- Coated steel plates in a slick carrier makes for one of the cheapest ways into body armor. While not ideal, it definitely serves a number of people who otherwise would have no protection. Here we do a little limited testing of them against the problems we find with most steel plates, m193 and spall.
Check them out here:

It sure as hell beats a 7.62 going into your lungs. I have a coated spartan armor plate I keep behind my head rest on my crown Vic. If I get a rifle threat call, I’ll insert it into my vest, and at all other times, my head is protected from the rear from level 3 rated threats
I've actually never heard of that but it's totally genius! Easy access for when you need it, and can't get domed in a rearward ambush. Hats off to you sir!
That's either a very small plate, or a huge head rest.
And now I have a half cage car and this doesn’t work :(. Guess I’ll just get shot in the head

Damn, talk about paranoia 😅
Good video as always!
Sweet 👍👍 I'll check them out
Hey ! Merry 🎄 2 u & your family 🎄
So the steel might be better than nothing? Even if not ideal? (as someone who fell for the steel meme before I knew better)

It's not a meme. It does suck
@@ChevTecGroup I know it really does suck. When I say steel meme, I Mean it's a meme in the sense that it's potential quality is a meme in the sense that a meme is a mind virus that can mislead people.
Good vid. Build up coatings provide better spall protection, and are recommended. It'd be nice to see how many rounds it takes to render a buildup coating ineffective, and then it'd be good to compare that to how many rounds it would take to defeat ceramic plates. I'd wager that the numbers are pretty close.
The way I look at it is if I take enough shots in my rifle plate to make the coating fail I've really messed up and a little spalling is the least of my problems. I'm thinking the same goes for ceramic plates, lol. I would be interested to see a test done though.
Look up flex seal sprayed on plates.. Very interesting.
@@chrisjones6002 And the difference is, if you survive that incident, then you just need a relatively inexpensive batch of materials to get the steel plate back to operational status. The ceramic plate on the other hand, on top of being much more expensive from the start, now needs to be completely replaced, which might not even be possible. On top of that rough handling could crack ceramics and compromise tgeir protection. Not so with steel.

Good vid, Tommy
I think a little too much is made of the spalling. Yes, it's bad and I wouldn't want to get hit with it. However, if I have to choose between and uncoated steel plate causing spalling and a rifle round in my chest it's a pretty easy decision. Ideally of course I'd rather not get shot at, lol.
Spalling under the chin has potential to sever major arteries.
@@Outlander.-. which ones are in your chin?
Wrap steel plate with ballistic grade kevlar at least 4 times i prefer 195 or 200 kevlar, cover kevlar and plate with 2 well made spall protectors... no reason to worry about spall anymore unless you stand in front of a mini gun.
@@austinporter4285 😂nothing stops that m134 for long
Can’t find this plate on their website
If it isn't Tactical it sucks right?
When you start applying to police departments, how do you know which one is right for you?
The one with a pay check that is as large as possible and doesn't bounce.
free field training lol
Love it. Thanks man. 😂
Unless you only want to work for one because of some strange love of a department that will sooner or later let you down take whom ever offers you a job to get in the door. Then after you are trained and have a few years on you can be more picky. If anything, apply to the ones you really want first and get in the process then if nothing comes of it and your secondary or 15th choices come in take it and don't look back.
That coating looks like it's very thin.
They better double dip mine like they do at KFC 🍗 😆
should have used a cardboard box and same distance as uncoated test
Hi I'm new, to your channel
Hello Ms. Anderson, nice to meet you
ouch!
Whether or not it penetrates through that wood isnt a very good indicator of what it would do to human flesh which is a lot softer. Ceramic ftw.
a double tap of 762 would cause so much back face deformation your fucked.
Try shooting steel plates at an angle to see how much steep plates will get you killed

@@ChevTecGroup @ 2 minutes and 50 seconds that ceramic plate clipped that watermelon bud, might wanna analyze these sneaky roach ceramic shills videos before you post
@@keanazablan6331 there's a big difference between ceramic splatter and bullet ricochet. There is a reason no militaries use ar500 armor. And when steel is used, it isn't just sprayed with truck bed paint.
There is no reason to use steel armor in 2021, or for the last decade. It's not cheaper, it's not stronger, it's not lighter, and it's not good armor.
This is ridiculous. Our skins are not as tough as pine box. What doesn't penetrate pine box can still tear through flesh
How are you the only person who pointed this out
That coating is a joke.
