Tough decision. Whiplash clearly was more in control during this fight, but also clearly took more damage. I can understand the split decisions, and while Whiplash surely deserved the win, I would have given it to Monsoon for causing more damage

You don't get full damage points without shutting down a weapon. If they'd pushed and made sure of the weapon, the fight would have been theirs-it would have given them aggression and damage points. As it was, when they should have been dominating because Whiplash had no damage output-Monsoon held back.

I honestly thought this was a win for monsoon. Whiplash did little to no damage, but monsoon just tore apart the front side of whiplash. Whiplash didn’t even have a working weapon for half the fight.
(Edit: I do understand whiplash had more control, but it was mainly during the beginning. Monsoons powerful weapon did have some say in the control as well. It was a really close fight though. Whiplash is hard to outdrive.)

Damage: 3-2 or 4-1 for Monsoon - Whiplash had a functional weapon, but reduced effectiveness on its defense (forks) and drive. Monsoon looked like it had some drive trouble towards the end, but it's hard to tell.
Aggression: 2-1 Monsoon - Both bots attempted a lot of attacks, but Whiplash hardly ever used its primary weapon.
Control: Easy 0-3 for Whiplash - it consistently controlled the fight and could maneuver around Monsoon's blade.
Add it up and it's either a 5-6 or a 6-5, depending on how badly damaged Monsoon was at the end, so yeah, split decision sounds right.

My scorecard for the match, in my opinion:
Damage: 3-2 in favour of monsoon, they did the greater amount of damage yes, but even losing a side of drive didn't have too great of an impact on Whiplash's maneuvourability.
Aggression 1-2 in favour of Whiplash, the majority of engagement was them initiating and therefore being aggressive. The lifter is far more the primary weapon, and Whiplash continued to attempt to make use of it in the fight.
Control: 0-3 in favour of Whiplash, they were all over Monsoon and pretty much dictated where the fight was, consistantly using the short corners to cut down the options for maneuvours by Monsoon, and trying to stay to the sides of the weapon.
    Final score: 4-7 Whiplash
And that's from someone who supported Monsoon.

    Whiplash won the match.
To say that Whiplash has done no damage is disingenuous, Whiplash left scratches, bent a couple forks and in 9:42 , *Monsoon was limping in curves* . It's less blatant than Whiplash loss of drive since Whiplash is faster. Whiplash also got under Monsoon many many times, Monsoon literally *could not do anything else but face their spinners towards Whiplash.* Monsoon definitely won on damage.
We never got to see the close up shots of damage to Monsoon's underbelly either either. Whiplash *bullied* Monsoon throughout, it dodged a few hits but never ran away. Its weapon can still spin up towards the end of the match. You're *bound to get hit* when you have to be aggressive against a big reach spinner like Monsoon.
*Whiplash has lost a side drive and is still dominating Monsoon.*
Ps. Whiplash's primary weapon is the lifter and it has gotten lifts. Whiplash has also used its spinner to some extent.

@@Frosty_tha_Snowman It is a matter of which is more aggressive, the judges have to distribute 3 points between the two bots for aggression so if it is close it will be 2-1 either way, and if a bot is clearly more aggressive then it will be 3-0 to the aggressive bot. It was very close on aggression in this fight but I think the speed of Whiplash made it stand out as more aggressive.

@@Retrosicotte Nah both bots clearly had drive and weapon issues at the end of the fight so they would have been pretty even on damage there, so it was only really some non-critical armour on whiplash that was the difference so I'd definitely go with 3-2 in favour of Monsoon. The difference in damage between them wasn't worthy of a 4-1, Monsoon would have needed to be in better shape to justify a 4-1. Maybe if the weapon was able to get up to speed or if they still had full mobility I'd agree with a 4-1, but they were in pretty rough shape just like whiplash, but whiplash also have that top plate ripped up a bit. A 4-1 would also have been justified if they had completely disabled the weapon on Whiplash, but it was still somewhat working so a 3-2 is definitely more fitting.

Though it did more damage than Whiplash, the damage Monsoon did was mostly superficial and did not actually affect Whiplash's ability to control the fight, which it did, and proved to be the more aggressive of the two. Watching the fight, it is a Whiplash win.
Whenever they traded blows, whiplash determined where they went and how long they fought. Even without their spinner they were pushing Monsoon into the hazards around the ring and avoiding any really big hits.
Monsoon was able to get some good damage, but the way whiplash is built prevents it from being easily taken out with only back hits being a good way to get damage that would disable the mobility and cause a countdown.
In the end, Whiplash just had the better maneuverability and power to keep the fight under control while monsoon was getting partially tipped with every collision so they couldn't bring their full power to the fight.

I maintain Monsoon should have won, they used their main weapon the entire fight, bent Whiplashes forks, tore up from of the top armour.. The only thing I think Whiplash won on was Control..
As an aside, Monsoon always seems to have more luck with the solid plow front

  • @Archon1995

Each point is worth as much as the others. Damage is more valuable because there are more Damage points up for grabs (5) than for Aggression and Control (3 each). You need six total points to win a judge's scoring. Whiplash got at least 2 points each on Aggression and Control, so only needed 2 more points. Monsoon did take damage (drive train trouble at minimum), so that's at least one more point.
Whiplash only needed one more point to win a judge's card, and two judges felt they earned that point.

Definitely a unanimous Whiplash decision with the judging matrix system we have. In previous seasons it would have gone to Monsoon solely on damage and weapon usage.

Think it came down to how the damage points and aggression were distributed. Whiplash could've been awarded more aggression points than Monsoon so they could've won 6-5 on the cards

Per the judges own guide on the Battlebots website, Monsoon won. They got it utterly wrong here. Using the official Judges guide's definitions it is:
    Damage: 4-1 to Monsoon
Aggression: 2-1 to Monsoon (potential 1-2 to Whiplash)
    Control: 2-1 to Whiplash.
Whichever way Aggression goes, Monsoon still wins.

    • @mikejunt

I don't really think its hard to see how control could go 3-0 to whiplash and result in a 6-5 for whiplash here. Monsoon really doesn't control the fight in any way - everything happens on Whiplash's terms

    • @Retrosicotte
      @Retrosicotte Год назад

@@mikejunt per the actual guide, control being 3-0 defines a match where the 0 bot has basically no control over their own bot's purposes at all, which one cannot say was the case.

  • @NaturalHigh21
    @NaturalHigh21 Год назад

I think it all comes down to whether Whiplash deserves 2 control points or all 3. Monsoon clearly wins damage 4-1, and aggression should be split 2-1. As long as you win 4 damage points, to win, all you have to do is get two more points. I can also see Monsoon getting 2 aggression points because Whiplash did intentionally have their weapon off

You can’t really argue whiplash had more control of the fight. Whiplash by default had more control of the fight because of the the way it’s build. It’s less likely to be tossed around. Because I think monsoon overall did better. I don’t like the way they scored this. The whiplash team look’s surprised they won and the monsoon team looks disappointed they didn’t win.
