- my new turtle pond we made out of a old spa bath. this video shows how we made it and set it up the turtles love it!

That’s awesome! Although I would have plumbed something up to utilize the existing plumbing. Probably use an external inline pump and a pressurized canister filter. Then turn up the flow just enough to keep the waste suspended so the filter picks it up, and low enough that the turtles can still swim around comfortably. Would be an awesome setup for map turtles since they are very strong swimmers

I like that some people have them in there back yard in there natural environment my teacher had a turtle in the class and I felt bad cuz it kept bumping into the glass it was a big turtle in a little aquarium they need more space
they certainly enjoy the room
I thought I've seen some cool handmade tank until I found your channel. I'm in wow moments.....this awesome scenery add life to your backyard. These turtles are blessed to have creative owner and they get to hang out in the backyard called special home. One question, how about in raining weather, is there a canopy over the spa to keep from direct rain on spa/turtles? I see they can hide out under cover on basin net.

Those Turtles look happy :) Its such a lovely place for them you have built.
I'd love to see you flesh out the decorations! It's always a matter of personal opinion, but I think I'd add some stones in one basking corner, put real or fake plants in the other basking corner, make it a super interesting environment. I love the DIY of this though, and great use of something that would've otherwise be stuck in a landfill!!

Great idea. I saw a spa tub that I wanted as an upgrade for my turtle pond. It was full of garbage outside of a burnt down abandoned cracking house. I don't need that bad.

I am pretty sure they can climb on top of each other to escape. Turtles like to stack on top of each other.Btw you might want to put some sort of wheels below it to move it in and out. Some predators , birds and stuff might catch their eyes on them.

I was looking at a flat bucket sylte pond $175... picked up a 2mx2m spa with multi levels built in I guess for seating..never had chemicals through the new pipes n pumps..going to hook to solar for few hours a day pit a nice grill and wood top on it and make it self sustaining as much as possible until I can have it in the ground 😊
Spa $100 even could use it for the summer if I wanted to haha considering I was looking at a tent a few months ago life's starting look like 5 star to me haha😊

Really Awesome! Only thing I would suggest is a ramp from the basking area to the water. Let me know if you have one and I just didn't see it!
Put a heat lamp in the box for days and nights it gets cold. Otherwise great pond idea.

those turtles are amazing climbers i had one of the same and it climbed a wall 14 inches high i had setup . maybe put another 2x4 ontop of the lip so they cant grab it. but you know if it will keep them in or not im sure. cheers love the setup

Love the setup, but I think I would have used the jets as part of the water filer system with and external pump going to a bog filter system. Which you can make out of your current filter, plus you can hide the pump under your setup.
we were going to do that but i can't remember there was a problem with doing it that way unfortunately
Lucky turtles!!! Be careful if you get heavy rain that it does not overflow and the turtles get out.
it has holes drilled into the sides so water won't go past that point

This is so cool but one thing you should have done is get green pond liner and put it in where the white is
unnecessary work plus it would make it look like its all full of algae. I'm planning on putting some rock on the bottom for a more natural look

this was designed for practicality not aesthetics
lol it looks great in my yard but that is not the point. it is for the animals not your opinion on how pretty it has to be id rather have something like this that is easy to maintain and care for the turtles that they enjoy over having them in a small tank. if you would show me something of yours that is better id love to see?..
I cannot load pictures on g+ without a website but I have used the same method but had it sunk into the ground with live plants and a hidden filter creating a waterfall I have my tanks shown on my g+ account but I seem to be being an ass... 😔 im ashamed sorry
If you wanna try placing dirt under the astroturf and sprinkling grass seed I think you would enjoy the grass as the turtles will to they munch it alot
Or even sprinkling bird seed and keeping it short try pebbling the bottom or sand is nice big and small rocks and a few ferns for a natural habitat you might enjoy as well as the turtles

another good idea would be to add a small trash can or two or a planter pot in the water so they have somewhere to hide

Thats great. Pretty much a perfect setup. Do you have a heater in the filter or is it warm enough? Tempted to add some nice sand or pebbles to finish off the look?
no heater it gets warm enough here and pebbles may work good
You should add a hiding spot for your fish so they aren't always harassed by the turtles.
they have spots to hide and the turtles don't bother them anymore anyway

Nice outside idea! Can you tell me how warm the water gets from the sun? I'm just wondering if the lighter inside helps keep the water from getting too warm?
an old spa tub would have never have thought of doing that myself! you did a great job! where do you live? as much as i would love to be able to do this and unless i had an enclosed large room i'd never be able to since i live in NY lol
