      @Clemmy Magee White people are a bit crazy as in there is always this guy or girl that somehow had it in their mentality of freedom to find something he/she excels in. But you'll see other traits like that also in Asian populations like in China. But I believe it has to do with culture, aside from using the qualities a person possesses or aspects that might work better in your gene pool.

      Notice that nose-clip? He makes a breathing-out action without releasing air. That equalises the pressure on the inner ear. He will need to do it several times on the way down.
      As for pressure on the body: We are mostly water ourselves and our internal organs are nearly always saturated. There is not much to get compressed.
      That's not to say it does not require practice. Lots of practice and then some more. That guy is fit.

      I've been spending the last decade in South Florida/The FL Keys... So vastly different, being a huge, shallow shelf that goes for miles before you hit depths even half of what he hit right off the shore!

      @@DaanVerhoeven that was coral? U don't get untaxed mistakes swimming through that from my 2nd hand knowledge. I wanna know how he trained for that? Surely u don't just jump in there head first without knowing the layout of the tunnels and landscape. And surely he made a few mistakes before perfecting his performance. Truly that was a performance complete with editing and obviously some money behind it. Also, was that some kind of breathing apparatus attached through his nasal?
      All around clever and original. Nice work.

    • @DaanVerhoeven
      @DaanVerhoeven  5 лет назад +7

      @@pilgrimsprogress1427 Thank you for giving this some thought. Of course we scouted the dive well beforehand. There's coral around that canyon, but the canyon itself is rock - mainly because it's a popular scuba location, so the coral has been scraped away by tanks. The reef around is in good condition, though.
      Stig did the dive numerous times, we divided it into 3 segments, shallow, medium and deep, so he could adjust how deeply he'd breath in. He only scraped himself once on the shoulder during the 10 days we filmed.
      No budget, we filmed after his training in Blue Hole, 500 meters south of this spot. We were both there for a freediving competition, this was our side project. I like working on no budget, take the risk to see if the movie will sell. Stig and i have done several films this way.
      No breathing apparatus either, we're both professional freedivers, and are well aware of how dangerous it would be to inhale compressed air at this depth. You'd never be able to swim up from 32 meters on compressed air without a decompression stop.
