- The R1S is Rivian's all new SUV. This vehicle is meant to compete with the Tesla Model X, Cadillac Escalade IQ and GMC Hummer EV SUV. On the outside you will find optional 20in wheels, off-road tires, full LED lighting and tow hooks. On the inside there is a large infotainment system, digital gauge cluster and full glass panoramic roof. Powering the R1S are (4) electric motors producing over 800HP. Is the 2023 Rivian R1S Adventure Edition a better SUV to BUY than a GMC Hummer?

I have the R1S launch edition. It is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned and I've had Lexus GS, Cadillac Escalade, Acura RDX. This vehicle is so thought out and I have no regrets. It's way faster than any sports car, can fit as many people as an escalade, can off road like a jeep and way more reliable than range rover and more luxurious than a German luxury sedan. The craziest part is its still cheaper than a Ford Expedition 😂
R1S easily eats Expedition's, Range Rover's lunch and dinner, any day!
I have high hopes for the Rivian, but the next SUV to compare it to is the Lucid Gravity, which is also fully electric.
This IMO is one of the best proportioned, most thought out vehicles on the market. Not too big, or small, loads of power and torque, decent range, it’s AWD, and amazing towing capacity. It’s comfortably luxurious, but not over the top. Price is still pretty expensive, but compared to everything else, well, everything’s expensive right now. Im thinking this the total package if your in the SUV market.
No car play. No HUD. NO digital rear view mirror. No 3rd row controls to get seat up and down from rear. No controls for bottom trunk hatch is craaazy at $85k+
it is definitely the total package. compared to what it does have, what it doesn't have (car play, hud, mirror) is pure fluff. Don't let the price point police say otherwise. The price point has gone into the drivetrain, not into accoutrements (french for "random crap")

Yes of course, the majority of your hard earned dollar goes towards the drivetrain. That's true for almost every new vehicle out there however, I disagree completely with your other presumption. Car play, HUD, digital rear view mirror, proper controls for the 3rd row seats AND a sliding shade below that massive two section glass roof, is most certainly not "fluffy random crap" that is typically seen in an $82,000 vehicle! @@IvanRivera-xb3he

Rear floor lifts up to the lip to make the floor flat. Also you missed the accessories in the rear near the 2 buttons. They're slider doors that gives access to compressor and plugs

I agree with you 100% regarding the 2 "HUGE" zonks on the Rivian R1S. It is truly hard to believe that the massive two section glass roof does NOT have a sliding shade. It's almost laughable that somehow, this ridiculous flaw passed the test during the designing stage. The other zonk is those stupid manual folding rear seats - yeah, in a $82,000 vehicle - gimme a frickin' break Rivian!
And so like everyone else, I'm still waiting for a "real world" review on an actual production-line Cybertruck, not the prototype. It'll most likely set a baseline that everything else will be measured against.

The internal air compressor in the rear storage area is a nice touch, too. It's purpose built, and gives a different flavor compared to the typical tesla bubbles.
Can get an air compressor and jumpstarter combo at Costco for $120. Keep it in your whatever car. done.

I actually like the design. Very unique and doesn't look like any other SUV or truck on the road. I don't mind the flat black since its an Adventure edition. The rear looks like the Jeep Wagoneer. I liked that Defender in the background with that unique paint job on the side. That is really sweet. No head up display is a major zonk.

When you sit in the back seat, are the front seats all the way back? I'm 6'1 with long legs and always ride with the front seat back all the way and want to find a vehicle for my back passengers to have plenty of space

Nice video. But just quick mention.. your battery range info is incorrect for the quad motor. The quad motor does not take the max pack, only the dual motor. This quad motor range is in the 280s because of the wheel/tire package.This is the long range battery (midsize). If you want more range on this, you'll need to get different tire package. But for the dual motor, yes there are 3 range differences on battery alone. then tire/wheel package will adjust those also.
im confusd, you cant option a rivian r1s quad motor with the small battery pack, unless I'm misinformed.

One word that describes the R1S is exclusively capable. On the track, off roading, daily driving and formal parties. It's everything you can do in one SUV.

Great video just now seeing this. I had pre-ordered this but over time was taking to long and the price increased to $82K. Prior was around high $70's but there was some things they had to increase that finally my lovely wife said with a son going to college nope. Instead got me a 2022 Jeep Gladiator which I love. This is a very sweet SUV.
That close up around 3:17 on the front , makes it look like a rear.
Where are the cup holders for driver & passenger?

As an owner of both a Model S and R1T all those buttons don't help if the software is crap. And compared to my Tesla the software is horrible. Great vehicle but interface is years behind Tesla. And it takes all of a day to get used to using a touchscreen or voice commands
Except not everyone like buttons and knots
I've driven both and unfortunately it's still behind in software compared to tesla.

Regarding the 3rd row seats, most owners will probably rarely ever use it and just keep it in the down position anyway, so the manufacturer having it manual rather than increasing costs to make it automatic is probably a good idea.
As an R1S owner, it really isn't a big deal for me. We have it up all the time (since we prefer the looks of the 3rd row up) and have it down when we go for a Costco run every few weeks. It only takes us a few second to put it back up.
@@lokchan9399 do you find it hard to have to manually pull the back to push up the third row seats? And when did you take delivery?

I agree with this. It’s a nice to have when family comes into town for us, but otherwise, those seats rarely get used. We only have one child though.

I’m really considering this SUV. I really like that Electric Escalade that’s coming out in a year, but that may be too big as a daily for the wife. This just checks off all the boxes. The third row is a nice to have for when family comes to town, but we will mostly use it as a 5 seater. I will check out the Hummer and compare.

Now my first Rivian R1S EV SUV I can afford.
I traded in my land Rover Defender for the Rivian R1S. Rivian is a ton more fun. Defender was great. Built like a tank but cost $130 to go around 300+ miles here in CA. For the same about off money, the Rivian can go over 1500 miles. Massive cost savings
Love how it has four wheels and even a rivian badge on the steering wheel I just can’t believe it has electric assist seats.

Just got mine delivered 2 weeks ago, Mine cost me 78,000 , ordered 2 years ago. I am too happy with it, there is no way I am getting anything near as good for under 80k on 2023/2024/2025 etc. It does everything with excellence, customer service is awesome, and yes that 0-60 gets old, but boy merging into the highways never felt so good

Mine was actually 77,300.00 , so yes it was under 80,000.00 , and yes I will be asking for those 7,500 next April@@heatism
It's not eligible for the full rebate now because not all battery materials were sourced in the US.
@@petebarnett9 correct. I believe it was eligible for the full credit before April 17 of this year. Anything after and it’s half that. Like me unfortunately
It's a really nice car and I want it. It would be great if the company releases it in the form of a Rivian SUV in many countries, including Korea, when the company's finances are good.

That one does have the large battery since that's the only option currently. Also, you cannot get a truck with three motors. And Tesla hasn't made portrait screens for years now.

@@user-my4xu4gf1z Hybrids have tiny batteries compared the 212 kWh battery on the Hummer EV. I sold mine, it was cool but it took to long to charge compared to previous EV I owned. Waiting on the Sierra EV AT4 or Silverado EV Trail Boss, or even the Cybertruck.

Either that, the Escalade IQ, an electrified Genesis GV80 (if they ever release one), an electrified Infiniti Monogram (if they ever release one), an electrified Range Rover (if they ever release one), a Lucid SUV (if they ever release one), or of the new Fisker Oceans w/ the solar roof lol.
I think the R1s is great - I just wish the frunk was shaped more like the Ford Lightning's frunk

I need my Rivian serviced-ASAP-oh the nearest service center is Richmond VA-350 miles away- You pay the towing if the vehicle needs towing to the Rivian center also.Warrenty work.

Love my R1S , just need some improvement on the software . The navigation and the phone APP isn’t as good as Tesla’s .
