Ty for covering this! It’s pretty hard to find English information on Japanese DQ’s. I think they developed this for when they shut down the servers one day. Having this means if they decide to pull the plug on online they will still have all DQX easily available for re-release with minimal dev time and no server requirements.
There also talk two more chapters will be added after the one next year. So this potentially will go up to chapter 3 or 4. As for who it's for. It's more game preservation. Most mmos go offline, forgotten and nothing to remember it by. Dqx now does. Saying that now we need a ffxi offline.
I'm currently playing this on Switch and enjoying it so far. The reason I downloaded this is that unofficial English patch finally came out, and I can finally play this in English (mostly). Highly recommended, especially for all DQ fans.
I'd be happy even if they released a subpar, text-only translation of this. It's always rubbed me the wrong way that there's a DQ game that I can't play because of the language barrier.
Honestly I'm not super interested in Guilds or Player Housing. I just want to experience the world and the story because I love Dragon Quest. if i had friends who lived my the same time zone as me who wanted to play, then sure, the Online game would be great. But I don't, no one I know irl knows/cares about MMO's aside from Warcraft or FFXIV. I'm not especially keen on paying a monthly subscription(and can't really justify the $15ish a month on it, especially if i take a break to play something else or can't play for a couple weeks or whatever), even when I DO get fully fluent in Japanese so i can properly enjoy everything (working on it!). So frankly, this offline version is perfect and kinda exactly what I want/need. And I'm sure there are plenty of others in a similar boat as me.
I actually got this on steam. Just changed region, bought it, play it. The graphics are fantastic on it! I also use software to trans8most the game. Also they are adding a chapter in a few months if you bought the upgrade.
Won't lie, in 2012, I learned of DQ10, I always wanted to play it, and I still do. It's still sad that they haven't released it over to the west, and though this version makes me feel like it's a bootleg, I still want it since I've been a long time fan to the Dragon Quest, but if it's true that they aren't going to release it to here...well it makes me feel heartbroken...
I'm playing on switch and ps5. Totally worth it guys. I'm totally gonna jump back into DQ10 online soon. Such great games but yes it would be way better if we could just play in English.
There's a couple things the Offline version provides that might be incentives: 1. Voice acting for V1 and V2 2. The ability to suspend your game whenever without logging out/in to the server 3. "Pick up and play" portability without an Internet connection I recently started and had the choice between Offline and Online (trial) and went for Offline for these reasons. Nothing against MMOs (I am a long time active FF14 player), and I hope to transfer my character to Online whenever Offline ends its updates (I'm assuming there won't be anything past V2).
DQX offline has the same profile customisation system than PSO 1 on dreamcast or DQ9 on ds. This is real my friends. Really real. We live in the year 2022.
PSO's customization is nothing at all like DQ IX or X. In PSO you make your character from limited options at the start, and the only visuals changes you can make afterwards are your weapons and MAGs. You can pay a fee of I think it was 10,000 Meseta to change your character after you make it, but that's it. In DQ IX and X they have full customization. Armor visually changes your character like an MMO RPG (I know X is an MMO, but IX isn't). Also would just like to point out that PSO is my favorite games of all time, and DQ IX is my second favorite of all time lol So, I like that you mentioned both, I just don't think the customization is the same at all.
Thankfully it isn't as bad as during the Dark Age of DQ where we got nothing at all. Yes this is annoying, but it could be a lot worse when you think about how it was during Dec. 1992 to Jan. 2000.
Yeah I’ve been saying this for years. I’ve heard people say there’s not enough of a fanbase in the west but that’s simply not true. 1. The success of XI proved there’s plenty of people ready to own any Dragon Quest Square is willing to release in the west and 2. Square knows there’s enough of a fanbase to release every damn spin-off(Builders, Treasures, Heroes, Monsters and Infinity Strash) but they gate keep the mainline series. It makes zero sense! I just hope the remakes of 1,2 and 3 outsell their expectations and maybe they’ll finally see they’ve been screwing over the western audiences.
I heard we didn't get 10 because they didn't want to have to localize it with each update... but that doesn't make much sense. They can simply choose to not update it if it's not a success. If it is a success, and it makes enough to profit plus further fund localization, problem solved. I hope at some point they wrap up the updates, localize it and get it out here to the West. If it has enough content, nobody will mind too much if updates have ceased after over a decade of support. We'll take it! Let's goooooo!
Because dragon quest is niche in the west and most likely reason why we don't get the offline version is because it works as a glorified advertisement for the mmo
You mentioned twice the announcement trailer at the anniversary stream said "not for international audiences" but that is incorrect, maybe you should add a note to the video. You probably got it mixed with the announcement of DQX online version 6, that one had the disclaimer. DQX offline just didn't mention anything about an international release. I'm pretty sure they plan to localize the game at some point, every other mainline game came over. I don't know why people act like this never happened before, this is just usual DQ fare, DQVII and VIII on the 3DS took years to be localized. They are probably waiting until X Offline has all the planned content released before bringing it over.
I only have 1 question since this game is currently on sale Is it worth getting even if you don’t speak Japanese but have access to a live translation app?
@@ProjectCOE It is as you said, this game only makes sense for international release to at least experience the story outside of Japan, yet they are holding this one back as well. Does not make sense to me at all.
I honestly think the jrpg genre isn't as widely beloved as we fans would hope. Square basically admits this by focusing on either gacha, rereleases of old things or action-rpg in FF and KH for the worldwide and western audiences.
I just started this, just got reincarnated as a fishman. So... there are 4 other races each with unique scenario... am I supposed to replay this game for NG++++ again and again? How long is 1 playthrough?
started dqx online and it's cool and all but i'm less jazzed about the combat, this looks better to me in that regard. folks say that this game was designed just as an ad for the online mode, that sorta deflates the hope of a western release. i know there is now some fan translations happening but can't play those without a hacked switch or emulation which is janky.
Yeah I can see why some people say that. I don't think I would go that far myself, but certainly it isn't complete and as such you feel like you're missing out on something grander, and well, to be honest, you are.
Is this Chibi version a different game completely to DQX or is this in DQX the normal game im really thinking about buying the ps5 version and just drilling the translate into my brain till i memorise the text

It's hard to say because in Japan X is a 10 year old game right now, and is very much designed to be an MMO. While the developers did a great job with this conversion, I look at it like X Online is available right now and everything offered in this game is available for free via the Online trial so I'm not sure if this will be considered a flop or not. We would need to see if more people are jumping into X Online, which is precisely what they want you to do after you finish this game. As for the localization, I don't think it will make a different myself.
I just ordered this on ebay and it disappointed me to hear its not that good . But I am from America , so I can't experience the good version . Good video though .
I was hoping they would have announced it last year, but since they didn't, I'm not holding my breath for a release in English, at least not officially.

DQ is following a traditional JRPG the medieval fairy tale world that they won't let westerners BS demands ruins it.
