As someone who read the manhwa and has yet to see the anime im very excited to see you guys react to this. This series isnt overated theres a reason why it spawned a trend of copies and series that took inspiration.

Unless they make major changes, this is the best season of the anime we'll get. Story takes a major downturn after the end of the current anime season & I'll not talk spoilers for the sake of other comments, but I hope the trend continues of trying to flesh out the story & they can bring the manhwa to life, because it has great art & action, the story is just such a let down.
If other people around here are wanting more in specifically the modern-setting Hunter/Gate genre (& I could give reccomendations for other genres if anyone would like, but I am excluding stuff that is adjacent to the genre - like Tower, Apocalypse, etc) I'll list a few, none of these are my absolute favourite, but I do like them more than Solo Leveling.
"I Stole the Number 1 Ranker's Soul" - a rare Hunter/Gate manhwa as it has a female MC (& as a girl, personally, I need to see more manhwa with female MCs, it drives me up the wall how rare it is in the Action genre), she awakens what appears to be a useless ability, unsuitable for hunting, however her ability to gather items in perfect condition & a chance encounter leads her into the world of Hunters.
"Auto Hunting with my Clones" - a Hunter/Gate manhwa where the MC awakens the ability to make a duplicate of himself, through hard work & grit, he'll make something of himself - or his clones will, at least. Exercise is boring.
"The Clever Cleaning Life of the Returned Genius Hunter" - (bending my rules a touch & allowing the regressor tag to sneak in, but it's a Hunter/Gate manhwa through & through with not much crossover with other regressor manhwa [usually these protagonists are "big brain super geniuses" who remember everything that happened in the past & go on to get every special item, ability, etc. & that's just not the case here - this is someone learning to hack it in a new environment & their old knowledge is not helpful to them]) a regressor Hunter/Gate manhwa where the MC, the top hunter, regresses & due to bad karma has their skills locked, he must join a dungeon cleaning team & fulfill the quests to restore his overpowered abilities. Learning to not be an asshole in the process.
"The S-Classes that I Raised" - Not going to spoil this start, because it is a brilliant start. It is a top manhwa for me (though I'll need to catch up & hope they've not dropped the ball, ha) & other Gate/Hunter manhwa should take note. Just jump in.
All that said, there's many Gate/Hunter manhwa worse than Solo Leveling, I think it's quite average in the space - everyone is copying it & most people are dropping the ball.

@HeavensOfMetal the self building aspect slows down because it becomes an op mc story. It basically changes genere and focuses more in on the mystery and domination aspects. It's down to earth and actually feels natural for a series that puts the character's strength in the forefront. As someone who adores origin stories I agree with you that the first season is probably going to be the best, but we're past the origin story now. A character and story doesn't become worse simply because the prologue is over. It's still just as fun and not as suffocating even as things get more complicated, many extremely popular series like to give zero downtime and dispite how annoying it was to read the chapters filled with exposition it's all for the sake of pacing, and makes the epic moments hit better. Also I'm pretty sure our tastes are just diffrent because I couldn't sink my teeth into s-classes that I raised.

@@gracie-md1qq The thing is it doesn’t get more complicated, I can’t spoil anything because they’ve not read the manhwa but it just becomes one Jinwoo stomp after the other, side characters (every character except Jinwoo) get zero development - even ones that should be important & that the author wants you to think of as important as other character cry over these people you know nothing about - & the ending is a deus ex machine anti-climax of epic proportions. It’s basically if Erza from Fairytail was cast in Yuuki Yuna is a hero. I just hope the anime manages to elevate it, because it is good art & good action, but there’s nothing here besides. I’ve tried to re-read it a couple times since I’m going to be watching the anime & the latter half just makes your eyes glaze over, there may as well not be speech bubbles because nothing of substance is said.

@@HeavensOfMetal we definitely have much diffrent tastes in stories Personally as much as I'd like more people to like be developed alongside jinwoo, I genuinely dispise most segments that pull away from the mc or those directly related to them. I bit the bullet through every scene that didn't have him in it. It's *solo* leveling, in a world where hunters aren't expected to change much, every character and monster in solo leveling exists for jinwoo, because all that matters in the story is jinwoo and how things effect him. All other characters are a treat that exist as landscaping for the world and the story. Again this is a story of devouring, litterally nobody else matters. Also I know they flesh other characters and idea out because I litterally stopped reading for a year because it was an arc where jinwoo took a backseat and became the tool in a situation instead of the reins of the story. It's like that because it's not made for you. We just have diffrent tastes. I personally stopped watching fairytale because I couldn't stand the fact that episodes would go by without the main characters being seen. I could not care less about the life of some person someone hasn't even met yet. I skipped every single league of villains episode in mha, because I would rather be confused than watch people i dont care about do stuff. more often than not the extended cutaways to the stories of side characters are simply annoying and boring. At least to me and alot of people. It's okay if you like that stuff but it's simply the genre, and is actually kinda tame when it comes to character pawning when it comes to stories in the genre it came from.

@@gracie-md1qq I don’t think it’s a genre thing, because there’s plenty “OP MC yeah all about dungeons & monsters & levelling up!” stories that do side characters & even alt POVs incredibly well - they make you want to see alt POVs & the MC POV & check in with side characters. Chrysalis (a web novel, but currently being adapted into a web comic - hopefully it adapts it well, but so far I’ve preferred the novel) is a brilliant example, things don’t get left on the cutting room floor (& I do have some qualms with the series, “war arcs” get a bit long in the tooth, but I imagine the actual books do some editing of these - I’ve only followed on Royal Road, but may purchase the ebooks in future). You can call it “difference in taste”, but I think if an author can’t make me care about a character the main character is supposedly caring about, they’ve done a bad job creating that relationship.
