    Rollers everytime!
I worked on RR B757s daily. Gave me such a sense of pride that even the giant Boeing had to turn to a British engine to launch the 757, because the Americans had nothing to do the job. Don't believe me? Look it up. That girl used to climb like a homesick angel when she had Rollers under the wing because she had so much power!
P&W envied the RB211 so much, they even tried to copy the buzzsaw 😜
I have to hand it to the Americans - the 757 was the best dream machine to work on - strong and reliable and tough as old boots! I miss that old girl 🥺

Love the climb out buzz saw sound. Nothing like it. As a flight attendant and sitting at the 2L door for takeoff is such a natural "high" how I miss that! After the reduction of climb power all the passangers would quickly look at me. Guess they thought the engines stopped! 😆

I am an aircrfat engineer and was involved with the VC10 Flying test bed! They removed 2 of the Conways from the port side and modified the stub with to take the brand new development RB 2-11. After tests were compete the aircraft had to be scrapped as it was discovered the single RB 211 had TWISTED the airframe as it pushed out more power than TWO Conways! Rolls Rpyce simply make the most safe and reliable jet engines on the world today - I always try to fly on an aircraft fitted with RR NOT GE or PW.

  • @Michael.Chapman

The P&W sounds brilliant in this clip. For me personally, nothing will ever beat the growl of a triple spool Royce RB211 at high output :-) On the 747-400, the reliable RB211-524G/H variants output just over 60,000 lb of peak thrust each, conferring nearly a quarter-million pounds of combined thrust--giving the 875,000 lb MGTOW airplane excellent performance (over 5000 feet/min of climb rate at sea-level :-) ).

I have flown both engines on the 757-200 and -300. The RR is a very old design and is heavier. The PW has a better EEC and is more fuel efficient. I like both on the 757 but I prefer the PW engines. The PW thrust reversers are 100% more effective. If I were limited to only one type I would take the PW. Boeing screwed up by not updating the 757. The NG 737 is a disappointment from the pilots POV. Old pilots don't want to fly it because they got spoiled by the 757!

The Rolls is a far superior engine. Rolls invented and patented the wide chord fan blade. The PW was stuck using first generation horrifically designed “Narrow chord” blades. There’s 36 blades on the 42,000 lb thrust PW and only 24 on the 43,000 lb thrust Rolls. Every engine builder uses the "Rolls invented" wide chord blades now that the patent has expired. That's what you call innovation! Go Rolls!

The PW2037's are horrible engines because they literally do not want to stay on the wing. The PW2037's are notorious for having cracks along the mounting points and are an absolute nightmare for 757 mechanics. And as for the efficiency PW actually paid airlines to cover the difference between the promise and the actual performance. So I personally think that the RB211 is much better for the 757. Also, PW037's are very hard to start when it is cold.
