Yeah i lived in staten Island most my life, and it pretty more "jersey style" than your urban NYC style. At least the more southern part of SI is Like of you look at Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, and Manhattan, those are all super urban, but like i said, SI is alot more suburb
I like the structure of SI homes! It looks cold but a beautiful sunny day sure does brings in all of the natural sun light!! Thank you for bringing us along on your awesome walking tours!! 🌞
I was thinking the same, as I could kick myself now for not visiting the south pole. I used to live on Staten Island, for over 20 years, but I was far up north. I see this video and wish I went where he just walked. I used to live upstate NY back in the 1980s (as a child) and loved playing in the snow! Seeing him walking in the snow was really nice. Now I am in Virginia, where it rarely snows. :/ You're in Norway now? Wow. That's a big move... :O
@@Josephistry I lived on Rockaway Street. At that time, the crossroads (as we called Billopp and Claremont -- did I spell those correctly?) were dirt streets.
Just watched this on Oct 26 2019 What a amazing thing you did in those weather conditions to film a video for us . I admire you . I have watch tons of your other videos and then poking around your site I found this . You will probably never read this but . Congratulations on your finding New York’s Southern Pole !!!!!! You looked very proud !!!
BRRRRRRR!!! Fantastic video. I use to live in Staten Island from 1947 -1964. Tottenville is like a suburb of Staten Island. I'm glad you took the Staten Island Raiiway. There's nothing like the train. Keep up the excellent work.
I came here from your Top 10 for 50,000 subscribers, and I can definitely see why this is one of your favorites. I've done essentially the same walk in summer, but it's fascinating to see it in winter. I'd suggest that you come back in summer and tour the Conference House, which is one of the oldest buildings in New York and is fascinating.
This is my old neighborhood, lived on Johnson Avenue. Sledge riding around the park area and the T- Bridge right on the bottom of Johnson Avenue and Arthur kill road.
I use to live there. Thanks buddy! 💕 I live in Utah now. I own my own home here. I heard that it’s soooo expensive out there. Love yeah, for taking me down memory lane! ☺️
Hey action kid. This is probably my most favorite video of yours. I remember the first time i watched it. It is so adventurous and even scary at times. I thought you might come across a gangster burying a dead body. Maybe you could take us back here in the summer, when its much warmer.
This is a very cool video! ) It was pretty exciting to check those 'forgotten' parts of NYC. It would be really great if you could make this route again in spring or summer time, I believe the whole place with the nice hoods and parks will appear in all it's beauty then :). NY south pole in winter looks almost like it's actual prototype)). That thing with a bus button was really cool never seen anything like this before). And I was pretty surprised to see NYPD cars, cause I almost forgot that we're still within the city limits)).
I was hoping that Visitor's Center might have a cup of hot tea, coffee or cocoa for you. And I was worried that you might slip and fall, since there were spots that looked icy.
moste amazing video i am waching from 12000 miles away and i love usa, with this kinde of videos i cann finde out more about what and how is there thank you for uploading such videous
Came here from your top ten recommendation today. Honestly, my perception of Staten Island is only from the Staten Island Expressway. Actually a very nice community. You discovering the south pole of NY State was very cool. Video made me happy, as my perception of Station Island from what I had seen was entirely inaccurate. Thanks, ActionKid.
Most of Staten Island is very nice, except some areas up north. My mother and grandparents said it was way nicer back in the 1960s. Especially before they built the Verrazzano bridge. :P
Lived just across the River from hyland boulevard on Arthur Kill . John Adams and Rutledge went to the Conference House by boat from Perth Amboy,. You want to be cautious on the beach by wards.. My Mom told me about Quicksand..
I thought it was gonna get dark on you. I would have called someone to come pick me up. Was any of that area of the south pole damaged from super storm Sandy?
No he didn't walk the whole island. He walked from the last stop on the Staten Island Railway (the southernmost stop) to the southern tip of Staten Island in the neighborhood of Tottenville. Staten Island isn't the largest borough of New York City, but it is big, and it would take him several hours to walk from one end of it to the other.
For a while one only paid at Tottenville and St. George. Then people got off off at Tompkinsville and walked to avoid the fare. Then one paid at those three stations. Don't know what it is like now.
I presume that Tottenville (Staten Isand) is the westernmost neighborhood?. Coney Island (Brooklyn) is the southermost neighborhood?. The northernmost neighborhood Wakefield (Bronx) and easternmost neighborhood Glen Oaks (Queens).
@@monalisasmile7179 Don't listen to him. There was no reason to call it that. Most of Staten Island is _really_ nice. The few exceptions are located way up north.

i remenber the good old days when it snowed in nyc
I walk here almost everyday. Every season is beautiful! There are so many beautiful areas on the island.
That was amazing...to see the Ocean frozen...wow
I know! That was one of the most incredible sights I saw in my life!
I grew up on the Kill and I've always wanted to know where the Ocean begins from the Raritan Bay. The name of the Lighthouse in the Bay is Great Beds . My Great Uncle was an Oyster Fisherman.
Just the edges on the the beach is frozen. The rest is still open water.
Amazing! Hard to believe this is NYC. I live on Long Island, the "suburbs", and it's more urban than this. What a beautiful place Staten Island is!
That’s cuz Staten Island is actually part of Jersey contrary to what people believe
@@eddiew2325 I agree with those type of thoughts though since Staten Island really feels out of place for nyc or ny in general

Staen Island has a blend of Jersey and South Brooklyn vibes. The Northern part of the boro feels like Bay Ridge Brooklyn.
Nothing like Staten Island in the winter. ☃️💜

Just discovered your channel. Thanks for posting the interesting Staten Island videos. I loved their zoo.
I would love to see more of Staten Island! Apparently known for its parks? "the borough of parks"
Wow, a frozen ocean, the south pole of NYC, who knew. Thanks for taking this very cold walk. Stay safe.
I grew up there, went to PS 1 (teachers insisted we write it P. S. 1, R. -- Richmond) I recognize some of the buildings on Main Street.
Hi Margie. I also attended PS1 and then IS-34.
I lived on Yetman avenue. Watching you walk through there just makes me feel like I’m at home again

The term forgotten borough was started when hurricane Sandy hit Staten Island and no one began to help the borough until months after.

Any chance of a walkthrough of Eltingville in Staten Island?
Possibly!
Good video. Amazing neighborhood.
tottenville is famous for their tator tots
I am sure that Tottenville looks different today from the time when I lived near there in Pleasant Plains in the 40s and 50s.

Even though Staten Island is cut off from the rest. It is still up to date with everyday living and services!
Except public transportation

I’m not sure if the area was damaged or not. Most likely because it’s right by the water. That storm had far reaching impacts.
Muito bonito esse bairro
You know you have walkers your butt off in Staten Island New York I said Lord he's really out in the snow on top of it I feel for you
SUPER GREAT VID

Very nice sleepy little town, should be kept that way. Would be a shame if someone disturbed the peace by false rumors.
NYC is sad and depressing during the winter ⛄❄
Is that Pete Davidson walking in front of you at the beginning? 👀
Why is the train free unless you get off at the last stop?
It’s a cost cutting measure for the MTA - they don’t need to install the machines or employ additional station agents.
For a while one only paid at Tottenville and St. George. Then people got off off at Tompkinsville and walked to avoid the fare. Then one paid at those three stations. Don't know what it is like now.

And in Poland it is still rainy.
Fun fact: Tottenville is the southernmost point of New York state itself
Not really I just found it’s actually located at the southern end so you’re wrong
Southwestern most tip . Southern most tip is 180 degrees that would be located at Hylan Blvd at the Mount Loretto Unique Area
@@Robconnors7253 hi rob let me clarify something. its actually Hymen Blvd not Hylan
