Darla (Parker Posey) and the seniors terrorize the freshmen girls with "air raid" drills and condiments.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Like George Lucas' American Graffiti, Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused is an affectionate look at the youth culture of a bygone era. While Lucas took aim at the conservative 1950's, Linklater jumps ahead a generation to the bicentennial year of 1976 to celebrate the joys of beer blasts, pot smoking and Frampton Comes Alive. Set on the last day of the academic year, the film follows the random activities of a sprawling group of Texas high schoolers as they celebrate the arrival of summer, their paths variously intersecting at a freshmen hazing, a local pool parlor and finally at a keg party.

The best thing about this movie for me is how some guys do bad things, like Don saying that degrading stuff, but later in the film he throws the beer to that kid. It's exactly like real life.. there's no straight line between good and bad characters, people are a mix.
You have the gamut. You have the ones who are reluctant to haze, the ones who haze but see it as just a ritual, and the ones who really want to be mean.
Just cuz you say degrading stuff like that as a joke doesn’t mean you’re a bad guy. I mean this is pretty obvious.

That part is very realistic, you have the seniors you are scared of and then theirs the cool one who is chill with freshman and is friends with all the different cliques

Expelled, fined, jail, counselling. Bullying is wrong, there is no excuse for it. And these freshmen "initiation" practices are traumatizing, degrading, they lower self esteem and promote anxiety, ptsd, depression and aggressive behavior. No wonder so many kids show up at school with a gun and shoot everyone from the roof! And anyone who enjoys the suffering of others has some serious issues!

High School is dead, After so many years we forget who we use to know back then.
This really shows both sides to the seniors. One, them being assholes bit having to do so because of initiation traditions. Two, them being normal teens and understanding what the freshmen are going through because they already went through these traditions

I met the redhead girl at 0:06 last nite! I was at the 20th anniversary of Dazed & Confused after party standing outside of the building & these 2 attractive older women come out & are kinda giddy & they start talking to me. she asked "so what's your connection? are you famous or do you just have really good hair?" I said "no, I just won a ticket for this at work & I love the movie." and she says "I was in it!" & told me how she was the redhead girl that fries like bacon. she's blonde now :(

American Graffiti of the 90's. I went to high school in the 80s, so this was about ten years before my time, but I don't remember any of this hazing stuff taking place or even any tension between seniors and freshman. I'd have cut their brake lines if anyone tried pulling that shit on me. Then we'd see who had the last laugh : )

My grandfather came from Greece and went to school there. Every night he got at least two hours of homework and this was when he was in year 1. In high school he went to a elite private school in Athens that was run by the government between 1950 to 1956. If you even looked at a teacher in a way they didn't like they'd hit you with a leather belt, 10 times on each hand. No joke. And this is my RUclips account from high school

so my 10yr old doesnt want to go to highschool and asks me all the time if when she finishes elementary can she please just home school? well i think i will show her this movie and tell her that although its not like this anymore its still just such a fun social structure and i would love for her to experience it just as it is! but these days they have to worry about a crazed kid coming into school with a gun and ruining it all for them and thats just sad. thats in fact the only reason that i support her getting out of school as fast as possible.

It was freaking awesome, although it was somewhat unpleasant, it really made you feel like you had made that step up and it felt kinda cool. When you get to do it to other people its amazing as well, trust me don't listen to other people, this shit was awesome.

In America you guys are allowed to get away with shit and hardly do actual schoolwork. In Australia, we still have corporal punishment in some states. I graduated in 2008 and I got a 92 in my HSC , which is the Australian equivalent of the SATs. In junior school and year 7 and 8 if someone acted up they'd be sent to the headmaster and they'd often come back crying and not be able to sit down. I was scared of my teachers so I worked hard. If we did this at our school, you'd rather commit suicide than face Mr. Harrington

In the schools where I live, freshmen are told to dance by large groups of seniors and juniors. Sometimes they get pied in the face with shaving cream(also done or birthdays and at the end of the year parties).

Class of 78, and this kind of abuse would never have happened at my high school, thank goodness. The school administrators wouldn't have allowed it, the senior girls would not have been this nasty (especially in front of their boyfriends!) and if they'd tried, the freshmen would have told them to go piss up a rope.
