Southerners have always been jealous of Northern Soul Scene, The twisted wheel in Manchester kicked it off by having the odd night playing RnB dancers, Which became popular so they started having regular soul nights. And so a unique scene was born. Meanwhile, the South was playing funk & disco ......
Theres phil at 3.44 doin something very few if any at all can or would even attempt and thats to backspin . Go on ,try it ! And stay in tempo with the music , which phil does all the time every time ! Top lad
@@himagain803 Many soul R+B and Blues acts played at the Cavern Club and others in Liverpool in the 60ts . In the 70ts the seen turned in to Funk and Northern Soul was played in the surrounding areas
@@colindayo You could say it started in America but as it says on the tin its Northern. It was the up tempo soul played in the North. I know the more mid tempo tunes are played now but that wasnt the case when the term Northern Soul was born not just 60ts soul which is classed as Northern nowadays
@@bluenose007 I hear ya. I think the point they are making is that the first R&B clubs were mainly in London. As an aside, I could make a good argument that it should have been called Midlands Soul!
Thank the LORD! someone has finally mentioned on camera that the soul scene that came to know as Northern Soul actually began in the south and London. Great film by the way, thank you!
Loved this film Lucy, nice to see younger people who have discovered the scene and bringing alive the dancing as only younger people can. Us older fans can only look on in envy of the snappy dancers and pride that we were once as nimble as them! 😀
And also you included my favourite record of all time - A little togetherness 😀
