I feel with so little coupes left this car in 2024 still holds it’s own. I have a 2017 Accord 6-6 Coupe and I still love the look of a coupe along with its power, don’t like the artificial sound & love the N/A V6 in the J35 Unfortunately with the decay of most cities infrastructure any car with even 45 series rubber , your getting flats all the freakin time. I have had 3 flat tires in the last 2 yrs so I find myself wanting a SUV and I don’t even have kids.
Thanks for reviewing my car! I will say, you're spot on most points - these cars are definitely way overpriced if you buy them new. However, if you manage to get one used like I did, for around $30k, and then modify it, they are absolute gems. The reason why is because you can make tremendous power with these platforms with just a few bolt-ons and a tune. Even adding lowered suspension and swapping tires makes a huge difference. You really do have to modify these cars to unlock their true potential.
@@Ecuador006 the TLX TYPE S is a full half second slower than the Q50RS which is already an old car in it’s own right. it’s already fallen into the same trap the Q50RS is, over priced, bland, slower than it’s competitors in it’s price bracket(BMW M340i, MBZ c43, AUDI S4 ETC) And for what the same interior that you would see in a accord Or a aging MDX. Nah no thanks
Certified pre-owned Q60 owner here…. -still looks relevant -I’m 52 so I’m not looking for a race but great performance when needed -turns heads and constantly get asked what is it But if I was shopping new it would not top my list.
I had 2010 G37 coupe and loved it. Just got a 2022 Q60 Luxe and loving it also. I agree the steering is numb but after a day I got used to it. That and the lack of ventilated seats are the only serious downsides. I’m 71 and enjoy spirited driving but I’m no longer street racing at my age so this is plenty fast enough. IMO styling, performance, quality and comfort are all first rate in this car. Plan to keep this at least 4-5 years before replacing.
I’m a Q50RS owner, and i can tell you, Matt you are 100% spot on everything is done well and balance well in terms of comfort, quality and speed. Until the prices are said then everything falls apart. My car i bought used it’s a 2018 and it is 31k out the door and it’s CPO with warranties. thats when these cars start to make sense even the LUXE trim q50’s and q60’s. And the tuning potential, sharing parts with the Z makes it super easy to improve a lot of the handling gripes this car has
I think the only issue is the bmw x40is are simply better. You can get those used for cheap too. Only reason I would get one of these is if I liked the looks which I dont. To each their own.
@@masonbuck3210 I have a modded q50s and my brother has a modded 340i. I would say if you want more of raw driving experience go bmw but if you want more smooth go q50. We race all the time and go on long drives and swap cars. When I get back in my car I feel I made the right choice for me. If you want to track it bmw if not it’s all preferences
How does tuning improve the performance? My 04 G35x does 1.06 on the corners. I think oem it was around 0.89. Slammed on coilovers, 3 clicks from full stiff and some hankook tires is all it needs to handle like its on rails. How is a G35 relevant to this Q60? That if you can greatly improve an old car with modifications, a newer car can do better
@@TheNgp90 You can make these Infinitis track cars. Handling mods. Get yourself a good set of coilovers, sway bars, strut bars and tires. And you'll run laps around your brother's BMW. My G35 turns like a race car by being lowered and being almost on full stiff. When people slow down for curves, i gas it and hold on. Yeah, the oem seats can hold me in lol
They’re also good used car value. It’s just the brand has been ruined to me. Here in Los Angeles every douche has one with an extremely loud aftermarket exhaust and drive recklessly.

@@WarPigRS I agree I would not buy this car for 65k, although the interior does feels like 65k. This car is so close to being a great car it's frustrating. If it had a better trans, improved handling/steering feel, and a sportier exhaust it could be something special.
I'd also love to get a general idea of the main power mods (especially the brand/type tune) that allowed you to knock about 3 seconds off the stock 13-13.5 1/4 time on stock turbos. Is it just tune and bolt-ons, or any engine work done?
@@TheLawIX I've got my mk7 Golf R down to 11.51 on stock turbo and motor with 93 Oct. That's not so hard to believe. But mid 10s on a 4000lb q50s with stock turbos? Torque starts becoming a serious issue with E85 on the VR30 platform (580+wheel torque), need to detune to keep stock drivetrain happy. Stock turbos are basically a peak capacity around 19PSI. Need pures to push more. Also for anyone reading this, you can easily get 5-6k off sticker for a new RS, even in current market. I've paid around 57K for my last two both around 63k sticker.
In response to question 1, in Hartford County CT, you see a TON of Q sedans, a significant portion of which have at least one of the following 1. Muffler delete 2. Rimz/slammed suspension 3. Plastidip/fake carbon No clue how many are Red sports and they all drive like a$$holes. You can get a used Red Sport near me for under $40k
I’m in the same area. Hartford born and raised. I have a Q50 SS. Full 3inch down pipes full 3inch exhaust and turbo inlet tubes factory intakes cause there good. Not slammed. That shit is weird and car looks fairly stock. Once it’s tuned I’ll make around 430-450 whp. That’s good power for a car that’s unsuspecting. And I kill scars and M3s all day. Car handles great and it has the same awd system as the GTR. Rear drive biased and it surprises everyone.
My fave: They have all of these "mods" but, they "don't have time" to put a ceramic coat on the vehicle nor wash it properly, so when you get the right kind of sunlight hitting them, it looks like someone took sandpaper to the side of the vehicle... Bought a 2017 Q50 RS for $22,000 with 38k miles in RWD a couple years ago. Came with the AMS ethanol kit. Yes I’ve had to spend quite a bit to get the body repairs done just right, had some trial and error with a couple lousy body shops until I found the right guys here in OC CA. But all in all, after getting the repairs done and setting up a stage two AMS fbo kit running on an e30 ecutek tune, I’ve spent a grand total of about 37-38k. It has four maps, pushing 450 whp on map 3. Was this car worth spending 38k? Without a doubt in my mind it was. This thing is an absolute beast and still runs great.
They need to refresh this based on the 2023 Z. Needs a manual/9 speed auto, updated infotainment and all digital cluster. The exterior is drop dead sexy. Just needs some updates.
Matt the true OG Car guy on youtube!!!! and Zac always on point since u have brought em on, much credit had to write this been here since first gen raptor u bought
Good review and I've got to agree as a G37 Sedan owner. It's a GT that acts as a jack of all trades but master of none. Enough power to have fun, handles well enough and is very comfortable to cruise with. This is not a race car and never was designed to be one. The price is just too much though. I'll pick one up on the used market down the line.
And these cars last a LONG time without any major repairs. Buying a lightly used one, like a previously leased vehicle about 3 years old, is the sweet spot.
I feel that the FM Platform, though old, is still a very relevant platform. It just needs to be infused with lighter materials, the suspension needs to be tuned a bit better from the factory, and the steering needs to be thoroughly updated.
@@LafemmebearMusic aluminum double wishbone and multilink rear, what else can you ask for? Maybe better shock tuning. It was ahead of its time when it came out and even chargers and mustangs still don’t use any aluminum suspension components.
@@LafemmebearMusic it needs some love to be sure but Nissan has continually updated the platform it’s still pretty solid. I mean it underpins the gtr as well so at least for the price point it plays in it isn’t that bad.
Still one of the sexiest exterior designs out there. Almost Italian in they its flares is beauty for all to see. Drives meh but you can’t help but look back it every time you walk away in a sunset.
Upshifts are instant with power, except that traction control seems to interrupt the change to 3rd occasionally. Turning T/C off or short-shifting slightly fixes that. When you back off the shift is noticeably slower. Downshifts are not that different from any BMW/ZF I have experienced...slow. I could never describe the steering as slow in Sport or Sport+. It is hyper-comfy and a joy to own and drive. But it is an 8/10ths car. But 6/10ths is massively faster than any other car on road and is border-line dangerous! However, I have had mine for 4 years and I plan to keep it for many more years. In the UK I can't find anything to replace it tbh, not without spending silly money on throw away cars or stupidly priced EVs.
Infiniti really mailing this in. Aside from the engine, this whole car is so dated. Chassis, infotainment, transmission. I remember being wooed by a G37 back in 2010. This is 2022. Also, your point about the nomenclature is so true. When you said the Q60 was coming, I really thought you were talking about an SUV.
I owned a G35 coupe and M37S sedan. They were great cars. Infiniti hasn’t developed the lineup in 10 years. The infotainment after 2013 is trash. The colors are minimal. It saddens me to see the company doing so poorly.
These are japanese TUNER cars. Anything and everything can be upgraded. Buy a tesla infotainment tablet style system for the Q on ebay. Turbos, coilovers, body kits, downpipes, tune, exhaust, everything you can nitpick about there's a mod that can improve the performance than any oem system that includes those on supercars. These hit 9s and 535whp with bolt ons on stock turbos..
@@pattisonvidal3909 Only an idiot buys new. Especially when any car depreciates 40 percent in the first years. These cars cost $25k used. And you upgrade. Aftermarket always has better AND more powerful systems
I'd like to know who at Infiniti trashed the company by giving up their spot as modern Japanese BMW competitor and decided to develop shit like steer by wire instead
@@papa_pt I almost hate to break it to you, but the "new" Z is the old Z with the engine out of this Red Sport. The chassis of the "new" Z shares like 70% of the components with the old chassis. The interior is the same as a 370. About the only thing that changed was some exterior styling and the engine. But beyond it's similarities to the old model, has anyone actually seen one in the wild? The car debuted sometime last year and I still haven't seen one driving on the street. Hype has almost died on that model, and it hasn't made any money for Nissan yet.
Infiniti’s are phenomenal used cars for buyers who don’t want to maintain a German car. Loved my g37x, brought it from 143k to 266k miles with nothing but normal maintenance
Just started the video so not sure if they comment on this. I personally used to own a 2017 q60 until I sold it last month. Infiniti is just a brand you never buy new because they depreciate so hard--just save the money price and buy it used for half the price and then it becomes a wonderful car!
Owner of a Q60RS here, these cars are by far the best bang for your buck luxury coupes on the market USED. And what alot of people don't know is with just a few simple boltons and a tune transform this thing into a 450whp rocket. Keep an eye out for these on the used market, phenomenal cars for the money.
AWD Q60RS owner here too! I couldn’t agree more w/ your opinion, I bought mine for 46k fully loaded w/ 6.5k on the odometer. Practically NEW, I’d NEVER buy one new. For that amount of money I’d rather shop for an M or AMG car tbh! Best value on the used market, in addition to bolt on’s & a tune 🔥🔥🔥
@@djivan831 sounds like you did good on your deal! I got my 2017 with 23k on the odometer, all the options i wanted and the color too for 32k out the door. 3k in mods and ive got a 450whp beast. You'd never get those numbers out of a C43 or S4 for that kinda money
I have the Q50 Red Sport myself and I see it more as a GT/Long Distance Commuter. It does look dated and the handling isn’t anything to write home about. However it’s super comfy on my commute and I replaced the tires with Michelin Summer Tires which made the ride and handling so much better. All the technology including the Wireless CarPlay works really well too. I agree it’s dated but I everything works great and the engine is an absolute blast.
I leased a '17 Q60 S AWD and loved it. When my lease finished I jumped into a '17 QX60 for about two years. Last week I sold it and bought another '19 Q60 RS AWD
It’s overpriced new, but the used market reflects that. Bought one of these with every option last year for $38k (a 2019) and have greatly enjoyed it as a daily that can eat miles, have fun, and be extremely reliable.
I don’t even think anyone buys these new…Infiniti has some stupid great discounts for leases (pre-Covid) there was dudes on Facebook paying 400 something for their redsport lease I got my 2017 q60rs with 27k miles for 35k…very comfortable and quick, really sexy looking car too…I think the trade off so it can be comfortable is it doesn’t feel sporty as much as you would think it would be
Much more reasonable price for one of these... not worth 60k. Have a loaded 2018 as well. Just not white. Definitely needs an exhaust. Any idea what the factory rims weight? Think it's like 40 pounds each!
Couldn't agree more on the headroom. My first car was an Infiniti J30, we had a G35 in the family that I loved, when I got my first job making good money I went straight to the Infiniti dealership fully intending to buy a G37S. My head was rubbing on the roof, which I find understandable in a sports car but inexcusable in a sedan. The steering was also disappointingly vague compared to the older Infinitis I loved so much.
I’m 6’4 and fit in my g37 coupe, there is a adjustment bolt under the seat that give you an extra inch or two of head room. But yeah it’s a bit tight even after I made that adjustment.
So happy you guys are reviewing this car! I have a 2017 RedSport and I freaking love it. It's beautiful, fast, super comfortable, handles well and get toooons of looks and comments all the time since there aren't that many on the road. Mine is Dynamic Sunstone Red with the optional exterior carbon package and the Gallery White interior with the silver carbon. I know the tech is dated and steering is a little muffled but it's a great car and like you said an awesome GT car.
@@messijr5145 No it doesn't! The Red Sport? Trust me hes not.lying ! My 2008 Infiniti M45 Sport was very modified and as old as it was i got looks and complements to!
I think the steering feel can be improved with a front swaybar (keep the rear stock for compliance on crappy public roads), and maybe try running a little more camber up front, not stupid amounts, but just a bit more aggressive. Those 2 really transformed how my 370z handles, but I'm really unsure of how different the Q50-60 is in terms of steering vs. the 370z, same company, but it seems like they really went way overboard in the whole "We must have product differentiation!!!" department, and somehow, chose steering as their battle...
I bought a used 2019 red sport with 5k miles for 36k added 5k in mods and this car beats most rivals in its segment. It’s a great car gets lot attention on the road. If you can get one for under 39k then it’s a good choice. Going for 3 years and car has not giving any major problems. Been keeping up with maintenance. The only thing I do recommend is getting cooling mods because when I first got the car after pushing it for a while it would heat soak and cut power … also new tires! Factory ones suck! after AMS LOVE heat exchanger, intakes, coolant expansion tank no more heat soak!! Over all I love the car and plan on keeping it until the end. It’s a great daily that won’t hurt your wallet until the Germans. Built quality feels great. All I could see upgrading is infotainment interior steering and better trans extra 20 hp and this car would be perfect !
Issue started before the Q60 came out. New engine stuffed into old FM platform - New engine matted to old Transmission - Transmission is )Nissan Jetco) Car built around crap technology that never worked correctly - Drive my wire- Over priced- It’s such a shame I owned a G 37 IPL- 6MT granted it was more fluff than anything but that car handle very well. I owned 2018 Q50 RS that was leased. I drove the car back-and-forth to work and that’s all it was good for. Now I own a 2020 BMW M4 and will never look back.
Can’t wait for you guys to review the new Z!! Excited to see how this engine platform does in that car. Although most people in this community will be after the manual, I hope the auto doesn’t have the same gearing issue the Q60 has.
This car has a 7 speed auto that's been around for over a decade. The new Z has a 9 speed auto. Edit: Also I just realized these autos were originally Merc's lol. Jatco just builds their own version under license. The more you know... 😆
I daily drove a 370Z for 5yrs / 75k miles, and I really hope to get the new Z. Since they're moving from hydraulic steering to EPAS, I really hope they nail it better than these Infiniti Q-series. I knew the steer by wire was a disaster, but I hoped at least the EPAS was better.
@@ctknetwork3008 I'm on the fence. It's going to take a ton of money to properly update the z with more power. $20,000 to do it the right way when it's all said n done...
Even the non steer by wire system is shit compared to the older hydraulic steering on the g35/37. You cant feel what the cars doing and its annoying lol
I love my 2018 Q50RS, but I would never pay 60k for it. You have to pick these cars up for 35-40k, and then you're really getting a bang for your buck. I don't really understand what most of these reviewers are talking about when they say " limits". I can't be out here on the road, pushing " limits" of a car I insure and have a payment on. You guys review cars and you kind of have a privileged experience with these vehicles, so your kind of out of touch. I haven't found a corner or an exit I can't take during spirited drives and twists of interstate traffic. I don't push to dangerous limitations because I don't like tickets or jail, I need to be around for my family, and I'm not trying to have an accident. Remember that the core of buyers aren't taking this thing to a track and comparing its slalom to a 340i ... that's a privilege...that's not everyday people. Sometimes, well, lets face it... ALOT of times you car reviewers need to have reminder that although you drive tons of cars and go from seat to seat, average people choose 1 car and drive it. I'm sure if I just drove a BMW 340i and then jumped in this Infinity, I'd have lots of complaints.... but the average person doesn't do that. lol
Infiniti is a luxury sub-brand, not performance-oriented like BMW M. The car's not really aimed at sports car audience. It does feature some performance-oriented stuff for the same reason Mercedes normally do: to pass crummy hatchbacks and for bragging rights, but not to set lap times or be a driver's car. Whereas BMW M240 is more of a performance/driver-oriented car. So it's not a fair comparison. And trunk capacity compared to BMW: that's hardly a deciding factor as people buying 2-door coupes know what they're getting into and if they needed a diaper hauler, they'd be looking at 3 series, not 2, anyway. Audi S3 is a 4-door family car and it looks like one. I don't know what kind of person 2-door coupe person would go for that instead. Probably someone with no mind of their own. Mercedes C43 is the real competitor, as well as Lexus RCF.
How far Infiniti has fallen. I still think a G35 is one of the best used cars for the money, love mine, but as soon as they started adding tech like electric steering and weight they’ve just sapped any driving feel out of the car. They do still look nice
🤣"That's where I exit the bus..." ~ Matt Farah 🤣 Legendary. I agree with you two. Pricing is the biggest marketing hindrance or advantage for sports cars. If the Corvette wasn't well priced, it would not have become so popular for it's performance. If someone likes this car, they should buy a used one from 2017-18 for under $40k at Carmax.
I’m the proud owner of a G37x sedan and a G35 coupe. Both cars are phenomenal. What Zack said with his drive in a g37, perfect GT car out of the box. The g35 feels a little more raw, but still such a solid vehicle for being 16 years old. I have been hesitant and I don’t think I’d upgrade to a Q60. They are so much money new, for what you get. Used is definitely the better option with those cars. However I have a buddy that got a q60 redsport, constant repairs and issues with it. By issues I mean replacing the whole steering and replacing turbos. Which you shouldn’t need to do on a car with 20k miles.
@@fmsdaman1 that engine has been treating me well. So far no major issues, I’ve had the car since late 2017. The power of the vr sounds good, but I don’t want to have it constantly broken. Not for 400-500 hp
I have a ‘14 q50s 3.7 and they’re a used bargain to get solid performance - but they’re no longer the Japanese BMW. The handling and steering falls short, and so do the dynamics in general. But as a used daily, pretty hard to beat for the price, reliability and features. But new - why spend Audi/BMW/Mercedes money and get a worse performing vehicle? Great daily/GT as Zack mentioned but definitely not a track machine.
Being almost 43 yrs old, I remember how good Infiniti was in 90s………but just like Acura, they lost their way. This is just my opinion, the Japanese car makers don’t spread the love across their product lines. When you look at BMW, Audi and Benz, the same effort they put in the flagship models they put in the lower models…….at least when it comes to the M, S/RS and AMG lines. So Nissan gives us the GTR then cuts corners with this Q60. This car should be nothing less than a milder more affordable GTR, same thing Lexus did. Lexus gave us the magnificent LFA then cut corners with all the other F models. M cars, S/RS Audis and AMG’s have consistent build quality, performance, feel and overall driving experience across the model range. Just my 2 cents!
Just picked up an '18 Q50 Red Sport. I feel like these are a great used car bargain if you can find a good example. New there is just too much competition in the segment that is just overall more fresh/new.
I like the Q50 a lot but No DCT, fairly heavy, no manual, steering isn't engaging. fast very fast lots of potential looks good lowered. But I'd rather a Type R for the engagement or pony up and go RS3 as a mature DD, Q is somewhere in the middle.
I've got a 2008 G37S coupe (6mt) with 200k miles on it. While I've had to fix some known issues (clutch slave, subframe/diff bushings) that any car is bound to have in one form or another, it's been incredibly reliable and it's held up very well. Nissan is definitely lagging behind because of their continuation of platforms and components for far longer than they probably should, but they do build a solid, high quality vehicle when they put the effort into it. The platform itself is kinda great, good suspension, good balance, versatile in application from the Z all the way to the extended sedans (and to a certain extent the SUV's as well). But it needs a real refresh. And yet the new Z is still going to be on it. Really I'm not sure what Nissan's next move will be from here.
@@FlameOnTheBeat nice! I drive 25k miles a year in mine, and I beat the piss out of it every time I drive. our cars are mechanically identical, from the suspension arms to the engine/trans, so I'll offer some tips in case you haven't hit these issues yet: Z Speed CMAK delete kit when your slave goes out. It's a matter of time (assuming it hasn't already), and the Z Speed kit doesn't require adjustment for clutch wear like the Z1 kit does. Installs a clutch fork and typical external slave. I really like the exedy S2 quiet clutch and billet steel lightened flywheel (19lbs, single-mass) that I got with it. And poly subframe and diff mounts when those inevitably take a poo. Fair warning from a professional mechanic who did it herself, it's a HUGE pain in the ass to drop the rear subframe on these cars, I drop subframes all the time and I'm not sure why but this one beat me up and took an entire weekend. Poly mounts didn't increase NVH at all really, and the driveline and handling are tighter for it. Also if you've got the akebono calipers, be super careful when you unbolt them from the knuckles because those steel bolts have likely been threaded into the aluminum caliper bodies for a very long time since the pads can be replaced without taking them off and the stock rotors last so long. The threads came out with the bolts on mine and it didn't take well to a tap and helicoil either. I'm dreading the one front caliper I haven't removed yet on the car.
@@samah713 I've driven them, I'm just not really into the feeling of a lot of (mostly newer) German cars. They're fast, they handle, but the steering is numb, they're very isolated, they tend to be really unreliable/finicky and I really hate working on them (I'm a pro at a shop for all makes), I've never liked the feeling of the BMW and VAG shifters I've tried, just not my thing. I love the older ones, and obviously Porsche is a huge exception to everything I just said, but I don't really have any interest in newer Benz/BMW/Audis. And I think my comment made it clear I understand the FM platform's shortcomings. I do. I've driven many miles and done much work on my Infiniti, and I've driven and worked on many cars of the platform.
@@liblib89 exactly. the shop I work for services all makes and models, and there's a reason we call bmw's "bring money with", and audi's "owwies". Yes there's reliable German cars, but they're the exception not the rule. And they've been getting more and more rare over the years. Tons of the older models lasted decades, but not so with most of the newer stuff. Many of them have literally dozens of computers, the electronics are a nightmare and control everything, and when one goes down it usually takes other stuff with it. They take forever to diagnose, most jobs both mechanical and electrical require more hours in labor than their equivalent in American or Japanese cars, and many of the systems require crazy calibration or programming that the OEM's only want their dealership service centers to have, so either my shop has to pay tens of thousands of dollars for a tool we'll use very rarely or we have to send the customer to the dealer to get hugely overcharged for a minor thing.
What kills me the most about this latest infiniti, is that they can sell more of a car, at a cheaper price than this, with more power, and more aerodynamics, that would appease several different markets of buyers, but they chose to stay mediocre at every level. You can tell where the company is at where this is THE SPORTS COUPE of the company. Insanely disappointing, so much potential wasted on literally nothing, Nissan would have made the r35 actually look like an old car if they ever decide to update literally anything in a meaningful way. Am I gonna buy a Q60? Yes I hate it, of course I am.
Why not an IS500? Similar price point, similarly out dated compared to the Q60, but you get more power and an N/A V8. If you also consider depreciation, the Q60 is not going to hold its value like an IS500.
That car was dope in 2015. The fact that Infiniti keeps pushing the same outdated stuff just crazy. Theyclearly not listening to the consumers about their infotainment and dated transmission
Sums up nissan, toyota, subaru and honda the past decade. So sad they took that tuner reputation they earned in the early 90's and just sat on it and milked what they had tweaking and stealing other designs,no r&d they even outsourced engines from other makers avoiding their own r&d and the clearcoats last 5years tops. Idk id honestly buy American over Asian any day in this day in age
@@jak3est when you focus on reliability and longevity so much, you end up with overused platforms/engines/gearboxes that just get outdated. Good for peeps that want to keep cars longer (8 years isn't surprising), bad for peeps that want something epic out of the box.
@@jak3est They just stopped developing this car and would've axed it, but decided to keep selling it as long as it does. That's a win-win: they still get a few sales; you can buy it you want to, and you have no obligation to if you don't. Imagine if Toyota had done that with Supra instead of axing it in 1996. I'm sure people would've complained and mocked Toyota in 2002, but that would've resulted way greater availability and pricing of used Mark IV Supras in 2022.
@@andycalifornia426 the supra was an incredible car from the get go. As you can hear in this review the Q60 was not a well sorted car from the factory. It had an engine and exterior styling thats about it. If it was manual maybe it would have redeemed some points but it almost sounds painful hearing these car guys just subtly hate the car. You can jump in any stock supra, mustang etc and have an experience, the nissan is just a sedan being branded as a sports car. People just get it because its easy to obtain
I owned a new q50s 2016MY(sibling to the q60) and was totally dissatisfied with my purchase especially coming from a BMW. I kept the car all of one year only to return to BMW to buy an F80 M3 Dct. Final conclusion was Infiniti is in no way comparison to the true performance cars in its segment. Totally agree with you Matt. The M240i is a much... better car.
It is interesting because the Infiniti Q50/60 Red Sport 400 is costing $65K. Very overpriced considering the C8 Chevorlet Corvette is supposed to only cost $60,000 MSRP. Yet the C8 is never sold at MSRP without mark up; most rich people are willingly paying $90k for the C8. The Infiniti G35/G37 was strong when BMW, Audi, and Mercedes were weak. The Merc’s SLK stuff were selling slow (they had a lot of restructuring to do post Dodge), Audi was losing marketshare to Acura’s, BMW purists did not like the heavier new models that relied on more powerful engines to achieve fun. Gotta remember, To hit that $60k price point GM saved money on Research and Development R&D by ignoring a manual transmission option, and cut corners leading to 30+ recalls on things like a broken hood latch, ac that self destructs within 3 months, and a fragile DCT transmission.
INFINITI is struggling MASSIVELY in terms of sales. They are the only manufacturer that has had declining sales continuously for the past 3 years. They have dropped about 60% in total sales volume in that time frame. They have no new cars slated to be announced this year at all. They had advertised that by 2022 they would be well on their way to having an all electric lineup. They don’t even have a single hybrid vehicle anymore much less a full electric one. Honestly, I don’t see how the INFINITI brand survives this year. Nissan has abandoned them.
When I got the new Q50 the first test drive was the Steer By Wire...I drove it 5 minutes and asked what is wrong with the car. I can feel a bump in the seat but the wheel doesn't move. I turned around and got the one with out.
I can sit upright in a g35 coupe, I’m 6’8” I was so sad to see that when I went to the dealer to order a q60, I could no longer order without a sunroof, I lost my manual, and it was severely cramped with the sunroof, I basically had to lay down. Having bought 2 g35 coupes from the same dealer I’m sure they were sorry to lose my business. I currently have a carbon roof e92 m3 and I love it, but it’s 10 years old and there’s sadly nothing new that I can replace it with!
I almost bought one of these. One of the best looking cars ever. No digital speedo, two screens with different resolutions and weirdo steering deterred me
The problem with the q50/60 is Nissan didn’t put enough money into it for a new transmission and LSD when it got redesigned in 2016 to make it class leading. Adding insult to injury despite Infiniti offering insane lease deals on these most are scared away by MSRP or incorrectly compare it to more expensive cars. Those who choose to lease are paying around $480-580/month. That said Matt and Zack nailed a lot of its flaws and it is due for a refresh in the next 16 months or so.
I wanted to buy one of these so badly, but after test driving it I arrived at the exact same conclusions that you guys have made here. I actually ended up getting a CPO used Q50S which performs almost as well and was much cheaper. I considered the M240i but I prefer the reliability of the Japanese brands. Great job on the review!
Food for though on the subject of price. It may be BMW and Mercedes money (or even a little more), but the build quality and longevity of these two German brands are well-documented. I have a feeling this thing will outlive those and will be cheaper to maintain after warranty expires. Of course, most people who buy this kind of car new may not care as they get a new toy every three years. But this is to say that it's this expensive not "just because I feel like it" but because this is how Japanese build high-end cars.
Infinity is not what it (or nissan) was in 1999. There have been plenty of problems with the 2014+ q50/Q60 including transmissions made of glass, and turbo issues. It's no Lexus.
It was almost obligatory for every G35 owner to sport a blowout. I loved the sound of those G35s with an exhaust. There were a lot of those at Westchester Community College, all the rich fail outs were there in the spring semester.
These reviews are for racers or people who want tickets. Idk how fast you can go on an interstate in 5 pm traffic.. this car is marvelous if you are not looking to be in a fast and furious movie. I do agree buy used.
Because Nissan/Ininiti is a Low Credit/No Credit brand and their buyers dont really care about the price as long as they can get a 7 year term and a loan from their 520 credit score.
@@Dindyracer You're right, it's probably that no one buys Infiniti's new, they're all lease specials, so the price doesn't matter. Then high school kids buy them after they've lost 70% of their value and put obnoxious exhausts on them.
I will say the price of the test cars is a bit inflated because of the accessory wheels and exhaust they fit to the press cars. Frankly I find the wheels they come with otherwise better looking
When the G35 came out it was one of the hottest cars you could buy in the price range. I had a red 2004 g35 and I’ll never forget the feeling picking it up a the dealership. Those days are long gone with todays infinitis
They need to drop the price by about $10k. Ideally $15k, but if they drop it by $10k, this car starts making a lot more sense. Or wait till the leased ones hit the used car market at a corrected value which is my recommendation. These cars last a long time and have a great aftermarket. And with a few small upgrades like an ECU tune ($1k) and 13" Tesla style infotainment system ($1k), the car really becomes what it should've been at a $65k price point.
The q50/q60’s are super underrated. Just got mine tuned pushing 440+ wheel horsepower. Its an absolute sleeper and yea the tech is outdated and interior is meh (still nice) but man the value you get is great. Definitely drive one if you haven’t to see what its like and buy used. 🙌
another comparison that kills this car is the g70 (although that competes with the Q50 RS). Its almost as fast, 10k cheaper and nicer inside. and cheaper maintenace vs the germans.
I think as a daily cruiser bought used with rear wheel drive it is ok. You can tune these. Plain and simple it is not a sports car no matter how you slice the green egg sandwich. Body style is gorges though.
Love my q60, got it wit 14,000 miles for 31k in 2019 for a 2017. Gearing isn’t great, but tune it, or even a JB4. It’s a whole different motor. If you don’t like the interior, can’t fix that, at 5 feet 8, fits me perfectly. I’ve dusted supercharged Audi’s. Also, don’t buy them new, who does that?? That’s where the price hurts. Never pay msrp!
Never thought these were worth buying new. A 2018 low milage isn't going to be missing much that a 2021 has other thab car play and like $20k less... They just didn't change much from 2017 to 21. Needs less weighty rims, better exhaust, better heat exchanger.
Nissan just hasn't invested enough into Infiniti. My 8 1/2 year old Q50S Hybrid AWD has almost 100K miles and has been rock solid. Few options regarding mid sized Japanese luxury car with a RWD platform and AWD that is sporty. And then if you want a coupe you have this and the Lexus RC.

I think the real competition for this are the Japanese and Korean alternatives. Of course, if there's sentimental or nostalgic attachment, or you just love the way the q60 looks, that's fair enough. But objectively it's near the front of the pack in engine and sheet metal, and near the back of the pack in terms of steering, transmission, efficient use of space/weight, and tech. And while you can easily mod it for more power, you can do that for many of the competitors, and power is one of it's strengths. You can't mod away that transmission, steering, heavy-car handling, or tech as easily. If the only alternatives were Chargers, 300Ss, and Lincoln MKZs, it would be a compelling option. But I can't imagine buying this over a G70, IS500, or RCF if you've ever driven them back to back, or just done an objective comparison.
Up in Canada, they are somehow priced far cheaper than comparable 340i, C43 or S4. I'm on my 2nd Q50 Red Sport AWD, also in Slate Grey (loaded). Lease was even cheaper than a Stinger, so it is all a question of value with this one. The Q50 lease payment was half the lease payment of a Lexus IS500.
Biggest problem with the new Infinitis is the transmission. Every serious competitor has a dual clutch or at least uses a zf8. The 7 speed slush box they use holds the vr back so much.
you realize thats just how its tuned from the factory, right? its not actually slow, its designed to be that way. ECUtek either isnt capable or isnt willing to spend time on the TCM to crack it. HPTuners is working on it. when its out, tuners should easily be able correct the transmission's behavior. for strength, its good for around 550tq before needing a rebuild.
It’s because the Nissan group will offer financing on cars in this price range to people that can’t be financed by other manufacturers’ banks. Check the average buyer FICOS by manufacturer.
I remember when the G35 first came out. I had just graduated high school. It was an AMAZING car. Unfortunately, you can still buy that same almost 20-year-old car , the Q60! For the last 5 years I've been driving Porsche, Audi, MB and BMW. Mostly BMW, and I'll say that there's no better time to own a BMW then now. I've had the B58 and currently the S58, just amazing! Those engines are solid with great reliability. And if you're a BMW hater, then buy the Supra.
I owned a 2014 Q60xs and really enjoyed it . However, the slow shifting is what made me move on. Later I had a QX60s with the steer by wire and it was terrifying. Over rough roads the car would basically do whatever it wanted regardless of where you were trying to go. It’s a shame, these cars are unique and pretty as hell. Infiniti did themselves a disservice by not moving it along with the times.
If this car had a better steering rack and a Zf8 speed it would be worth the money. I had a 2016 red sport and it was so fun but the transmission let it down and they vague steering wasn’t fun to drive. I got an Alfa Romeo Giulia veloce as a replacement and it really fixed all the issues I had with my INFINITI.
Just started the vid but I want so very much to be wowed & inspired by Infiniti once again; I used to only drive Infinitis & they were my fav cars of all time. Had the 1st and 3rd gen Q45 (how I wish they would bring back their flagship!!), a G37x, and the absolute sleeper which was the 1st gen M45. I’ve had a bit of hope that Infiniti is back, although only based on SUVs at the moment. The passion & unique personality of the marque really faded in the mid 2000s.
Actually it was 2003 when the G35 came out.... it was a beautiful great car!! Killer engine!! I bought a 2004 G35 sedan and still have it and love it !!!!!!

That’s exactly what I did, never buy NEW lol! I bought a used Q60 RS AWD & a blast to drive!

I feel that the FM Platform, though old, is still a very relevant platform. It just needs to be infused with lighter materials, the suspension needs to be tuned a bit better from the factory, and the steering needs to be thoroughly updated.
Have you driven it? And compared it to its competitors lately?

Upshifts are instant with power, except that traction control seems to interrupt the change to 3rd occasionally. Turning T/C off or short-shifting slightly fixes that. When you back off the shift is noticeably slower. Downshifts are not that different from any BMW/ZF I have experienced...slow.
I could never describe the steering as slow in Sport or Sport+.

Infiniti really mailing this in. Aside from the engine, this whole car is so dated. Chassis, infotainment, transmission. I remember being wooed by a G37 back in 2010. This is 2022.

A fragile DCT that is also in a 200k Maserati? And a 760hp mustang? Where you get that good stuff I need some.
INFINITI is struggling MASSIVELY in terms of sales. They are the only manufacturer that has had declining sales continuously for the past 3 years.
They do sound badass
@@xL0stKIlah To this day nothing sounds like them. You can hear them and know what's coming before you see them.
Yeah, because poor people suck, right?
Everything you just said, in relation to Infiniti, is incorrect. Just is lol.
@@Dindyracer You're right, it's probably that no one buys Infiniti's new, they're all lease specials, so the price doesn't matter. Then high school kids buy them after they've lost 70% of their value and put obnoxious exhausts on them.
This sounds more like V8 Dodge/Mopar owners.
That’s cute little kid
I will say the price of the test cars is a bit inflated because of the accessory wheels and exhaust they fit to the press cars. Frankly I find the wheels they come with otherwise better looking
Aye can get into them in the low-mid 50s but given the leases Infiniti offers MSRP doesn’t mean much.
Does cause an awful lot of sticker shock though.
When the G35 came out it was one of the hottest cars you could buy in the price range. I had a red 2004 g35 and I’ll never forget the feeling picking it up a the dealership. Those days are long gone with todays infinitis
I’ll agree it was different than a lot of other offers but remember the 04 cobra mustang that was going for the same price. Better in every way.
I actually like these. Wouldn't be my first option but definitely worth an honorable mention
These guys are great but I feel like driving gt3rs and all their crazy cool cars have kind of ruined how they feel about anything
In my opinion it’s hard to not buy an is500 over this
Love my q60, got it wit 14,000 miles for 31k in 2019 for a 2017.
All it needs is the new 9AT and the lsd from the new Z and it would get A LOT more attention from gearheads despite the aging interior
Never thought these were worth buying new. A 2018 low milage isn't going to be missing much that a 2021 has other thab
car play and like $20k less... They just didn't change much from 2017 to 21. Needs less weighty rims, better exhaust, better heat exchanger.
These cars are fast beautiful reliable its a no brainer these engines are practically bulletproof
One of my neighbors just got one. brand. new. not used. what a sucker. but i was nice to him "nice car!"
used = acceptable value
new = stupid
The Infiniti 7 spd has always been an underperforming transmission
Put a quality tune on it with the torque tables properly modified and it's a different animal. You should check out a car that's tuned by Racebox.
Getting tuned in a few months from the GOAT Racebox!
I got a 2017 Red Sport fully loaded in 2021 for 28k. Very worth it
How is it holding up? Just bought the same car a few weeks ago
@@MSupreme7 great bro, def recommended blow off valves

I'm fucking dying laughing... I swear to god... that had me rolling.
The G35 was basically a stretched 2+2 350Z. I remember when both cars were fairly new I constantly confused them for each other at a visual distance.

This one is a stretched 370Z
Wacky might be a good business expense haha.
You don’t see them on the road because for that price you can get the 340 with the B58 engine which is a better car in every way. There is your answer
Low ass lease prices too
I remember when the G35 first came out.
The real question after watching this is, when are you two going to get a chance to drive the 2023 Nissan Z!?
your guys matching sunglasses are so cute
I have a G35 Coupe and a Sedan, when I worked at an Infiniti Dealership you can really see how that was when they peaked.
I will buy one if the AWD is good in the snow
