Sorry if I just missed it.... but how far in did you drill into the concrete? Did you drill about the same length as the expansion anchor? Should we drill a little more? Or should we drill a little less and hammer in the anchor? No experience with masonry work and trying not to sound too stupid. Also, would it be okay to use an impact driver to drive down the screws? Or would that be too much power? Great video by the way. I'm just a guy trying to learn.

@@reymundpalatan6518 you should drill deeper than the anchor. About 1/4 inch. Vacuum all the dust out. Use hammer drill if possible as you are drilling in concrete. You can try with impact but make sure you use masonry bit. I believe instructions are included. The kit is a crazy value because it includes the adjustable wrench and drill bit. Drill a practice hole first and drill as straight as possible. Some folks drill first and assemble on the fly. I assembled first and positioned the railing where I want it installed. Helpful to have someone hold the railing while you are marking the hold for the anchor. Not rocket science and I’m sure you can do it. Feel free to ask.

Thank you so much for the reply. I have a hammer drill (just not with the sds) so i'll be using that to drill the holes. Thank you for the comparison of using a 1/2" masonry bit. And i will definitely drill deeper than the anchor. But would it be okay to use an impact driver for the screw instead of using a ratchet?

@@reymundpalatan6518 a ratchet gives you better control as an impact might screw the bolt in so quickly you might loosen the anchor and the whole thing, bolt and anchor, will just spin without gripping. I’m sure pros who do it all the time can use impact driver. Whenever I use Tapcon concrete screws, I can never make it work as the screw just spin in the predrilled holes (using bit that came with screws). You can use impact driver to start but with the last few turns, using a regular or ratchet wrench.

Thank you for the reply again. Sounds good. Ill definitely just use the ratchet then. There's definitely a small concern on my end with the anchor loosening if using a power tool.

Nice work, that will be there until the cows comes home, or until they raise your taxes.

Thank you Sir. Lived there for almost 40 years without the railing but the need for one now is more apparent.

Use painters tape to hold base cover up while working on installing base.
