance to see her again.
I'd appreciate it if you try to make the object work before disassembling it. It shows better what your real work was. Thanks.
Great work bro keep it up 😍😍😍😍😍👍👍👍
Thank you very much, friend!
And I thought I was clever using WD-40 on the garden gate hinges.
WD-40 is a solvent, not a lubricant.
@@lakerfan82k3 It does work on garden gate hinges, yes? No squeak and moves easily.
Ya gotta love things with gears; a lot of gears.
There was an old TV show back in the '50s called "I've Got A Secret". One year a guy came on who made a "Do-Nothing" machine. Its dimensions were about 3'x3'x3', and it was made up of gears, just a lot of gears and connecting rods.
When he finally turned it on all the gears and rods began working on each other, but that was it.
Pretty neat to see. Ya gotta make one.
It's a complicated piece of equipment and the only difference between it and my grandmother's [now mine] is that this makes a very narrow peel. Very interesting to watch the restoration tho.
I miss my dad’s kitchen gadgets.
I miss Little Debbie pecan pies.
Well, let's see...music or dogs barking? I think i prefer the music.
What a hack job. Why bother.
Beau projet, excellent travail, belles images, félicitation....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
😢
You can do better
A superb job of restoring the fruit peeler, and it works. Good work.
Tell me you didn't assemble that tool completely dry..
Nice Work
Thank you very much!
you must use other lubricants instead of wd40
This was hella dope!!!
Great restoration! Keep it up
Thank you very much, friend!
Good video and mesmerising to watch that Orange peel fly.
Nice job, but get some new screwdrivers! :)
