    You could use some pvc pipe in the middle of the base to make it lighter and save concrete if ya wanted

    Nice job. I’ve made similar pieces using cement, perlite and peat, a mixture called hypertufa which is much lighter than 100% cement. I’ve made bird baths and planters, a couple have lasted 20+/- years.

      Ive been debating between hypertufa and cement for a birdbath. Leaning to cement due to porosity and water evaporation. Do you think it makes a difference? Im completely new to this so id love your opinion!

    Thanks...would it work to embed some glass marbles around the rim? I assume a full mosaic would not work because it would end up on the underside of the bird bath where it would not be visible. But just on the outside between the inner and outer plate, pressing them in once the middle plate was pressed into place?

    What about something to use for a mould for a taller base? A tall traffic cone was my 1st thought, but it's too small at the top to balance the bath portion. If you could fill the very top with something so the the concrete doesn't go to the smallest section at the top, maybe? IDK, just thinking of what I can use for taller moulds for base. I'm sure someone will figure out a taller mould.

    • @GrowWithKit

    Hello, I’m making a bird bath of similar shape/size. I want to lay mosaic tiles on inside of bowl and around rim. How long should it cure before I stick the tiles on so that it sticks well and doesn’t sink in cement. I figure I’d have to lay the tile inside the bowl and place the drip tray and weight back on top to ensure it doesn’t flatten. Any thoughts/tips are appreciated!

    Can you paint concrete ?

    • @debragrieve9402
      @debragrieve9402 6 месяцев назад +1

      You can. Ask for masonry paint. You can also add colorant for cement during mixing, or there are products for staining concrete. I think your stains can be almost any color. Unlike color additives while mixing. Paint sits on top of the surface, but stain penetrates the surface. I hope this helps.

    • @GrowWithKit
      @GrowWithKit  6 месяцев назад

      Yes you can, just make sure you clean all the dust and residue off and let it fully dry. It doesn’t have to be masonry paint but it is the best. I’ve used fence paint and various spray paints, all seem fine on the concrete.

He recalls a time someone on the worksite was working with their feet in the concrete w/o proper footwear (something like tall rubber boots I imagine), and by the time they noticed something was wrong, they got to kiss all their skin from the ankles down goodbye.
