Indigenous Reflections on Christianity

  • What are the ecological implications of Christianity?
There’s a story that has has played out all over the world. First come the missionaries doing good. Indigenous communities split apart and connections to land, ancestors and spirits of place weaken-not everywhere, but almost everywhere. Then come, in some order or another, government agents, land speculators, mining companies, the military. Some get rich. Some feel saved. But land and culture suffer. Sacred places are targeted at the same time as political and spiritual leaders are taken down. The connections have to be weakened for the colonizer to win.
We all know about this history but we rarely talk about it in any depth, or assess the relationship to our planet’s environmental crisis. And we rarely listen to what indigenous historians have to say about this-their analysis. Here it is. Onondaga Faithkeeper Oren Lyons, Native Hawaiian historian Davianna McGregor, Australian Aboriginal elder and former Catholic priest Patrick Dodson, and Anishinaabe author and activist Winona LaDuke offer their insights into the history of Christianity in relation to indigenous peoples and ecosystems around the world.
While filming Standing on Sacred Ground: Fire and Ice-in both Ethiopia and Peru-our cameras captured scenes of Christian harassment of indigenous ceremonies on sacred land. These interview bites in this RUclips clip are outtakes from some of the profound interviews we were fortunate to conduct during the making of Standing on Sacred Ground. While our four-hour series does include key sound bites that you will hear in these longer comments, some important thought sequences take a while to unfold. This needs to be a long, long conversation-so let’s have it!

    They had their bible and
    We had our Rivers!
    We had our Lakes!
    We had our Mountains!
    We had our Lands!
    They told us
    'close your eyes and pray'!
    So we closed our eyes
    and we prayed!
    When we opened our eyes!
    They had our Rivers!
    They had our Lakes!
    They had our Mountains!
    They had our Lands!

As a Christian, I apologise as to how native people have been treated. Many so-called Christians in the past
and now, think, the earth, doesn't matter, but it does. God told us to respect and be guardians of this planet.
The environmental movement amongst Christians to save our planet is a real force. The church how many native people describe it is something Christ would have railed against. Jesus would have been on the side of the indigenous people.

I haven’t finished the video yet but at 3:46 when the professor says it’s the Judeo-Christian tradition to basically capitalize on the land I had to pause. We are called to be STEWARDS of the land, not colonizers and profit mongers. We are called to protect and care for the land... unfortunately this has been twisted by heretics for hundreds of years.
It’s so painful to see what the heretics (they’re not Christians) have done to Jesus’ name.

True Christians do not follow religion. We follow the Holy Spirit of YHWH or Yahweh. The pope is considered a Roman Catholic which true spiritually disciplined Christians DO NOT consider aligned with Christian doctrine. The pope calls himself the Holy Father which is blasphemy, Christians do not subscribe to this doctrine or any of the politicized nature and even pagan roots which are married to Christian values= Catholics. For instance, Christians do believe that Jesus is the living water therefore in a spiritual sense we agree much more on the value within Mother Earth and essentially all of humanity, or spiritually. As a Christian who does have a foundation in the word of God I could say that any seriously committed Christian person will condemn the any abuse of any person. Yahweh created the world so that each idea or spiritual side of things would have a marriage between morality and spiritual. Christians do no only focus on morals. We do that in order to build and teach a substantial way to strengthen and keep your spirit from becoming defiled. That’s why morality is important and so clear outline in naturalism. There is a marriage of all things because the Father so created the world this way. He cannot force people into following his ways but He does hold everyone accountable so the justice and love and mercy all play out in perfect. He marries things together and does not separate anything that is good ever! He says let no one separate what God has brought together and made good. So if you blame Christianity for all of these things in which Christian people are responsible for and not the actual beliefs then you are walking a slippery slope and you are risking the fact that you are denying Christ Jesus (Christ Jesus literally means Chosen Messiah and Savior or one who saves). This argument and video is highly misleading and does not even understand Christian doctrine.

yellowleaf I agree. How can we expect native people to embrace a religion that has been so terribly forced upon them by corrupted groups. If I didn’t know Jesus I would be just as hurt by anyone who claims Christianity is good after the atrocities committed by these groups. The Catholic Church needs to accept and address what they have done to people. They must repent. They must reconcile. Because of the residential schools and the torture and abuse, because of the doctrine of discovery, they are denying so many people the love that Jesus has for them. They have turned people AWAY from God. My prayer is that Jesus reaches everyone. That people welcome Him with open hearts. That’s what’s important. ❤️

I’m moved by these brave testimonies. 🔥So many barbarians came “in the name of god”. My sincere deep apology for the crimes of so-called “Christian” people. It’s a terrible history. I’m ashamed and saddened by the reality of it. I’ve been reading the Bible for almost 40 years. Jesus never instructed us to steal land or property. Or to kill anyone. It’s not there. Period. Jesus said love your neighbor as you love yourself. Not to quarrel with people. He came to lay His life down so we wouldn’t have to shed blood anymore. Then He gave Himself up to be hung... sounds way different from what the Europeans did to the indigenous tribes in North America. BTW, I’m Taino Indian and Christian. I would love to see us repent and do better towards the original keepers of this land. I don’t understand why the European mindset has to conquer everything. There’s a lot to repent for. 😢

I am Cherokee. I am so very happy to see this film, to know others are discussing this! For the past 35 + years I've tried to open this discussion among other Cherokee. Still, in fear, they cling to Christianity. For so long, my people had many things to fear. For over 200 years the Cherokee tried to show the whites and the Government that we were the same as them and there was no need to take our land, and later our children. I hear Christian prayers at our sacred ceremonies and I want to scream, wake up.. wake up! Nothing the Cherokee did stopped the greed, the fear, the hatred, the resentment, the land is gone, they took our children, the people lived in fear and still do... but there is nothing left for anyone to take, now. The chain of tradition is broken.

Tradition, tradition, the usual cry of the extreme right wing in any political or religious culture. Tradition is bunk unless instituted by the one God, the Creator of the universe. And even He changes programme (dispensations, some theologians call this) from time to time. And with the traditionalists, the chauvinists, it's always 'my people, my people, our ways, our ways, are the best.' Chauvinism, that's what it is, pure and simple. Every nation has its chauvinists, first in line to whip up the frenzy of war. But the verdict of history and of the Word of God is that 'all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.' Have you ever lied or cheated or lusted after what is not yours? Then you are a sinner like the rest of us, Cherokee or not. Do you know anyone who is not a sinner? I do: Jesus Christ of Nazareth, born not a European but a Jew. He was not born the normal way, having no biological father. He did not behave 'normally', but with perfect integrity. He went about doing nothing but good, and teaching in such a way that no one could refute. His execution had to be framed because nobody could accuse him without lies and contradictions, and so it is today! He paid in His own innocent blood the just penalty for your sins and mine. His resurrection from the dead and his ascension put the stamp of authority on everything He ever said and did in the sight of mankind. Compared with the magnificent life of Christ, what are pagan fripperies, feathers and smoke and all? And to be frank, much pagan superstition crept into the churches over time, corrupting their message and witness, perhaps giving encouragement to people like you to reject the Gospel. But no one is exonerated by the sins of others. Please reconsider your position for your own good, I beg you.
Keeping one's pride is not worth losing one's soul.

Thank you for your consideration. You sound happy with your religion and that is good for you. I have no fear, that which is the creative force of the Universe includes all and is beautiful beyond words. The only thing I have to say about Christianity is that it's been changed so much from it's original form that what we now know of it may not be as it was in the beginning. One thing we know without doubt is that Christianity in it's original form was born from a nomadic tribe of people. Much later Constantine used Christianity to unify the people he ruled... then the Roman Catholic Church did their best to wipe out any other belief system on Earth because the leaders were more interested in the power and wealth that controlling people brought than they were interested in living life as Christ taught. They were almost successful in wiping out all the people who had other beliefs... but thank God, they didn't completely succeed. Christianity, with all it's denominations, each saying you must follow their brand of Christianity if you want to go to heaven, etc... is a far cry from the original form that Christ taught. Sinners- That is a Christian concept that does not apply to my and many other's beliefs. If you want to believe that you are a sinner, I will not argue with you. I believe each of us has God within us and that all things, all people, everything is a part of God. So, I accept that you want to experience your life trough Christianity.. and really, that's ok. I do not judge you. Nor would I think myself superior to you or anyone because I might think my beliefs are better than yours. Though, time after time, Christians have behaved that way toward any who do not follow their beliefs or even their denomination. This I find is a contradiction.. it goes against the words of Christ.. which Christians are supposed to follow if they are Christians. I wish you well and great happiness along your path of life, and as you follow the words of Christ.

Glad to hear from you; I was hoping that I might. Of course it is rather comforting to find that you do not have a hostile attitude, because I spoke sharply on some points----though you may already understand, with acute concern as well. And I have high regard for my indigenous brethren in the Church. If you will, they and I belong to the same people,
but we aim to include as many members as possible!
Culturally there have been immense changes over 2000 years, but the essential Gospel message remains crystal-clear, and the usual objections remain the same (as one can see from reading the pastoral letters between Acts and Revelation). Also human needs, I believe, are the same the world over, which is one reason why I don't show more sensitivity toward ethnic particularism. Maybe being descended from very different European 'tribes' and having biracial (Eurasian) kids changes one'spersepctive too. I have even given up my own former civic nationalism as too narrow and exclusive. (However I also reject the global cosmopolitanism pushed by schools, media, the corporate world, and many politicians, as I bet you also might.)
I am from Canada, and indigenous people here have recently made long-overdue impact in national politics. When I was growing up in the seventies in Saskatchewan, there was for all intents and purposes apartheid between natives and whites. The only two native kids I knew personally were adopted, and then there was the son of my brother's Metis baseball coach. You might have heard of the scandal of Canadian residential schools. Quite apart from the charge of cultural genocide, these were a brutal assault upon the institution of the family. To make matters worse, the government farmed out their young charges to church-run organizations which by and large disgraced the name of Christ by their actions.
You may remember the parable of the wheat and the tares (it is easy to look up), that not everyone posing as a Christian truly follows Jesus or has His Spirit living within. The Roman Catholic church bears responsibility, I should think, for the greatest number of abuses (typically beatings and sexual abuse),
though they were not alone. Their policy of forced clerical celibacy (if you can call it that!), a ridiculous policy unjustified by any Scripture, must have exposed men and women in positions of power, unprepared for and undeserving of responsibility, to temptations
which they could not overcome, and there was no supervisory authority to check their criminal activities. Now it is generally true that lack of accountability leads to degenerate behavior, because human inclinations are naturally evil,
as the Bible clearly teaches (and it is proven by history and experience as well). Even when we do good deeds, there is usually considerable self-regard in it.
But to return to the story, there has been a 'truth and reconciliation' commission, inspired no doubt by a similar process in South Africa.
Past colonial policies have been so far put to shame that there is no going back. Now it is perfectly understandable that (as we now say) First Nations folks who were mistreated by parachurch organizations in tandem with government organizations, would have trouble disentangling the original Christian message from the mess of racism, crime, and religious hypocrisy (literally, play-acting) in which they have been immersed for approximately three generations. Add to that having to live in an economic limbo, not fully able to pursue traditional occupations, nor fully invited into the modern economy. But I have seen (on TV mostly) many eloquent speakers on behalf of their communities. Like black folks in the USA, in order to shine they really must shine.
But then you have the typical disproportionality with respect to alcoholism, suicide, prostitution, incarceration, etc., and Third World economic conditions in remote communities subjected to a dependent relationship with government. Maybe it is better in the USA, where the colonial history was far more violent, but where indigenous heritage seems to be valued among white folks nowadays. That I wouldn't know.
I hope that was a necessary diversion. But the point is this: it troubles me when people of any background cannot see the beauty of Jesus Christ because they are too busy looking in the mirror with rose-colored glasses on, even if they are doing so in an effort to extinguish their own pain. I honestly feel that indigenous folks are selling themselves short by retreating into the past. Sometimes I have had to admit to myself that the past is past. One cannot go back and retrieve it and do it over again, but better this time. In order truly to live, one might have to leave more than just bits of one's self behind. Nobody ever left himself behind more completely than Christ. 'Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.'
But He did rise again, and invites us to share that experience. Believer's baptism symbolizes the death of the old self and the rising again with Him. And sooner or later the new life will be evident in new behavior and new attitudes. As it says, 'faith without works is dead'.
      All the best.

I enjoyed reading your comment. It sounds like you are educated and a person of good consciousness and Spirit. It is a pleasure to discover this about you.
I was sure I'd get a different response from you, I love being surprised.. you seem like a very interesting person!
I have to agree.. Native people were not treated well in the past. History of humanity repeated itself when Christians came to the North and South Continent on this side of the world. One or two Popes gave Catholic explorers permission to usurp Native people and possessions and this mentality continues on even today, though to a much lesser extent.. there's not much more that can be usurped from Native people, not much is left.
Things are better now in North America for all people, regardless of color. Humanity has evolved a little bit, though greed, etc.. still reigns. Until all humans can recognize this within ourselves and treat it all in a different manner.. Humanity will continue allowing these things to destroy us all.
What I'd like to comment upon is the unfortunate, judgmental, condescending, arrogant and ignorant attitude that most Christians project toward anyone who is not a Christian and/or not in their denomination. I'm not saying you project this in a horribly negative manner.. yet, subtly, you do have that attitude.
This mindset is what each Christian learns, it is a part of what is being taught as Christianity and so most Christians really are unaware that they're projecting this silly attitude toward people. They think and project to others that their beliefs are right and everyone else is wrong, they are superior.
No one likes to be around people who are like this, and as far as Christianity goes.. it is the reason a lot of people immediately turn down the volume .. don't listen to Christians. This is not what Jesus taught, but as far as I can discern, is a left over from the middle ages and is still useful because it keeps Christians from questioning their religion and investigating God for themselves. I've always found that through questioning one learns, understands to a deeper more profound level, than just following what someone else says.
This has helped create people like countless Popes, countless TV and radio Church Preachers, people like Jim Jones.. etc.. etc...etc... to use Christianity for their own greedy goals. But, it's not just Christianity.. these behaviors can be seen in just about every religion since the dawn of time until today.
Human Beings have a long history of ugly, vile, selfish and greedy behaviors in everything they do. I've often wondered if this ugly behavior is built into our DNA. These ugly behaviors humans do to humans and other life... are the reason we do not live in Heaven on Earth at this moment. Accountability.. you hit the nail on the head.
It's because people don't seem to understand that.. God is in everything, every moment, everywhere... There are no secrets, no hidden behaviors.. The God in all things is not blind, but see's all things. Humans do not understand.. we think that there isn't accountability for our actions unless we get caught, but even then, we can lie and cheat our of it... but in reality, each moment of our lives is a moment we are accountable for .. because God is in all things, everywhere, always. Nothing, nothing is hidden.
As we treat others, we are treating God. Do unto others as you would have done to you. Jesus said that. Jesus said many profound truths. As far as I am concerned, Jesus is the Son of God. .. But also.. each person born is a son or daughter of God, though they may not be aware of it. I may not count myself as exclusively Christian, but I do acknowledge the wisdom and beauty of what Jesus taught. Throughout the history of Humanity, there have always been profound individuals who shared their knowledge of God.. in many different religions and Spiritual Paths.
God is not the exclusive possession of Christianity, though, I've found that a lot of Christians of every denomination believes God belongs only to them and no one else.
The Catholic Church, so long ago.. said that humans needed someone to intercede for them.. for God. The Christian church still practices this.. every denomination.
I don't believe humans need someone to intercede for us.. I believe each moment God is with us, in us, around us... always. I believe each person is accountable for how they treat God.. the God in each of us, all things, everywhere always.
The Christian concept of sin.. is Christian, though I do believe in every word and action we humans make.. we can destroy or protect, honor or disrespect the God in all things, everywhere always. This life is a gift, beautiful, precious, sacred. As I treat you, so shall the Sacred, Creation, God be with me. As you are with me, so shall the Sacred, Creation, God be with you. It doesn't manifest while we live but without doubt, it does when we pass to the other side of life when this brief experience in the physical Sacred ends. I don't think most people are aware of this, if they were, we would all be in heaven on Earth at this moment.
But, as it really is... Humans continually do despicable things to each other. I hope we will evolve, mature, and stop acting like children on the playground when the teacher is away.. because really.. the teacher is always watching. haha.
I've written way to much, and basically just wanted to tell you that I enjoyed your post. I'm sleepy and at these times I get wordy. I was pleased that the hard core superior attitude most Christians have.. was not in your post. May all things be bright and beautiful in your life, and may we all celebrate the Sacred that surrounds all of us, each moment.

I hope that don't mind my responding in kind (again) and at some length-------no pressure on you to continue if you don't want to. I too was pleasantly surprised by the number of strong insights which you have. I acknowledge without any displeasure your perception that the sense of certainty which Christians have, even though not grounded in themselves but in Another, may come off as arrogant superiority--even when we (as you see is my aim) make a conscious attempt to suppress arrogance. So firmly ingrained is the sense of 'we' versus 'them', the tribalism if you will, in human nature. Intellectually it would be dishonest for us to compromise our basic beliefs, but at the same time Christ, Who had and has the real authority and Himself embodies Truth, is the perfect example of humility. So, guilty as charged, but at least the solution to the problem lies within our faith, in being more obedient to the Lord while on this earth, and in the hope that, for those who are saved, the sinful nature and any remembrance of it will may be erased with physical death,
like the shedding of a constricting cocoon
(or as in the Biblical resurrection, leaving behind the grave-cloth).
Your own theological understanding seems like a cross between Biblical monotheism and pantheism. Of course a fully Biblical revelation of God places God outside the Creation though also in it: 'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth'. But you do not seem to regard God as impersonal, as some pantheists do----as it were, the sum total of what is. That way of thinking wouldn't provide a clear basis for ethics, and on those grounds you would reject that philosophy just as I do. However, if God really is independent of His Creation and sovereign over it, then He is the subject of history in a way that we are not and nature, or the earth, is not. This difference in emphasis is one of the contrasts which I see between Christian and indigenous monotheism. Another major difference has to do with their treatment of sin, which you actually described very well as a social phenomenon. But according to the Biblical story, humanity lived once (for a very short time) in a state of innocence but corrupted itself, with tragic consequences which we see every day: you must have heard, 'for the wages of sin is death'. That is a powerful reason for not holding any particular human culture in very great confidence. At the same time, God used the dispersion of mankind to make a multicolored and very interesting quilt of nations and tribes. But in Christ, not only are human persons redeemed individually, but to a limited extent culture can be improved, its worst elements mitigated; and in Christ (but only truly in Christ, not through political means), a new unified humanity can be built.
Perhaps you have heard Galatians 3:28, 'There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.' That is the vision which inspires me, as a person who otherwise would be quite cynical and 'down' on the world. Obviously it is not a political program at all, but it has political implications, which are far too often ignored
For example, in a 'democratic' nation like the USA, if it had been true to its much-vaunted Judeo-Christian roots, black slavery, or the deportation of indigenous tribes across the Mississippi, should have been considered unconscionable.
As for the filial relationship of human beings to God, I see two ways to understand this. The first is part of what we call 'general revelation':
'for in Him we live and move and exist........for we are His children' (excerpted from Acts 17:27-28). It is not specifically Christian of course. However it entails a much higher and more accurate understanding than gross superstition and polytheistic idol-worship, or atheism which denies the very existence of a spiritual realm. The second way accounts for the natural enmity which exists between man and God ('the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, becausethat which is known about God is evident within them'), which parallels the enmity between man and man, so that a 'new birth' is needed before we can receive the 'adoption' as sons and daughters. 'But as many as received Him' [that is, Jesus, and it does not say 'as many as admired Him'], 'to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,
who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God'
      (John 1:12-13).
Of course I can't help trying to make the case again, knowing full well that nobody's conscience can or should be forced. In closing, I should mention that I was not brought up in the Church, although when I was young my parents did attend sporadically and sent me for awhile to Sunday school-------but I didn't understand a thing. It took a number of encounters with believers and a fair bit of disillusionment before I began to see spiritual things as important. Of course I had to be convinced of the historical facts surrounding Jesus Christ before I would listen. I was converted and baptized at age 22 while away at college. Sometimes God has to wake us or shock us before we pay attention, and often repeatedly. As is says (Jeremiah 17:9) 'The heart is more deceitful than all else and is despertately sick, who can understand it?'
We do necessarily have to agree for me to wish God's blessing upon you and your family.

I am an indigenous people from the north-eastern part of India. My people have suffered under British colonisation for years, they burnt and brutally killed my people to crush our resistance. At present day we are still fighting for freedom from the Indian Government and to demilitarised our sacred land that belongs to our ancestors.
Protestant Christians from north America came in the 19th century and successfully converted us into their White Christian beliefs, now 95% of indigenous people are Christians. Growing up I was told by my own parents everything my ancestors believed and practiced were false, the white man that brought Jesus to us from America is superior over all our ancient beliefs and traditions.
Most my people have no idea about the European settlers genocides of the Native Americans in the name of their religion. We barely have proper water supply or electricity in my land, so getting the truth out and reversing the damage is not going to happen anytime soon for us. I am praying to the Creator that one day there will be justice for my people too.

Much respect for indigineous customs and native spirituality. everyone should have the liberty to worship and commune with creator in their own way as to not invade on the freedoms of another. Thank you for making this video and encouraging conversation.
it is sad how ppl have perverted true christian teachings and symbols.
I understand from reading my Bible that God wants RECONCILIATION with his people, all people, his creation- that is why he sent Yeshua to show the way of unbiased love, a sound mind, and VIGILANCE in not only speaking but walking truth. Jesus threw the money exchangers out of the temple because it defiled the sacred site. Yeshua came because the jewish priests became too obsessed with customs than the actual worship and maintaining relationship with Creator. Creator wants to be involved in our lives 'you cannot serve both God and money' Matthew6:24. He wants us to show the love to our peers that he shows us unconditionally by sustaining life. too bad too many monsters are defiling this beautiful earth full of teachings. Jesus and John the Baptist both had no material riches, they traveled the land in humility and sought refuge in the wilderness. He had a connection with the land.
these monsters that claim to be christians are wolves in sheeps clothing speaking lies to progress in their own self seeking ventures- that is the work of Satan- to make man believe he can be God, to sever our connection and relationship.
Language has also jaded these teachings, and constructed cultural blockages. Creating safe space for everyone to share unique perspective is the foundation of respect. how boring life would be if we all homogenous! revival of diverse ppl, foods, and wisdom. peace to you all

To know God is to experience God. Knowing is not an intellectual pursuit. it is experiential. Jesus knew himself as one with God “I & my father are one.” He wanted equals, not worshippers. “And when you find God,, you shall be able to do what I do & even greater things”. He was telling you who we are in truth. We are all one with God. The whole reality is of God. We have separated ourselves to such an extent that we have made the ego King. Hence the reason we need “saving”. In truth we don’t need saving bc we are already one with God & always have been. To live in this realization is to live in truth. When you know you are one. God is here, the mind is free, life is wonderful! what religion do you need? That light informs you far beyond any book. Joy is our nature. The Christ is each one of us in our knowing of ourselves as one with God. That light holds a frequency, a tone. That is why it’s called “the atonement”. God and man are one, that is the highest revelation known to man. That is our true identity. This has always been true. Enough people know this and we can readily create miracles together. Rather than being told what to believe and existing in limitation because a misinterpreted and missing parts book, told us what to believe. No more denial - we are all one and always have been! That is the mystery of the Christ. It is revealed through the light in your heart “kingdom is WITHIN”.

No one comes to the Father except through me. you say ego death which im guessing you mean death to sin but how do you "die to yourself" and "die to your ego"? how can you? what truly sets you free from it? dont you already have to know yourself to be set free from it? and how are you even aware that you need to be set free? I agree realising we are one with God is to live in truth but where is it found? within or in relationship with God? you say once you realise this you live in truth. bible teachers God created us in his image and even before he created us he knew our sin but through his grace he guildes our paths and knocks on our hearts. God is with but not within us. we recieve him by acknowledging our "sin", "ego" (repentance) and acknowledge we need him to save us from it because only he can. we are born imperfect and without knowing him we are subject to punishment and its only right because we would have lived a life of self when we are born to serve him and eachother. When he accept him he comes into us through his holy spirit and we become renewed. we find the "light within us" because God is light. and its only through him and his holy spirit that guides us that we can find our purpose and calling on this earth and become one with him by personal relationship through his word and by talking to him through prayer. Only then can we know what true joy is as its a gift given to us by our creator and only then can we know the love he has for us by giving his beloved son to die for our sins and "saving" us from them. Thats why we need him and not religion. What light is guiding you? Remember devil comes as an angel of light. he deceives if you believe in it. maybe your truth sounds more beautiful but my truth is real because its written in his words. John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." how is the word God? because he speaks to us through it :)

They can be exsolved of sins a variety of ways, and there is more than one mediator between God and an individual. So that being said, Jesus is the only one who has the ability to forgive sins, and the in only way to heaven. We ALL came from the hand of God through Adam and Eve. We are ALL "indigenous" to the earth. Land does not belong to one group over another it belongs to EVERYONE. "Indigenous" is a misnomer.
Nations, on-the-other-hand is a human creation. Nations have been fought for and won and lost to groups and individuals because of the fallen human condition. Had Europeans not come to the Americas, Western tribes on this continent would still be waring with each other and still living in tee pees. Now they benefit from white man's progress, which they enjoy.
The earth itself is not a living creature, but rather a part of creation that came from the hand of God as well. We are to "dress and keep it" as God instructed us to in the beginning, because this (whole planet) is our home and we should treat it with respect, not because it and is "alive", but because it ("...and all that in them is...") is a blessing from God.
Christ came, lived and died for ALL people that they might behold the Father as He truly is and not as Satan has made Him out to be. Aspects of "Christianity" are flawed and some "christians" have even bought into Satan's misrepresentation of God, because they do not know Him as He is. Men ought not look to other men as their example, but ONLY to Jesus Christ, for He alone is the perfect example of how we are to live and to treat our brothers and sisters, no matter what continent or island they live.

We have to keep in mind that not all Christians or other cultures/faiths support what happened to the Indigenous people. There are hellions in every group and some more than others. I have enjoyed what I learned and also now feel more connection to nature realizing something was missing from myself spiritually in my past. Interesting too that people have been searching for the healing remedies that nature provides and the Indigenous know about and with this, it would be a blessing if the Indigenous took back farming so it will be natural and healthy! In view of the climate crisis and the growing effects on the land and all life upon it there seems to be a crucial question to ask....How can a better understanding be brought to the larger public that has grown up in the culture of entitlement/dominion over the Earth of the need to shift into a desire for sacred relationship to it and for the land upon which we regionally call home? Are there successful native/indigenous "bridge builders" out there that are finding successful ways of reaching and teaching the Judeo Christian population these ways?

I follow Christ only not any Church, Pope or Dogma, the biggest Commandment of his is to Love ur Neigbour as urself and to NOT do to others as u would NOT wanna be done to urself. Which is very Native Value. I am so sorry for everything which was done to all Indigenous Communities and Nature by these Power Hungry Criminals. Please do NOT let anyone lie to you. It says God will destroy those who corrupt the Earth! Much of Christs Teachings was falsified also. I am sure you be saved and are very valuable to Christ and to the Maker of ALL LIFE, the Great Free Spirit. Do NOT let anyone here bully you into Teachings of Hell etc...! So well said, but painful. Even though I did not grow up indigenous, and that part of our heritage was quashed, I felt the crushing oppression of fundamental christianity, and the continued damage it inflicted. I like James Baldwin's idea, in regard to the black person in the US, that the white man has also imprisoned themselves in a prison they cannot see because of the inability or unwillingness to see the "other" as the same, as human. I see the invisible prison my family has constructed around itself, based on religion, and the incredibly narrow experience of life they have had as a result. And completely cut off from connection and life source of nature!

I feel for as these people, me being Native American, Mexican, White. It's truth, people misinterpret God/use God to their advantage long ago and now. As a Christian I'm still learning, I still know that is not the 1 true God. That's the devils work he smart but doesn't overpower. As well as bible doesn't focus on the relationship with earth, it does mention Job 1:7,8, But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you. or let the fish in the sea inform you. Romans 12:16 NLT “Live in harmony with each other. Don't be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don't think you know it all! Bible is truly a love letter to me, it teaches me respect towards myself, others, God, nature, and with that correlates respect with all of that, it connects.

Culture lives in someone's soul and really can't be removed - it can be stifled - but not removed. It's a nasty thing to take this away from anyone. After learning about treaties and Indian Act having loose ends, no proper and truthful closure, I am carrying thoughts that we are living on Indigenous land - not the reverse. What came after is possibly a system built on null and void agreements to gain power and control. Seems that way......??

I started drinking when I was 16. I would drink at parties, but I also started drinking alone because I was unhappy, and I was in a lot of emotional pain all the time. My mom was very aggressive when I was younger, and my brother hated her and so did I. He started hanging out with shady people, he started failing all his classes, he was never home, and my parents fought all the time. I also ran away several times. I was always trying to figure out a reason as to why I was here or what the purpose of life was. So, I started looking at different philosophies, religions, and beliefs. When I was 18 after I was hungover, I got on my knees and I prayed for the first time. I asked if God was real that he would show me he was real because I couldn’t take it anymore. I was crying when I prayed for this. At that moment I felt a presence come over me like a wind. It was barely noticeable, but it was unlike anything in my life I had experienced up until that point. I was surprised when I felt it and I remember saying “what was that?” after that experience I pretty much forgot what happened and kept partying, until my senior year when I got arrested. After my arrest, my parents lost all their trust in me and I was expelled from high school. I was told never to come back. At that time, I felt afraid and hopeless. That’s when I started looking for God, and I prayed that he would reveal himself in my life and that he would give me signs. My prayers began getting answered so consistently that I couldn’t deny that God was doing something. It was mysterious and compelling. I ended up in Church and started reading the bible hours a day. I stopped hanging out with all my other friends because they were continually getting arrested. I was able to forgive my family and myself and to ask to be forgiven. I noticed how at Church people were judgmental and how they formed cliques but were afraid to be around anyone else different from them. It increased my faith because I realized Jesus was not like that and ever since I was young, I saw people as people regardless of who they were. After a while, it’s like I could see God's presence was in my life and then it felt like he wasn’t, and then he was, and then he wasn’t. One day I woke up and felt more depressed than I ever have in my entire life. I felt like I was dying on the inside. That night I prayed, and I said, God, I don’t see my life five years from now I'm going to die Jesus save me Lord, please save me. I was weeping when I said it and when I asked him to save me, I felt a presence inside of me like a heartbeat, and I felt it once like a pulse, and I said Lord please save me and I felt it again even stronger. It was like radiance. When I woke up the next morning, I had transformed everything felt brand new like I was a kid again. All my fears and all my racing thoughts everything was gone. I looked at my hands, and I said this can’t be real it’s impossible. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I saw a different person. I started praying, and the holy spirit became entirely real to me it was washing over me and inside of me. It was total love and peace, and I heard a voice but not an audible one, it was an inner voice. It said I am with you; I love you, I will never leave you, it’s done it’s finished. That was May 3rd, 2009, and ever since then I’ve followed God, I have seen many things change and many things I know wouldn’t have changed without faith and belief. I know what it’s like to be lost to feel you have no hope. Don’t ever think you’re stuck, or life can’t change because it can. My mom is a Christian now, Its night and day. Some of the things that went away during that period were severe anxiety and my addiction to alcohol. I’ve seen and experienced so many things that are miraculous and seen how God has worked in my life. When we ask God to forgive us for what we’ve done and turn away from our sins and wrongdoings and we believe in Christ's sacrifice everything changes. His word says if we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that he died and rose again we will have eternal life but not just life after death but abundant life in the present. Our sins are erased not only past, present, and future but our burdens and fears are lifted also. Our thoughts, our minds, our hearts, our souls are transformed and united with God and we know his spirit lives in us. If you seek, pray, and knock you will know JESUS IS KING!!! HE LIVES!

If a person seeks God they will know Jesus is king and he lives. I'm guessing you're one of those people cause I can't see a Christian not being in agreement with what I'm saying. God has the ability to save and change lives I'm not going to tiptoe cautiously with what I say. I've been sharing for the past 11 months with people who were at the end of their rope. Many of them have told me it's changed their life, given them hope, or made them want to seek out God. Some have told me they came to Christ. I haven't heard a single complaint until now. Do you think Jesus or his apostles said they didn't want to push Christ on anyone? They pushed far harder than I have with that "last part"

Very thought provoking on how Christianity, as a movement from a sociological point of view, has acted in the past 400 years. The theology has been influenced by colonisation, enlightenment, industrialisation. BUT, A huge amount of teachings from the Bible talk about connection to the land (promised land!), community of creatures praising God (Ps148), to preach the good news to every creature (Mk 16:15), that Creation is very good (Gn 1), that environmental degredation is wrong (Jr 12:4), and so on. egliseverte-greenchurch.ca/green/component/content/article/292

The views you refer to within the Christian religion & scripture are not like the spiritual views of native peoples. I cannot speak for all natives but only as someone brought up with native spiritual views as well as with Christian views, as my parents & older relatives were divided on religious lines. With native peoples, all life is considered sacred, & that means everything that is a part of the earth & the universe: there is no division between inanimate & animate in traditional native thought. The land itself is alive & we relate to the land as a life form. It is not a possession. The sacred lives within all we perceive--within the land itself, within plants, within the rain, as within humans & all other animals. We traditionally have recognized no gods in the western or Christian sense of the term, and that has been a major problem for native peoples since Europeans first arrived. No native spirituality claims to be the only true spirituality. No traditional native spirituality includes the concept of conversion such as Christianity does. Indeed, the belief in conversion has made Christianity the ideal religion for conquest & colonization & genocide of other peoples. Any religion that claims to be the only true religion, that claims their god to be the only true God, that requires that all non-believers be converted--as both Christianity & Islam do--is from its very foundation bound to oppress other peoples. These Christian claims remind me of the school bully who uses coercion (physical and/or psychological) to force others to obey.

Well said and simply the facts....
Patriarchy is an off planet Alien mindset that seeks to eliminate and destroy the Divine Feminine truths found in most every indigenous culture. Matriarchal truths vs Patriarchal lies.
Christianity is a VooDoo spell that blinds the believer and is consecrated through the ritual of Drinking a Dead mans blood and eating a dead mans body... this dead man is supposedly the divine representation of all humanity ... a dead man hanging on a cross ... actually represents the death of humanity as the Abrahamic religions has succeeded in separating the Anthropos (human animals) from Nature.... our divine source of all life. Mother Nature....Sophia the Wisdom Goddess...
The Abrahamic religions are EVIL all the way down to their core teachings.

@@freebird9646 Thanks for adding your thoughts. I seldom get positive responses when I express my views re: Christianity & how it has had a big part in the genocide of native peoples. Beats me how anyone could argue against this, if they know even the most basic history of the U.S., but of course basic history seldom includes Indians except as (at best) defeated by the colonists & the US government & military. We're still largely invisible, & the genocide continues, with attempted conversion to Christianity playing a huge role into the 21st c. Not only in the US but throughout the Americas.
I'm not sure if I understood some of your references to matriarchy, at least in re: to native peoples. No known native people was matriarchal. Of known Indian peoples of N. Am. (including Mexico & Central Am.), the vast majority were not patriarchal (prior to Eur. colonization). This doesn't mean they were matriarchal. Among some peoples, there might have been a slight edge of leadership that favored women, as among the Cherokees, but women were never in power anywhere close to what might be defined as a matriarchy. Among most peoples, men & women shared decision making & neither dominated the other in social & family structures.
Among the minority of Indian peoples who've been defined as patriarchal, none were patriarchal in the sense of patriarchal societies of the 'old world.'
In viewing native peoples of pre-Columbian times, it should be remembered that among all known native peoples the vast majority recognized 3-6 sexes/genders. None viewed sex-gender as western society has for centuries--that is, no known native people recognized two opposite sexes, the two sexes believed to be biologically determined. In fact, most of the western beliefs re: sex/gender were totally alien to native peoples. Native peoples evolved & developed independently of 'old world' views & ways for many millennia, to the extent that native concepts & social structures cannot be described adequately in European languages, as the same concepts do not exist in these languages. The accepted ways of translating native languages is still very colonialist, with most such translations amounting to forcing native terms & concepts to fit into western molds, which is a form of cultural genocide.
Thanks for your support on a very unpopular issue.. it's reassuring to know there are others out there!

Those who DO NOT EVEN know who penned their bible and what the agenda is and was for those that accept and follow in blind faith. We ALL need to continually be seeking the TRUTH, and that TRUTH is not found in material books, but rather in the HEART of men and our everlasting Souls. Excellent video... thank you.

A lot of historical issues need to be thrashed out, for sure, but conversation itself won't arrive at THE TRUTH. Jesus Christ said, 'I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.' This statement allows for two possible responses: acceptance or rejection. So it is with Truth.
But 'God is love'. Those Europeans who did not know God in a personal way, or who by reason of their own ungoverned passions and lusts represented Him poorly, and so abused indigenous people, will be dealt with appropriately by a loving and therefore also a just God. Meanwhile, victimhood per se does not confer moral superiority either, even if it does invite sympathy, and God's judgment upon oppressors.

    • @JoniHankin
      @JoniHankin 7 лет назад +1

You must seek Truth within you. If you chose to decide that you must find the Creator/Father through the son, then that is your route and current understanding. The Creator is accessible to ALL by ALL, as we are all "sons" and "daughters" of the Most High, Infinite Creator. If your God/Father has many criteria for you, and upon failing the criteria, you are sent away to everlasting separation, then that is the "loving" Divinity that you have chosen to follow. The Most High Creator is far beyond the jealousies, the wars, the condemnations of this earthly walk for we are ALL on a journey to understanding who we are, and this lifetime is just one chapter. It's not a flesh and blood thing, however, if you find peace in that realm, then go in peace. We can all talk about it on the other side. Blessings to you.

I appreciate your attempt at well-wishing, and do not doubt your sincerity. However,
the way you talk, you must know more about God than Jesus Himself. Did you survive forty days' fasting in the desert, so fully dedicate yourself to teaching the people that you had to carve out time alone in the wee hours of the morning, heal the sick miraculously, turn water into wine when supplies ran short at a wedding celebration, walk on water, fulfil prophecy, give your life for the sins of the world, rise from the dead, ascend to heaven, and send the Holy Spirit? Were you there, as He was, at the Creation? Are you planning to ring down the curtain on history in the not-so-distant future? If not you, name one other person (or god) who has walked the earth who is so well qualified as Jesus is, to
save us from our sins, from our alienation from God and our mutual alienation, and to speak the truth with authority? He called Himself the Way, the Truth, and the Life, but in essence by you are calling Him a liar. If so, what are your grounds for doing so, other than the fact that His doctrine is not to your liking?
Call me cynical if you wish, but I do not believe that we are on a journey of understanding. No amount of technological progress can wipe out the inconstancy and viciousness and self-delusion which are characteristic of unredeemed humanity. We must hear some bad news before we can appreciate the Good News. (Romans 1: 20-22) 'For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divne nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they [mankind]
are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools......'. That is the Biblical verdict on human culture and religion, in whatever corner of the globe.

    • @JoniHankin
      @JoniHankin 7 лет назад

You are basing all of your faith on a document constructed for you by the government that continues to control your mind. The condemnations are meant to keep you in your place and never understand your true power. Even Jesus said we could/would do things greater than He. A few twisting of words and you have entire generations believing in an external savior coming to do the job we are supposed to be doing. We are 'Sons of God'...not decrepit sinners, it's just that religion keeps pounding it in that we are dogs, and so, act like dogs. Rise up, and be who Jesus said you could be.

      Joni Hankin
The last statement sounds good on the surface, but where is it coming from, from what spirit? Do you yourself call Jesus Lord? That is the acid test of whether you are telling the truth or not, because the works of Christ are there for all the world to see, and they prove Who He is. (1st John 2:22-23) 'Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.'
To what government are you referring? The state authority where I live is increasingly anti-Christian, even though freedom of worship still exists. So your theory flies in the face of facts.
It is a distortion of Christian teaching to say that human beings are mere animals, so I don't believe that, either. That is closer to the way that atheistic evolutionists think. We are created 'in the image of God', but are natural-born enemies of God because of sin. Christ died that we might be redeemed
and adopted again as sons of God. But we reap the benefits only by trusting Him. If there is another way to God besides Christ, then He died in vain; or, if He did not die for our sins and rise again, then our sins remain on the books forever, without any chance of forgiveness.

From the tower of babel people went different direction. God had a plan of why he did that. Trust in God the Creator. I'm Navajo and I often encounter a lot of questions and hear difficult things happening around the world. To my little faith of a mustard seed, the Gospel is our only Hope. Our Traditions of man has kept us bound. When Christ was on earth it took a sharp turn in history. Jesus was sentenced to death because he said he is the King of Jews. They thought he was talking about an earthly king. He came unto his own and his own receive him not. John 1:11-14. Also Mark 7:1-23. God's word. John 7:1-53. Jesus said in verse John 7:16" Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me". Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but fulfill. Matthew 5:22 But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of judgement: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the Council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Matthew 5: 57- 59. Thank you everyone! Personally I need God every single second of my life. God is true love. Just think about this. The air we breathe can dissipate into space, but God has provided all our needs. There has to be justice. Be your brothers keeper. God is waiting for you to receive him into your lives. Christ die in vain. Luke 5:31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. In verse 32 I come not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. So be it! Thank you God for everything!

Forgive me if I say something wrong brothers and sisters:
A sensitive topic like this can not be summarized into one video or one comment like this. The *acts* _committed against_ the Native Americans *were* wrong and I am pretty sure we can all agree on that. As many others below have stated the actions of our ancestors shouldn't superimposed on the descendants (us) and our beliefs. I am not going to say who is right and who is wrong, let God do that. Although, I will say this, if we are all of Good Spirit then let us forgive each other and our ancestors and rebuild our relationship together. Many were hurt physically, emotionally, and more back in those days. May God forgive us and our ancestors for our transgressions. We sinned against our Native American brothers and sisters. It is said in the Old Testament of The Holy Bible that “Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.” - Leviticus 19:18. Our neighbors in this situation were the Natives. They were *NOT* savages or a lesser people. They are human and deserve to be loved just as much as we love each other. God would have wanted us to be kind and loving towards them, though they are different we are still all children of God. We were brought forth from the Earth and we must also care for it. In the book of Genesis one of the main reasons humans were created was to be reflections of God's character out into the world (to love our neighbours, enemies, friends, family, and overall reflect the Goodness of God), to be representatives of God's rule over the Earth. To be representatives of God's rule over the Earth means to *HARNESS* all of creations *POTENTIAL,* to *CARE* for it, and to make it a place where even *more* _LIFE_ can *FLOURISH!*
As you know humans were given free choice over our decisions, free-will! Although, sadly it appears that our colonial ancestors were led astray and made a lot of bad decisions. So, please Indigenous peoples of the Americas, forgive us for we have sinned against you and your people! Let God be a witness of this, and let His will be *done.*

As being a part of a Native American tribe here in South Dakota.. my grandmother being full native on my mother's side, I can say that even though I don't know what that was fully like since I was born in 1987.. I can say that it of course is painful to think about the history of our people being murdered and forced from their ways with nothing but hate and selfishness. Today, I am a proud Christian. And I just hope you can find it in your heart to search for the TRUTH found in Jesus Christ, and the Holy scripture of the Bible. Christians didn't call themselves Christians in the beginning, but other people SEEN the way they were living like Jesus, and gave them the name. I love that. So many call themselves Christians today, and have for a long time but they aren't reading their Bibles, they don't have a relationship with God, they don't live with LOVE being a main quest, and they certainly aren't living by what God himself came down to Earth to model for us. I am very sorry that EVIL came in the Holy name of our Lord and twisted it into something it's not in your minds. Please know that those were not Christians. Jesus would of NEVER done that. Ever! This world is ran by Satan and he is the biggest deceiver of them all, coming only to seek, kill, and destroy. We don't realize we are being deceived usually because... Well.. deception is called deception for a reason, because it's DECEIVING! It breaks my heart that so many are turned from the true word of God because of the endless hypocrisy, selfishness, hate, and greed of humans that claim they come in the name of Jesus! I feel like this is why they used his name for so much destruction, is to make everyone hate it! Look around, everything in this world is ran on behalf of Satanism! Everything is meant to be blasphemous to God/Jesus, for they only want his name to be known as a swear word! They condition us to think anyone who believes in the Bible is a judgemental hypocrite. I pray people stop letting the evil ways of men come between who Jesus REALLY is. Look for yourself and pray asking for him to come into your heart and fill you with the Holy Spirit! Seek and you WILL find. Along with answers to the questions you think you already know.. such as the assumption that what we do in this life doesn't matter, because it's all about the one to come.. that is extremely NOT true! If the world were full of TRUE Christians, it would be a polar opposite of what it is now! Like Heaven on Earth! And while we don't praise creation, and instead praise the CREATOR of creation, that in no way means that we have full ground to destroy what God has so graciously given us. I love you, and I hope you find peace. I pray you find connection to the Creator of all, and find truth to see through the lies. You are fully known and loved by God, and he is all righteous. God bless you all!!

Unfortunately many mainline churches today seem stuck between a rock and a hard place, between adherence to ridiculous unscriptural traditions and feeble appeasement in a spirit of political correctness, when all they needed all along was to look to the Cornerstone. I do not believe that there is any false human doctrine or false religious practice which cannot be dissected and put to shame by application of God's Word and its principles. That certainly applies to trendy neo-paganism outside the church as well. Now let us beware hookups between 'liberationist' Christianity and neo-paganism,
leading to an increase in the number of recommended gods.

    • @cmaurand1
      @cmaurand1 7 лет назад

Given that the Pope apologized to indigenous peoples everywhere about the way the Catholic Church treated them, I would argue that the Catholic Church may be getting ready to end the Doctrine of Discovery. That's a good thing. You won't find me being that wary of neo-paganism. Neo-paganism tends to pick up where Christianity leaves off. Many Christians have forgotten what it is to be spiritual and sensitive to the matters of spirit.

    • @jesusislord4135

It would have been more apropos (and more spiritually sensitive) if Catholic 'authorities' had squeaked to the police about abuse cases long ago, but they protected their own rapists and pedophiles very well, shuffling them about. There should have been thousands of defrockings, civil imprisonments, and (by rights, if not necessarily in practice) executions. What use is an apology now,
beyond soothing some nerves? Apology and repentance, or apology and restitution, are not identical.
The 'doctrine of discovery' sounds typical of opportunistically devised perversions of the Romish persuasion (indulgences, in Luther's day, were another case in point). Catholicism is too rotten a system to be redeemed, granted that there have been sincere followers of Christ within its bosom, who perhaps cannot be blamed if they never knew anything but Catholicism. (To your point about the seven billion, we cannot be condemned for what we do not know, but for what we do know or sense, and do not do.) But on the basis of various statements this friar Bergoglio is a heretic, albeit very skilled in public relations.

Zu can you say more about why you feel this way? Hate and anger come from a persons heart. If you express that then you have it within you. You have the highest dignity of free will which could not have been given to you by any other means rather then freely. By your reaction and expression of free will you have proved that you do not have the capacity to live up to your own full potential. Even people who don’t like religion know that they have fallacies within them and they fall short because they are human. Christians believe that God has the right and authority to judge people perfectly because he is objective morality and goodness and perfectness. If he is to judge us all perfectly then he must have a place form people to go when they do not what to love him freely but the point is that you freely chose and you have that dignity. Even still you are loved enough to be given the option to chose and you cannot chose with your heart if the conditions of your heart are not good then you will not make a good decision. Christians are taught to have authority over their emotions because that’s actually what we have. We can chose and control how we address the conditions of our hearts. Christians believe that God is the God of all humankind and he DOES care about your heart and anxiety and relationships because He is essentially good by His nature. You don’t know Him clearly so how could we believe you when you speak against something good and out of your heart comes hate and anger or misunderstanding of essential goodness?

Finn Wraith, Christianity itself is fundamentally for anyone who accepts life, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is Western European culture and Greco-Roman ideals that gave us colonialism. I know you don’t know what you’re talking about, because Egypt was the first Roman province to fully convert to Christianity. The Christian message reached as far into Africa as Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa before the birth of Islam. There were Nubian Christian kingdoms who were involved in the first crusade for Jerusalem. ‘There is no Greek nor Jew, male or female, free or in bond.’ That’s the true nature of the Christian faith.

Even if we are from different people, we are all humans and if we are all humans that means we all come from the same seed and if we all come from the same seed then what else are we but brothers and sisters? Our Lord never teaches us to do evil towards others, but only good, even if you have different beliefs. My people have done a lot of damage and we are sorry for that, because that violent actions contradict the teachings of our Master. We are all humans and we are all invited to be part of Gods kingdom, not through domination but through love and peace. The true Good News are the Good News of peace, that in Jesus we can all be one through his blood, a new humanity that loves others, that lives in peace, that follows mercy and compasion, that cares for the land and make it flourish in love, that gives his life for others through service and a new humanity that is humble and modest. You are our brothers and sisters and you are always invited to be part of us but if you are not part of christianity, its ok, we are comanded to respect you and love you even unto death. So, Im so sorry for everything done to you. I am Pagan... a 74 year old Pagan High Priestess... (Teacher) Boy - do I understand this video and these speakers. I tell my fellow Pagans, it does us no service to denigrate and make light of the religions of others, no matter what they are... but it is really very difficult in view of the fact that Christianity and other like religions do not even think of us as a religion, in fact, they think we are morally corupt and have NO place in or on this earth. There was even a time, they tried to kill all of us. So it is hard to listen to this and not feel the pain of the speakers, the reality of the speakers knowledge and words as how it is and has been. Because I this, I have no affection for any religion that does not love the world and everything in it that has been given to us for safe keeping and stewardship. We are part of all of mankind, and all living things and all the heavens and the earth... So Above, as Below. Peace.

'Think' that you are morally corrupt? Not think it, but know it, but then 'all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.' And do you have a place on the earth? Well, you exist, don't you, for God has blessed you with (for I hope that you are still with us) 75 years of life, nothing to be sneezed at in terms of historical probability! The one true God be praised for that, for His mercy!
Most religion can very well be 'denigrated' as sin. God showed us how to worship Him and serve Him, and by what avenue we might come into fellowship with Him. If we ignore His warnings, given in lovingkindness, we are exposed to judgment. Do you think it's too formulaic, too 'narrow', to worship one God only, revealed in the flesh in a unique human individual?
But look at what Jesus did!!! Can anyone equal it? Or do you despise clarity?
Is smoke and obfuscation more to your religious taste?
Jesus said (John 3:13-15), 'No one has ascended into heaven, but He who
descended from heaven: the Son of Man. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must hte Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.'

I am not sure what you are trying to say in your post... That you are absolutely devoted to Christianity and Christ is pretty clear. That you respect my religion, less so. You do not seem to grasp that my religion is not only much older than yours, but means the same to us in terms of clarity, commitment and devotion. I am not morally corrupt my friend... but I see people who have no tolerance for the religion of others as horribly morally corrupt. Many of Your modern ministers tell you that to even consider the possibility of a religion outside the Abrahamic collection of religions is a sin and not to be tolerated.. but here we are and here we will stay. You flirt with the possibility of being associated with religions that still burn "witches" and try to disconnect Pagans (and other Non-Christian religions) - that's fine with me , but very sad and it does nothing to "clarify" the dogma and doctrine of your God. It simply makes the religion look mean spirited, intolerant, bigoted and small.. nothing at all that matches the omnipotence and magnanimous opinion you profess of your God. I have no feelings of morality or lack thereof for you nor do I care what religion you are... and I am very sorry that you think your religion is all there is... it is not - nor will it ever be... but that is something you have to deal with - it is not my problem. I have no desire to "Preach at you". and I will simply delete any other messages from you that are of that nature. On there other hand, if you'd like to discuss Paganism with me in a respectful manner let me know. other wise, you are wasting your time and mine.

I am glad that you answered back. It would be natural to conceive my previous post as an attack and your response as a counterattack, but I do not perceive either that way. I shall attempt to clear up a few misunderstandings, even though in your present state you will remain dissatisfied. Firstly, it is not a question of respect for another's beliefs (I certainly did not expect you to respect mine either), but of (a) truth revealed, not arrived at by human effort or calculation; and (b) the enormous value of human souls in the sight of God our Creator. I accept the statement that God 'desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.' Are you able to accept that? If so, it would be an appropriate starting-point for discussion of 'truth'.
Christians are frequently criticized, even condemned, for their 'exclusiveness'. There is a kind of clubbiness which is characteristic of unredeemed human nature, found in all sorts of social and religious groups. That is not what I am defending. I am not defending 'my religion' either, as though I had figured out the universe on my own (how ridiculous the thought!) or deserved any credit whatsoever for believing as I do. My personal faith is the gift of God to a wicked, nasty person who is too weak and foolish to cope without Him. So there! Even the apostle Paul, an exemplary and obviously loving man, considered himself 'chief among sinners.'
Christ said, 'It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the rightoues, but sinners.' Those who considered themselves good enough already didn't get along very well with Him.
But Christianity is by nature exclusive because: (a) repeatedly Jesus declared Himself to be the only way to God; (b) repeatedly He asserted His own divine origin, mission, and destiny. Concerning His identity He left no gray zones for interpretation, even though some pretend so. Beyond that, His coming, deeds, and authority are implicit in very many Old Testament passages, and a small but significant minority of Jewish people throughout history have recognized this.
But I would challenge you, on the basis of evidence presented in the four Gospels (to begin with), to tell me why you do not accept that He is uniquely God incarnate? Who has qualifications equal to His (sinless perfection,
as He was born without human male intervention; total magnanimity, total authority over disease and evil spirits, complete knowledge of human intentions)? Who else
has risen physically from the dead with a spiritual body, manifesting Himself to hundreds over a period of weeks, and ascended? In what other name are thousands healed miraculously, even today, and delivered from guilt and shame to lead productive lives? In short, who else has done as much good as He?

It's saddens me beyond belief what people have done in the name of Christ. Christianity as a religion is nothing to what The Creators Son envisioned. Capitalism isn't what Christ is about at all. Christ wants us to respect the earth he let us live in. Never to conquer it, but to embrace it and be thankful to Creator for it. Not to take too much, not to harm or kill unless for survival and be greatful for the sacrifice that Nature provides so that we may live. I see the story of Christ every time I cut into a piece of salmon. The only thing a Christian is meant to conquer is him or herself is the evil within all of us that is capable of hate and violence and more. To be a living, daily sacrifice of self and allow The Creator to flow freely through you so that then you are shown who you were truly born to be. That's what my prayers and heart say. My The Love of The First Spirit of All bless you and keep you close.🙏♥️🫂

What is there to understand, apart from acknowledging natural feelings of resentment? Those feelings are not unique to indigenous people and their historical situation. They are part of the human condition, which can be resolved and healed only by surrendering our lives to the care of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now Jesus warned us not to expect the forgiveness of God if we are unwilling also to forgive others. That is a hard message, but He makes it possible to accept this when we receive the Holy Spirit.
If you take this as an attempt to justify the abuses of colonialism, you are way off base. God is impartial, and he hears the cry of the afflicted. It says so over and over in Holy Scripture. But the afflicted may not cry often enough, because they don't want His company very much. Yet God's invitation in Christ is a great opportunity for indigenous peoples, by which their past misfortunes may be redeemed and turned to good account. You see, there really is very much which is wicked and godless in Western capitalism and imperialism, only one has to criticize it from the correct angle in order for the criticism to have power. And the critic who cannot also take criticism without losing his bearings won't get very far.
