@zondor8123 where's your new IP that took more than 10 years of planning a development. And then another 8 years of programming? But bethesd are the lazy ones, and you're so proactive you can criticise them? Take a mirror to bed and wake up to yourself. You're not edgy, funny, or witty. You're jealous
@@Mostaismdipshits love to call Bethesda lazy. It's been happening for at least 20 years (I remember people chalking up features lost between Daggerfall and Morrowind to laziness). Safe to say anyone saying that has an IQ in the 70-80 range and can be safely ignored.
100%!! This is why, to me, this hab is useless (other than for pure visuals). However, you *could* go into these rooms and simply "drop" your inventory onto the floor! LOL... that doesn't even count against your storage numbers of your cargo hold. Mostly, I am looking for function first, good looks second.
@@Kirhean I feel like that could be done for all the Habs. Having a Control Station could add say 10% faster lock speed when targeting another Ship, or 10% better maneuverability. The Living Quarters or All-in-Ones (that have Beds) could boost your Crew's stat bonus by 2% or something like that. You could get super creative.
I agree, though for balancing it should have the least amount of cargo carrying capacity out of all the parts unless you spec into loadmaster skill. Also I would like the cargo hold to be more dynamic, like it looks fuller the more that is in your cargo hold. Like if fully loaded there should only be small one person sized walking paths
Definitely. I'm sure there will be a mod that does that eventually. Obviously the mass would have to increase also, but BSG could have cargo hold habs with storage. Would make a ship look much cleaner rather than have cargo containers all over the ship, ruining the asthetics.
It's really awkward when you realise there's not other way of bringing all these boxes in and out of the cargo space than squeezing them through the manhole and drag them up the ladder.
Love your practical lifestyle commentary on the way things are arranged. Would love to see a video dedicated to changes in hab style based on how YOU feel they should be arranged.
The aesthetics are nice, but I'm more interested in the places to store things. I prefer the armory over much else. Thank you for the videos. They really are helpful to decide the stuff I need/want. Thumbs up.
I’m just imagining someone leaving a circular saw or something on them, the ship’s gravity drive getting shot out, and the saw going flying across the room, hopefully not into someone, and embedding itself in a bulkhead.
Lovin these videos man, it's neat to see all the random stuff they sprinkle around. Too bad you can't do this in like a debug mode so you could see each hab with nothing attached, and attach something to each point to show changes live in the video. Regardless, great stuff.
I would imagine that Modders will figure out how to give us the freedom in the building mode we're missing now. We shouldn't HAVE to wait for Modders to do things that should've been in the base game but here we are.
The cargo habs are a depressing missed opportunity. They should have had a system for Bulk Cargo Slots. A lot like how crew slots work. The cargo hold hab itself would give you some moderate amount of additional cargo capacity, but it would have been empty other than shelves, straps, and nets scatter throughout it. Each 1x1 slot you have would thrn give you a Bulk Cargo slot. Missions would then ask you to deliver these large bulk shipments that then would have dynamically filled 1x1 sections of your cargo holds with the appropriate goods. These items could be crates full of livestock, crates of food or liquor, arms shipments, scientific equipment, furniture, etc. So every time you walk through your hold it is changing based on the kind of things you are delivering. Companions could then make comments on it, like complaining about the smell of livestock, or feeling tempted by the liquor, or joking about snagging some swag furniture for themselves. This would have made the habs feel useful and exciting and give you a good reason to have them, it would have enhanced an otherwise boring mission type and given players a way of fulfilling that space trucker fantasy.
I saw in a another channel 's video that there is a 3x3 cargo habitat by Demos. Its only available authentic Demos dealer on the station orbiting Mars. That channel only shows the habitat in ship building mode. No interiors like your video. I'd love to see you do the interior.
Something that might help you out, especially when you get to the bigger habs: what if your ship is 3 layers, port side you have Deimos on layer 1, Stroud on layer 3. Center you have the landing bay bottom, Nova on top. Starboard you have Hopetech bottom and Taiyo top. Middle layer of course has the spines and crosses/throughways. This will showcase the difference in color schemes and attach points more readily since the 4 outer manufacturers are mirrors of each other.
ive watched all these now and i think they need an osha compliant ship manufacturer lol. one that makes hazardous material lockers for explosives and waste.
My biggest issue with the cargo bay, is that things aren’t strapped down… like you said, what if you have a rough landing? … also why don’t we have a freight elevator that comes down to the ground? Except for 2 landing bays, every other landing bay accesses the ship via a ladder.. how are you going to get ladders into the cargo bay?
Its a good question about rough landing. If the ship has artificial gravity.. maybe the gravity stays the same regardless of a rough landing. 😂😂 Normally i like nova a lot. But here i think i like Deimos most. Looks most like a store room with space for more or less stuff. And you can organise it well.
One of the wall panels does note Gravity is set to 1.01. My assumption then is that the Grav Drive is not only for folding space but also creation of artificial gravity.
@@delindsay yeah, i assume as much. The gravity is also turned off if the grav drive is disabled right? I am only lvl 16 and 42h in - having kids meens i dont get to play a lot and i play is not without interuptions 😆
I'm not a big fan of most of these really. I don't like how HopeTech and Taiyo split the storage into 4 sections. Feels like you lose a lot of storage space to fit those walk lanes in there. Deimos and Stroud feel more like store rooms than Cargo Holds. Nova is probably my preferred one.
Do the cargo bays actually increase the cargo capacity at all? I've not spotted any functionality to them and as far as practicality the weight is better off being used with actual cargo modules (unless I'm missing something). These are purely cosmetic AFAIK? I would have hoped they would have some high storage capacity chests at least to balance the weight and room they take up. (I'm only a third into the video so far so if suddenly there is one option that disproves me then I'll shut up and get back into my box) :D
I haven't watched The Expanse but I'm certain I know what you're talking about. My only guess would be that Bethesda is building an RPG and it's the "Story" that's the hook, not the Ship building. That said, it's clear that Starfields' hundreds of hours worth of Missions/exploration/farming/etc is all a means to build better Ships.
Wish the store rooms were functional. Seems a wasted to just have static junk all over. Will continue to use only functional habs. Why not just create a new base with nothing but the landing pad, to get rid of ship noises during tours.
@@delindsay works pretty well considering what it must have taken to allow so much interconnect ability. Can't wait to see what modders can do to improve it. Like they have for the terribly vague UI.
I just laugh trying to imagine how the game devs were highly critical of their design choices while making these habs. the devs trying to make the habs feel lived in as much as possible and its soo easy for us to criticize each and every little decision. maybe in the future you could go into settlement building mode inside your ship and fully customize the habs how you want.

How cool would it be if the cargo hold contents changed as you put more cargo into your ship? Crates of resources and such.
This is Bethesda, they are too lazy to do any advanced immersion or QoL. Modders is your only best bet
