    Thank you so much. This might be the only video that shows how to start an inboard v drive boat out of the water without a fake lake. If you added that in description I think the views would go way up!

      Excellent point. I'll look at updating

    Perfect timing! Doing mine today and I’ve seen videos but nothing fit exactly like my boat… same setup. Thanks again!

    I picked up my Calabria over the weekend and the forecast updated this morning to a freeze mid week and I can't get it in my garage at the moment - this clip saved me!

      Excellent choice of boat. Good hull for making exceptional waves

      @@GearsAndTech the hose into the v drive is hard to get off!

    • @GearsAndTech
      @GearsAndTech  2 года назад +1

      Yes. It requires a lot of wiggling and pulling and twisting.
      Especially if it hasn't been off in a while.

      I used a 1" hose and heated the end of it with a heat gun. I was able to slip it directly onto the port where the hose attached to the vdrive. My hose would not come off of the fitting at the floor so this was much easier

    Thanks for the video. Good info. One recommendation, why not just get another piece of hose to attach to your v drive so you don’t have to keep disconnecting it at the through hole. If your headed to get the hose and fittings for the suction hose might as well get an extra pice of black hose while your at it.

      I agree, I actually plan to get one of these amzn.to/3YDCslP
      I had a boat with one years ago and it made everything so much easier.

    Appreciate the video! Getting ready to do my first winterization on my first boat I’ve ever owned. I will store the boat in my RV garage over the winter. With that said, I assume I follow this same process for my 2009 MB B52 with the PCM ZR409 motor? I’m a newbie just trying to learn this stuff and I like doing it myself. Thanks again for the video.

      Yes. This works for any boat
      Just make sure your ballast are full and left open as well.

    Why? Why? Lol.
    Instead of pouring antifreeze into the empty bucket, why not simply put the hose into the antifreeze container?????
    😂😂😂😂

    • @GearsAndTech
      @GearsAndTech  Год назад

      That would work too I guess. But I don't want it to run dry. It takes at least a few runs of the pink stuff to be fully flushed, so I found it easier using the bucket

    I have a similar boat with a heater but I am still unclear on how to winterize the heater system. Any advice/comments would be appreciated. Very helpful video. Thank you.

      You can undo the heater hoses and dump coolant in them
      Or just rev the engine to 2000 rpm and it'll circulate it through.

    @gears and tech do you stabilize the fuel? Or do you fog the motor since you store it outside?

  • @shonn9651

    Where exactly do the heater core lines connect?

    • @GearsAndTech
      @GearsAndTech  Год назад

      It's different on every boat. You just have to follow it back and look.

    Do you not recommend pulling the knock sensors and exhaust plugs after warming up the motor? I did it that way last year but was kinda worried I let it sit too long before putting the antifreeze in and the thermostat wouldn’t be open. Your way seems way easier and more simple.

    • @Rubenchavez87
      @Rubenchavez87 Год назад

      Will the antifreeze for sure make it into my block and exhaust manifolds before being pushed out the exhaust?

    • @GearsAndTech
      @GearsAndTech  Год назад +1

      As long as you run it up with water first until the engine is at operating temp then it is perfect to do it this way.
      I tried dumping coolant through hoses and stuff one year and it was a stressful winter.

    • @Rubenchavez87
      @Rubenchavez87 Год назад

      Yeah I did it your way this year. I feel good about it. Way easier this way. I made sure to warm it up for about 20 mins. Our boat stays in our barn covered up so I’m sure it will be fine.

      My boat has a battery switch to turn off all power to the batteries. Do you think that’s fine leave it hooked up as long as it’s in the opposition and fully charged? Lastly after you run antifreeze through do you drain the block and manifolds to confirm everything looks good in terms of antifreeze coming out? Thanks great video

    • @GearsAndTech
      @GearsAndTech  Год назад

      I don't drain it. These are self draining blocks. By the time I drive from my driveway to the storage location it's mostly empty anyway.
      I disconnect the batteries anyway. There is usually a constant power wore connected up with has a draw through winter. I don't take any chances with that. Just unhook it and be certain.

    Do you do anything with the impeller?

    • @GearsAndTech
      @GearsAndTech  11 месяцев назад

      No, all my service work is done at start of season.
      So I get a fresh oil change and think about the impeller. Most guys do impeller every 2 years. The impeller on this boat is hard to get to, so I did it this season after 3 years and it was still in great shape

  • @giff427dg

    Take the thermostats out done

    • @GearsAndTech
      @GearsAndTech  Год назад +1

      I try my best to leave something thats fine alone. Taking out the stat makes you more prone to having a leak in the future. If its not broken dont fix it.

    • @turbolab2376
      @turbolab2376 8 месяцев назад

      I’ve never owned a direct drive or v drive but in the I/o boats the thermostat opens to let the water flow out the exhaust. There is a small bypass hole that lets some water go out the exhaust before the thermostat opens so it stays cool. No need to let warm up or pull thermostats the antifreeze will flow around the block till warmed up then a larger volume will go out the exhaust. Let it run 5 min and your gtg. It you don’t want to wait pull the block drains let it drain then reinstall then put the antifreeze in that way there is no dilution and no need for it to be warm.
