I’ve owned a nice Kenmore front loaded washing machine which has been running very well for 13 years. It just lost power last week…
Following your instruction I could fix the exact problem by myself. After replacing the right resistor which I got from a local electronic outlet store the sweet power sound came back on again. And it cost me only 60 cents instead of calling out for service which may cost a lot more. Thanks again.

This worked. Control board was mounted in the back of the machine and was square instead of rectangular, but otherwise looked somewhat similar. Spinning the drum counter-clockwise lit up the screen. Bought the 5W 4.7 ohm wire wound cement resistor and soldered it in replacing the resistor in the white sleeve next to the fuse. Machine works like new again. This saved a 14-year-old machine that otherwise worked perfectly, and they no longer even manufacture the replacement control board for it. I souced a used control board which turned out to be DOA, so I returned the dead board i bought and as a last resort before buying a new machine attempted this fix on the original control board, reinstalled it, and it works great. Thanks!

Thanks for the guide. My model is a WD14023D6 (more like the model on the right that you didn’t disassemble). The resistor in the same position on my model is a 220 Ohm (Red Red Brown Gold) rather than a 4.7k. I measured it with a multimeter and it had 0 ohms resistance. I replaced it and the machine is now working. My model has a brace across the bottom panel so I needed to remove the door assembly as well to gain access to the PCB. Bit more work, but not a bad result for $0.68! Thanks again.

Just a follow up, Mr Washy Washy. Now that I think about it...resistors do not usually burn out (they are not fuses). And there are others videos out there illustrating that a fix can be had by holding the on/off and pause buttons for 5 sec each in sequence (whilst unplugged) resets the machine. Would you care to elaborate or comment on this, please?

Our machine is like the model on the right side..
Things lite up and sometimes appears the code lack of power and sometimes hall sensor defect..
Machine allows water coming in and also pumps it out,, apart from that it's gone bananas.
I'm living in Brazil and in our region there are no trustful mechanics available,,
However we had one who said that the hall sensor is ok (even while the error appears). The wire looks neat no visible defects as I can see,, now the mechanic said it's the pcb board and 2 pumps need to be replaced.
Wonder if the machine has 2 pumps, but even if true one of them is working.
Do you have a suggestion where to go from here ??

We leveled ours and it is working at the lightest touch like new. Installation was done incorrectly. Before you call someone do the ThinQ as we did. It helps to diagnose problems. You for sure know it’s not the expensive parts, which the people who looked at it wanted to replace.

If the resister is blown but the lights don’t come on when you spin the drum does it still make sense to replace the resistor?

I have an older model: WM2016CW - I have to unplug it to reset it, then once it's reset it'll run a cycle fine. After the cycle it powers off again until I unplug it. After I reset it, spinning the drum will power the unit on. When it needs a reset, then spinning the drum doesn't fix it. Is it possible it's a resistor like this? Do you have any idea what that resistor does?
My model has the MCB at the back, top left. This "need to unplug to reset" problem seems to be pretty common, but I can't find anyone who knows why or what on the MCB is causing the problem.

Mr. Washy, I have the same problem with a bad resistor. I physically checked the resistor and it was fried and cracked. Are all the resistors have the same value (5W 4.7ohms) at that location as mentioned in your video. My main board is EBR74282001. Please advise.

Hey Mr Washy, I have a WM3997HWA Front Load Washer/Dryer Combo, Mine failed right at the start of a Wash cycle, so the Drum has water in it, I did Drain it, but Im unable to spin the Drum fast enough to get any leds flash. Have you repaired any of these 2in1s before? Should I try the Same thing seen in this Video?

Hi it should be the same principle. The direct drive motor is what will power the board when you turn it by hand. If still under warranty contact Lg for repair. If not check the power board. Yours should be at the back at the top. Usually if it does not light up when you rotate by hand you might need a new board

I'm having the same issue on a 2007 Whirlpool duet dryer, have you done any "cheap fix" videos on them. Id rather not buy a new/used control board.

Interesting. Have you been able to determine what is wrong with the resistor? I can count on one hand in my 50 years of electronics that a resistor has actually failed. And normally when they do it is very obvious because of the charred remains. I didn't see anything wrong with the one you clipped out so I am just curious if you were able to diagnose it any further. Was it open? Did it change value? Just curious what the failure actually is. Good video, it will help a lot of people save some money. I have the same problem with a Kenmore and while it is a different control board, it has an elevated and sheathed resistor just like yours. I will pull it out and see what I can find but I am sure hoping this fix applies to my situation as well. Thanks for the video.

@@Glenn_123 No it dod not. I took it out and measured it and it was not open. I couldn’t determine anything to be defective with it. Due the price of the board and age of the washer I bought a new set.

I pulled my PCB and tested the resistor with a multi-meter and it was fine, but one of the fuses on the mainboard had blown. I am going to replace that and see if it resolves my issues. If it blows again, I will know I have a problem elsewhere.

I have the model on the right. Today all of a sudden water was leaking from the bottom of the washer. Mopped it all up. Cleaned the filter and the drain hose that connects to under the sink. Tried it again on a short wash and again im getting water leaking out from bottom and its at the start of the wash.
I also have a noisy drum.
Its out of its 5 yr warranty but it's still within the "10yr direct drive warranty"
Id appreciate any help as im not in the position for a new washer dryer.
    I have emailed LG.
Ive had a noisy drum for few weeks now but water only started leaking today
