This must've been so traumatic to her. To go to the hospital for help, they put you under anasthesia without any notice and next thing you know you don't have any feet. I would be depressed in her position, but look at her. Saying her condition "could be worse". She truly is an inspiration.
It's illegal. But true informed consent went out the door long ago. What they tell you about a medication might not even be true. I'm an EX RN. Informed consent used to be the hallmarks of modern medicine since WW2. The medical industrial complex is not about helping people, but to create "forever customers".
She's a very classy lady. She has an extremely beautiful disposition under the circumstances. I pray she gets her prosthesis legs, housing and her SSI very soon.

This woman speaks like someone whose has spent decades processing the trauma of losing her legs even though she’s only lost them for a few MONTHS when this video was recorded. The way she articulates herself is so clear and reflective. She would make an incredible motivational speaker or therapist
i wish i could help her, but no idea how, i dont have a Lot of money but i have some to help and get her some resources( i have some connections with doctors and such, im a dog groomer for many years and have customers that are doctors, lawyers, u name it that would love to help her)

It sounds quite reasonable. I can't imagine how anyone could get frostbite in LA unless they got locked in a freezer. The amputation could very well have saved her life. We're not getting the full story from her.

It’s rare, but occasionally it does get quite cold. However if all this happened a couple weeks ago as she stated, I agree it would be impossible. 30 degree weather in January, maybe, but September? Its doubtful the amputation wasnt necessary. Shes not elaborating but frostbite generally turns to gangrene if untreated. The amputations probably saved her life.
It was likely an emergency due to septicemia, which is deadly within hours-that is why the surgeon went btk *(below the knee) amputation and not above the knee-they were likely just trying to get the necrotic tissue off but leave her with better recovery | mobility. The hospital should have a social worker/risk management team who can assign an advocate and she can request help filing for State and Fed benefits, to include future medical treatment which should be wound care with hyperbaric treatment and transportation to and from appointments should also be secured. She can ask the social worker to help her file appropriate paperwork for emergency housing and even job placement *not necessarily for entire income but she said she enjoys helping people so she may benefit from a job of service that can provide stability while still maintaining benefits. Contact that hospital where surgery was performed and request social services social worker/patient advocate. If they say no, request risk management office inside the hospital and request patient advocate for continued wound care-she needs her hands/fingers managed if she is diabetic so she doesn’t lose them and she needs continued care with the hospital for wound care for her btk surgery site. The hospital can file all treatment through Medicare IF she goes in through er | because she went in through er. They just need to align her with a wound care Dr for future treatments and Medicare will pay but also the hospital could write off the treatment as indigent care and file through fed for their fiscal budget 2022. I hope this helps. ❤️
It's a nice thought but there's no lawyer who will take on this case unless she wins the lottery and can afford a lawyer who doesn't want to take the case and tries anyway she probably won't win. They've been doing this for years when I was 21 they treated me like a drug seeker for 8 hours and when they realized my appendix had burst they put a needle in my arm full of anesthetic didn't tell me what was going to happen I didn't know that I had surgery till I woke up from it

I don't know the real reason why they had to amputate but she's not elaborating or may not be ready to except it. I have given to homeless through Go Fund Me in the past but do not trust them since they have taken away donated monies from orgs they don’t like. (Like the Canadian truckers) Is there another more dependable funding organization?

Same thing I said when the hospital released my daughter after being in ICU for a heart failure and end stage liver disease. She had no electricity or gas etc. No one to track her meds. The social service was incompetent. The hospital said there is nothing more we can do. We had to fight them to keep her another day. I stayed with her for a few days. She is doing better but the hospital is disgraceful.

Western Kentucky rents went from $450/ 1 bed-1 bath apartment to $850-900 in less than 1 year. Be grateful for what you have.

How can u save when your scraping to get by? So you work three jobs then what have to try and save working 100 hrs a week then hope nothing happens as u might not even have medical care? Or go to College end up in debt and again lucky to scrape by. My friend who left America lives in Mexico barely getting by but at least he's not homesless in America. Its absolutely disheartening what is happening and also we have recources to help people but just call them lazy and drug addicts. This goes to show you also that people can and do freeze to death in the streets of Los Angeles. Many people on disability unable to work end up homeless. Many cities are losing their working class due to the high cost of housing. Even if u make 30 grand a year its barely enough to get by. The tax dollars doesn't go to help the people but sweep them or even take their belongings. These people have motor homes which there should be somewhere they can go park and pay a low sum to stay in maybe 200 dollars a month. Really Invisible people should write a book of these stories and how they ended up in the streets. Many people have horrible back stories of abuse or even the dreaded drug use. Never judge someone unless you've walked in their shoes. That is a proverb to live by.
@@MrJboogie04 LA don't get that cold, I've never seen it but I was out on the streets before and did need a couple of sleeping bags, or put the sleeping bag in a giant heavy plastic and got into the whole thing. I was warm with that and I'm seriously freezing cold and can't handle the cold. If her feet froze, I would first guess if some drug made her fall asleep without enough blankets. It really takes a zip up or two all the way zipped up. Blankets suck, they let air in. If they have a tent it keeps them even warmer. If she's not saying she was on some drugs or not, that's not helping people. I don't like to see people this poor with nothing so, Poor and addicts need a place to stay and they don't provide much of that or people would try and live at shelters on the Los Angeles, beach forever...Disability is not enough for rent, sometimes the caseworkers get people into housing but it's not social enough for them, they hate apartment politics and there's a lot of corruption in the slums.
The prices in Los Angeles area have skyrocketed since I left in 2004. I remember looking into cheap apartments or really any option available at the time. I lived in the Valley and basically stayed in the living room in a converted space that my housemates had created as a living place. One day when going to work as a para professional (basically a teachers aide) the property owner of the apartments came in and made us dismantle the space. I went through issues parking my vehicle also problems with my bank as ended up overdrafting my account by not having enough to cover the checks I had written. I scraped by working on an online magazine hoping one day it would become big enough to get me out of the situation I was in. I had graduated College had debt growing. I ended up living in my parents home and basically spending all my time either working or looking for work when I could. I'm writing this story as its the tale of many people doing what they can to get by. The working class are being run down and no one seems to care. How are people on disability supposed to get by? I also have ADHD and this has caused problems in my life as well. I tried to get services but it was difficult to come by. I left in 2004 for China and never looked back. I'm happier than I've ever been here in Hanoi Vietnam on the otherside of the world. I'm now financially secure due to an inheritance so I don't have to work jobs that I don't want to do but work on my own projects and live the life I want to. Soon I probably won't be able to afford to come back to visit also my Mom will be in a retirement community and won't be able to afford to stay in my hometown. Prices are skyrocketing back home here its gone up a bit but still more reasonable. I've been through a lot and learned along the way. Since leaving America I've been able to experience a lifestyle and travel and been to over ten countries lived in around six as well. I'm working on writing projects, promoting underground music basically following my passion not stuck in a cubicle. I know I'm fortunate and trying to live my best life these days not just waste away like some expats do over here. It can sometimes be lonely frustrating and a struggle but if I've gotten through and really enjoying life now.
I actually can't even imagine, this lady's struggle goin through that, that's traumatic, I can't believe she is put back on the streets with nothin, that's a freaking crime against humanity right there I feel, the government have more then enough money to spare she should have help on many levels

Government is obviously part of the solution, but we need a MAJORITY OF PEOPLE, INDIVIDUALS, TO SUPPORT THE SOLUTION FINANCIALLY, SOCIALLY, ETC. And we don't, so nothing substantial happens. Waiting on the government to solve what ails you with no incentive to do so is just plain stupid and a way to dodge personal accountability.

@@AaronHendu - Individuals cannot solve societal problems without the government. You don't build a bridge with donations; you have to have a Gov. DOT use tax dollars to hire professional engineers and regulate standards, and decide how best to spend the money. Same goes for helping the homeless; look at the all the progressive Eurpoean countries. They don't rely on donations, they have government programs. The most an individual (other than maybe the super rich) can do is vote for good politicians and convince others to vote for good politicians. A donation is a temporary fix (I'm not against it) but not a long term solution. Blaming individuals removes accountability from governments and corporations; they're the ones with the real power.

I have heard such good things about the street medicine team. Yes you need to apply for Social Security and you definitely will get it. I don't understand why they just let you go after your surgery and didn't put you in rehab. This is really really awful the way our system treats the homeless. This must've been so traumatic to her. To go to the hospital for help, they put you under anasthesia without any notice and next thing you know you don't have any feet. I would be depressed in her position, but look at her. Saying her condition "could be worse". She truly is an inspiration.

It's illegal. But true informed consent went out the door long ago. What they tell you about a medication might not even be true. I'm an EX RN. Informed consent used to be the hallmarks of modern medicine since WW2. The medical industrial complex is not about helping people, but to create "forever customers".
She's a very classy lady. She has an extremely beautiful disposition under the circumstances. I pray she gets her prosthesis legs, housing and her SSI very soon.

This woman speaks like someone whose has spent decades processing the trauma of losing her legs even though she’s only lost them for a few MONTHS when this video was recorded. The way she articulates herself is so clear and reflective. She would make an incredible motivational speaker or therapist

I would check to see if she has a law suit.I can't believe no one gave her a consultation or signed any paperwork for the procedure.
Its doubtful the amputation wasnt necessary. Shes not elaborating but frostbite generally turns to gangrene if untreated. The amputations probably saved her life.
It was likely an emergency due to septicemia, which is deadly within hours-that is why the surgeon went btk *(below the knee) amputation and not above the knee-they were likely just trying to get the necrotic tissue off but leave her with better recovery | mobility.
The hospital should have a social worker/risk management team who can assign an advocate and she can request help filing for State and Fed benefits, to include future medical treatment which should be wound care with hyperbaric treatment and transportation to and from appointments should also be secured. She can ask the social worker to help her file appropriate paperwork for emergency housing and even job placement *not necessarily for entire income but she said she enjoys helping people so she may benefit from a job of service that can provide stability while still maintaining benefits.
Contact that hospital where surgery was performed and request social services social worker/patient advocate. If they say no, request risk management office inside the hospital and request patient advocate for continued wound care-she needs her hands/fingers managed if she is diabetic so she doesn’t lose them and she needs continued care with the hospital for wound care for her btk surgery site. The hospital can file all treatment through Medicare IF she goes in through er | because she went in through er. They just need to align her with a wound care Dr for future treatments and Medicare will pay but also the hospital could write off the treatment as indigent care and file through fed for their fiscal budget 2022.

It's a nice thought but there's no lawyer who will take on this case unless she wins the lottery and can afford a lawyer who doesn't want to take the case and tries anyway she probably won't win. They've been doing this for years when I was 21 they treated me like a drug seeker for 8 hours and when they realized my appendix had burst they put a needle in my arm full of anesthetic didn't tell me what was going to happen I didn't know that I had surgery till I woke up from it

Same thing I said when the hospital released my daughter after being in ICU for a heart failure and end stage liver disease. She had no electricity or gas etc. No one to track her meds. The social service was incompetent. The hospital said there is nothing more we can do. We had to fight them to keep her another day. I stayed with her for a few days. She is doing better but the hospital is disgraceful.

Western Kentucky rents went from $450/ 1 bed-1 bath apartment to $850-900 in less than 1 year.

How can u save when your scraping to get by? So you work three jobs then what have to try and save working 100 hrs a week then hope nothing happens as u might not even have medical care? Or go to College end up in debt and again lucky to scrape by. My friend who left America lives in Mexico barely getting by but at least he's not homesless in America. Its absolutely disheartening what is happening and also we have recources to help people but just call them lazy and drug addicts. This goes to show you also that people can and do freeze to death in the streets of Los Angeles. Many people on disability unable to work end up homeless. Many cities are losing their working class due to the high cost of housing. Even if u make 30 grand a year its barely enough to get by. The tax dollars doesn't go to help the people but sweep them or even take their belongings. These people have motor homes which there should be somewhere they can go park and pay a low sum to stay in maybe 200 dollars a month. Really Invisible people should write a book of these stories and how they ended up in the streets. Many people have horrible back stories of abuse or even the dreaded drug use. Never judge someone unless you've walked in their shoes. That is a proverb to live by.
@@MrJboogie04 LA don't get that cold, I've never seen it but I was out on the streets before and did need a couple of sleeping bags, or put the sleeping bag in a giant heavy plastic and got into the whole thing. I was warm with that and I'm seriously freezing cold and can't handle the cold. If her feet froze, I would first guess if some drug made her fall asleep without enough blankets. It really takes a zip up or two all the way zipped up. Blankets suck, they let air in. If they have a tent it keeps them even warmer. If she's not saying she was on some drugs or not, that's not helping people. I don't like to see people this poor with nothing so, Poor and addicts need a place to stay and they don't provide much of that or people would try and live at shelters on the Los Angeles, beach forever...Disability is not enough for rent, sometimes the caseworkers get people into housing but it's not social enough for them, they hate apartment politics and there's a lot of corruption in the slums.
The prices in Los Angeles area have skyrocketed since I left in 2004. I remember looking into cheap apartments or really any option available at the time. I lived in the Valley and basically stayed in the living room in a converted space that my housemates had created as a living place. One day when going to work as a para professional (basically a teachers aide) the property owner of the apartments came in and made us dismantle the space. I went through issues parking my vehicle also problems with my bank as ended up overdrafting my account by not having enough to cover the checks I had written. I scraped by working on an online magazine hoping one day it would become big enough to get me out of the situation I was in. I had graduated College had debt growing. I ended up living in my parents home and basically spending all my time either working or looking for work when I could. I'm writing this story as its the tale of many people doing what they can to get by. The working class are being run down and no one seems to care. How are people on disability supposed to get by? I also have ADHD and this has caused problems in my life as well. I tried to get services but it was difficult to come by. I left in 2004 for China and never looked back. I'm happier than I've ever been here in Hanoi Vietnam on the otherside of the world. I'm now financially secure due to an inheritance so I don't have to work jobs that I don't want to do but work on my own projects and live the life I want to. Soon I probably won't be able to afford to come back to visit also my Mom will be in a retirement community and won't be able to afford to stay in my hometown. Prices are skyrocketing back home here its gone up a bit but still more reasonable. I've been through a lot and learned along the way. Since leaving America I've been able to experience a lifestyle and travel and been to over ten countries lived in around six as well. I'm working on writing projects, promoting underground music basically following my passion not stuck in a cubicle. I know I'm fortunate and trying to live my best life these days not just waste away like some expats do over here. It can sometimes be lonely frustrating and a struggle but if I've gotten through and really enjoying life now.

DOT use tax dollars to hire professional engineers and regulate standards, and decide how best to spend the money. Same goes for helping the homeless; look at the all the progressive Eurpoean countries. They don't rely on donations, they have government programs.
The most an individual (other than maybe the super rich) can do is vote for good politicians and convince others to vote for good politicians. A donation is a temporary fix (I'm not against it) but not a long term solution. Blaming individuals removes accountability from governments and corporations; they're the ones with the real power.

It's obvious that God is not gonna bless her look at what he let happen to her!!! To let all this happen and then think he's gonna bless her AFTER the fact . I don't think so!!

I have heard such good things about the street medicine team. Yes you need to apply for Social Security and you definitely will get it. I don't understand why they just let you go after your surgery and didn't put you in rehab. This is really really awful the way our system treats the homeless. I really hope and pray you can find housing soon because you definitely deserve it.
Heartbreaking...and those whom assist and treat these individuals, how can they feel so good about what they did here.
It takes a long time to get on SSI but hopefully someone can speed up the process for her somehow.

I feel inspired to change my life and get out there and begin to do something worthwhile for these people. I am not married. I live alone and I like being alone but I can't put up with leaving these people alone without getting involved somehow, I mean seriously sacrificed to this cause.

What the hell. This should be a lawsuit. Where was the social worker to help her? Where was the compassionate doctors or nurses to explain everything. I'm sure they did but she was likely so medicated. This is heart wrenching.

You did a story on me and my daughter Tina and shealynn when I was homeless living in are van and she got section 8 I think a year or 2 after you spoke with us we got section 8 my daughter is now 12 years old I hit the like button everytime I watch you . We are starting a RUclips channel soon and most of the money we earn will go to the homeless and your cause.. love what you do keep doing it Hun blessings 💕😘

I helped a homeless man for years until he died He gave me as his only family when he was in the hospital..and now I'm 66 still working and give my free meal I get everyday to people hanging around the store. So thank for checking.Walk in my shoes and don't judge

It’s hearing these breathtaking stories that just pisses me off! What kind of world do we live in? People in LA have SOOOO MUCH MONEY! The LEAST they could do is help out a homeless PERSON in any little (or big) way. If this woman received one blanket from 3 strangers then maybe she would still have her legs. What a sickening world we live in.
