    This process will work for most V Drive boats and even some inboard ski boats. Comment if you have any tips and tricks for me! This took about 45 mins. and cost me $60. Thanks for watching.

    The single most helpful video I have found yet on oil changes for these boats. Thanks for going the extra mile showing the suction method for those of us stuck in a lift over the water!

    Great video. Every detail is covered. This will help a lot of new boat owners that want to do their own maintenance.

    Thanks for the video! Really helped as this was the first year I decided to service my 03 VLX myself rather than at the dealer

    Really appreciate your help on these videos buddy. I just purchased an 01 Sunsetter VLX. Just switched out the steering cable which didn’t end up being too bad & referenced your video for the Transmission oil & fluid. Going to change the oil now for the motor. Your videos have been great. Going to probably pursuer a few of your other recommendations as well.
    Thanks again! Huge help! More videos would continue to help us new guys become more aquatinted with our boats. Going to gut the inside & redo all upholstery and thinking of adding Gator Step or SeaDeck or something along those lines 🤙🏼

      Good to hear! I've done that steering cable. I few swear words but not too bad. Saved a ton of money over a shop. Join our malibu and axis wakeboard group page on FB for my help!

    Best Malibu video I found. Well done. Are you going to post something about winterizing your boat? I have 2002 Malibu and live in Canada. Would love to see how you do it

    Thanks for the video, we have a very similar boat. I too have the easy drain hose that will make this process very easy.

    Great video. Can you do a step by step winterization video as well? That would be very helpful.

    Good video but don't forget to mention that the angle of the boat on the trailer can alter your dip stick reading when refilling. Wouldnt want somebody to overfill based on a simple mistake.

      Kelly Crain thanks for that tip. At what angle should the boat be to be 100% sure on the oil level? Floating on water?

      Bernard Fonseca when I bought my boat I asked the service tech at the dealer and he said that the manufacturer designed it to be checked while floating in the water. But i would ask your local service shop. I'm just your average Joe that does my maintenance to save a little cash...

    Re the comment at bottom about some dipstick tubes don't go to the bottom of the oil pan, I just bought an 08 VTX Wakesetter with the 340 Monsoon and the local dealer told me on my engine the dipstick tube does *not* go to the bottom, so I can't just affix a hose to the top of the dipstick; I will have to insert the long skinny tube from the oil pump down in. He said just be careful not to jam it in, some people get it stuck in the crankshaft. To save time I plan to use that method to get the majority of the oil out, then use the built-in drain hose to get the remaining oil out. (After running engine on F-a-L to bring oil to temp.)

      Good advice. I am getting a few reports of stuck tube in the oil level tuve by users on our FB page. I have never had that problem but some have. I just did my oil last night. Ran engine for 10 mins on a hose. Put a bucket under boat, dropped drain hose through drain plug port, let it drain for 1 hr. Worked great. Then pour used oil into containers and wipe bucket dry with paper towels.

      @@fixitwithjake Thanks for the info on how long it took to drain. I think I'm going to play it safe when I do mine tomorrow, and just drain it out the hose, if it doesn't take more than an hour or two with hot oil. Cheers and thanks for a very good video.

      @fixitwithjake  3 года назад

      @@GaryMeehanCanada it is good you are planning ahead. Cold it takes 24 hrs. With the oil hot and a warm day it drained in 30 mins or less with a hose and bucket. If you do the container method in the video you have to monitor it and change the container at least once. I like to do the bucket now and open it and forget it until I come back.

      @@fixitwithjake Thanks, Jake. Well, I just did .... errrr... make that started my oil change yesterday. Got the engine to 180F and started draining the oil with the drain hose out the T-handle drain plug hole beside the V-drive/transmission. After 2 hours I had 2 liters, after 5 hours I had 4 liters. I decided to let it drain overnight because I want to get as close to 5L out as possible. I got just a few ounces more, overnight outdoor temperature was about 50F. I think you, or someone else said, it's a good idea to measure what you get out so 1. you know how close to a complete change you're going to do, and 2. helps you know what to put back in to help avoid adding too much.

    How long does the process take with the pump?

    • @fixitwithjake
      @fixitwithjake  2 месяца назад +1

      If the engines warmed up and the oil is hot, maybe 10 mins of sucking. It’s a skinny tube and a good amount of oil.

  • @SkypowerwithKarl
    @SkypowerwithKarl 4 года назад +1

    I pre fill the oil filler when I can. Just that much less time the engine runs without oil. For those that don’t have the “easy drain”, those vacuum oil devices are great, much better than the pump kind. For any to work well the oil should be warm to hot unless you have hours instead of minutes to waste. Some dipstick tubes on boats go to the bottom of the pan so you don’t need to tube into it, just adapt to the top. You’re manual should tell you.
