I still say that Terran's idea is fairly close to what I suggested to my friends as well. Take Jack from the end of this game, have him fake his identity to get to WW1, and have to story be about him being apart of a kind Inglorious Bastards thing, and have it be revealed that someone running the unit knows who Jack is, who his father is, and knows the history of them and the government, and decides to let him do bad stuff for the US government on undercover work. When RDR1 was new, i never took it seriously. I just joked on how it was GTA with horses. Though its an alright game though, but i still stand by the joke. Compared to RDR2 which feels like an absolute different beast all together!
Counterpoint to the idea that cover makes RDR1 a lesser game: The health system in RDR2 makes it almost guaranteed that you will not die in combat unless you deliberately try to do so, because between tonics and health upgrades, you quickly become way too durable in RDR2, to the point where any degree of real danger is almost absent from gunfights. RDR1 may have the Regenerating Health system that was trendy at the time, but I honestly prefer it, because enemies did far more damage, John was not treated as a superhuman that will tank three entire firing squads before the screen goes red, and your overall HP value was lower, giving a sense of actual danger and stakes to the gunfights. In RDR2, you feel like a video game protagonist, tanking thirty bullets before you feel any need to use a healing item, you don't feel badass because of it, as it ruins any sense of stakes or the need to be careful/worried during combat. I love RDR 2. I really love RDR 2, but the Health System and the spitballs that hostile NPCs fire at you really diminish the experience, because you have zero reason to worry about dying to another human, as long as you are putting in minimal effort to fight back.
The amount of RDR Fandom cope over how awful John is written in RDR2 compared to RDR 1 is as hilarious, as it is pathetic. If RDR2 made it canon that John Marston, Rip Van Winkle, and Jim Milton were all separate individuals who existed simultaneously, and eventually swapped placed with one another, it would be more believable than the cope you get from the fandom over why John's character does not add up with how he is originally depicted.
If you celebrate, hope you all had a very Merry last day of Christmas today! What's your favorite video game character? I remembered John Marston being the most admirable video game character I could think of besides Solid Snake from the first Metal Gear Solid game, but despite thinking Red Dead Redemption had the best story I played in a video game, my childhood favorite pop-culture anything was Metal Gear Solid 3, even though I rated the story a 6/10 as kid, but Big Boss was my favorite character at the time, and then, when I finally played the Devil May Cry games thanks to a PSN sale....Devil May Cry 3 was the one game I thought was a 10/10 besides Resident Evil 4 (only playing it once from childhood so my opinion could change!), and if Dante continued the more noble characterization he had in that game, he would have been my favorite fictional character but being that there wasn't much of that characterization I liked in a longer series, thinking Dante lost his nobility and maturity in later games....However, gameplay mechanic-wise.... Devil May Cry V's Dante was the most fun character to play as for me, besides Metal Gear Solid V's Venom Snake and Tekken 7's Jin Kazama, because of the fluidity of control combined with the wealth of moves allowing for immersive creative freedom in the larger world where I could finally do more what I wanted in a game! However, being that there was so much to read/watch that I liked of Dragon Ball, I guess Son Goku is my favorite video game character. 2020's Dragon Ball Z Kakarot was the last game I purchased, and I I loved it because I got to play through his story, even though, mechanically, Dragon Ball FighterZ is my favorite where even though I thought there were better/easier characters to play as, I will always play as my boy Goku! He was my favorite fictional character besides the specific 1997 Joe Kelly Deadpool where I interpreted them as kind of two sides to the same coin, except Goku's on the good side, though perceived as a clown, was a jovial secure-in-himself grateful peaceful light for others to help their redemption, with his downfall spiritual warfare struggle being his pride, and Deadpool having a similar struggle but he's on the villainous side depressed insecure pity party tormented clown in desperate need of a light to help with his redemption which at the end of the 1997 Joe Kelly's interpretation he changed from villain to anti-hero. Getting back to John Marston, if interested, from my mixed meme-machine multiple-choice memory from a fuzzy childhood onward, unlike my favorites, I put him on a list of most admirable characters I could think of.... Most imo admirable characters I can remember- John Marston (Red Dead Redemption) Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid) Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, Gandalf, Pippin, Merry, Eowyn, Arwen, Gimli, and Legolas (Lord of the Rings) Seita (Grave of the Fireflies) Miss Pross, Sydney Carton, Dr. Manette, Charles Darnay (1935 A Tale of Two Cities) Tom Destry Jr (Destry Rides Again) Babette Hersant (Babette's Feast) Han Solo, Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker (Star Wars) Maximus (Gladiator) Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird) Mary Hatch Bailey (It's a Wonderful Life) Lisa Fremont (Rear Window) Fictionalized Tim Ballard (Sound of Freedom) Jefferson Smith (Mr. Smith Goes to Washington) Mel Miller (A Face in the Crowd) Mark Thackeray (To Sir, with Love) Future Trunks (Dragon Ball) Roz (The Wild Robot) Kurt Busiek's Captain America (Avengers comics) Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's Spider-man Walt Kowalski (Gran Torino) Joe Kelly's Nightwing (Justice League comics) Leonardo (the 2003 TMNT show) Nightcrawler (X-Men the Animated Series) Tim Drake Robin Susy Hendrix (Wait Until Dark) Fictionalized William Wallace (Braveheart) Maria Van Trapp (Sound of Music) Grandpa Martin Vanderhoff (You Can't Take it With You) Sam (Moonrise Kingdom) Optimus Prime (Transformers One) Cliff Booth (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim (1951 A Christmas Carol/Scrooge) Edit (The Phantom Carriage) Louis Bennett (Mr. Deeds Goes to Town) Linus (A Charlie Brown Christmas) Rachel Cooper (The Night of the Hunter) Frieda (1932 Freaks) Noriko Oishi (Godzilla Minus One) Jean Valjean (1935 Les Miserables) The Iron Giant Thanks again for reading ramblings with your particular pal holly jolly John Henry! Hope you have an excellent week!

If you like good Bible teaching, I suggest checking out Steve Gregg. He’s not very well known, but he was an immense catalogue of teachings and verse by verse studies through every book of the Bible. I think he’d provide an interesting perspective, considering most of the preachers you mentioned listening to are Reformed/Calvinist apart from Tozer.
Even though RDR2 is arguably the better game, I just didn't like it as much as RDR1. RDR1 just feels more like a Western, whereas RDR2 felt less like one.

The "in the family way" idiom spoken in the times of the game CAN'T be said nowadays because a majority of them DON'T have families!! Missing generations of fathers alot of the time.... Grandparents to alot of raising their kids kids ... Wonder why the social morality of our country in parts has degraded so thoroughly.

Thanks again for reading ramblings with your particular pal holly jolly John Henry! Hope you have an excellent week!
Belmont from original castlevania something about consuming A whole chicken for life energy lol.
@@JonKelley-s2phaha Another perspective on playing chicken! Also, low calorie, high protein, and any excuse to bring up a "Why did the chicken cross the road?" joke, and if it falls flat, always got old faithful "tastes like chicken." I'm not familiar with Belmont but I like his style! Thanks!

AY UP RAZORFIST
Why isn't there a link on the main channel?
Even though RDR2 is arguably the better game, I just didn't like it as much as RDR1.
RDR1 just feels more like a Western, whereas RDR2 felt less like one.
The Mormon Church-The Chosen link has already been de-bunked.
Get some Green Chile and I am game
Red Dead 2's story annoys me on a fundamental level, to such a degree that it sours this game for me, I hope we get a good Western game one day without writing that makes me roll my eyes out of my head

Victorian? This ain't set in England, son. The dialects were not the same. And we had our own eras.
Also, I believe this was the Edwardian era.
Edit: I was wrong. RDR1 took place in 1911, the Edwardian era was from 1901 to 1910.
The Old West is the Victorian Era, my dude.
First
Literally weren't guy.
The nuclear family is as American as The Star Bangled Banner the poem not the song whose tune was European in its origins.
