      Makes me want to cry over the bullshit politics here stateside. True people who are imprisoned never even understanding they are imprisoned because of the powerful few. No clue what freedom is. We have persons in our government about to set us down the road NK is stuck in and majority do not get this. They dont understand what a true dictatorship is just what movies and opinions tell them. Maybe it's the fact my Dad was a Korean and Vietnam vet that I know more about Korean war and about SK n NK. My Dad served as ROK Liason before shipping to Nam. So I learned at home about them. But in elementary school history we learned about Korwan War. I did projects on it in middle school 7th grade. Later grades it was part of Social studies and civics the whys and hows of our conflicts with other countries. Then I watch this and hear a young American say he knew nothing until high school. What the hell are they teaching kids? Opinion is not history. Opinions are not basic Civics or Social Studies. I know more about the world than some Harvard students. How the hell does this happen?

      @@rebeccamiller3248 They are teaching them that our country is bad and we are the most oppressed people in the word. That the only solution is to let Government be responsible for solving our problems. Most Children are never out of range adult supervision until they leave the family home. They never learn to deal with conflict without appealing to authority. The ones that go to university get it worst because so much effort is made to not have them fail. First year student expect to get an A for just doing the bare minimum. Some institution teach them to never look at themselves for the cause of failure. Someone should of told them they were wrong. They are being picked on because the professor is handout grades based on racism sexism . . . . It has nothing to do with their own lack of effort to do the assignment they were told to do.

      I though he was a great representation of us Americans. My only wish, and he may have been asked to do this during on of the transitions, was I wish he kept looking at his North Korean counterpart. It felt a bit rude to me, having him purely facing the camera. That’s my only quibble and like I said he may have been coached to do so, I just worry it may be seen as a sign of disrespect to his partner and I’m sure he wouldn’t have meant it that way. I'd argue America will get to that point, going off of the trend of American Freedoms, since the late ends of the cold war (near the USSR's fall), freedom took a big uno reverse card. I'd be surprised if a video as innocent and nice as this, is even monetized. We're chill on the front page (just with a glance of America), until you realize how sad it is in America, liberty prohibited, people silencing people who holds different opinions. Everything can be considered a "Inciting of Violence" if it continues to get worst. But yeah, that's a sad reality North Koreans face, and honestly I feel like the Western World is now getting to near that point.

    • @Iampatrix
      @Iampatrix 4 года назад +20

      @@rachelleyeung I've experienced that myself, from Americans. I'm roughly 25% Chinese/Mongolian (thought we were Chinese for centuries until my mom took one of those ancestry tests...turns out we're mostly Mongolian with a slice of Han), and a mix of other European ethnicities...so I mostly just look "white". But my eyes are slightly different, when i tan I get the skin tone, not much body hair, just subtle signs that I might have some mixed ethnicities in me. I've gotten so many comments over the years with people telling me I look tired, or why do I look angry, or that I'm not paying attention because I don't consciously widen my eyes to look fully "white". When I tell them I'm part Chinese and that's just how my eyes look when I'm not widening them they think I'm making a racist joke and then when I convince them they assume I'm the son of recent immigrants. My Chinese family got here like 200 years ago, way before my white lineage ever got here. Asians have been in this country since damn near it's start and get over looked all the time, my family being one of them. I hate to be the white person claiming outrage over an issue like this...but to me it feels like it's erasing my family roots. It sucks, like we have to have a thick accent and look like a cartoon to be seen sometimes, I understand them thinking I'm just some white guy with resting bitch face but my family deserves the recognition of being here the whole time.
      Sorry for the rant, just something that I haven't seen get any better or any attention throughout the years. Asians in general are never mentioned and they should be.

    • @Iampatrix
      @Iampatrix 4 года назад +4

      @@frogsnack7072 oh I understand I've only experienced a fraction of it, I don't really get that irritated when it comes to me because I do look entirely white at a casual glance. That doesn't really bother me because it's true, it's when I eventually tell people I am Chinese with a whole branch of Chinese relatives and then I have to answer stupid questions. Or they go "Oh I love Chinese food, fried rice is my favorite!".
      It's kinda petty on my part, but it's more annoyance for my family that's been here so long. To still be reduced to stereotypes and treated as something "exotic", or people just casually lumping every Asian group together because they don't care to learn is what annoys me. Like I had a co-worker a couple months ago make some stupid comment about Asians and I told him that was Japanese not Chinese and his response was "Oh well what's it matter, they're all the same anyway". And he knows I have Chinese relatives and still felt comfortable saying that openly because it's not addressed often in society.
      I won't pretend I'm a victim compared to others though, I can just keep my mouth shut and look white. Others ethnicity are always on display and they have to actually deal with it all the time, I don't want to take anything away from their experience.

You're allowed many rights, to peacefully protest is just one. Do you know what would happen in n. Korea, or even saudi arabia, anywhere in the middle east, south america ect if you did that? One guess.

      Give me ONE example of how YOU are oppressed in America. I'm listening....what freedoms do YOU not have? America isn't perfect, but we ARE the most free country on the planet, and everyone has equal rights. Those who's rights are infringed upon by individuals can fight for them in a court of law...and WIN. No other nation on earth has this. Show me ONE law in existence TODAY that gives one group more rights than another. I can name only ONE and it gives minorities, particularly Black Americans first access to jobs and being accepted into colleges even over a more qualified Asian or White person simply because of their skin color. NO other laws like this exist in today's America....so by all means try to find one, maybe when you realize you can't, then you will stop believing that America is oppressive to people.

    I just want to note that the US is isolated from much of the world and we basically have 50 tiny countries (states) doing their own thing all the time. I don’t necessarily think it’s that Americans don’t care about other countries in their affairs, but we need to clean up our own front yard . As you guys can see during the pandemic and elections, we are a whole mess. And American students learn different topics depending on the state they live in. A whole mess.

    I am sorry but if you would have had an "older" American this would all be different. I learned about other countries in high school. Also, as an adult I wanted to know more. Yes, we learned North Korea has a deep hate for America. It wasn't because Trump was in office either! North Korea has always been on Americas radar as a country to watch. They have always threatened us. I understand this guy is young and he was very nice. But, you would have gotten different responses from an older person. I learned more than this young man in high school about North Korea and my parents knew more than I did. I applaud this young mans mannerisms and knowing the Korean language.

      I’m only 21 but I agree with you. I’ve been educated on North Korea all my life and always had an interest in learning about other countries. I think most people in my grade would agree that American history is usually seen as the most boring. Kim Jong-il was the one who I always heard about until his death and I was 12 at that time. So we definitely learned about North Korea before his son Kim Jong-Un
