I used to live in this part of Florida too. I lived in the Eau Gallie section of Melbourne and worked at offices in Cocoa and Melbourne. It's a beautiful area. Unfortunately the Indian River, Banana River, Mosquito River estuary is not in very good shape these days ecologically wise. Too much run off from yard chemicals, oil and gasoline from roadways and other "non-point" source pollution has done great harm to the sea grasses and other things. Fishing is not what it once was and at times you can get nasty algae blooms. Such a shame. Enjoy your summer back up north. There has been a movement going on for at least twenty or so years to make it hard for boaters to do things like anchor off and bring their Dingy's to shore. It's when they started building all those multi-million dollar mansions and condos all over the place. At one time it was almost like a war of sorts between cruising boaters and owners of those fancy properties. It didn't matter if you had a nice yacht or a boat like yours that was to those people, a "junker." They weren't gonna have boats fouling up their million dollar views. City councils and county commissioners went along with the dictates of the wealthy by doing things like getting rid of many places that had been very popular anchoring sites for many decades once an area got developed and became an enclave for the rich. Money talks, ya know?
I fish Titusville at school fprofession. Then walk around i'm looking. There is a good restaurant there called dixie crossroads. New Symera is the place to visit.
What is your hull? It's not a pontoon like I thought, but rather a skiff type boat I guess. What is the length and width, if you don't mind? How do you go about finding a used/new "shanty boat" base? Looking to build my own after watching your great videos!

I just ignore the signs and go ashore take care of business as quick as I can and get back on my dinghy and go back to my boat. The response time of local constabulary is so poor by the time people call and the cops come I'm already done and gone. BTW The Cop has to catch you in the act or have proof that you violated the law such as a video with time stamps and witness testimony to write the ticket. It is the only way to deal with these kinds of laws!
TBT copper base paints for boat hulls are banned in California, Oregon, Washington State and Alaska, this is for pleasure boats up to 65 feet long, for some strange reason all commercial boats are exempt from this ban, TBT copper based paints are banned in all Europe, including the U.K., Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands. Several countries that won't let you enter if your boat has a TBT Copper paint on the hull, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Holland....
@@scable-eq7bp probably because they want all the copper for themselves for other reasons. (electronics, etc) They have to control everything, you know. There's supposedly a copper shortage...can't let the little guys have any of it.
@@TheSwissChalet I think it has more to do with keeping their water supply safe and keeping a healthy aquatic ecosystem in place. Commercial fishing is a huge industry in the countries mentioned. Those countries mentioned use reverse osmosis plants all up and down their coastlines. They supply 65% of the fresh water used in those countries...
@@scable-eq7bp then why aren't commercial boats, the biggest ones that would have the most impact (BY FAR) , allowed to have it, no problem? It's like banning plastic straws...then handing out free plastic syringes. I don't expect a reasonable answer to that question...it doesn't exist.

A man lives in his shanty boat
Flows on the loop
Living life so freely
With God on his side
And his first mate his beagle
What a life he's got
Does the best he can
Life on the water oh such a dream
God has blessed him it seems
Living life so grand
With beagle and God's hand
Makes it look so easy
Floating down the stream
Sunset in his eyes
Living in a dream
Every morning a sunrise
Every night under stars
With his little boat
He goes oh so far
[Chorus]
Life on the water oh such a dream
God has blessed him it seems
Living life so grand
With beagle and God's hand

Draft is the depth of the boat below the waterline. A boat with a two foot draft DRAWS two feet of water. Some folks might consider my correction to be shallow and unimportant but every time the error is made, I have the same sensation in my gut as when I go aground
I see. Well, mine is approx 10 inches
@@backwatersandbackroadsYes, YOUR BOAT DRAWS 10" It doesn't draft 10". Or are you bragging?
@@fredbrillo1849 I see now. Yes, those are different. Bragging? Not really, I mention it to make the point that many of the nest places are shallow to get to. Shanty boats tend to draft/draw very little and thus get to said spots

Any thoughts on maybe mapping your journey as you go along with each video showing your progress so we can have a better understanding of your progress and your journey?
Also, any thoughts of ever making a video of what equipment you recommend to have with on your boat for your journey? Must haves, highly recommended, etc..
Appreciate you and Godspeed
I hope to do a wrap up video when finished with this leg of the episodes
@michaelgarrity6090 this I'd one of the best explanations I've heard about this. Thank you.
Some would say, that is why they made war on the skeeters(Tourist and Snowbird Repellent).

What was the reason he told you not to anchor there, at 4:25?
He said the anchors don't hold well. He very well might have not wanted neighbors. One Navionics review talked about him too
@@backwatersandbackroads Ok, I see! Just wondered.

Speaking of electrolytes….what’s the story of copper bottom paint on a aluminum hull ?
@@williamshelton9688 I wish I knew more about that
TBT copper base paints for boat hulls are banned in California, Oregon, Washington State and Alaska, this is for pleasure boats up to 65 feet long, for some strange reason all commercial boats are exempt from this ban, TBT copper based paints are banned in all Europe, including the U.K., Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands.
