Now that I've moved to Canada, I realize how truly insane it is that the US doesn't have universal healthcare. Even the conservatives here have to support healthcare, otherwise people won't vote for them.
As long as the Right Wing keeps telling us that universal health care is socialism, the swing voter are going to think "Venezula" and vote against the Democrats. There are a lot of people who see how their conservative parents and grandparents grew up and think that if they work hard, that it will be the same for them. But wages haven't kept up with costs. We're not in the 1960's, where if you earned 8k a year you could buy a house for 25k on a mortgage and still have enough money left to run a car, buy treats for the kids & take a vacation.
My dad was a union pipefitter. He made around $15 plus benefits. That supported a family of four in a decent area, 2000 sqft house, a new car and a used one, and a toy or two (lakehouse, RV, or boat). A new truck cost $4,000. When I came through, a pipefitter's wage was around $25. That did not support a family of four; certainly no at the same level as my dad. A new truck cost around $30,000. Now new trucks start at $40,000.

If I tell you that YOU must live YOUR life by the limits set by MY religious beliefs, is THAT religious freedom? ARE you free living by MY beliefs?
I think he's overlooking a big "moral" aspect of why people vote republican. I was raised to believe that the republican party had the same Christian morals and standards that we did and that voting for them was the right thing to do. I have since changed my approach and thinking but most of my family still feels this way. Some are single issue voters and will vote republican no matter what because they're "pro-life." None of the other issues matter, even if they would help so many other people
Well, let's hear it for D*n*ld Tr*mp, the champion of Christian morality. Hooray.
You hit the nail on the head. Something I can't quite wrap my head around, but that's it. Abortion, gun ownership, gender roles, anti-immigration - a bunch of single issues that are tied to a party whose real objective is to keep the people down.
The Republicans' central tenets appear to be ignorance, racism, sexism, nationalism, and fascism. Trump is a pathological liar and a malignant narcissist with a long history of betraying anyone foolish enough to trust him, and fundamentalist Christians can't flock to his banner fast enough. He's their golden calf.
That's the Christian Right. What Bernie is talking is talking about and what is way more scary, is all these people in the midwest who voted for dems their whole life, but switched to Trump. As the democrat party abandoned their working class ideals for big business, they lost touch with their base.
The Bible is not against abortion.

As long as the Right Wing keeps telling us that universal health care is socialism, the swing voter are going to think "Venezula" and vote against the Democrats. Current levels of inflation under Biden have fueled that false analogy and emboldens the 'trickle down' economics that will cut evil government influence. I don't know why the Democrats can't seem to be able to counter that propaganda in any way that connects with the working class. Ever since "What's the Matter with Kansas?" (1990?) the working class has been voting against it's own best interests.

Even so, as we well know by now, Bernie cannot hold a grudge, which was demonstrated when he endorsed her as part of a dynamite speech at the DMC Convention that July. Plus the #1 focus had to be to defeat Trump. To that end, he went out and held 39 rallies, in many cities, in 13 states for her. NotMeUs...again.
@@virginialawler7725 well said Virgina! In that light, it’s understandable. Take good care. 🙂
Biden Cheated Only reason he Won.
unions are so important to the success of this nation and the wellbeing of the people who are pushing us forward, we need more politicans to speak like Bernie
I'm in favor of unions to equalize power in the work place but some unions abused their power and became just as corrupt as their big business bosses.
As a Brit get free education and health !!! basics UK !!!! NHS free for all regardless of work !!!!!! Max price any drug/month £9.30 if working !!!!
US NOT ME
His accent is monumental
You're monumental
6:16 "It's not that in red states people believe in... throwing millions of people off of health insurance" -- Sadly a huge number of people in red states would prefer to go without health care themselves, or to pay far more for it than necessary, if it means that those they consider inferior or undeserving don't have it.
Egad! Surely not! Your especially harsh comment is way beyond depressing. Do you have any stats to support it? NotMeUs.
@@virginialawler7725 Many folks here in Florida will say that the homeless don't deserve any of my money because they only are homeless because they are too lazy to work so why should I support them to sit home on their asses. It's propaganda that takes deep roots into the soil of those that think they are "middle class".
Please bundle up on the picket lines, Senator. And wear your mittens! We Need You!
The president America needed, not the one many deserved.
We had a Wonderful one for 4 years
@@Soma81 🤣🤣🤣
Senator Sanders God bless you
Keep giving Sanders this mainstream platform. He nailed it with the last criticism of the Dems. They say one thing and do another or flop because they don’t really care about policies, just elections.
We should all be on one side where love, compassion, kindness cooperation, & humanity persists. Greedy people are sick people & their illness will destroy them horrifically eventually.
Greed and selfishness are good, don't you know? Just read Ayn Rand for whom Republican senator Paul was named.
This is her opinion but it doesn't reflect the truth. If a person ate more than he could digest what will happen?
unfortunately, those red state voters keep falling for the gop talking point "how do you pay for all this free stuff" or "isn't all this free stuff going to make people lazy and dependent on government?"
It’s true! Depending on bribing government officials and grabbing taxpayer money HAS made the rich lazy, and to feel entitled!
Bernie da man!
Love Bernie ! He actually WORKS for the people , unlike Manchin and Sinema !
Yeah...they're just working for THEIR people...the people who elected them...how selfish...and UNDEMOCRATIC!
or the rest of the republican and democrat parties.
I like Manchin and sinema even though I'm from Wisconsin i was a Democrat and moved away because people like Bernie Sanders.
Krysten and sinema want people to work for the things they want not have everything given to them.
Sinema and Manchin use actual facts.
Manchin actually thinks about the coal miners.
He has never changed his stance and never stopping fighting for the people❣
As an Aussie watching US politics from afar, Bernie is one of the only US politicians I’ve ever seen who actually has authenticity. On-message, compassionate and progressive for fifty goddamn years. Some of the policies he’s fighting for are things we’ve had in Australia for decades. Thanks for continuing to give him a platform Seth.
I love Bernie Sanders I think he is really an excellent individual and does fight for human rights. And he is correct Democrats are tired of politicians not coming across with their promises.
Bernie should be president
CEO's, COO's, Co's and all the rest of upper management hire lawyers to negotiate their contracts. It's called representation. Unions are representation for their workers.
That is funny.. that may have been how they started out to be. But they mostly serve them selves much the same as the politicians do. Why was it Delta a non union airline the first to pay FAs boarding time? Because the other airlines would payoff the union leaser to not push for it. They all work for themselves. Not the people that they are paid or elected to represent.
Mr. Meyers, thank you kindly for sharing your platform with our beloved Bernie! And thank you for all the good you and your team do with Late Night! You inform and brighten our lives. AND your sign off is the absolute sweetest. I don't know if you realize how much I (and your devoted Jackals, I'm sure) benefit from the endearing way you relate to your audience. Wishing you all the bests 💖
Even though not likely, I wear my Bernie 2024 shirt proud and always will🥺❤️
You're the man Bernie!
Speak Bernie!!!
I LOVE HIM
Seth should ask Bernie to put in a good word to Ben & Jerry’s about “A Closer Lick”.
Of all the late night talk show hosts, Seth has been the most favorable to Bernie.
Unions forever! Stand in solidarity with the workers!!!
I wish he were President right now.
In a Prison Cell for the rest of his Life
More accurate answer: because authoritarians are obsessed with hierarchies, and they need to think that there's always someone beneath them. So it doesn't matter how harmful Republican policies are to non-billionaires, as long as Republican working class voters believe that they hurt minorities MORE, they get to stay above the bottom and will continue to vote so.
Pretty much why working class Southern whites wanted to keep slavery so bad, despite never being able to afford them.
True, and soooo fu*king sad.
Short answer, working people vote Republican because of racism and bigotry.
Long answer, because the oligarchy uses media to push racism and bigotry within the working class to divide them and prevent momentum to maintain the status quo.
If working class whites and POC, and all sexualities could unite under one party we could end the oligarchy conteol and regain democracy.
That is essentially what LBJ said.
That is a flawed theory
