LOVE the handlebars and I LOVE your idea of putting the footrest in front of the frame. I wished you had a video showing us how you built it or a longer walk around video showing showing a closer inspection on what you did. What an inspiration!
I like the loud factor. Plus, I have let it sit for several years and it still starts up with a few yanks of the rope. Ya gotta love the old B@S engines.
Valeriy Reiter Yes they did. Lots of duration and overlap. They made good torque for an engine with what? A 5:1 compression ratio? Very low stress design. The people who designed those engines were no dummies.
scdevon A lot less overlap then in modern car engines :) And you can increase compression by adjusting the inlet valve if you want more power with less fuel efficiency. They had something like Atkinson cycle, when inlet closes much later and most of fuel-air mixture pulls back from the engine, which increase your expansion ratio and fuel economy. Toyota began using that)))
scdevon On the other hand, in Otto-cycle engines compression=expansion, and this is their limitation. That's why they start using Atkinson cycle, like in Toyota Prius
That last bit got a laugh out of me! I'm trying to resurrect a briggs and stratton (what looks like a) 2HP engine right now for a bike that appears to be 50 years old according to the shroud. Has spark but won't pop even with ether in the chamber. Need to investigate further. Cool video!
SAME HERE MAN in fact 2 days ago i made a bike trailer out of some wood and a old golfbag dolly im gonna post a video of it soon if you need some ideas
did it in the early 70's with a direct drive belt to washing machine pulley mounted to wheels spokes, a 3.5 hp Tecumseh off a lawn mower...added 4hp head and cam......clocked at 58mph. Built lots of different smaller hp ones. also friction drives with cut and hollowed baseball bat on engine shaft and bat against rear tire. Ate tires and bats. Std bicycle hand brakes weren't much.......lots of shoe soles wore out
It's great that people are still putting motors on bikes. The old Wizzer is back and strong as ever. I love some of the retro oldie looking bikes people are assembling too. Good cheap economical fun.
I recently acquired an old Jacobson edger with a B&S engine that someone had thrown away. Appears to be the same engine you have. Cleaned up the coil, new spark plug, and some fresh gas later it runs great. I have an idea to do a similar build on a beach cruiser. Could you explain the clutch setup? Also, why couldn't I just run a crankshaft mounted centrifugal clutch similar to a go kart setup? Any help you can give would be appreciated.
Nice bike. If you were to ride that on the streets in Burbank the police would give you a ticket. They even give tickets for old Honda 50 Mini Trails. They are no fun meaning the police. Hey with the new technology of Lithium Batteries you should make a cool electric bike.
I would be honored! I used bronze sleeve bushings found at the hardware store. I wish I'd used ball bearings, but the sleeves work. Any questions contact me at paulwelkins at yahooooo dot commm
No peddling makes it a unregistered motorcycle. Unlawful no insurance or registration. I know 1st ✋ hand. Got a misdemeanor crime ticket.. knowingly operation of motor vehicle w no insurance. Not a reg ticket in California.

You never fail to make me smile Paul, I've enjoyed all your videos over the years, SO THANK YOU

Listen to that exhaust note @ 2:08.
Sounds pretty badass for a 6 cubic inch flathead engine.
+scdevon They had oldschool valve timing))

Looks very comfortable as well as fun to ride. I like that you make things simple and at the same time inexpensive.
i need to see the build..ive enjoyed your videos for years, thanks for sharing.
That's one cool sled.
When you stand up, hold the front brake and squeeze the throttle, you'll learn to LOVE electric tech (tire smoking :-) ).
great video, just started watching your videos a few days ago, I am 15 and I spend most of my time drawing plans for stuff like this.
The beech bars are awesome!!!
Totally like it! I have a 5hp b&g. I'd like to do something like this.
Love the laugh at the 2:00 mark!
I was in Reno at that time and wanted to go, but I guess tickets need to be bought years in advance. Nice ride.
great video! have an awesome time at Burning Man! I'm in Reno. My friends are going but I still haven't got to go.
love your work. you are so clever. cheers from Australia
