Fujifilm's XF line build quality has to be approved by Metal Benders from Ba Sing Se. Great video, Doriyan. F/4 lenses are often overlooked but this 16-80mm would be amazing to take on a hiking trip or a landscape shoot, especially with the stabilization. People are sleeping on this thing, for sure.
Hey DC, thanks for covering underrated fuji lenses again. 50/F2 and now 16-80. The 16-80 is one versatile for my travel photography. So verstile that i can shoot more photos, save time and have more time to spend with friends and family. Cheers
It is a underrated lens the one we like to bash without never trying it. That lens is in my travel bag since it came out and I beat the crap out of it . Sahara,Jungle, Rain forest , beaches , and cold at -25 c never failed on me still like new. Paired with a couple of prime it's the Jack of all trade lens for me.
happens way too often-read a couple of forum posts, write of a lens immediately. i’m guilty of it as well! i would still say that this and the 18-55 are the best value zoom’s for the average photographer. like you said, it can handle nearly anything. i do want to look into that new tamron 17-70 2.8 though
Good video Doriyan, I completely agree with you, I’ve been using this lens for about a year and it’s everything you say (I don't do any video), but for photography it’s great, the f/4 doesn't bother me at all, I mostly shoot during the day and always between f/8 and f/11, yes, I want everything in focus (haha). Be well and stay safe.
thank you! and yes this lens got such negative coverage when it came out, and from day one i couldn’t understand why. i’d much rather take f4 and less weight than marginally more light gathering. as a street shooter, f8 is the goldilocks zone lol. stay safe out here!
I'm with you on that Dee! This lens gets so much hate from people who pixel peep. Later when they have forgotten about the discussion I show them photos taken with the 18/f2. Only to hear then ask "what lens did you take this photo with, it's fantastic".
I've had no issues with this lens. As my only zoom lens, I'm glad I chose this one. It brings the video on my xt30 to life. I think the majority of people knock lenses because it's popular to. I also love my fuji 18mm f2 so what do I know, lol. 35mm f2 is still my favorite though.
If I'm in a uncertain mood as to what lens to take I find the 10-24. the 16-80 and the the 70-300 with 1.4 extender covers everything you can wish for and even combined in the Think Tank Retrospective 7 v2 I find, even at 75, it's doable. Beach usually these days where not changing primes is an advantage. Still use the XH-1 - or if a prime day street wise then the XPRO 3. Beautiful choice Fuji gives you and printed up? Well no one's complained yet!
I agree. People look down on the 16-80. But, for what it is, I think it's an awesome lens. Tried one the other day, and I can really see someone using this lens in a hybrid workflow. The OIS works great, IQ is great overall, WR, constant aperture with pretty long zoom range. It's the jack of all trades. People got too hung up on sharpness sometimes they didn't realize that the IQ from modern zooms is *much better* than it was a few decades ago.
you hit it on the head. i’ll happy trade marginal image quality gains vs. the 16-55 for all of the pluses that this lens contains. they’ll be even better in the future! thank you for watching.
What would you pick for vacation to Key West using an XS20? 1. 16-80 Or 2. 10-18 2.8 sigma and 18-50 2.8 sigma? Most of the low lighting would just be evening or beach sunset photos. I'll also probably bring a small flash. Thanks.
Kiddo the last Fuji camera I had was the XS-10 with the 16-80. I loved the XS-10, absolutely loved the 16-80 but sadly I traded it because I just got used to the Sony battery life and couldn't go back to carrying 2 spare batteries again. That lens was super sharp and fast focusing with a great range.
totally understandable, depending on the day you’re having the pre-xt4 batteries can be tough to work with. but yeah this lens is a winner! hope you’re enjoying the sony life 🙏🏾
Hello Sir … I’m from India 🇮🇳 and planning for XT4 with 16-80mm f4 as kit lens in India on Amazon… sir I’m a Columnist by profession but loving street photography and for daily use . Should I go for this combo ?? Need your Advice 🙏
I just did a video on the XC 16-50mm. That one is truly forgotten lol Edit: Your experience mirrors mine. For walk around stuff all these zooms are adequate. You just have to use the lens within its limits
i’m going to have to take a look at your video because i’ve been curious about that one from time to time. seems like if it isn’t the 16-55 people just don’t care about it
@@doriyancoleman appreciate it. I too suffer from gas and would like a 2.8 zoom but the 16-55 is heavy and expensive. The sigma 18-50 would me an instant buy for me
@@doriyancoleman true. Also the 18-55 is extremely popular for some reason, just because it's better than other 18-55 lenses. But that doesn't mean it's good. Imo I think it's highly overrated and it's definitely worth spending the extra money on a 16-80 since it's weather sealed and performs better optically (mainly on the wide end).

😂 for real though! you get nearly every premium feature fuji has to offer in this one. Toph Beifong must have had a hand in the engineering lol

you’re welcome! two great lenses not to be overlooked 🙏🏾
Just picked up one for travelling with my X-T2. The OIS has been a game changer. Still subjects at 80mm 1/15 second tack sharp.
This lens is great. Underrated and an excellent value!

how do you like the xt30 for video? i’m thinking of a smaller body for that and it’s really catching my attention at these used prices
@@doriyancoleman I think it's great. It's only a slight step down from the xt3 unless you use an atomos. It has solid video.

They would weigh a good 60g between them.
The 16-80 doesn’t have linear motors. Only lenses with LM have that.
ahh 🧐 appreciate you looking out!

I love that 16-50mm especially at the widest range. Sharpness is adequate but it's an amazing tool to practice that 24mm equivalent field of view.

I think Fujifilm's most underrated zoom is either the 15-45 or the 50-230.
