I walk Staten Island's Richmond Avenue on a gorgeous (but windy) autumn day from the Eltingville Staten Island Railway Station to the Staten Island Mall in Heartland Village. Eltingville is also home to the Eltingville Transit Center.

"Eltingville is a neighborhood in the Staten Island borough of New York City, United States. It is located on Staten Island's South Shore, immediately to the south of Great Kills and north of Annadale. The main commercial area of Eltingville extends down Richmond Avenue, with offshoots heading north on Amboy Road and Hylan Boulevard. Eltingville is represented in the New York City Council by Joe Borelli."

Oh man, this is such a memory lane trip. I've walked this stretch of road dozens of times over the years. I grew up one town over in Annadale.

Thanks for the interesting walk! About 150 years ago, my ancestors had a house where the SI Mall now stands.
Born and raised in Eltingville, and have made portions of that walk probably a couple thousand times.
These videos are weirdly addicting now lol. Staten Island reminds me of where I grew up in Toronto. This is the only borough I never ventured out to.

SI born and raised, never had the chance to actually walk that stretch of Richmond Ave. Drove it a thousand times but I’m a north shore boy who only walked thru my old hoods.

OMG, OMG, OMG I searched for something about Staten Island to show my friends in Oklahoma. This video really hit the nail on the head. The photographer is leaving the train station and traveling ti the right. I was hoping he/she would pass by my school PS 42 and yes! I am making a trip to visit my childhood friend and even though she is now in South Amboy, NJ (a few miles away) both of us grew up in Eltingville and I am sure she will take me there. I lived in the house by the gas station at Richmond and Amboy Rd. but it was torn down and Santander Bank or a smaller business next to it stands there now. If the walker had turned left under the railroad bridge continuing on the same side of the street, they would have passed where my house was. I know it's probably too much info, but I am making the trip because I am on Hospice and it makes me so happy to see this and show my friends that there is no horrible menacing neighborhood there.

According to a New York Daily News article (27/7/2017) there is about 70 Staten Island neighborhoods. So there is probably divergent aesthetic neighborhood settings.
There is no better place to grow up but Staten Island. NYC is a bus ride away or a bridge and tunnel, there are beaches on all side of us plus one you don’t have to travel far for, Great Adventure season passes for the summer,etc the list is endless and life was incredible growing here. I grew up here in Eltingville in Staten Island. The best area to me to grow up was by P.S. 55 park. It was the best in the 80’s and early 90’s but they flipped it and to me it’s nothing like when I was a kid. It had the best layout. It had an upper and lower levels that had long steps and down the back was a stadium type hideaway with a handball court. The upper level had huge cement fruit to climb on, two swing set spots the old black hard set you could stand on, monkey bars, lower was a full basketball court with a side hoop slightly lower. It was great and it was enclosed by about an 8 foot thick raw iron fence. It was such a safe feeling to be able to play and hangout with friends.

You passed my house. Right off Richmond Avenue. Moved 5 years ago...but still on Staten Island...just downsized as an empty nester. The sideblocks off Richmond Avenue are nicer than Richmond noiser Avenue for those watching.
I least think about Staten Island as a borough but there are some pretty areas in Staten Island especially, this area as well as Huguenot, Tottenville and Todt Hill but there are other nice areas as well. Lovely place to take your bicycle next time too. LOL :)

@@ActionKid My life consists of weird moments. We horsed around a lot back then. The staff thought I was being mugged when my friends tossed me in the hedges next to the diner. We drove away with me in the trunk as the cops arrived. Fun times!

Architecture is very different to south London England 🏴 for example name few areas in London Borough of Lambeth Brixton Streatham norbury buildings here especially when u head in Streatham and norbury just in London Borough of Croydon mainly you have red brick buildings built 19 century

I know this was 3 years ago but doing this on bike or e-scooter you could have covered more territory. Staten Island most be the nicest and safest of the 5 boroughs.
we need to come clean and just say it.... we have the best fresh ravioli's in New York ..... since i was a kid mom was going to Pastosa..... it was smaller back then though ..... before they took the entire spot.... it was a hole in the wall... every year my birthday would come around..... she would ask what I wanted for dinner..... it always ... They are all working. Buses picked them up early to get to the City. Or left early driving to Jersey.

Like any good NYer, he crosses against the red light. Had to break myself of that habit when I moved out west. Cops here don’t put up with that 😂

Staten Island has changed a lot. It’s called greedy builders
That entire area has been mostly built out by the early 70s, with the only large parcel left in the area over by Leverett, and that was completely built out by the 92. There has been any real development in this area in decades.

It depends, it they bought housing there before real estate prices started to seriously outpace inflation, then no. Today though? I just checked zillow, and the cheapest house along his walk within a block of richmond avenue is 499k. Most are significantly more, and several are over a million. This is why so many detached single family homes in the area are "mother/daughter" houses - the homeowners need that rental income to help pay the $2000+/ mo mortgage.
