- Travel day 18 on our New York to Cape Coral Florida intracoastal waterway boat trip on our 2006 341 Meridian sport bridge. In this episode we attempt to avoid the shallow winding waters of Georgia and brave the Atlantic Ocean. Our day starts out Monday but as the daylight ticks away, the seas get rough and our tiny ship was tossed.
Will we make it to Florida today?
Great job Capt. Loving this series of videos.
The captain is doing a splendid job of keeping his audience aware of his travels. He also seems extremely knowledgeable of navigation. I believe he keeps his audience very interested in all aspects of boating. Mr. Gerald P. Rothman Captian
Thanks Captain!
You’re are blessed man to be able to live the dream many of us have. I bought my 40’ Searay 20 years ago with a dream to do a similar adventure. Life had other plans when I had to shut it down for multiple surgeries. I still have the boat and just enjoy it for short cruises. I’ve really enjoyed watching your adventure. Thanks for posting
On our last ICW trip, we were never able to go offshore, weather was not favorable. Your situations of low water in SC and GA were also ours, we were in a 36' sailboat with a 5' draft. Thankfully... we only had to call SEATOW twice on our 51 day trip from Galesville, MD on the Chesapeake to Jacksonville, FL and back to Galesville. That was our "Dream Trip"! One of those SEATOW times was just north of Charlotte. Back then we were using paper charts and watching the depth meter like a hawk. Because of the paper charts, southbound everything was upside down. After we reached Jacksonville, FL we headed back north. Wow, what fun to see the chart with north at the top! I've really been enjoying watching your trip. We felt fortunate to make 40 SM in a day, as we only had a single Volvo 62 hp diesel inboard. Fuel was about .90 per gallon, marina price! Excellent videos and narration, thanks! Be well, be safe!
God! The "stats" you show on your tablet make me love my "old" 1985 -189 Cobia Bowrider, even more (sold since). My fortune "dried-up", but I'm glad yours hasn't. EXCELLENT VIDEO MY FRIEND!!!
I really enjoyed this . Thank you SIR!
i live in the amelia island area, that "factory" is a big saw mill called Rayonier, and that fort does tours and history exhibits, the host even dresses in 1800s military attire and ive fished right on those banks right near the outside walls, lots of reds in there
I've always been a bit scared when I see the Ocean but I think I would have been terrified being as far out into as you were. Give me my Kayak on the river up in the mountains any day. 😉
谢谢你的视频!身处其中的感觉!👍🍾️
Nice view I use to work in Amelia Island and Ortega Yath Club in Jacksonville FL the people are nice tanks for the video 📹.
Looks like a whole hell of a lot of fun🎉🎉🎉
thumbs up from Lake George, NY !! * sure hope you had a fishin' pole in your hand while sippin' a cold beverage an watchin' that sunset...looked perfect fo fishin' !!
Thank you for posting all of these videos. You have given my wife and I more hope that, we too, can do this. So sorry about your boat and hope you recover quickly.
A little better every day. Take small steps forward and enjoy each and every accomplishment.
Congrats on reaching Florida. Long day but you avoided lots of winding creeks in Georgia by doing it.
So good to see the boat on the water again -- I know it all took place before Ian, but it's still good to see. I'm sure you'll get Happy Ours back in and fixed up soon.
Beaufort sc my home town bro safe travels
Very nice and low key for a NY/NJ guy. Like it a lot (currently from NJ).
Thanks for posting Captain. Appreciate the effort on keeping us updated on your adventure down the icw..Taking her in ocean was certainly the big leagues.
congrats. I hope one day I have the ability and opportunity to do this.
You bring the reality of a long trip in a boat to light! Man my eyes felt swollen and red just like Id been out on the ocean with you. Cheers mate!
Long-day solos during an extended trip are much tougher than most think! And then, when you get in, all the chores and checks await, and then plans for the next day must be completed.
I'd call that day a success. A long day, but still a success.
Enjoy your vids, Happy Ours....excellent. Been interested in traveling the ICW for years.....very inspiring and helpful. Thanks!
It’s a fun trip. You don’t need a big boat or lots of money. Just time.
A good overview of boat repairs and a good vdeo . Very lucky that the hurricane spared your boat. Good luck on your travels.
Binge watching and loins every step🫶🏼
at your 8 minute mark, you mentioned RPMs, speed and GPH....etc. That's just about exactly what I get with my 341NSB 6.2's
So sorry about your boat. You made some good memories.:)
She’s not dead yet. And if she is. We’ll have another Happy Ours!
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs exactly!
He fixed the boat up perfect after that huge hurricane
Our same track.. so glad you didn't do the Sapelo sound inlet. We have done it once very successfully and once not so much!! Bridget would have loved that part of the journey. ❤️
Hey guys! Thanks for watching! We catch up with Brigitt in a couple episodes in Fort Pierce.
Awesome trip captain
Florida is the place to be. Even with hurricanes.
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs that's the spirit cap😉👍👍⚓️🛥
They have 2 large kraft paper plants there the marina downtown is nice dock there next time and walk to restaurants
Have you thought of changing the final drive ratio to improve consumption? 3500rpm on those Cats is almost out of the power band. I don't know your boat but those Cats make most of its torque at 1800. What do you think? Seems to me, changing the final drive ratio which is currently close to 1:1 would improve your range I would think. You would need to fiddle with pitch but calculators are everywhere
Unfortunately I don’t have diesels. I have twin 6.2 mercs. Lol
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs
Understood.
Like everyone of the videos
nice job
My son is the general manager at Bohicket Marina in Charleston
Appreciate u sharing this difficult thing. I’m from Buffalo NY , in oriental NC now headed south. …. Man, dropping that hook feels good doesn’t it? …. And yes everything I say I want to add “knock on wood”
Taking boat down? Such a rewarding journey. So glad I did it!
Now this is a dark question, but I have to ask. Are there man overboard systems when one is solo on a boat? I imagine if money is no object, you could have a fob on your wrist and the boat will stop and come back and have a mixed cocktail ready for you, but otherwise, are there personal protocols in place? Zero judgement here, just fascination and interest. :)
There are man overboard systems you can have installed but we don’t have any. It’s always in the back of my mind when solo worrying about falling overboard. I am extra careful during those rare times. An ugly detail is I kept a bucket up at the helm so I could relieve myself without going downstairs or near the gunnels.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 if not shure on this, maby not fitted as captain 😂😂😂😂
Take easy license and you all get it safe for you and all around you
🎉🎉🎉🎉 it is an hell of a good life🎉🎉🎉🎉
But for shure NOT FITTED FOR EVERYONE
Need a seakeeper 😁
Great video. Is that spreadsheet available anywhere? Are you tracking your gph/mpg with floscans. Hope you were able to get your boat back in the water.
I created the spreadsheet with google sheets. Just added to it as I went along and I put some formulas in to make the math easier.
I used the Mercruiser smartcraft gauges.
did you take fur baby with you?
Not on this trip. You’ll see Matey on future boat trips however. He loves the boat!
No auto pilot? Nice boat.
Yes I have autopilot. Used it very often.
Shoulda got the DEEZULS!
Ep 19 kind of made me a little sea sick 😷
I wouldn’t do that ocean leg alone
At least I was still in radio and cell contact. Over by the Everglades, you have no radio contact.
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs enjoy watching thanks
hard to hear you over the wind noise at times
Yes I haven’t tackled that issue yet.
$1000 for a day of fuel. Ouch!
It was a long day!
It's pronounced Sapp ellow Sapelo Island Ga.
Pretty sure the whole ocean is an anchorage lol
Same boat traveled all over the Chesapeake Bay up and down the Pentecostal 3500 RPM once it's sweet spot
This is better use the girl
copious amount of fuel, Haha !
Unexpected is easy to see 😂😂😂😂
My kids are newbys as well at age of 10 12 years. But them at least understand an have real respect for others and have little more knowledge 🎉🎉🎉🎉
All newbyes is like this first 3 4 years 😂😂😂
So easy to see
Remember a real captain are a real boaters 😂😂😂😂
Learning whit year, maby maby
Learn to read electronic map, you need for shure !!!!!!!
Not safe to stay in same area for now newby.
But some years more and license and license for icw then it will help you and other around you
That boat is slow as shit. My 27 foot sea ray with a single big block runs 30 and 33 hundred rpm
And yours probably weighs 11k. I’m twice that. It’s not a speed boat.
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs fair. Be safe out there
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs how much u weight I'm only 9500
