This was so satisfying to watch. I would want to make one with alternating stainless steel and brass pieces for the contrasting colours. (or anodise half the aluminium pieces in one colour and half the pieces in another colour. Maybe in red and green, just in time for Christmas ).
I used to have a similar puzzle when I was a kid in plastic. it wound up getting me into many more.. until I was about 14... They came assembled, no instructions, and it was fun just taking them apart, then learning to reassemble them.
this is bonkers - i have the 12 piece , i never would guess it would be possible to put another two pieces in and have it still lock and have symmetry . also the way i do it is different to this way, but either way i would have never figured it out without vids like these
Beautiful puzzle, I’d like to get one for myself as a Christmas present 😎 You do wonderful precision work, I’ve been watching regularly since I saw you make those tiny Christmas ornaments. Your narration is great also, it adds so much perspective. Thanks for all the videos!
I don't have a mill, but I guess the bandsaw and file will help me stay busy this Winter. I'm assuming the stock size doesn't matter as long as all the proportions are the same?
Video on Reddit I bumped into tonight called "12 identical pieces form a puzzle" located in the 'oddly satisfying' section of that wormhole website. Made me chuckle and smile a bit.
I have a wooden version of that and it is long enough between times for me to work it I mostly have to figure it out all over again. I bet it took some long time to make that.

Remembering how you assembled it, remove 2 pieces at a time and attempt to index it after each step. Once the frame indexes, you are in the right area to indicate what you did wrong. You will probably have to reverse a couple parts before it works, but you'll know where to start.
@@joepie221 Hi Joe, thanks for taking the time to reply. I don’t know how you actually find the time to do it all, longs days I guess. I will look for your 209 piece puzzle. 👍
Like, you have one of those Einstein minds. Question: How did you get into this puzzle making stuff? In college? What inspired you to even dabble in this type of brain wrenching pain?
My Father traveled extensively for his job. Everytime he came home, he would have a different puzzle for me, so naturally, as a sophomore in high school, I designed and built a puzzle as my shop project. Thats a whole nuther story.............
that is so neat ! I am 74 . what do you expect from me ? I have trouble tying my shoes. this should not be allowed on you tube, you should be ashamed of your self picking on old men.

My old buddy Curly said "Oh, a wise guy huh!?!" Another great, simple, complex project Joe. Pretty cool
I have seen your old puzzle videos. It all makes sense. You are an alien.
Busted. Now I have to go home. :(

(or anodise half the aluminium pieces in one colour and half the pieces in another colour. Maybe in red and green, just in time for Christmas ).
I have a blue anodized and polished aluminum version.
That's a GREAT idea! See Joe's response below. It would cost more, but by God, that would look totally cool.
@@riptide6161 Did I mention, its a 60 pc hybrid of this design. Its truly a nightmare.

And off to find the dimensions...
Ya just never know what you're gonna learn, when you tune into Joe π.
hello from Wisconsin! Thanks again
Dimensions are driven by the material selected. All notches are 1 unit wide and 1/2 unit deep. Simple.
Your mind and talent amazes me.
Thanks. I have my Father to credit for that. He bought me a bunch of these as a kid.
Thanks for the video Joe.
You bet
Great fun, both in quick construction and putting it together. I suggest rubber bands to hold the 14 piece together near the end.
Either that or 7 fingers on each hand.
"The box, you opened it, we came"
Have you seen the newest one? What a shit fest, no Doug Bradley no actual movie.
No, probably give it a miss.
Hi Joe,
Even watching you do it, don't think I could complete either puzzle. 🙂 You and your family stay safe.
I used to have a similar puzzle when I was a kid in plastic. it wound up getting me into many more.. until I was about 14... They came assembled, no instructions, and it was fun just taking them apart, then learning to reassemble them.
I have a box of small wood puzzles my Father bought me over the years from 50+ years ago. Vintage.
Joe, your brain works differently than the rest of us! Well done, sir!
Thanks I agree. Its a curse sometimes.
Are you going to make them again? I would love to get some

Planning to buy my first mill soon. Looks like making myself a set will be a good project to practice on!
Make them all at once. :)
I have one of these and I thought I would never get it back together the first time!
They are very nicely made!!!! Thanks Joe😁
Thank you.

In one of Joe's very early videos he shows his collection and some of the models are made from 4x4 wood posts.
Very hard to hold in 1 hand.
Video on Reddit I bumped into tonight called "12 identical pieces form a puzzle" located in the 'oddly satisfying' section of that wormhole website. Made me chuckle and smile a bit.
This is a very old puzzle design. I believe from the 1890's
Amazing what you can learn on this channel. I wonder who invented the puzzle. Thanks.
William Altekruse ?? 1800's
thank you. I have a pile of wooden parts that look like those.... before you put it together. this could be a game changer.

It took longer to make the fixture. Thanks for stopping by Harold.
Love it! More machined puzzles🥰😁
Is this one of your designs Joe? Very clever puzzle.
No. I believe its called an altekruse design. From the 1800's. It is very clever.
Yes,very interesting. That takes me back to RUBI´S CUBE some 50 years ago.I need to watch all the videos.Thank you.
Rubik still eludes me. I can take it apart and solve it though....does that count?
@@joepie221 Very remarkable.

All notches are half the material deep and full material width wide plus a little. You pick the material size and go from there.
That backup beeper sure made me think I was getting a delivery. Had to look out the window twice before I figured out it was coming from my laptop.
