The first part will be about the early years of their career all the way up until 2010. Me and my partner on this video have talked about doing a video on The Neptunes for a while to give them their flowers and we finally decided to go ahead and make this documentary for you guys.

Thank you for the collab on this Dre, they not ready!
Did a great job bro💪
Yea you did really great
What is the instrumental @ 12:30 point in the video ? Is it the unreleased JT collab w/ Pharrell called ‘second chance’ ??
whats the instrumental at 8:23?
@@traill8040 N*E*R*D - Tape You (UK Version - Electronic )
I knew chad was a genius when Snoop said he was the one that put that last keyboard part on the hook of Drop it like it's hot. The song wouldn't hit the same without it.
Virginia made the Futuristic sound and basically made Alternate Rap music. With the Clipse rapping hardcore over obtuse beats, Kelis making Alt-Pop, Even Timbaland, Missy, Lex Luger, DRAM, Teddy Riley.
The sound is boundary pushing and weird sounds with Street subjects
Chad is disgustingly underrated. The Neptunes WAS NOT Pharrell by himself.
I saw a wild stat that said in 2006 or 2005 Pharrell had produced 40% of songs on the radio for a few months. GOAT producer imo
It was The Neptunes, Pharrell and Chad in 2003
Andre Smith ya and it was in the UK not the US which is even crazier SMH 🙌🏽
I had my leg amputated due to a bad car accident in late 2001. When I got back in the groove of things in 2002 Neptune’s beats where everywhere. So many of those songs helped me normal again. To this day those songs take me back. Thank you Chad and Pharrell
If you're not a producer who grew up in the 90s and early 2000's you wont put respect on chads name. The thing i like about The neptunes is their versatility across ALL genres of music INCLUDING remixes. They were REAL remixers. they made a song so un-recognisable you had to hear the vocals to know who sang the original and made it sound better. Example, One of their best remixes SADE - by your side and Backstreet - The Call. Prince - The Greatest Romance ever sold. Even their more obscure Remixes ALL Saints - Black Coffee. and theyre still making beats for artist and still sound good. Even with their sound scaled down. That new joint they produced with SZA "Hit different" or Kendrick Lamars "Im Real" its still the neptunes sound.
Where can I find this Kendrick I’m real don’t
Wow that's my fave kendrick song
@@ThotamasPrime It’s on GKMC.
“Real” by Kendrick was produced by Terrace Martin.
Did you mean “good kid” (as that has Pharrell production and The Neptunes on additional vocals)?

This documentary is right on time, I've been revisiting the Neptunes music lately and I've come to the conclusion they were the real Avant-garde hip-hop collective of the 21st century. Over outkast , over kanye, over timbaland! The pop music landscape of 2021 bears the influence of Pharrell and Chad! Tyler the creator, the weekend, even Billie eilish wouldn't exist without The Neptunes/NERD, their music now sounds timeless and sounds almost like a hip-hop version of Brian Wilson/the beach boys sonic genius! Long live Star Trak true musical prophets🖖thanks for making this excellent documentary.
Chad has always been a BEAST! So much talent, and the swag he had was always deserved, because he was dancing to international hits he wrote.
I LEGIT had a Bape Jacket before I even knew who Souljah Boy was
Same here💯

@@Criminalmemories and ...
Didn't wayne had one on the hustler musik video?🤔
Lord Willin was a classic album
Lord Willin and Hell Hath No Fury🔥
These kids have no clue how dope malice was.
I was definitely out in the clubs in nyc in the 90’s (especially late 90’s) when the Neptunes sound was unfolding. The sound was so fresh, different and innovative that we didn’t even know how to dance to them but we knew it was 🔥
I feel so lucky to have lived that 🤗
Facts. I’m from the south and remember visiting Connecticut in ‘99. I think they were playing a DJ Clue mixtape at the skating rink and it was the first time I heard Half-A-Mil’s Thug Ones. Seems like it came out right after Nore’s huge hit Oh No. I was blown away by the sounds back then and couldn’t find Thug Ones anywhere. Soon as I saw his album in stores it was instant cop just off the strength of being in the skating rink in CT that night. I copped just about every album I could that had a Neptunes produced song on it.
7th grade it was cursed and sad but the gift within it is when I first met Chad
N.E.P....T.U.N....E.S. the way they lace the beat like one of the best
damm u know it’s gonna be good when u start off explaining how chad is so underrated 💀💀
Kelis caught out there beat blew my mind as a kid and it's still futuristic to this day.
That whole album was other worldly
@@insearchofYAH true that
Not many people know but in 1993 one of Pharrell's first credits is on SWV's song Right Here (Human Nature Remix). He's the one who chants S the double the U the V
That's said in the video
@@cloutcancun I know I said it on the trailer video but put it here where more people can see it lol
As many times as I've heard that, never knew that was him! I'm dead...
-- [SF]
They also did WHEN THIS FEELING COMES for SWV around 96 before they got hot.
Also did Use Your Heart and that stayed on the charts. Did not know it was them until years later.
The neptunes brought some of the best and memorable songs of my childhood in the early 2000s and I absolutely love Pharrell. I am glad to see that they are still collaborating with some of todays big artist❤️ Legendary.
I remember walking around campus listening to "mr. me 2", also the "#1" with Kanye made me feel fly/smooth.
"frontin" a classic, always take me back to high School. I love that we had that song, thank you P and team for making that track. It is still played everyday by someone
Chad was the real mastermind behind the sounds. Pharell was just the face
How is there no mention of Usher “U don’t have to call “ or Ludacris “ Southern Hospitality”. Literally signature records
Like I said....there is NO way we can mention and go into detail about all the records The Neptunes have done. They have done COUNTLESS records and have so many hits. I hope you realize there is still an entire part 2 that's not out yet and in part 2 we're talking about Usher and were going to mention records like "u don't have to call".
I’m a slave for you was nice.
@@cloutcancun nah but you specifically said part 1 was from the beginning to 2010, so we figured if you left out those monster tracks going year by year, that you wouldnt revisit them. Like Nelly - Flap your wings and the Missy hits. all could have been quickly mentioned in sequence by year as you did, didnt need to elaborate on them, instead you chose to elaborate on useless info like Latrelle. no one knows who Latrelle was cause she was a flop!
@@Pappizzle latrelle didnt flop. There were label issues lol
i was born in 2001 in Minnesota, so growing up, my favorite song by NERD was She Wants to Move (still is). but i recently decided to take a deep dive into the culture of the Neptunes and thus i discovered the unreleased songs from 2000-2004, and that Magnetic beat is otherworldly... i also love his r&b. I Still Love You by 702, Luv U Better by LL, Senorita by Justin, Touch by Omarion... these men are geniuses. I also gravitated towards Chad because his personality. he never really needed to be in the limelight.
I appreciate you for giving Chad his flowers, respect. Fr, fr.
I grabbed In Search Of... on the day it was released. It's one of my favorite cd's to this day. Straight Classic.
Later I would find out about this other version of the album without the Spymob assist... I died and came back to life over that version.
Personally, I made love to someone very special to me, for the very last time... with that album playing. The music played into the situation... I can't even listen to it anymore because she passed away.
Am I High 🤔
Omg! Classic fasho 🔥I LOVE that song 🎵 Am I High favorite song on the album
🖖🏻🔝💣🎹
The first version of In Search Of is the BEST.
The best producer's of my generation.. Hands down!
That was enjoyable. The first NERD album is great from start to finish. I love listening to to "Provider" on road trips and deep thinking hikes and "Tape you" in any occasion. I love the second one too, but the first is pure magic.
Run to the Sun is my go to fr
@@soul89g Oh heck yeah that might be best song on the whole album. Alway's reminds me of summer!
I’m convinced Kelis is alien, she’s from whole different planet. That Kaleidoscope album is unlike no other 🛸
Kaleidoscope and Wanderland are gems
YEZZUR 🖖🏽
Use Your Heart is my joint.
The Jordan/Pippen of hip hop producers good looking out on making this one bro
Gangsta Lean was that hidden gem from Lord Willin'
"I still love you" by 702, and "run for the sun" by n.e.r.d. are probably my 2 favorite.
Chiming in from Wilmington, NC, but grew up in va beach, graduated HS about 5 years after Chad and Pharrell. Only ever saw Pharrell once, he was at the strip driving an Acura NSX.
as someone that was alive for all of this I can say......that even I didn't know they did rump shakers.......that was a verrrrrrrry popular song that year. Give this young man his flowers.
The thing is the little things like how the public felt about certain songs isn't something that you can google. I wonder how he knows that
Thank you. THESE GUYS RANNNNNNN THE INDUSTRY BRO. SO MANY HITS
Clipse HHNF album is a classic 🔥🔥
They’re lowkey coming back tho, they just did a song with Drake & Brent Fiyas, Moneybag Yo, etc. but their sound is a little different from usual..
How did you not mention Deadmau5 dude
@@arithesheep5506 that song sucks
@@TheBasedCanadian Yeah it does but Deadmau5 is better than drake imo
@@arithesheep5506 ? If you’re talking about Pomegranate then meh🤷🏾♂️. I don’t see nothing really special about that song. It’s.. okAy imo. U should listen to Snoh Aalegra’s IN YOUR EYES👌🏾

This is making me so giddy, I can't even watch it right now! I know this sounds ridiculous, but my heart is always full when I listen to them, or watch anything regarding them because they are that good! Their contribution to modern music is absolutely unfathomable, Untouchable, and cannot be placed in any category. Ladies and gentlemen, we are looking at two of the greatest men the world has ever known in music. I'll have to come back and watch this when I've had a little wine in my system to chill me out, LOL! STAAAAAAAAR TRAAAAAAAK!
I didn’t knew Timberland and Pharrell were cousins/ GOOD video boys👏🏾

Live from new Orleans! Pharrell is a musical genius and a fashion icon dripping with swag effortlessly. Pharrell is my favorite person in the game since they first came out with NERD
I was born in 1990 and think my brain developed enough to have a musical taste around 2002, I had no idea until semi-recently that they produced SO many of my favorite radio songs!! And like who on earth would guess that the musicians behind Rock Star were the producers of U Don’t Have to Call, Nothin, Beautiful, Money Maker, Excuse Me Miss, etc etc etc ♥️ ♥️ ♥️
Somebody needs to go through parts 1 & 2 of this video and make a list of all the song productions mentioned to expose new heads to slept on music

Nah that Beautiful instrumental with the strings in the beginning was crazy
I was born in 2000 so I had to go back to stuff like this to see how amazing the duo was lol I love how they made their own sound and worked with with they had at the time . Philly in the Building peace and love to everyone
I never knew "frontin" was for prince! I can hear it too! Damnnn. Great stuff!

That song is still one of my top songs of all time. I don’t know where number wise but always gives me goosebumps !
thank you for this wonderful 1 part documentary and I can't wait for the 2nd part!!!
People forget about Kenna he was amazing.. "Make sure they see my face" is a highly slept on album Neptunes produced.
My old rap partner used to date a girl named Natasha Ramos. She has a song written and produced by Pharrell called “Midnight hour”. The studio session is on youtube.🔥
I used to watch that studio video back to back years ago I think they used it for another artist tho and it sounds different...the video version is hard tho
@@djknobodi yea a more established one , I forgot who. It was good song.
Natasha Ramos should've blown up, her songs were dope...sad most of her work was shelved
Good work guys. First heard of the Neptunes from record sleeve of Blackstreets first album. Back when Teddy Riley was the first me my favourite producer. I was curious who the neptunes were them joined their dots through NORE -oh no , SWV- use your heart... then it was a wrap.. all in on their sound. The Neptunes Bridges are forever legendary
Btw is from South London UK
Clones is still one of my favorite albums
2001 was the year the Neptune’s changed my vision forever 🖖🏽🙌🏽🐐🌌
Same! FOR.EVER!
Correction:
Star Trak started with Virgin Records America first, then went to Arista, Interscope and Universal.
You right there my guy! I just mentioned their last parent company for quickness, I cut some bits down for time, but I’ll be sure to mention in PT 2
Thing with the Neps is i dont think anyone whos been a true hip hop head from the 90s all the way to now ever stopped thinking of how dope they are. Yet i am still amazed everyday about how current they sound now. Its like they spoke to the universe way in advance. Genuine artists. they bridged the gap between commercial rap and street legit shit. and backpacker nosy rap and pop. stuff noone
I remember when Slim Thug signed with Neptune’s it was a pretty big deal down here in Texas. It was right at the beginning of the 2005 Texas Takeover.
Very dope content on one of my favorite producers of all time
this video is well edited and well informed i’m just starting to get into the neptunes and this literally helps me navigate where to listen definitely deserves a sub! looking forward to looking for more content🔥🔥
it's crazy i also figured out the thing with the Latrelle song/Clipse song too.... i commented about it on a youtube video of the Clipse track years back, im glad you mentioned that fact!!!! i always thought it was pretty interesting!
also as someone who has also spent years learning a lot of this stuff, it's so good to see someone dissect it all into a video!! you guys really went into deep detail and made all of this information very digestible to listen to... GOOD JOB GUYS!!!!!
i was only gonna watch this to check it out for a minute and now i've nearly finished it
The ne ptunes 2000-2004 was the era where the neptunes style / sound was at its best. 97-99 was the neptunes sound foundation. But 2000-2004 they masterd they sound n even added more sounds their style.
we need that part 2 asap 🖖🏽
Can you do Justice League, or Just Blaze or three six mafia?
I love the neptunes so much. I'm a musician and audio engineer and they are one of my top 3 production influences all time. The Neptunes, Madlib and Lee 'Scratch' Perry. Great documentary, just what I was looking for!
It's unfortunate Kelis got done kinda dirty financially on that album. I remember a interview where she talked about it and she wasn't close with Pharrell anymore...I wonder if they're good now?
I'm sooo glad you mentioned Kenna!
Me too! .. say goodbye to love is still a favourite of mine that a lot of people don’t even know of!

this is fantastic. day to day its hard to find people who are truly fans of these men. i appreciate your attention to detail bro
Neptune tracks smoke like LaLaLa
I like both versions of "In Search Of" a lot. There's certain tracks I like better on the original like Lap Dance, Tape You, and Baby Doll, and certain tracks I like better on the re-release like Am I High, Provider, and Truth or Dare
Provider on the first version is waaayy better
