Rotate the top to the back position and now you can slide the two pieces and insert the key easily without the weird finger tricks.

Interesting, I made a puzzle sort of like this but without the marble and the prices were different. There must be a lot of variations on this.

That puzzle sucks. I bought a set of 4 puzzles from Amazon and this was the most frustrating puzzle it came with. Now I've put it back together, it can stay that way.
