Oh my goodness, thank you so much for committing to a particular product! Incredibly helpful. This is exactly the project that I was trying to cobble together information for, and you have it in one great video, thank you so much!
Of all the bird bath videos I've seen, yours is the best. Where do you get your molds? I really want to try this. Also, what size do you use for your bird baths? Thank you for sharing!
Love your videos and ideas. Just curious if I could put a piece of PVC pipe in the center to avoid having to drill the concrete later. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.
Yes, you can add PVC in the casting. It may cause bleed through of one color to another if casting in multiple colors. If you are experienced in casting concrete molds, there is no reason not to try it.
Hi Mark, Clear coating definitely adds a richness and depth. The two colors I was working with for that area were brown tones: Buff and Brown. I didn't want to detract from a concrete statue which is a gray-brown I placed them next to. I did more sunflowers using brown for the "seed" area with a bright-yellow powder mix for the "floral" part the sunflower. I did seal them, making them a richer yellow. They look pretty cool. Anyway, I am going to use them on a short pathway approach to a cinder block and stucco pedestal I am working on. I am not quite sure when I will finish the video, but I hope you can watch it. The yellow and brown sunflowers should be at the end of the video when I show the pedestal and its final decorations. Thanks for watching and liking the video. Regards, Tom
Just found your channel last night. Great video! Thanks for sharing this! Some great tips - especially the one using the fan! I had to laugh though because we have a massager from the 80's that's very similar to the one you used! It's been sitting in a closet for eons but will now have a useful purpose, even if it's not the one it was intended for! 😀

I just came back to ask the same question. I've looked all over the internet for THESE MOLDS. Thank you, but it doesn't look like they are available anymore. 😒 That liquid color is also over $7 a bottle.
Hello Tom! I came across your channel while searching for DIY fountain ideas, and love your bird baths. I’d love to try making a sunflower one out of a pot similar to yours. What type of concrete colorant do you use and where did you purchase it from? Thank you ! New subscriber and love your water features.
Quikrete colorant is available at most DIY centers. In my area, I can find red, charcoal, buff, and terra cotta. If you want some really exotic colors, E-Bay and Amazon have sellers that offer them. Quikrete comes in a liquid, whereas many others are in a dry or powdered state.
Beautiful!🥰 I want to make one for a birdbath like you did! Do you think it would work to put a short price of PVC pipe in the middle while I am filling it with concrete so I won’t need to drill a hole in the middle later?
@@curiouslass4280 Cut the PVC and place it in the mold where you intend for it to be. If it lays flat, that's great. If you feel you could pour one color and let it set and add another color without knocking the pvc cutting around while adding the second color mix on top of the first, then you are good to go. Best wishes on your project!

Quikrete Cement Colorant. It colors all of the cement in the concrete. What is nice about using colorant is that when the concretion, or in this case the sunflower, either chips or wears down, the colorant is embedded throughout the cement. Therefore, it retains its dyed color and does not reveal gray cement as would chipped or worn-out paint. Here is where brown colorant is added to the water prior to mixing it into the concrete where it will color all the cement in that mix: 1:50 (around one minute fifty seconds of this video)
