    Great never knew about the pushrod, have used an old ball bearing with a drift, thanks for sharing Phil, super.

      Yes my old buddy has an oil pump ball brazed to a rod as well. Few different ways but all the same outcome!

    The aluminum oil pump was not installed on a big twin until 1968.
    All Flatheads, Knucks & Pans were cast iron.

      They still have the same spring and ball in early cast iron pumps 👍🏻

    I've replaced the ball, spring, did the tapping trick and also lapped inside the oil pump where the check ball sits and still no luck. I even swapped out with another oil pump and it is still spewing oil out the crankcase breather. Stumped here.

    Sometimes my shovel sumps and sometimes it doesn’t. But I’m always paranoid and put a pan under it if I haven’t fired it up in a while

      Yeah you must need to replace the ball. Must be worn.
