2:57 for first problem 6:35 for second 7:44 for third I have a 2011, and am looking at a lot of used 2014-2018s in my area, but might skip that generation altogether and wait a couple years for the 2019 to drop in value to $30k used.
Meh these are minor issues that will be covered by warranty and are not guaranteed to happen, chances are you likely will have no issues for a long time. But if you're going to get a diesel, definitely delete it. Not only do you get a 2-4 MPG gain but you get better performance and it is a lot better for your motor so it will last longer, I would also tune it if you can afford it, will also give MPG gains and slightly better performance.
I have had a '14 since they came out and i have 110k km on it. Only got a A.C. problem last summer after my dealer replaced the rad and fought with them to fix it and they refused. Was pretty pissed since I have gotten 3 people to buy one of these one guy bought 2.
I have 94k kilometers on my 2015 Crew Cab LTZ Silverado. Absolutely love it. I did have a horrible squeeky noise when switching between V4 and V8 which I learned it was from the exhaust flapper. The dealership initially didnt know what it was so they tried different things which didnt work. Eventually a GM bulletin came out and the dealer replaced the whole exhaust and problem was solved. I see the dealerships and services are becoming much better. Issues are common in any machine. This is a great truck, take care of it, it will take care of you for many years....Thanks for your video
I want to add to another issue that I've found with my 2014 sierra. When you change the in Cabin Air Filter behind the glove box, it is almost guaranteed that leaves and other debris will fall from the filter housing down into the blower motor cause it to have a terrible vent noise (like a prop plane departing). The blower motor wasnt the easiest task to remove either. Some of the bolts on the kick plate under the dash are not bad to remove, but installing them again is a royal pain. Tip that I have found us to slide a piece of cardboard under the cabin filter before removing.
The907alaska I changed cabin filters on these trucks constantly as my job earlier in my career. It’s no big deal to get leaves out of the blower motor. Just jam your arm in the hole and take them out. Or use a vaccum. Turn the blower on before you put the filter in and listen for the noise
Easy fix to that ... After you pull the filter out out the camera on on your phone poke it in the blower and check the footage , secondly of you do have any leaves that made their way in . Get a small shop vac and adapt a small hose to it and fish the leaves out that way ... No need to remove the blower ....
My son-in-law picked up his newish 2014 Silverado LTZ last night with 80,000 miles. Mint condition, meticulously maintained and a clean Carfax. 12/23/20.
I have an ac problem. I think it’s my condenser on the same spot as yours. I have to put dye in to confirm. Another problem worth mentioning on these trucks is the torque inverter goes out. I know quite a few people who own one and most have had this happen. I think the v4 to v8 switching has something to do with it..so I turned mine off.
@@damon323 you have to get a small module to plug into your obd port. They’re about $200. Or you can have someone do it in the ecm but I think that’s a bit complicated.
one thing I've heard for these trucks is that an oil separator, basically a catch can is a great investment! head a ton of headlight and AC problems as well but for preventative maintenance an oil separator seems like a good deal haha
Alot of these issues are for specifically the 2014 . That's why they say never buy the first year of a refresh or redesign . My 2015 has had none of these problems. Buy a 2018 and you can be confident that you won't worry about any of these issues
Justin Mozee . You must have gotta one where they stared to fix the issues. Also I have yet to see a 2014 with rust at all . Iat least where I live (western Canada) . Maybe people are having rust issues elsewhere?
I have a 14 Silverado. It has 83,000 miles on the original tires and I deflate them often for off roading. I haven't had the AC issue but have read about it. The ONLY problem was Ball joints at 57,000 miles from all the off roading, I got the dealer to warranty them. I average between 21.6 and 23.2 MPG on the express way. I can tow two quad's and average an Ecoboosts mpg with their trucks empty. I would highly recommend one. My truck has been great!!
Dustin T it was stupid for the next generation Chevy trucks didn't have them. ram and ford trucks have them chevy finally brought them back for 2019they shouldn't have took them out in the first place
I have a ‘14 Chevy lt double cab, 5.3l 4x4. Bought it new in spring of 14. Have 99,800 miles on it as of today. I would say it’s the world’s most ok truck. I’ve had about 14 recalls on it. I’ve had problems with the infotainment system off and on, had the throttle body go bad on a road trip, shattered the front differential while trying to pull my neighbor’s 3/4 ton chevy out of a 4 ft snow drift. The positive side: my ac works fine, but don’t use it much in Montana. This thing still handles great even with 100k miles on it. Tows pretty well. Took a 32 ft toy hauler from Montana to the Oregon coast that weighed in at 9,600lbs. Does incredibly well off road during hunting season. Have the diablo tuner on with the afm turned off, as it’s useless here in the Rocky Mountains, cold air intake and cat-back exhaust. Going to run it a couple more years then probably go back to a Trunda. It’s been the best non- Toyota truck I’ve had. Will never touch a dodge again.
On my 2014 Silverado, 5.3L, I definitely have had the issue with my steering. I did get it fixed, when recalled. I currently have the issue with the a/c. Very good video. Thank you for sharing.
Bought my 2014 Silverado 4x4 LTZ brand new...never had any of these issues. Still runs/looks brand new. AC still ice cold, 5.3L strong, hideously quiet rolling down the road. Earlier this spring added a 2" front leveling kit (1" under the strut spacer deals), some AAL's in the back, and one size taller Michelin LTX AT2 tires (same width). Now the truck "looks" correct and rides smoother. It does kick down into "4-cylinder" mode more often now...and lugs. Never was a fan of that cylinder deactivation deal. My 2011 Silverado had that too.
I have a 2014 Silverado 1500. I bought mine about a year and a half ago with $139,000 mi on it I now have about $146,000 mi on it. Since I've had the truck, I did replace the leaf spring hangers and the leaf spring shackles. It was a fleet truck, and more than likely there was a heavy load or two which caused one of my hangers to break. Also more recently I did replace both the upper control and lower control arms as well as the outer tie rod ends. When I get new tires, that is when I will have the alignment performed. The other thing that I did end up doing on this truck deals with I believe it was the evac system. I could not feel my truck without it wanting to shut the gas nozzle off automatically. Ultimately I ended up replacing the gas cap, the solenoid under the hood, the switch at the frame rail, and the final Factor was the activated charcoal filter at the frame rail near the gas tank. This seems to have fixed my issue other than this, I have not had any issues with this truck. We shall see what a shop says when I bring it in for alignment.
I had the same issue with filling up gas on my 2014 gmc sierra 5.3L. The check engine light came on po446. I replaced the vapor charcoal cannister and it solved the problem. I'm currently having an issue with my horn not working tho. Any helpful information would be great
Replaced my battery at 30k. Couldn't find the drain. Replaced my AC condenser at 60k. Replaced my starter at 70k. Still having draining issues causing horrific engine start ups, light dimming, turns radio on/off, locks and unlocks doors while driving, stabilitrak issues constantly, traction control issues constantly.
Dustin T .... I have an appt for Tuesday this week. Will drop it off early and show videos of what I've gone through. Even the steering wheel jerks, AND WHILE DRIVING. It had died, while on the turnpike, on several occasions. That's life threatening.
I have a 2014 Chevy pearl white high country. Beautiful interior and exterior. Was not a huge fan of Chevy trucks no offense but when I saw this I fell in love and I bought it and decided to check out this video in the process LOL
ive got a 2014 with the 4.3 v6 and it burns oil like crazy, first time i noticed it was about 25K miles my oil light came on and i still had 30% showing before my next oil change, checked the dip stick and it was completely dry, took 4 quarts to get back to where it should. i took it to the dealer and they said that much oil consumption is normal which blows my mind. i had a 94 silverado that didn't leak or burn a drop but this new one goes through it like crazy.
Thanks, I think I need to take mine in for the power steering issue cause certain turns I make while driving at over 30mphs on the E-way cause a slight lock. I thought it was tires but tires have been changed and still the problem persists. I did however have the issue with the AC and had to get the whole system replaced, costed $1500 but has been working fine since. There is another recall for the power brake system, I think Im going to take it in and get it worked on. My radio works fine though, but like others I use mostly my phone or SD card filled with music or I listen to Satellite Radio so not much of an issue there. All and all great vid, and I love my Silverado!!!
Good video but it would be helpful if you knew what the AC system parts functions were. Condensers do not "run". And FWIW having retired from the automotive industry focused on GM products, GM has always had AC issues gong back to at least the time GM ditched the "Axial 6 cylinder compressor in the late 70's.
There is also a recall on the brake vacuum pump. I had mine replaced twice. The issue, after a drive, when you come to a complete stop, then coast to another stop (like stop and go traffic or drive thru) you will not be able to push down the peddle.(like air in the lines). Once you get going again at normal speeds it's ok.
A random rock, bird, or ect. Would and could puncture your condenser easily. I don’t have this problem anymore. As I have a good sized heat exchanger in front of it for the supercharger kit. As far as the steering issue. There are also grounding issues. Which are caused by not getting a good ground in the corner of the upper dash. Right next to the dash speakers. They used a sound deadening there. Which were pinched to the grounding stud. Which caused a bad ground. Easy fix. Pull the deadening away or cut it bigger to clear this stud.
So, I heard the SC systemin general is hard on main and cam bearings because of the belts, why not medium sized turbo (50mm)? Is the cost the determining factor? I'm not saying your set up in bad, just curious of your decision.
TheBlack Metal for me. I wanted the torque and power off the line for towing and for helping with my lift and bigger tires off the line. So the Magnuson was the way to go for me. As turbos and centrifugal supercharger tend to not make power until 2000-3000 rpms. Which also doesn’t help with the low end torque that I wanted. Next I have never had a problem with a belt driven supercharge causing problems on the bearings. I mainly went the route I did because it is proven power adder. Lingenfilter, Calloway, and Hennessy all use Magnuson for their power adders of choice. With no problems that I have heard off. Although they are running low boost with stock boltons. Where I do have added power from boltons, and a custom tune. Yet still running low boost.
You absolutely should worry about the AFM lifters failing. I have been a diehard chevy guy my whole life. The same goes for my brothers, my dad and my grandfather. The problems started when my brother bought a 2014 Silverado with 70k miles on it here in California. at 77k the check engine light came on and it barely had enough power to get him home, it was also making some weird clicking and grinding noises. he took it to the dealer and it was Barely out of warranty, he had to pay $3,000 to have it fixed, then took it to a custom truck shop and had the AFM cylinder deactivation turned off. Since then its given him no problems, in that regard. The A/C did go out recently at 100k miles but that's not nearly as big of a deal. My grandpa also bought a 2014 Silverado in Oklahoma, it had 60k miles on it. At 75k miles his motor did THE EXACT SAME THING that my brothers did. he ALSO had it fixed for just under $3,000 at the chevy dealership. 1500 miles later 2 more lifters collapsed on the other side. chevy refuses to fix it and is insisting that its going to be another $3,300 to fix. They said that since its different lifters than the one that they fixed before it wouldn't be covered under their warranty. Bottom line, CHEVROLET makes a defective product. These trucks have a major issue with the AFM lifters and they don't stand by their product. I will NEVER be buying another chevy and neither will my family.
I have a 2014 5.3L WT Crew 4x4 that I bought used a year ago. The issues I have had so far are the column shift lever actuator rattles all the time while driving, theres an odd clunk coming from the rear when going over some surfaces or turning, and one night I left it in 4 wheel over night and the next morning the system went into neutral and would not engage 2w,4 low or 4 high. Took 10 minutes of fiddling with the lever and letting the truck roll a bit to get it to finally pop into gear. One big concern I have is once while pulling into traffic I let off the brake, started to roll into the lane, put the foot on the accelerator and the truck did nothing (no errors, no rpm just nothing) until I let off completely, then put my foot back down it finally moved. Only happened once but if this thing ever does that to me on the highway I am parking it for good.
Awesome video man! Just came across this channel and you got some great content, just picked up my first silverado 2018 two weeks ago! Keep the videos coming!
Your opinions after owning the truck for a short time. Rad replaced on warranty. 4W locked in if left in 4W when shut off, and air conditioning. From someone who has been around my kids truck from new.
Have a 2010 Silverado with 93000 miles same brakes, transmission, battery starter only replaced a headlamp and thermostat, had no problems on the recall for airbags now just need to reset my light and get tire sensors, had it 8 / 1/2 years😃
Dustin T, i did not know about the issues about the AFM system in the 07 to 10 year model Silverado truck until I did some searching on my 2010 Silverado and ran across what other people were having issues with oil consumption, lifters calapse and camshafts failing due to owners not changing there oil like they should and when I bought my 2010 Silverado a little over a month ago, I have replaced the left side valve cover and replaced the dirty air Pcv tube. GM claims that the baffles in the valve cover would let some oil get caught up in the intake and when the next cold start the engine would have a puff of blue smoke come out of the tailpipe and so far so good, me replacing the valve cover I have not seen the blue smoke. I'm really hope that it is fix! I also have purchase the Range Technology AFM Disabler for my truck to not allow the truck to go into V4 mode and stay in V8 mode all the time. The device or chip does what it says it does. I have been impressed with it and my truck runs, in my opinion, better and the transmission shifts smoother. I really did my homework on the Range Disabler before I purchased it. I'm hoping that my engine will last a long time now that I have disabled the AFM system. Once I unplug the chip from the OBD2 port, the truck will go back the the AFM system working like factory specs. This is some of my experiences so far that I have seen or come across with my Silverado truck. Me too, have been a long time diehard Chevrolet fan and owner of these vehicles, that I'm hoping that they would continue to make a good or great trucks and cars. Great video as well, man
Egerton Ridout appreciate the support buddy! I’ve heard really good things about those chips. The 2014 transition from 4 to 8 cylinders is much much smoother. For what it costs for the chip, it’s probably not a bad idea to put them on all the 07-13 silverados
AC Condenser issue, dealer - $2,000. Stabilitrak issue where it'll yank the steering wheel out of the hand on slow speeds. Got the software update and still having issues where they won't fix. The catalytic converter is garbage, dealer - $2,400. Wiper fluid spray nozzle keeps clogging even after replacement. Seat heater doesn't last long. Seat shifts. 2014 was a bad year for Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.
What do you know about the Chevy "shudder" or "shake" concerning the drive train? Very common. My 2017 just started. I've heard possible causes are : drive shaft, back axles, tire balance, ball joint, torque converter.
Try getting your tires road force balanced. It seems to help a lot of people out. What drives me crazy about my 2017 is that any bit of mud stuck to the inside of a wheel throws the whole truck out of balance, to the point I've resorted to carrying around a plastic paint scraper so I can lay down under my truck and scrape the damn wheels clean when I get to the pavement. My 2010 had the 17" wheels and I feel like vs the 20s they use the reduced clearance between the wheel and brake rotor to their advantage
I've got 75k on my 15, the only problem I've had with it was a lifter went out on the DOD system, which was fine with me, pulled the engine myself and put a cam in it, been running like a champ for 7k and man does it pull hard, other then that, not a single problem to speak of, love my truck, and will continue to for a long while
Good video Dustin! I’m also a Chevy guy! I have always Prefered Chevy over Ford and Ram but I know some guys that swear Ford is a way better truck. What are your thoughts about that? What makes you prefer Chevy so much!?
Ram is undoubtedly worse than Chevy and Ford but the age old battle between those two will never really be answered because the truth is they are both very good trucks. Ford definitely has better interior but as far as drivetrain, the 5.3L is a fantastic engine and so is the Triton. Its mostly preference
AC Condenser leaked on my '15 Silverado. There is a class action lawsuit on it, but not yet settled. My radio antenna fell off the truck while it was in the car wash, I put a locking washer on it with no further problems. My " trailer management system " warning goes off at times intermittently, then nothing for a couple months.
Dash crack , lifter tap and inevitably fail, upper ball joints, hub bearings, inner tie rods , and oil consumption is the top list for the 2007 to 2013
Those are the best ones! Had my 08 for 10 years and did absolutely nothing but change the oil every 3-4k miles and battery every 5 years. Just switched to 2017 ltz and hoping that streak continues!! Good luck
The problem the I have on my 2014 GMC Sierra it's the condenser they want to charge me 900.00 to fix it, and the trail breaking warning drive me crazy when start sound ,and went the truck go over 6or 70 start checking ,no body now why is that problem .
The 6.2 is a complete savage man! i've pulled 8k put a 8% grade at 75 with it. It just has endless power. But the way gas prices are looking right now and it takes premium the 5.3 is attractive. Hope you enjoy the high country man ive been driving chevy my entire life and i've never been stranded. cant say the same for Ram or Ford trucks lol
Glad people like you make videos like this. Please get to the point sooner, I want to watch the video for the info you promise in the title. Not for other videos you want to make "soon." And show the part you are talking about. don't stick your finger in the grill about the condenser, maybe get a flashlight and illuminate it behind the grill so people can see. Otherwise not a bad video.
I’m having a headache w my 2016 Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3L code: p050d I’m almost sure its injectors. I’ve seen a lot of ppl complain about this issue on blogs about GM. I was hoping to see videos of this problem 14’-18’
I have a 2014 Silverado 1500. 1. A/c condenser 2. Shark fin antenna leaked 3. Gas tank vent needed replacement ($400) 4. Starter now appears to be going bad (122k miles) 5. Tailgate spring worked for about 1 year 6. Window and lock controls in driver side door corroded, needed replacement 7. This is a huge one, when at idle, brakes completely stop working (have to put full body weight into them). Then when I step on the gas, I get the brakes back. Discovered this at a drive thru..
I have a 2014 silverado 1500 LT 2WD 1. A/C at 35k miles under warranty And that’s literally it I now have 110k miles and the truck is amazing Sorry for your experience but that’s not typical at all in these Chevys maybe you had bad factory workers not placing things in properly the robots could not? Idk man but my trucks great
That’s funny my ac went out like day 2 of ownership and for me it was the compressor that went out but yea CarMax re did the whole system and it’s been working great ever since
I just turned 104,000 on my 2014 high country. Not a single issue. Gets 22mpg on the highway. Only 13mpg pulling the boat and 8mpg pulling my skid steer. LOVE the truck. It rides and drives like a Cadillac !!!!
"Cant say that about some of the other brands out there" Ford. Ford sucks. I have one and it is a bitch to work on especially being a 2015. Wont ever buy another one again. Great channel tho bro. I subbed.
To save you a long watch for a minimal amount of information, #1, the Air Conditioning system, #2, electrical steering (recalled by GM), FM radio doesn't have good reception.
Hey Dustin, I've got about 115,000 miles on my 2014, so I thought I'd let you know a little bit about what to watch for. On the vibration issues that some people talk about, I am running Cooper All Terrain 33's right now on stock wheels and I only get vibration if I skip a tire rotation, and apparently it's due to the way they set the front (camber?) I think is what they said. It's really important to keep up on rotations. I've also run the BFGoodrich All Terrains, I like the Coopers better, but I'm going with the BFG KO 2's when I add a lift later this year. I've not had any problems with the AC yet and I live in Texas so it's used pretty much all year long, guess I just got lucky and got a good one. I've had a slight issue where the cable from the stereo to the USB ports didn't work for a little bit, but then it just started working again and has worked since. On replacing your MyLink: I'm planning on upgrading too, after I drove a rental and realized how helpful some of the new features are, so check this video out(it is not cheap but seems easy to do) ruclips.net/video/rTICy16xz0A/видео.html
I was looking originally at Rough Country because that's what the dealership used, but then I read concerns for ride quality and wear. I started shopping the other extreme with BDS and realized I ain't made of money. Now I'm landing either at Fabtech or Rough Country. How's your lift? any ride problems? I was thinking 4.5" or 6" with added leaf springs to keep the rake and I carry and tow frequently. I drive over 120 miles for work each day, but it still sees beaches, some rocky terrain, and that nasty texas mud.
That’s quite a drive every day! The ride is honestly like stock, very smooth. I honestly can’t tell a difference. My biggest issue with not going bigger was me afraid of it not fitting in the garage! Haha
Hey ManI’ve got a 2014 1500. I just started noticing a low/quiet whine in first gear and gets louder as RPMs increase. It is almost unnoticeable in second and then after second gone. Almost sounds like it is stuck in a low gear but shifts fine. Have you, or anyone had this experience with their 1500? Also at very low speeds the steering “groans” normal or not? Here is to being a hypochondriac towards my tuck haha
A common issue from what I was told at the Dealership is lifter failure which is under the cylinder head mine was a 2017 ltz I know someone with a 2016 model and at 3600 miles he had lifter failure without camshaft damage.
I’ve got some rough gear shifting after long drives. To a point where I thought it might break down. In town it’s not bad. I’m taking it in for inspection tomorrow. I’m really hoping I’ve got some life on that transmission.
Replace the transmission with something different then Chevy one that is offered. I am having to replace my whole transmission. These new "adapted" transmissions have serious problems. Chevy made them to adapt to your driving patterns to make the transmission last longer so they said. The torque converter is horrible and ruins the rest of the transmission as well. It was know early on right after they built them. Dealers will tell you they are "know for the ruff shifts". I found out the hard way. There are MANY articles on this problem with this year!!!!
its part of the COPY CAT WORLD ....ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLMOST every youtube video they do the same thing its due to the longer the video the MORE THEY MAKE ON VIEWS so....keep that in mind i just scan thru the video and find the important parts.
Hey man! Just to let you know, I have a 2014 Sierra SLT Z71 4x4 Crew cab and I updated my radio system. My truck now have the apple car play and also the android capibility as well. I also have factory GPS navigation without having to use on star. There’s a infotainment website that sells the upgrade kit that took just minutes to install on my truck. My problems I’ve had so far though is the A/C, the battery, a constant service trailer brake system warning, and a engine light for the air fuel ratio in the injectors... I do love the Sierras still though!
And the truck that rear-ended them guess what it was a steel Ford F-150 and guess what we fix that one too and it was just a front fenders and grill and bumper and Hood not the whole goddamn truck
Never mentioned the Oil Pump Failures on the 5.3s from 2014 to 2018, you did mention the cylinder deactivation and when it screws up it takes out the lifters and the cam.
Not always the cam. My 2014 silverado had a collapsed lifter last summer at 180,000 miles. I drove it 50 miles to where I could stop and have it towed to the dealer. My cam ended up being fine. I have since turned off the ATM/DOD.
I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD with 140,000 miles. I have already replaced the water pump twice. First symptom was coolant loss with nothing dripping on the pavement. I could smell coolant but did not know where it was coming from. I took it to a mechanic and he told me the water pump was bad. The second time I had coolant loss I added more coolant until I parked it one day then noticed that all the coolant was on the ground. Once again it was the water pump. Now recently I am having coolant loss again. Seems like the water pump is failing every 35,000 miles. Is anyone else having this problem?
I've got a 2014 I've had since new, and I've had the AC compressor replaced.....I agree that the radio reception is terrible.....the other thing is that I've had two batteries go bad on it....
Last comment LOL I forgot to mention regarding the Chevy MyLink it would be cool if there was more than the four or five themes that you can display and I researched and try to see if you can change that and up until now you can't unless you know something that I don't LOL
i talked to chevy about updating it and they said that the computer in the 2014s is not powerful enough to run the android auto features and you would need to change that out there is a company that will setup one of these computers for you and can even modify things how you want them supposedly but it's $1k+ and i haven't felt like i hate my radio enough to spend that on it yet
Something else worth noting on the 2014 era of GM trucks. Vacuum pump failure which causes a loss of power brakes. We’ve had 3 trucks (including mine) with this failure, I suspect gm will eventually issue a recall. Mine became noticeable at low parking lot speeds; I’d go to hit the brakes to crawl through the parking lot and my pedal would go stiff. Eventually it just failed and I had no power brakes. Oil burning is still an issue. My truck 2015 with the 5.3 consistently burns about 2 -3 liters or so between oil changes. Some of our other 5.3 liter trucks do the same. I have 150km on my truck and I noticed the issue start around 130km.
That truck is still new. Just wait a few years, and it will literally fall apart. However, so will Rams and Fords. You just can't buy a decent American truck anymore. Nissan is also junk, which only leaves the Toyota Tundra. It's not perfect either, but it's the best available
I can't help it if American auto manufactures are building junk. My 1979 Chevy is doing just fine. It was bought new by my dad, and later inherited by me. The body is rock solid and will last forever. It is on it's second engine and transmission (currently at 438,000 miles) but they were dirt cheap to replace. Super easy truck to work on. No electronics of any kind.
Gerald Scott No shit Sherlock....... No electronics yes , and also not fancy interior , no air bags, standard cab , etc.... Its like comparing apples to oranges . Old trucks are great , but if you think its better than a new truck you’re crazy. We have a 1972 Blazer , original paint , original drivetrain. It will pull trophy’s at car shows, and it still tows our Boats regularly. But I would trade in it a second for a new truck if it came to it.
Doubting Thomas i got a 14 crew cab 5.3lL V8 Silverado LT with 88k miles and it’s been good so far mine actually had a problem with the ac we thought it was the compressor but it turned out to be just the low pressure valve but besides that it’s going strong(It’s my first truck and a massive upgrade over my moms corolla)😂😂😂
My 14 Silverado eats radiators. The thermostat that came from the factory would rapid cycle and cause pinhole leaks to form in the radiator, causing a very slow fluid loss. They had a recall for them, and that covered the first one, but I think the dealership put in a crap part because 4 years later it's doing it again. This one, I'm sure won't be covered.
Thanks for the details. I have a 14' GMC Sierra and I am now on my 3rd a/c condenser. The other issue in my sirius/radio display goes haywire and won't allow me to change stations from the panel, it requires me to use the controls on my steering wheel. It reboots when I shut the truck down ... but super frustrating
Strange Tamer didn't say I'd buy a new one I know the Chevy has aluminum in it but not as much I'm just saying that when you work at a body shop and you see these trucks wreck you'll learn a few things
Yep my AC went out. 2015 LT with 38K miles on it. Took to the dealer and he showed me that same weld that you just pointed out - leaking. Failed condenser,.. so many people have this issue that the dealer already knows whats wrong with it without inspection... I am going to buy a different brand condenser and do the work myself since they wanted $1200 to fix it.
2:57 for first problem

I have a 2011, and am looking at a lot of used 2014-2018s in my area, but might skip that generation altogether and wait a couple years for the 2019 to drop in value to $30k used.
Great advice buddy. I’d like to get a diesel, just can justify the extra expense. Maybe as we get more views 🤔
Thx, Geeez
Oops Oops my 14 has had the AC issue and I’m also going through ball joints like they are going out of style. I’m sitting at 91K
Hey thanks buddy! You said it best, take care of it and it will take care of you!
Lol...flapper
That just happened to me. I had to take out the blower motor and there was one leaf in there that i couldn't vacuum out.
2:57 - timestamp for the first issue
Man, i appreciate the video, but get to the point...damn
You read my mind
No shit lol
Exactly what I was thinking - 10 mins for 2 mins of information.
Yep
Gotta get to 10 min to get da monies
25 years in service/last 20 with gm,i own a 2014 silverado/purchased new(condenser replaced last year),best truck i have ever owned,5.3 6 speed
Did you alter anything with the afm?
Btw screw all the haters, I enjoy ur videos and u are very informational that’s the point!!!
Thanks buddy!
My son-in-law picked up his newish 2014 Silverado LTZ last night with 80,000 miles. Mint condition, meticulously maintained and a clean Carfax. 12/23/20.
Congrats to him. I purchased the GMC all terrain model. I couldn't justify the ridiculous price asked for new models nowadays.
Thanks for making these kinds of videos.
Thanks for watching them buddy! Stay tuned, cool stuff to come!
My condenser ruptured and I replaced it myself with a condenser from amazon. I haven't had a problem since.
How do you turn it off?
@@damon323 you have to get a small module to plug into your obd port. They’re about $200. Or you can have someone do it in the ecm but I think that’s a bit complicated.
@@brandonwipf3505 Awesome man, thank you! Figured it was gonna have to be tuned, but it’d be nice if there was a button on the dash from the factory
one thing I've heard for these trucks is that an oil separator, basically a catch can is a great investment! head a ton of headlight and AC problems as well but for preventative maintenance an oil separator seems like a good deal haha
Catch cans are a waste of money
Alot of these issues are for specifically the 2014 . That's why they say never buy the first year of a refresh or redesign . My 2015 has had none of these problems. Buy a 2018 and you can be confident that you won't worry about any of these issues
I think you hit the nail on the head buddy!
Just bought me a 2018 LT 5.3, beautiful truck.
me 2
My 2014 has none of the issues. No ac issue no vibration issue no rust through issue.
That’s been a great truck buddy!
One more, I forgot to add I wish these trucks had air condition vents on the back like the Ford that's kind of my only gripe
Yeah, I was surprised by that. Even my 06 Silverado had those!
I got a crew cab 2015 Silverado and can’t believe there are no vents in the back for how big the truck is, it’s crazy
There are vents under the front seats that blow on the rear passenger floor
Ch Ha exactly. eaven ram trucks have rear vents. what was gm thinking about. but they brought them back for 2019.
Had my chevy radio go fuzzy and it ended up being the ground for the antenna had a poor connection. Might be worth looking into.
On my 2014 Silverado, 5.3L, I definitely have had the issue with my steering. I did get it fixed, when recalled. I currently have the issue with the a/c. Very good video. Thank you for sharing.
I'm having the steering issues and they are saying it's not a recall @electricpowersteering
Any helpful information would be great
@@MrJoeeano88 no, I'm at a loss.
Dang man I’m sorry to hear that. Has it been covered under warranty?
Dustin T .... I have an appt for Tuesday this week. Will drop it off early and show videos of what I've gone through. Even the steering wheel jerks, AND WHILE DRIVING. It had died, while on the turnpike, on several occasions. That's life threatening.
Turned out it was the mega fuse box that sits on top of the battery. All good now
D Hernandez
Me to 2014 Silverado
AC Condenser 80k
Battery 65k
Starter 73k love the truck those are my issues so far
Rodney JENKINS after fixing my issues, all is good now.
I have a 2015 GMC sierra SLT and have had no issues and love the truck inside and out
Im about to get a 2014 GMC with the 5.3l engine. Im really excited, I think these trucks amazing along with Chevy.
Jonathan Breckenridge How do you like it? Thinking about getting one too, just doing my research.
Lmfao. Enjoy your oil consumption in 4 cylinder mode. Didn’t fix it until 2016
You should add problems with the Torque Converter and the Oil Pumps! Both very costly
Thats what I'm looking for a mention on.
How u know your torwue converter was damaged?
Good video! And yes both were an issue on my truck!
Thanks buddy!
Dang, putting in a supercharger!? Nice!
Dustin T added a Magnuson TVS2300 about a year and a half ago. Best decision I could of made.
I was a Chevy guy until I bought my first Silverado. It broke down on me 14 times in one year. Now I'm a Toyota guy.
Ford F-150 is good too.
I need more detail...was it new? If not, what year?
Simple if it was new you can lemon law the truck. Bet it had the same recurring problem that your dealer couldn't fix.
Hell yea down with america. Love that japanese chinese stuff. You rock!
Ever dumb
I’ve had what I think is a grounding issue with my 2014 I lose power an the truck dies when I make turns at low speeds
I had the same problem with mine last night when I come home I haven't looked at it yet
Awesome video man! Just came across this channel and you got some great content, just picked up my first silverado 2018 two weeks ago! Keep the videos coming!
Just bought one the first day in two hours drive transmission when out 😢
My Chevy is doing the same thing
The dealer change it for a new one they pay 3500 for it
How many miles were on the truck when it went out? I have a 2016 z71 with 24,XXX miles and it seems like the transmission lags a little bit.
98k
Like what was it doing before it actually went out, Just curious. Sorry that happen to you. BTW.
Your opinions after owning the truck for a short time. Rad replaced on warranty. 4W locked in if left in 4W when shut off, and air conditioning. From someone who has been around my kids truck from new.
great vid Dustin. Enjoy your truck
Thanks buddy!
For what it costs for the chip, it’s probably not a bad idea to put them on all the 07-13 silverados
i as well am planning on buying a range tuner
woofman what year is your truck? Do you have the 5.3 liter engine?
2016 and yes
So these trucks do have the 4 banger mode..lol..no wonder it feels like that when barely applying the pedal....its like a gas save mode.[eco]mode..m
That’s a mighty big check! What is the deal with the seat heaters? Is it the element?
More than likely. Haven't checked too much into it but the back heater works; just not the seat bottom.
You probably have Lane departure on your truck and it will steer away from the center line for you a little bit.
Good video bud! Well spoken and make sense! Looking to buy one thanks for the heads up
Glad to help buddy!
Great video bud. Please don't stop. These videos are so informative an extremely useful
You forgot the wax peeling off the frame, The sloppy power seats, the leaking satellite radio shark fin,
Chris R I had the leaking shark fin. Under warranty
Shudder during v4 mode is the exhaust rattling next to the trans mounts. Buy a tuner and delete the v4 mode.
I turned active fuel management off..its garbage! I bought a v8 and want it to stay in v8!
GIXXER_NICK what is your MPG like now?
Yeah I’m curious to know too
how did u turn it off?!?!!!
Yeah, I’d like to know how you turned that off too...if you don’t answer, then your just trolling.
He probably just hooked up a Tuner to it and they make a tune that fakes the truck into never dropping the cylinders.
I've got 75k on my 15, the only problem I've had with it was a lifter went out on the DOD system, which was fine with me, pulled the engine myself and put a cam in it, been running like a champ for 7k and man does it pull hard, other then that, not a single problem to speak of, love my truck, and will continue to for a long while
I have 150k on mine full tune up and still a miss fire
I’m not sure how much you know but if your comfortable with it, could you do a video on 07-13 Silverado common problems.
Thanks
I’ll put one together for you buddy!
Please do the 07 thanks
I have a 2015 Denali 6.2 8 speed with 38k on it. I have the seat shift issue, transmission clunk and paint issues. But besides that I love the truck
That’s a nice truck man! I’m glad I didn’t test drive any 6.2s, I’m afraid I’d want one! Haha
What do you mean by seat shift? My seat does a thing where I feel like a spring is moving in a clunky way, just wondering if that is what you meant
Every 6.2 I test drove had a transmission clunk. One of the reasons I went with a 5.3.
Forgot to mention:
1. Chevy Shake
2. Chuggle (transmission shudder due to torque converter)
3. AFM Issues (lifers, rods)
4. Burn oil
1. A/c condenser
2. Shark fin antenna leaked
3. Gas tank vent needed replacement ($400)
4. Starter now appears to be going bad (122k miles)
5. Tailgate spring worked for about 1 year
6. Window and lock controls in driver side door corroded, needed replacement
7. This is a huge one, when at idle, brakes completely stop working (have to put full body weight into them). Then when I step on the gas, I get the brakes back. Discovered this at a drive thru..
I have a 2014 silverado 1500 LT 2WD
1. A/C at 35k miles under warranty
And that’s literally it I now have 110k miles and the truck is amazing
Sorry for your experience but that’s not typical at all in these Chevys maybe you had bad factory workers not placing things in properly the robots could not? Idk man but my trucks great
You pay a good penny for this new model trucks and parts break not even hitting 20-40k SMH 🤦🏽♂️
Feels like you gotta pay to play man haha
So what are you trying to say exactly?
My dad just got a 2014 ltz silverado today with 16 front end and I think these are the best silverados in modern times and im a ford person
110k on my LT
Only issue was A/C at 35k under warranty great trucks
"Cant say that about some of the other brands out there"
Ford. Ford sucks. I have one and it is a bitch to work on especially being a 2015. Wont ever buy another one again.
Great channel tho bro. I subbed.
Ron B.
Same here have 2007 Ford F-150
Hate it
Waist of money
I don’t even drive mine
Johnny boy wow exactly the same
Thanks for the informative video im obsessing over this truck and can’t wait to buy one myself!
Buy one brother< they're the best and nicest you can buy.
it's true my chevy on that side was bad condenser hahaha
Hey man this is some good info you shared, I'll keep an eye out for the stuff you've run in to. What kind of lift are you doing?
Haha
And defiantly keep the rake, with about 1,000 of mulch in the bed of mine it squatted some.
8 inch superlift is what me and buddy have. Well made lift and havent had any issues
My 2013 Lincoln Navigator Has given me 0 Problems and for it to be 5 years old is Very rewarding! !!
A common issue from what I was told at the Dealership is lifter failure which is under the cylinder head mine was a 2017 ltz I know someone with a 2016 model and at 3600 miles he had lifter failure without camshaft damage.
Had to replace the AC condenser on my 2014 at 43,000 miles.
Its a shame to have to replace something like this on a newer truck
Replaced mine at 31000. 2015 High Country
had to replace mine about the same mileage
FullThrottle556 i had to replace my condenser on mines about 54000 miles
Same
I’ve got some rough gear shifting after long drives.
Took me 3.30 sec to sit and wait till you got to the 1st issue of the truck. Smh
😰
its part of the COPY CAT WORLD ....ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLMOST every youtube video they do the same thing its due to the longer the video the MORE THEY MAKE ON VIEWS so....keep that in mind i just scan thru the video and find the important parts.
So you're sitting playing on youtube and you can't afford 3:00 of your life smh
OMG. GET TO THE ISSUES. SO ANNOYING!!! I checked out. Sorry just not digging your video
What's the website for the infotainment system bro?
I didnt know the condensor had moving parts and could be 'running' 😂
hahaha hopefully he meant compressor and not condensor..
i was like uuuuuuhhhhm 🤨
I've been in the HVAC-R industry for 40+ years, and I've had to chase down a running condenser more times than I care to admit.
2014 Same A/C issue as yours, same spot on condenser! Purchased the line bracket while I'm gunna be in there!
Let me know how it goes! I’ve got a video on the replacement if you need it
My 14 did same thing 50k
57 grand and a pos. How many times does he say recall?
I love your truck's interior man, mine is black.
And the truck that rear-ended them guess what it was a steel Ford F-150 and guess what we fix that one too and it was just a front fenders and grill and bumper and Hood not the whole goddamn truck
uh what ....back story please
Never mentioned the Oil Pump Failures on the 5.3s from 2014 to 2018, you did mention the cylinder deactivation and when it screws up it takes out the lifters and the cam.
Not always the cam. My 2014 silverado had a collapsed lifter last summer at 180,000 miles. I drove it 50 miles to where I could stop and have it towed to the dealer. My cam ended up being fine. I have since turned off the ATM/DOD.
@@rickhalverson2140 how did you deactivate the AFM?
@@dennisranck1613 Afm,??

@@dennisranck1613 gotcha ....Need to remove also...just got a 14...50k miles
I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD with 140,000 miles. I have already replaced the water pump twice. First symptom was coolant loss with nothing dripping on the pavement. I could smell coolant but did not know where it was coming from. I took it to a mechanic and he told me the water pump was bad. The second time I had coolant loss I added more coolant until I parked it one day then noticed that all the coolant was on the ground. Once again it was the water pump. Now recently I am having coolant loss again. Seems like the water pump is failing every 35,000 miles. Is anyone else having this problem?
Water pump is something I’ve seen quite a bit. My fathers went out at about 170k I believe on a 5.3. Seems to be not just Chevy specific though
Check if they have any aftermarket water pumps that have been revised. The OEM water pump design has to be bad
I've got a 2014 I've had since new, and I've had the AC compressor replaced.....I agree that the radio reception is terrible.....the other thing is that I've had two batteries go bad on it....
Two batteries? Dang...
My radio reception began to suck about a year ago...other then that plus the recalls, NO ISSUES! Then again, it is my garage kept golf truck 😏
Last comment LOL I forgot to mention regarding the Chevy MyLink it would be cool if there was more than the four or five themes that you can display and I researched and try to see if you can change that and up until now you can't unless you know something that I don't LOL
Yeah man that would be pretty cool!
I was thinking the same thing...be cool if you could update the themes and maybe the layout.
i talked to chevy about updating it and they said that the computer in the 2014s is not powerful enough to run the android auto features and you would need to change that out there is a company that will setup one of these computers for you and can even modify things how you want them supposedly but it's $1k+ and i haven't felt like i hate my radio enough to spend that on it yet
What about under 60k miles? Any issues on a 2014 silverado? Im planning to get one. Not to tow but rather just cause I love them
That truck is still new. Just wait a few years, and it will literally fall apart. However, so will Rams and Fords. You just can't buy a decent American truck anymore. Nissan is also junk, which only leaves the Toyota Tundra. It's not perfect either, but it's the best available
Toyota does make a great truck!
Gerald Scott bunch of turd sandwiches
Toyota is junk too besides the engine, plus its ugly.
Gerald Scott
No shit Sherlock.......
Changing a battery in a 15 is a real pain, anything like that should be quick and easy.
Talking in circles.
Just bought a 2017 Double Cab 5.3L V8 Silverado WT with 18k miles, so far so good after 3 months.
Fords Dodges Toyotas and Nissans have way more problems !!
I'm getting a Chevy but I've never any more problems in my Toyota than a Chevy has. That's why I'll trust making the switch this summer.
For $57,000 there shouldn’t be ANY issues with them. Lmfao joke of a vehicle.
Will give me a discount on insurance tho?
No vehicle is perfect... you can pay as much as you want but it doesn't mean your getting a perfect vehicle...
Troypddr478 ... then why pay $57,000 for a vehicle that you know will have problems???
Mine was ONLY 40K!
I've had my '14 since new Zero problems. Couldn't be happier.
Talk about the truck being static this video has LOTS of it. Is a fan on?
Its a GM product. Junk.
My 2014 Silverado is fantastic!
Get to the point; why are you doing the vid, what are you trying to teach do, last of all stop talking so much; your video is bad.
My name is Dustin and this truck is awesome.
100 % chevy and gmc
How about the rusting frame…especially around the bed area? Mine has this issue and it’s garage kept and had 60K in 2023.
Chevy is trash!
Glad to help! That’s odd about it not letting you change stations from the panel
Sounds like all you guys shoulda got a Ford lol
Strange Tamer no all you should have got a tundra
Yeah nothing like dying and an aluminum pop can
Ed Carl did you know that Chevy uses aluminum on their trucks as well? Check out the 2019 Chevy....
Dan dante yeah I really like the tundras too
Strange Tamer didn't say I'd buy a new one I know the Chevy has aluminum in it but not as much I'm just saying that when you work at a body shop and you see these trucks wreck you'll learn a few things
2k miles past warranty :(
