What great content I live in tazwell co va and grew up hearing all these stories of the bigger than life folks that lived near me back in the day. Great job keep it up you can tell you put in a lot of research and time into the stories which makes them all the better. I’ve always wanted to visit these sites since I’m so close but never have thank you for showing me all this history in my back yard. I’d love to hear some stories about the native people that lived here also. My new favorite channel!!!!

I'm related to Doc Ellis. I descended from Owen Ellis Jr, and Doc descended from a different son of Owen Ellis Sr. Some of the Ellis family married into the Hatfield clan. My family left West Virginia around 1838 and moved to northern Missouri.

Can't believe that a judge would tell the jury that just because Elias Hatfield used words calling that other guy a sob would have anything to do with self defense! The other guy drew his gun & in my opinion Elias Hatfield had every right at that point to defend himself, new scriber here, as a history buff isn't there some kind of museum for there fued, be interesting to see some of their old firearms for public view.
    Nice channel 👍

What you don't understand is times were different back then, unlike now days, when you dishonored a man, even by name calling , you were treading on very dangerous ground . The SOB reference was in particular a bad choice as it referred to a man's mother . The Appalachian folks Code of Honor would not allow Doc to just walk away after he had publicly been called out. Had he done nothing he would have been labeled a coward. It was rooted deep in Scotch-Irish clan pride .
