I had the exact same issues on my Hyperdrive with same BV37 engine. I replaced the starter with a more robust one, no issues at all after that. Same brake issue too, which the dealer said was a buildup on grass between the wheel and brake mechanism. If I were to ever get another one I would go with the FX1000 Kawi 35hp, or the newer BV40 HP. I think Hustler makes a great mower, very rugged and well built. Wish it discharged wet grass as good as my Deere or Scag, but it honestly did not. It also does not cut well mowing backwards as the Deere or Scag. The Exmark Lazer Z X Series I used for a while does great cutting backwards. Thanks for you video!
I ran 3 different Super Z’s from 2016 through 2022. I had brake issues with the 2nd one. I tightened the brake linkage myself but may have over tightened it. When pushing the levers out to engage the brake, the linkage bent and would not make contact with the electrical switch and therefore would not activate the starter at all. I think that grass or leaf build up around the linkage may have assisted with the bent linkage, so I tried to blow off that area more frequently.
I’ve noticed grass in that area pretty heavy before. And thought that could be an issue. Mine was not build up though to the extent to my issue. Really not sure why my break seemed weak. However it’s working now. I’ll let everyone know if issue persist. Thanks for your input
I had a vanguard on my sander much smaller motor than yours, brand new right out of the gate I had starter problems, The dealer took care of me the first couple times but that started wearing thin, it was like I had to carry extra starters in my truck. We searched every possible reason and could come up with nothing, I swapped out motor brand and problem alleviated
Similar issue on a really old xone. Mine has the fuses exposed on the fuel tank. Replaced battery, same issue. Pulled the fuses, mine were dirty, scaled from washing it off, not really corroded though. I just shot some wd40 in the fuse holders and pulled out and put them in a few times. Shot some wd40 down the key/ignition too- ignition seemed to hang a bit. Solved my problem. As an fyi- mine has a Honda motor retrofit- I thought for sure I was going to need a starter- same slow, delayed crank when cold. Started fine when it was warm.
I have the same engine on my Spartan and it has the same starting issue. From my understanding, Briggs has upgraded the starters to higher torque starters so the newer engines may not have that problem anymore
I had an issue with my old timecutter with the parking break because it had the handlebar brake as well. It seemed to slip on a incline and then would lock after rolling a couple inches. Made parking it in the trailer on an incline a nightmare. New toro z master 4000 with a manual parking brake seems to lock a lot better than having the lock in the handlebars.
IT AINT PRETTY BUT A 1999 NEW HOLLAND MC 35 AWD,SHIBAURA DIESEL WITH A 60 AND 74 INCH FRONT DECK MOWER.... WITH 2800 HOURS STILL GOING STRONG... THERES A HUSTLER VERSION AS WELL FROM 99... THERES A VID OF THE HUSTLER VERSION OUT THERE OF IT CUTTING 6 FOOT WET GRASS LIKE IT'S NOTHING
Your problem is the Vanguard engine...Vanguard Rep was at the dealer today and said we have crap starters and he all but admitted it. They are looking to improve on the starter as its a huge problem.
We have 3 super Zs HDs and 2 xones all of them have the brake issue. I just think an Ebrake system would be best. We have had some issues with our vanguard starting, one was the ignition switch the other was the fuel pump. We have a couple trimstars and they have had fuel solenod issues. Just some thoughts.
I have a 2021 72" Super Z with the same engine you have. Bought it new & it would do that occasionally at first, then it got so bad, it took forever to start. I just had mine serviced under warranty as well a few weeks ago. The MFR & product number on my invoice for the starter is BRS / 84008633. Hopefully this isn't an ongoing issue. I had them fix another issue on mine that I'm wondering if you had. My sending units for both tanks would stick after filling them up, So after mowing for awhile, I'd have to bang on the side of the tanks to get them to show the correct fuel level. They said it was a known issue.
Mine sometimes does same thing with the starter but my mower is a gravely 252 kawasaki 850 mine has 94hours does it once in blue moon my mower is also a 2021 model I'm on same starter and battery when I got it brand new so ya think it just happens
That world be great 👍 I’m thankful it’s under warranty however I’d love to figure it out before warranty is up. I didn’t buy the Cub they brought it out for testing and have more coming out in the spring. I’m thinking I’ll just sell this mower and pick up a new one with a Kawasaki motor.
That’s crazy but seems to be what everyone is saying. I haven’t tried past the battery to diagnose it. But I’m sure it will come to that if I don’t sell it off before hand.
This will fix the brakes my hyperdrive I’ve had to adjust once and probably needs adjusted again. My starter did that until I got the o2 sensor replaced and the ecu reset ruclips.net/video/orZaWJ81hT8/видео.htmlsi=LTm1PP3ipnYxzMdI
@@micahrandolph4397 appreciate the info. I’ll check it out soon. My starter has already started doing the same thing 😤 I’ll be going Kawasaki next round
I feel your pain brother, sorry you are having issues. My new hustler did the same as far as the brakes. The only way the dealer bought mine back is if I deleted my bad google review. IMO the bendix engagement sounded fine, either the starter is weak, or the engine is hard to turn over. Could be a number of things. I'm curious to see how much current is pulling when trying to start, what the compression in the motor is, check the grounds, etc.
Glad to hear from you buddy. How’s everything your way? I’m planning to talk with the rep about it also. Curious as to his opinion. I never checked any voltage but the battery. But I did unplug everything and wd-40 connected plugs. I truly think everything with the motor is fine. If this consistently happens I’m going to check further.

Do you have a part number for people so if they want to upgrade the starter they can? Thanks for your input truly as appreciate it.
Commenting to support the channel. The can am accessories you have suggested have turned out to be fantastic. Thank you drakes
Appreciate it buddy!
I been trying to work with a new company on headlights since beamtech has almost stopped selling there h11.

That was the first thing I did but mine does it after some time each time I get a starter put on. I think it’s just junk starters from Briggs

This is another reason why I refuse to buy any Briggs & Stratton powered mowers.
My next will be Kawasaki
Briggs have always had trouble with their starters
That seems to be true

I think so too. Basically what the rep told my dealer.

I’m hopefully as well. But at this point I’m wondering 🤔
Yeah my gauges have done that once along with moisture gets in the bulb 😒

Once mine starts doing this it keeps getting worse and worse. It’s something with that starter version on the Briggs
Sorry you’re having issues with your mower buddy. I wish I knew what was causing it so I could help you out. Did you get the new cub cadet?
That world be great 👍

Just priced a hyperdrive 72” with a 38.5 kawi 16800 out the door here in vidalia! Best price on hustler around anywhere
@@calebdixon8311 I’ll try and remember to check with my dealer so we can compare price

Possibly
It’s an issue I’ve yet to self diagnose because warranty.

Me too I’ve heard better things about their fuel injection systems too
Pto switch or clutch need adjustment
What brings you to that conclusion?
