Doing this in one month now. excited and hoping for the best.
1 year of this treatment update:my gaps were nearly closed just 2 months after i got power chain but they removed it and put me on normal elastic bands, after that cross elastic behind my teeth and now they made me put 2 TADs and are pulling it with power chains again . been 3 months with power chain and the teeth gap has closed only 1 cm.
    Edit: Reason:
Everyone has a different type of case and its complexity
(why they removed power chains in the begining?) the gaps were being close but the teeth were moving and bending like it was tilting.
the elastic rubber band and cross elastic were part of my doctors plan fix the bite.
2 TADs were placed because my midline was way off(a whole tooth) so they are using power chains on my teeth and TADs to correct the midline but this time its moving gradually in a slow pace.
Edit: if i don't reply comments then, send 1 more comment cuz i probably didn't got notification from it .

What it's doesn't say is that during the process of closing the gaps you aren't able to eat properly because your molars will not touch because they will put a build up on your 4 front, top and bottom teeth, and will only be able to nibble with your front teeth or swallow whole.
Disclaimer: I am going through this stage and it sucks I barely eat once a day because of the struggle of eating

Would the back molars align as well? My dentist says If i get braces alone without jaw surgery, I will have an underbite. To correct this he would like to do braces and remove to bottom teeth. However will this align that back two teeth with a combination of elastics and extraction. My back molars only slightly touch my bottom molars. Also with this extraction technique is there a chance that sleep apnea can be developed?

+Anthony M every 3-4 mm retraction of the lower front teeth will result in 1mm retraction of the lower lip which is minimal. so to answer you question simply "it won't".
the second question: please keep in mind that the bite is already off that an orthodontist decides for such a treatment. the result after the extraction should overweight the condition before treatment.
Without a proper diagnosis it's difficult for us to asses the outcome.

Do not recommend this if your have maxillary hypoplasia (recessed upper jaw), what it does is basically constrict your normally sized lower jaw to fit an already too small upper jaw. This treatment may create a 'nice smile', but functionally it has a host of issues, from reduced tongue space to speech issues and reduced mastication capacity.
The unfortunate reality is that orthodontists are tunnel visioned in achieving a perfect smile and don't take much into account functionality and overall facial size and ratios.
This treatment when done if you have a small maxilla, also gives the sensation of a claustrophobic mouth and sunken mesolabial area. A sunken mesolabial area gives the impression of a jutting chin.
Retracting teeth , depending on how much, causes over stimulation of saliva, which makes you spit and speak and generally feel exceptionally uncomfortable.
You should always visit a maxiofacial surgeon and ENT before committing to any sort of dental retraction and arch reduction. If the maxiofacial surgeon and ENT can confidently say that you wont have any of the above issues based on the amount of retraction , then yes go ahead with it.
I made the mistake of not Consulting with an ENT and maxiofacial surgeon first. I only realised I had an issue once my sleep apnea became severe.
The maxiofacial surgeon then assessed me , done thorough scan , and advised me that for long term comfort, health and functionality, I should reverse what I can of the retraction and do orthognathic surgery to advance my maxilla.
    The ENT agreed.
If an orthodontist ever tells you that 'your tongue will adapt you need not worry', do not take their word. They are specialist in tooth movement and not mouth and throat function.
Always get multiple opinions from various medical disciplines before committing to any sort of body altering procedure.
In my opinion though, making a mandibular arch even smaller to accommodate an already small maxillary arch does not make any sense and does not address the problem on a functional level.
    Do your research

i'm getting this done on Friday, and i'm a bit scared that the structure of my face is going to change a lot. will my lower jaw move a lot when the gaps close and my bottom teeth come together? also, about how long does the procedure of removing the two teeth take and will it hurt? last question, how exactly do the teeth move into alignment? what exactly is going to move them into place?

+Andrea x expect 1mm of soft tissue change for every 3-4mm of front teeth retraction. the second question is to asked from your dentist. Third question can be answered better if you check our website at avaorthodontics.com.

I had the same case as well and I'm sure that It's not innate. I just noticed it when I was 13 years old, Since the under bite was causing me so much trouble. I went to a orthodontics had braces and then after a year my two premolars were extracted. (*as shown in the video.) As of this moment, their are still spaces due to the extraction. Although you can say that some of my front teeth are now normal, but there are still 3 teeth that are still outside. I'm 17 years old and curious.
Question:How long would it take to close the gap? When will it be reunited with the others?
can the appearance of my chin or my jaw change?
And lastly Stating the fact that its not innate for me, what could be the causes of my under bite?

Just got my two mandibular premolars extracted and my lower teeth tightened with braces
One thing I wanna share to you all intending to get this procedure done = it’s superrrrrr uncomfortable afterwards that I wanna punch everyone 😂. It’s not painful as in toothache.. it’s just so uncomfortable. My dentist did warn me about this though
But hey, nothing worth it ever comes easy. I’ll remind myself to share monthly updates😊

It was unbearably uncomfortable for the first 3 weeks since my teeth were shifting for their first time. But after some time, the pain went away and I started to eat like normal again 🤗
I have my braces readjusted once every 3 weeks so the progress is quicker. My lower teeth is also starting to move backwards and I can’t be happier 🥹

      +aliyah Ruiz
Aliyah, the jaw is not actually moving. By extraction the orthodontist uses the space to correct the under bite. It will usually take around 2 years for the whole process to be completed.
