      Maybe i lost the part where you are choosing the connection between the habs, or how you are choosing. And a e.g. complete Deimos based ship vs Nova etc.
      How convincing, manageable are those manufacturers on their own. Imho when you build a ship, you have a theme in your head. And how good can you build themewise. For me the Outside of Hopetech looks like a Nasa Style, Deimos more of a fighter style... hope i could explain what i mean

    Hey mate, been really appreciating the walk-throughs of these interiors. Such a pity there's not preview/interior editing available in the base game, so your efforts go a long way. Thank you!
    One small suggestion I'd give is to keep your HUD on. When you're inside your ship the compass seems to change to be relative to the orientation of the ship so the nose/tail (bow/stern?) is north/south. This was super helpful planning my interiors with the armories from one of your previous vids.
    Keep it up bro!

    I'll say the same thing about HABs that I said about planets in SWTOR: The fact that you do the exact same thing in/on every single one (quests for SWTOR, and in Starfield there is no functional purpose or difference for your character in these HABs, its mostly cosmetic or for companion use/purposes in Starfield), the only thing that changes is aesthetics, its amazing that the developers can make us have such different reactions to all of them, and the fact some people prefer one over others and another person feels the exact opposite, super impressive.

    • @delindsay
      @delindsay  11 месяцев назад +1

      Oh it's certainly meant as "cosmetic" over having game functionality. Hell, you could create an entire game mechanic with JUST the Ship Habs by requiring certain Habs for certain random encounters to spawn. Like, if you don't have an Infirmary, random encounters where you rescue an injured NPC.

  • @Reyn_Roadstorm
    @Reyn_Roadstorm 11 месяцев назад +3

    Stand alone thought that's been bugging me for days: Can anyone tell me why certain structural pieces *_double or more in mass_* when you flip them upside down? The Nova Cowling 2L when on top has 3 variants - fore, middle and aft - with masses of 4, 3 and 4 respectively. But when you flip them upside down, they all jump to a whopping 8 mass each! There are others with this issue, but this is the part where I first noticed it. Just... WHY?
    Now that my rant is done, here is what I originally started to post:
    I wish the ship builder was much more fleshed out than it currently is. Things I'd like to be able to do:
    -rotate ladders 90 degrees so they don't directly impede the flow of foot traffic in the main walkways
    -rotate habs in 90 degrees increments, so that a 2x1 is now oriented as a 1x2, 3x1 is 1x3, etc and so we could decide exactly how the ship is laid out
    -rotate/flip engines so horizontal mounts could be vertical mounts and vice versa
    -rotate reactors and grav drives from horizontal to vertical orientations
    -flip equipment plates to attach to bottom points, as well as rotate them vertically to attach to side mounts; rotate horizon weapon mounts to attach at top and bottom mounts in addition to side mounts
    -rotate/flip EVERY SINGLE STRUCTURAL PIECE IN THE GAME! There are seriously so many pieces that can't be flipped or don't have an existing counterpart by that same shipyard that it makes no sense. And even the ones with counterparts that are different should be able to be flipped
    -and yes, let us see the interior of everything before building the ship. Current day realtors and architects have software that does this right now. A realtor can show you the interior of an existing house without setting foot in it; an architect can do the same before the house has even started construction. This should be in the game!

    • @delindsay
      @delindsay  11 месяцев назад

      I haven't noticed this but will certainly be on the lookout now for added Mass when flipping.

    I'm not a fan of much of anything from Hopetech. Their stuff is too dark and dingy looking to me. One of the things I look at is the seating in a module. Hope tech makes far and away the best habs astatically. Weyland-yutani vibes, which I'd imagine was the inspiration that the drew from. With Deimos and Stroud defiantly having more Star Wars, Empire/Republic looks. Nova gives off a more Trek vibe as opposed to the others. which makes sense honestly, there is a little something for everyone's flavor of Si-fi spaceship interiors. Only really missing the Firefly looks and 40k. Which to be fair wouldn't be an easy task to appease those fan bases. But no worries, I'm certain the modders are already hard at work building gothic space trans-human horror assets as I type.

      you can only get 8 crew and your bridge usually has a few seats, so it would be sub-optimal to have a 2x1 control station and a 2x1 control room. Really all the larger stuff is just for space. Using this, you should be able to stair step the 3x3's, when you get there. I don't see many options to create single door rooms, like what you have been doing. Only other thing I can figure is creative use of the shock webs.

    The hab variety really speaks into why i say that Bethesda half arses things. They COULD have given Taiyo and Stroud their own look and feels but NOPE, they jut made them the exact same as Hopetech and Deimos, but flipped the colour schemes, and its just really sad.

    • @delindsay
      @delindsay  11 месяцев назад

      Not defending Bethesda here as I've played most of their games since Morrowind and know all to well how they make games, but it's possible the decision came down to time and possibly was either Zenimax's choice or Microsoft, depending on when it was made.

    • @cyanide7270
      @cyanide7270 11 месяцев назад +1

      @delindsay it's just disappointing. They could have done better and more with it but opted not to. Hell, cargo bays dont give you extra cargo space as they should, brigs serve no purpose because taking prisoners isnt a thing, battlestations and computer cores are just for looks since you can practically get max crew capacity from weapons alone, etc. Especially outpost building, that's just severely underwhelming coming off of Falllout 4s settlement building, but it's just in typical Bethesda fashion of releasing a game at 75% and letting modders finish it for them.
      If anything I'd say it's down to the fact they outsourced the game to 27 different studios while in development.

    When placing a 2x1 along side a 2x2, is there a way to control where you are coming in from?

    • @delindsay
      @delindsay  11 месяцев назад +1

      Not easily no. The "best practice" is to pick the snap point you want the door to spawn at, then scroll through the 2x1 Habs (or 2x2 vise-versa) until one natural snaps to that location. That gives you the best chance that it'll have a door there, but you could still end up with 2 doors, or the opposite snap point. It's really a bad design imho.
