freepieanchipsgarage thing is though we don’t rely on Americans to finance it, Discovery chose to invest in it and continue to do so because of its popularity (popularity that was gained in the U.K.) - clearly the old formula worked.
in South Africa there was an XR8 with a Windsor V8 Ford motor in very limited numbers. That was the only one here with that double rear spoiler. The rest had the boring engines except for the archaic but nippy Essex V6 Ford engine. This is suprising that they called it Merkur in US

My buddy had one of these in high school that was rode hard and put away wet. Iv driven a lot of cool cars but I don’t think any of them made me laugh so hard while driving banging through the gears lol. I always wanted to build one of these motors out and put it in a notchback fox. Ultimate sleeper
Great series and Ant is great. I hope people will give Ant a fair chance, I am a fan Mr. China but still enjoy the show. Would prefer it in UK but such is life. Mike has achieved a lot and continued success to all working on the show.

Old cars are so easy to work on if this was a new car it would take ages to get the grill and bumper off
You clearly don’t work on cars for a living like I do mate I can take the bumpers of practically all modern cars within 30 mins & that’s on vehicles I’ve yet to have much experience on.. the ones I’m familiar with can be off within 10-15 mins easy. If your talking from experience (which I highly doubt you are) it sounds like you need abit more practise my old mate🤷🏻♂️👍

@@insertnamehere5146 You sir are absolutely correct, I have never "drove a xr4i". I have however owned an XR4TI since March 2017. Which is the car this video is about. I like to watch videos about other Merkurs and then trash talk my piece of junk car in the comments. Piss off. These cars had a ton of problems INCLUDING AN ENGINE HEAD THAT IS KNOWN TO CRACK. Ask me how I know.

Ford Made in Germany 🇩🇪 for Merkur ( Mercury) . The Sierra name was not allowed in the USA because GMC were already using the name.

This episode annoys me, at the beginning Mike says he could probably sell the shell for more than he paid for the car because of the lack of sunroof, they do all the work and then sell the car to someone who only wants it for the shell. Why didn't they just fake sell it to an enthusiast like they normally do.
Stripping it down and selling just the shell won’t really create entertainment for enthusiasts. Don’t forget Mike and Ant get some aid handsomely for wasting their time because their efforts create an hours worth of television.

Mike, as so often is misinformed. This is not a potential competition shell. No one raced the XR4ti and the 3 dr Sierra has a different shell . Like all car dealers the truth sometimes evades him.
Andy Rouse won the 1985 BTCC in an XR4Ti.
@@PieAndChips Ok, Wesley, I stand corrected but when did you ever see mention of anyone using that awful Merkur shell for a base for a racing sierra ?
@@MrNigave It's no better or worse than the 2 door 1.6GL that formed the basis for the RS500, which wasn't a particular great shell
@@PieAndChips XR4Ti- wolf racing in Germany raced them and so did Eggenberger in 1986. As well as the great Andy Rouse.
@@PieAndChips Not to forget that the Ford Sierra racing program benefitted from the XR4ti being raced as they Cosworth Sierras were being developed. "909" chassis reinforcements that were required for safety here in the US were added to the Cosworth racers for structural rigidity.
