What about the nut you showed.
I got the door repair piece from toms bronco and got an own latch.
I have everything but the retainer bolt and nut for the latch
Thanks for showing the way to keeping our trucks in nice working order.

Watching this video after I fixed my door handle lol. I pretty much did the same thing. Replaced the bolt with a longer one and used a huge washer on the back side. Tightened down and it feels better than it did before. Good vid 👍.

Bought my '97 F250 HD used. After a couple of years, I had this problem. When I removed the driver side door panel, I found a repair made my a PO. Someone put a toggle like to hang a picture in the hole that bolts the mechanism to the door! Your solution is much more elegant. Thank you.

Guys. I recommend buying the latch assembly. It's expensive. $134.97 eBay . The root of the problem if you've watched enough videos is the latch hinge elongates the pin holes resulting in destruction of the sheet metal as you pull harder and harder to open the door. Mine got so hard I pulled it through and it did something very bad to my elbow and pulled on a tendon. 8 weeks this thing's been hurting because of that door failure. I don't believe I'll ever be able to fully open my elbow again.

    • @blowingdiesel

Thanks for the video, better than the others I watched. My clips were all gone so I didn't have that problem. I did not have to remove window switch, just let panel hang from wires.. My handle was secure so I didn't have to fix sheet metal. My problem was the cable was stretched. I simply popped the plastic thing out of the retaining clip, let it rest against the clip it works fine. I did secure it with wire to be sure. I forgot to plug in the little light, oh well, that door panel is a bugger to get off even without the clips. I will make do without light. It will sure be nice to be able to open the door from inside again

Well I been opn'in my door from the outside for a year now, & I wouldn't have it any other way. ! ! ! I mean everything works out for a reason. Since the A/c didn't work, I was always having to roll down the window for a breeze (other than the one coming from my girlfriend), so when my window got smashed at church, it was problem solved, ( I'm right handed anyways,) so with the window already gone; when the door handle cable broke a month later, I barely noticed because the distance between one handle & the other are the same. being grateful, I just said a little prayer of thanks, for all my problems being solved one right after another. I dont mean to brag, but Truly some of us are blessed more than others.

For those with trucks in good condition, whose interior door handle has gotten stuck for the first time, the fix might be much simpler. My 96 F250 interior driver's side door handle slowly became difficult to open, and finally froze completely. It worked again after simply sticking the nozzle of a can of penetrant/lubricant through the hole where the handle goes into the interior door panel, and blowing out the years of crud gumming up the hinge pins and cable, while very gently wiggling the handle to free it. Another shot to lubricate/clean the door latch, and everything worked as normal again. If you have time and are in a location where you can work, it's of course better to remove the interior door panel and clean and lubricate everything properly, and check for the beginning of the more serious problems shown in this video and others.

What I did was buy some washers and a new bolt/nut to go with it. Then I sandwiched 2 washers between the broken metal and it worked like a charm. But your solution is probably a better long term solution.

Mine has this problem. I have broken both the plastic and the metal ones. It turns out that my problem is my door hinge bushings are wore out and it has caused the bushing and pin hole in the hinge to go oval shaped. It makes the door hard to open because it is out of alignment. When you replace the hinges, it will solve the issue. The hinges are kind of pricey.

  • @okejee3455

If your door handles break often, put a round metal washer on the handle before you screw it on. The replacement handles on sale these days are all cheap plastic….even those sold as ‘metal’….they are not metal but only have small bits of metal mixed with the plastic/resin. They break just as fast. Adding a metal washer between the door and the handle will reinforce the handle, taking most of the force and prevent most breakages.
